Step 1 Lead-in
1.Greet the class.
2.Show a picture of a restaurant and ask students what they usually order when they eat out.Encourage them to use English if possible.
Step 2 Work on 2a
1.Look at the picture in 2a and talk about the picture. Predict what the conversation may be about.
2.Play the conversation for 2a and ask students to circle the coloured words they hear.
3.Review the answers together and ensure students understand the meaning of the circled words. The answers are : order, a salad, order, noodles.
4.Explain the following language items by giving some examples.
What would you like to order?
We often have it in America, but it may taste different here.
Would you like a hot tofu dish or a cold one?
How about a chicken and cabbage salad?
Which soup would you like , chicken or fish?
Would you like rice or noodles?
Step 3 Work on 2b
Ask students to read the conversation silently.Guide them to complete the table for 2b.Use a class chart to record answers and discuss any discrepancies.
Step 4 Work on 2c
Play the conversation again for 2c.Have students practise the intonation in pairs.Divide the class into pairs and ask them to role-play the conversation, focusing on the correct intonation.
Step 5 Work on 2d
1.Ask students to discuss with their partners what food and drink they would like to order at a restaurant.Encourage them to take notes.
2.Have a few pairs share their ideas with the class.
Step 6 Work on 2e
1.Assign roles (a customer and a waiter or waitress) and have students prepare a short conversation about ordering food and drink at a restaurant.
2.Allow pairs to perform their conversations in front of the class. Provide constructive feedback and encourage students to improve their language skills.

Read the sentences in 3a.Circle all the nouns for food and drink.
