Yours sincerely, Li Hua 读后续写 Taking out a piece of paper and a pencil, Cinderella started to draw a shoe that was totally clear. Her vision was sharp and her fingers moved with determination as she sketched, adding curves and elegant details to the design. “If my classmates want to see glass slippers, I’ll give them glass slippers.” she muttered. After finishing the sketch, she spent hours researching materials online and decided on a durable, clear plastic that could resemble glass. Confident and inspired, she realized these shoes could be both fashionable and durable, a creation no one had ever seen before. With excitement, Cinderella decided to turn her idea into a real product. The next week, Cinderella started her small business: Cinderella’s Glass Slippers online. She created a simple website, posted photos of her first pair, and spread the word among her classmates and their families. Orders quickly poured in from people curious to see if her creations lived up to their name. Her classmates, who once teased her, now admired her work. As each new pair was delivered, Cinderella felt her confidence grow. The once painful nickname became a badge of pride. With each sale, she realized she didn’t need a fairy godmother to create magic — she was capable of it all on her own. 听力原文: (Text1) M: Sorry, ma’am, but the computer is not accepting your card. W: How can that be? I paid last month’s bill. Can you try again? M: OK, here goes. Oh, it’s fine. W: That’s a relief. Your computer must be faulty. (Text 2) M: I’ve been invited to have dinner with Paulo and Maria this evening but I don’t know what to wear. I’d also like to take a small present. Do you have any ideas? W: Just be informal, and I’m sure they’d appreciate some flowers and maybe something from Scotland. (Text 3) W: How about spending the weekend with us? M: Let me see if my wife has anything planned and I’ll get back to you. W: Well, make it quick. What we wanna do involves making reservations. (Text 4) M: What do you think of the new building downtown? W: It is visually unappealing! I can’t stand it! M: That pretty well sums up my view about it too. (Text 5) W: The president likes the new location for the store. M: I wish he knew how hard we worked to find it. (Text 6) M: I suggest going for something comfortable, like a small cottage. W: Why don’t we treat ourselves and stay at a five-star hotel? Or even better, let’s rent a house with a pool. M: What’s the point? We’ll be at the beach all day anyway. W: Oh, come on! Don’t you want a bit of luxury for once? M: But we definitely don’t need an entire house! (Text 7) W: I can’t keep up with all these changes! So, the presentation is on the 15th after all? M: Well, Mr. Sadik said he’d be away on leave that day, so it was scheduled for the 16th. Then, for some reason, it was changed to the 22nd. W: Yeah, that’s the date I’ve marked in my diary. M: Then Mr. Sadik said he’d canceled his leave, so it was switched back to the original date. (Text 8) W: Ethan, I have been waiting for you for over an hour! We missed our movie. I called more than six times, but you didn’t even answer your cellphone. M: Terribly sorry, I left my driveway early enough, but I ran into a group of street performers blocking the road. To make matters worse, I had left my phone on the charger. W: It must have been annoying. But you can borrow someone’s phone to call me! M: Again, I’m so sorry. I will treat you to dinner at the new Spanish restaurant. W: Thank you, but I need to finish my sales report tonight at home for the meeting this Friday. (Text 9) M: Hello! I’m looking for a wedding photographer. My friend John referred you to me. He said you were excellent. He also showed me your website, and I have to say I was really impressed with your work. W: Oh thanks, that’s nice to hear. Could you first tell me the date and location, so I can check my calendar and see if I’m available? M: Sure! It’s July 2nd, and it will be at my parents’ house in Halifax. W: Hmm ... it looks like I am unavailable on that day. I’m flying away to shoot another wedding. Now, when you checked my website, you must have seen my colleague, Jack Shin’s work. Would you be interested in having him shoot your wedding? M: Oh, that’s such a pity. Yes, I’ve seen his work, and I liked it as well. His work bears a lot of similarities to yours. W: I’m looking at his schedule and he happens to be available that day. M: That is really lucky! Would prices be comparable? W: We charge the same rates. M: Do I choose which photos I want printed? Is printing included? W: Of course. You’ll receive a link to an online photo gallery of the best 200 photos within 3 weeks. You can pick out the 50 you like. M: That sounds great. (Text 10) W: I’m really glad to see so many people signed up for this workshop. With graduation coming up soon, I know that many of you are preparing to enter the workforce for the first time. Job interviews can be an enormously stressful experience, but like most things, interviewing is a skill, not a talent, and a little practice goes a long way. I know many of you feel nervous just at the thought of being interviewed, but you need to remember that you’ve been invited for an interview because your potential employers think you’d be suitable for the job. So, have a little confidence in yourself. The best thing you can do is be prepared and professional, which will help you make a strong first impression. Before