Every four years, the Games also help audience to get to know more about winter sports from around the world. The Winter Olympics may not have the large crowds and huge stars of its Summer Games, but they share the same Olympic spirit. Skiing One of the most popular sports of the Winter Olympic Games is skiing. Skiers compete in the downhill and slalom (回转赛), and in the short and long cross-country ski races. Skiing was originally (最初) a sport played only in cold northern countries, but now athletes from all over the world compete in this sport, even those from countries without any snow! Skating Skaters compete with each other in speed races or in figure-skating events. The figure-skaters are generally considered to be the stars of the Winter Olympic Games. These ice princes and princesses are so graceful that it’s easy to forget that they are actually highly skilled athletes. Skeleton (俯式冰橇) The skeleton is one of the strangest named sports of the Olympics. The skeleton is named after the shape of the metal sleds (雪橇) used in the 1890s, when the sport first started. The skeleton is a downhill sled race, usually on ice. In the skeleton, a person lies on his or her stomach on the sled, with his or her head pointing downhill! 21. Why does the writer mention the Summer Games? A. To share the Olympic spirit. B. To make a comparison on size. C. To help audience learn more about sports. D. To introduce the Olympic Games completely. 22. Which of the following best describes the figure-skaters? A. Senior and honorable. B. Confident and attractive. C. Amazing and responsible. D. Graceful and highly skilled. 23. What do the three sports have in common according to the passage? A. They all include downhill races. B. All the three are newly-developed. C. They are all typical games of Winter Olympics. D All the athletes come from icy northern countries. B On October 27,2020, my friend and I boarded the first flight of our journey from Vancouver Island, to Peru, South America. Twenty-four hours and four airports later we landed in Cusco, Peru, a city of one million people. Coming from Vancouver Island with only 100 feet above sea level, we knew that we were now at a much higher altitude (海拔) — over 11,000 feet — and needed time to get used to the scarcer oxygen (缺氧) levels! We followed the advice of other travellers and the locals: drink lots of coca leaf tea and rest for a couple of hours before any activity. We were soon hiking through the ruins (遗迹) and surrounding ancient castles of Cusco. Leaving Cusco the next day, we stopped at the Moray Ruins, which were used for farming by the Incas. Their size and unique design should be considered a lesson in historical engineering skills. This Inca site is one of the least known tourist destinations, but it’s one of the most interesting places to visit. Arriving in the beautiful Sacred Valley we stayed at Willka T’ika for the next week. This place is wonderful. We enjoyed delicious vegetarian meals, all made with local produce by loving Quechua people. You can’t go to Peru without visiting historic Machu Picchu. The “road”up to the ruins is made up of an endless series of switchbacks (急转弯), resulting in cold sweats. It was worth the ride, though. It was too soon before we were leaving Peru. We learned the unique history of Inca, Quechua culture, and the farming methods still widely practiced. The best thing we took away returning home to Vancouver Island was how simple and caring the people are and how deeply they love the earth and everyone they meet. 24. Why did the author drink lots of coca leaf tea? A. To have a good rest. B. To follow the local custom. C. To feel better at a greater height. D. To avoid getting thirsty on the way. 25. What does the author think of the Moray Ruins? A. They’re known to most travel lovers. B. They’re not as interesting as expected. C. They’re no longer suitable for farming. D. They’re an example of creative engineering. 26. Which can best describe the author’s trip to Machu Picchu? A. Safe but tiring. B. Risky but worthwhile. C. Pleasant and interesting. D. Comfortable and wonderful. 27. How does the author’s trip to Peru influence him? A. It encourages him to be more caring. B. It helps him understand his own culture. C. It teaches him to accept all the differences. D. It allows him to experience modern farming. C Lapland's reindeer (驯鹿) grow well in winters of -30℃ and even colder. So when rain falls instead of snow during the coldest months in the Arctic,it makes food hard to get for them. Now one of the best-loved symbols of Christmas is probably dying out. Numbers have fallen by over half in the last two decades as the place warms at four times the global average rate. The animals are used to pull sleigh (雪橇) rides for tourists. The rides are part of Lapland winter wonderland experiences in thousands of British tourists each year. But this year the working herd had to be moved 60 miles further north due to the absence of snow. As a result, they can't be provided in some areas, making it hard for people to earn a living. Lapland is often described as Europe's last great wilderness, home to lynxes, brown bears, wolverines and golden eagles. Tourism is a big part of the economy, and the town of Rovaniemi is also the "official home of Santa Claus". But changing climate (气候) is threatening its tourism industry. A report by The Finnish Climate Change Panel warns of flooding and increased rainfall, with Rovaniemi most at risk. Firms that rely on snow "will have great effects on visit levels" and these industries may be forced further north. Erkkila of the Arctic Husky Park in Rovaniemi says: "Tourists see pictures of the Santa Claus village covered in snow and when they get here they think, 'Is this the winter wonderland?'