①Short videos have become increasingly popular in recent years. These videos are usually short, lasting from a few seconds to a few minutes, and offer a quick supply of fun or information. While these videos may seem harmless, there are worries about bad influences they can have on the humans’ brains and behaviors.
②Watching too many short videos makes our brains become weaker. Scientific study has showed that when we experience something pleasurable, such as eating delicious meal or getting praise, our brains produce something called “dopamine”, which is connected with the reward (奖励) center of the brain. Dopamine makes people do the same behavior again and again in order to get more reward. Short videos work the same way by providing an immediate satisfaction. Each time we watch a video and experience the pleasure, our brains produce dopamine. Over time, our brains become weaker in producing dopamine.
③What’s more, too much use of social media can shorten people’s attention span, and short videos may be even more harmful. The never-ending excitement provided by these videos can make it difficult for people to focus on tasks that require lasting attention and even make them lose interest in their jobs or learning activities that don’t offer immediate rewards.
④Additionally, these videos can have a bad influence on mental health. Watching an endless stream of short videos can lead to feelings of ▲ because you might think you’re not as good as the people in the videos.
⑤Not all short videos are harmful. However, it is important to be careful of how long you watch these videos and focus on activities that require full attention and provide long-term rewards.
4. Which of the following can explain “dopamine” correctly?
A. Dopamine makes people get praise and reward easily.
B. Dopamine helps people focus on their tasks longer.
C. Dopamine influences feelings instead of behaviors.
D. Dopamine is produced as a result of pleasant experiences.
5. Which of the following word can be the best for ▲ ?
A. Pride. B. Worry. C. Safety. D. Regret.
6. Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?
A. B. C. D.
7 Why does the writer write this text?
A. To introduce how dopamine works in our brains.
B. To encourage people to improve their attention span.
C. To remind people to limit their time of watching short videos.
D. To explain why short videos have become increasingly popular.

In one tea garden of Mei Jiawu, hundreds of workers are busy picking fresh tea buds from tea trees. Among them, a special robotic worker also can be seen working attentively. With a mechanic arm, the robot pulls tea branches to one side, pick out the buds at the top of the branches and then suck them carefully into a box.

Abuela’s birthday was coming up, and Mirta knew exactly where to look for a great present: the flea market. Mirta had seen Abuela’s collection of china plates which were shown so loving on the wood shelf in her dining room. Unluckily, the morning’s search for an affordable plate had been disappointing, and Mirta was quickly losing her patience. She was about to give up when she saw a reasonably priced plate that was simply perfect: a deep beautiful blue with gold lines. She picked up the plate excitedly and headed toward the shopkeeper to pay for it when the plate dropped out of her hands, hit the ground and broke into pieces.
“You don’t have to say it,” Mirta said to the shopkeeper with a sad smile. “I broke it, I bought it.” Mirta paid the full price and picked up the pieces, which she noticed were still quite pretty, even though they were now not useful for show at all.
The shopkeeper smiled at her with much pity. “I know how you feel. I was rather clumsy this morning. I broke two plates while putting these out.” He pointed to a box of pieces of plates. An idea suddenly came into Mirta’s head as she watched the pieces in the box. One dish had been white with colorful flowers and the other was bright yellow with a red, geometric border.
“Can I buy these, too?” she asked.
“You can have them for free.” the dealer answered surprisingly.
Mirta gave the pieces to Abuela in a special bag with a note. “Dear Abuela, you have always taught me to learn to enjoy the beauty in everything.
A. B. C. D.
7. Why does the writer write this text?
A. To introduce how dopamine works in our brains.
B. To encourage people to improve their attention span.
C. To remind people to limit their time of watching short videos.
D. To explain why short videos have become increasingly popular.
C
Just at the end of March, before the Chinese traditional festival — Qingming, Hangzhou has welcomed its best time to pick tea leaves again.
For many years, the hard job of tea picking has been done by hand. However, because of the lack of labor and high labor costs, tea-picking has become a problem that needs to be solved right away.
Wu Chuanyu, a professor from Zhejiang Sci-tech University, organized a team and started his research and development of robots for tea picking. After six years’ hard work, the tea-picking robot finally made a debut in 2018. It was a hit and drew lots of attention. After another six years’ research and improvement, the team has made the sixth generation of the tea-picking robot this year.
The robot has to learn to recognize a bud from a tea plant by using data from a data base before it starts its work in the tea garden. The data base about tea buds is built after the researchers collect large amounts of data by analyzing (分析) the photos of tea plants taken in a tea garden.
“In fact, teaching the robot to pick out tea buds is the most difficult part of our research and develop work. Because unlike fruits like apples or oranges which have much bigger sizes and brighter colors, it’s really difficult to make a difference between tea buds and old leaves. We still need to do more to make improvement on this.” Professor Wu says.
Though there is still a long way to go, the good thing is that they’ve got a good start.

C. The working environment of the tea-picking robot.

This may look like junk, but we can turn it into a beautiful mosaic (马赛克) chair for your garden.” She thought Abuela might like the gift even more than a perfect plate.