an interview, you should always review your résumé and application, which is why I asked you all to bring an outline of your achievements, academic or otherwise, up to now. You’ll be needing that later. Once your résumé is solid, then you can start preparing for possible interview questions. I’m going to hand out a list of those questions now. You need to think about how you’d answer each of them. Don’t bother making notes — you can’t bring notes to an interview. OK, that’s all, does anyone have any questions for me? 1. B As a college professor, I am required to hold an office hour before my lecture. These office hours are optional and tend to be busier at the beginning and end of a semester (学期). In the middle, they can become quiet. A few years ago I was given a flute (长笛) as a gift, so I decided that I would use my quiet office hours to practice this new instrument. The experience brought unexpected insights into performance anxiety. I held my office hour in the near-empty lecture hall, one hour before the class began. The hall was open to any student who wished to talk with me about coursework or to take a seat and quietly read before the lecture began. I would assemble (组装) my flute, open my lesson book, and begin working on the instrument I had never played before. I also followed online video lessons—all done in front of a few students who would come early to class. I would begin playing long tones, closing my eyes and “forgetting” that anyone was in the room with me. I was surprised to find that I felt no anxiety while learning a new instrument in front of others. Had I been playing my main instrument, I would have had more concern about the level of my playing and how my playing was being received. However, in this setting, it was clear that I was an absolute beginner with no expectations of impressing anyone with my mastery. My attention was set on figuring the instrument out. I had no expectations of how I would sound and had little expectations of sounding like anything more than a beginner. There have been many things I have learned from my experiment of learning an instrument in public. Whenever musicians talk with me about their stage fright, I offer them this story. 24. What is “an office hour” for? A. The professors to show talents. B. The teachers to offer consultation. C. The students to appreciate music. D. The lecturers to make preparations. 25. Why did the author play a flute? A. To give a lecture. B. To pass the time. C. To do a research. D. To attract students. 26. What made the author at ease when playing the flute? A. His concentration on playing. B. His impressive performance. C. The audience’s active response. D. The technique from the video. 27. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. My Joy of Learning a New Thing B. My Tip on Performing in Public C. My Discovery to Ease Stage Fright D. My Office Hour Before Every Lesson C The book has a unique status as a symbol of human culture and civilization. It is a vehicle for sharing stories, spreading knowledge, examining the nature of our extraordinary species and imagining what lies beyond our familiar world. As Carlyle suggests, books ultimately provide an invaluable and comprehensive record of what it means to be human. This volume (选集) takes a list of fifty of the most influential books of all time, putting each into is historical context. From ancient game-changers like The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Liad, through sacred texts and works of philosophical reflection by the likes of Confucius and Plato, via scientific essays, historic “firsts” and cultural works of enduring impact, these are volumes that are at once both products of their societies and vital texts in influencing those same civilizations. What this selection isn’t is a celebration of the literary canon (精品), a reaffirmation of the “best” books from the past. You will find no Austen or Dickens here, nor Dostoyevsky or Garcia Marquez. There is Shakespeare and Cervantes and Tolstoy, but not because they are somehow “better” than those others. Rather, this collection aims to select books that reflect the passage of human history. Most not only reflect, though, but themselves changed how we think and live. By definition, they are “important” works and, in broad critical terms, “great” works too. But this book is not concerned with which works are the greatest of all - there are plenty of other volumes that try to figure that out, and good luck to them. Unavoidably, making a selection such as this is highly subjective. In selecting fifty titles, we can only hope to dip our toe into the vast pool of literature from ages gone by. In doing so, it is foolish to make any claim for definiteness (确定性). Instead, we are playing a literary game. Which of the fifty choices are undeniable? Which are taking a place better deserved by some other works? Everyone will have their own ideas. In the end, it matters little that we all agree. More important is that by turning our minds to the question in the first place, we might meet some unfamiliar works, revisit some old favorites and gain some insight and pleasure in the process. 28. What is the first paragraph mainly about? A. Books as a record of human civilization. B. Criteria for selecting important books. C. The role of influential books in history. D. The types of books included in the list. 29. What accounts for the 50 books being selected for the volume? A. Their high literary quality and awards. B. Their reflection of human history and impact. C. Their popularity and widespread influence. D. Their inclusion in traditional literary collections. 