." The Husky Park bought a wheeled cart (车) six years ago as a replacement for sleigh rides when the snow fails. In the past it was thought the Arctic was warming twice as fast as the rest of the world. But a report published last week by scientists showed the rate is actually four times the global average. 28. What causes the drop in Lapland's reindeer population? A. Cold winter. B. Polluted habitats. C. Heavy snow. D. Rising temperatures. 29. What does the underlined word "they" in paragraph 2 refer to? A. Rides. B. Animals. C. Experiences. D. Tourists. 30. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. Lapland is home to various wildlife. B. Increased rainfall threatens Rovaniemi. C. Rovaniemi is official home of Santa Claus. D. Changing climate affects Lapland's tourism. 31. What does Erkkila say about tourists to Rovaniemi? A. They feel excited. B. They are disappointed. C. They enjoy themselves. D. They prefer wheeled carts. Every minute, every hour, every day, we are losing valuable time to our phones. B 22. D 23. 根据第一段的“Every four years, the Games also help audience to get to know more about winter sports from around the world. The Winter Olympics may not have the large crowds and huge stars of its Summer Games, but they share the same Olympic spirit.(每隔四年,奥运会还帮助观众了解更多来自世界各地的冬季运动。冬奥会可能没有夏季奥运会那么多的观众和明星,但他们有着相同的奥林匹克精神。)”可知,夏季奥运会参与人员众多,而相比之下,冬季奥运会的参与人员则少得多,所以作者提到夏季奥运会是为了对比两者的规模。故选B项。 【22题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段的“These ice princes and princesses are so graceful that it’s easy to forget that they are actually highly skilled athletes.(这些冰雪王子和公主如此优雅,以至于人们很容易忘记他们实际上是技术高超的运动员。)” 根据第二段的“One of the most popular sports of the Winter Olympic Games is skiing.(冬季奥运会最受欢迎的运动之一是滑雪。)”以及第三段的“The figure-skaters are generally considered to be the stars of the Winter Olympic Games.(花样滑冰运动员通常被认为是冬季奥运会的明星。)”以及第四段的“The skeleton is one of the strangest named sports of the Olympics.(俯式冰橇是奥运会命名最奇怪的项目之一。)” B On October 27,2020, my friend and I boarded the first flight of our journey from Vancouver Island, to Peru, South America. Arriving in the beautiful Sacred Valley, we stayed at Willka T’ika for the next week. C 25. D 26. B 27. 根据第二段“Coming from Vancouver Island with only 100 feet above sea level, we knew that we were now at a much higher altitude (海拔) — over 11,000 feet — and needed time to get used to the scarcer oxygen (缺氧) levels! We followed the advice of other travellers and the locals: drink lots of coca leaf tea and rest for a couple of hours before any activity. (来自海拔仅100英尺的温哥华岛,我们知道我们现在处于更高的海拔——超过11,000英尺——并且需要时间来适应更稀缺的氧气水平!我们遵循了其他旅行者和当地人的建议:喝大量的古柯叶茶,并在任何活动前休息几个小时。)”可知,喝大量的古柯叶茶可以缓解高原反应。故选C项。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段第二句“Leaving Cusco the next day, we stopped at the Moray Ruins, which were used for farming by the Incas. Their size and unique design should be considered a lesson in historical engineering skills. (第二天离开库斯科,我们在印加人用于耕种的海鳗遗址停留。它们的大小和独特的设计应该被视为历史工程技能的一课。)”可知,海鳗遗址原来用于耕种,其设计很有意义,可称之为历史工程技能的一课,与D项“They’re an example of creative engineering. (它们是创造性工程的一个例子。)”意思相符,故选D项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段“You can’t go to Peru without visiting historic Machu Picchu. The ‘road’ up to the ruins is made up of an endless series of switchbacks (急转弯), resulting in cold sweats. It was worth the ride, though. (去秘鲁一定要参观历史名胜Machu Picchu。通往废墟的‘路’是由无尽的急转弯组成的,会导致出一身冷汗。不过,这趟旅程是值得的。)”可知,作者眼中的Machu Picchu之行会让你吓出一身冷汗,但是也很值得。故选B项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段第三句“The best thing we took away returning home to Vancouver Island was how simple and caring the people are and how deeply they love the earth and everyone they meet. (回到温哥华岛,我们带走的最好的东西是人们是多么简单和关怀,以及他们多么热爱地球和他们遇到的每个人。)”可知,这次秘鲁的旅行使作者感受到了那里的人们的简单和关怀,并鼓励他也变得更有爱心。故选A项。 C Lapland's reindeer (驯鹿) grow well in winters of -30℃ and even colder. D 29. A 30. D 31. 根据第一段“Numbers have fallen by over half in the last two decades as the place warms at four times the global average rate.(因为这个地方以全球平均水平的4倍的速度在变暖和,所以在过去的20年里,数量已经下降了一半多。)” 根据第二段“The animals are used to pull sleigh(雪橇)rides for tourists. The rides are part of Lapland winter wonderland experiences in thousands of British tourists each year. But this year the working herd had to be moved 60 miles further north due to the absence of snow. As a result, they can't be provided in some areas, making it hard for people to earn a living.(这些动物们被用来为游客拉雪橇。每年,拉雪橇都是拉普兰冬季仙境数千名欧洲游客吗经历的一部分。但是,今年这些工作畜群不得不因为雪的缺失而向北搬迁60英里。因此,在一些区域,它们就不能被提供,进而导致人们很难挣到钱了。)” 可知,因为驯鹿走了,所以拉雪橇的活动没有了,所以人们才挣不到钱了,所以they是指拉雪橇的体验。故选A。 根据第三段“But changing climate(气候)is threatening its tourism industry.(但是变化的气候正在威胁它的旅游业。)” 根据第四段“Tourists see pictures of the Santa Claus village covered in snow and when they get here they think, 'Is this the winter wonderland?'.(游客们看到圣诞老人村覆盖在雪里的照片,然后,当他们到这的时候,他们会想“这就是冬季仙境?”)” Every minute, every hour, every day, we are losing valuable time to our phones.
