Step 2 Work on 1a 1.Ask students to think about the rules in their homes and write them down. 2.Share and discuss some of the rules in class. Step 3 Work on 1b-1c 1.Read Alice’s letter to Dr Know and Dr Know’s reply and answer the questions in 1b. 2.Read again and complete Alice’s notes about her problem in 1c. 3.Check the answers and ask students to summarize Alice’s main problems. 4.Let students read Dr Know’s reply and discuss why Dr Know thinks rules can help Alice. Step 4 Work on 2a 1.Ask students to complete the letter to Dr Know using can,have to/must,or can’t/mustn’t. 2.Check the answers and explain the difficult points.