30. What can be inferred from paragraph 4? A. The appreciation of literature is a game for us. B. The selecting process is subjective and flexible. C. Literature is too complicated for us to explore. D. Literary works selection is based on definite claims. 31. What is the ultimate goal of presenting the list of 50 books? A. To seek agreement on literature. B. To determine the most influential books. C. To encourage literary exploration. D. To observe a specific literary tradition. D Not too many decades ago it seemed “obvious” both to the general public and to sociologists that modern society has changed people’s natural relations, loosened their responsibilities to kins(亲属,亲戚) and neighbors, and substituted in their place superficial relationships with passing acquaintances. However, in recent years a growing body of research has revealed that the “obvious” is not true. It seems that if you are a city resident, you typically know a smaller proportion of your neighbors than you do if you are a resident of a smaller community. But, for the most part, this fact has few significant consequences. It does not necessarily follow that if you know few of your neighbors you will know no one else. Even in very large cities, people maintain close social ties within small, private social worlds. Indeed, the number and quality of meaningful relationships do not differ between more and less urban people. Small-town residents are more involved with kin than are big-city residents. Yet city dwellers compensate by developing friendships with people who share similar interests and activities. Urbanism may produce a different style of life, but the quality of life does not differ between town and city. Nor are residents of large communities any likelier to display psychological symptoms of stress or alienation, a feeling of not belonging, than are residents of smaller communities. However, city dwellers do worry more about crime, and this leads them to a distrust of strangers. These findings do not imply that urbanism makes little or no difference. If neighbors are strangers to one another, they are less likely to sweep the sidewalk of an elderly couple living next door or keep an eye out for young troublemakers. Moreover, as Wirth suggested, there may be a link between a community’s population size and its social heterogeneity (多样性). For instance, sociologists have found much evidence that the size of a community is associated with bad behavior including gambling, drugs, etc. Large-city urbanites are also more likely than their small-town counterparts to have a cosmopolitan (见多识广的) outlook, to display less responsibility to traditional kinship roles, to vote for leftist political candidates, and to be tolerant of nontraditional religious groups, unpopular political groups, and so-called undesirables. Everything considered, heterogeneity and unusual behavior seem to be outcomes of large population size. 32. According to paragraph 1, it was once a common belief that people in modern society ________. A. tended to acquaint themselves with people passing by B. could not develop very close relationships with others C. bore great responsibilities to neighbors and relatives D. usually had more friends than small-town residents 33. One of the consequences of urbanism is that the city residents ________. A. show little concern for strangers B. lower the quality of relationships C. suffer from the lack of friendship D. become suspicious of each other 34. We can learn from the passage that the bigger a community is ________. A. the more likely it is to display stress B. the more similar its interests are C. the more open-minded people are D. the better its quality of life is 35. What is the passage mainly about? A. The strong feeling of alienation that city inhabitants are suffering B. The positive role that urbanism has been playing in our modern society C. Advantages and disadvantages of living in big cities or small towns D. Minor differences in the interpersonal relations between cities and towns 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Ever notice that you feel happier when you’re baking? ____36____ The scent of vanilla (香草) in cookies may help you relax and may contribute to your improved behavior. Well, of course there had to be a reason. One doesn’t just choose such a name as one might choose Anne or Linda. No, Cinderella implies a host of meanings. As she grew up, Cinderella Jones began to wonder about her name. “Mom,” she said one day, “why did you name me Cinderella? The kids in school make fun of me. They ask me if I’ve cleaned any fireplaces recently and where my glass slippers (水晶鞋) are. They even ask where my Prince Charming is and when I will go to the ball with him.” “Your father and I thought that if we named you Cinderella, you would have a charmed life.” her mom answered. Cinderella was lost in thought. The original Cinderella didn’t exactly have a charmed life. She was cleaning the fireplace and dealt with cinders, so that’s how she got her name. And she had two evil stepsisters. So for a long time she was pretty miserable. “No, I’m only fifteen, I don’t want to live a miserable life. I’ll take this silly name and turn it into something productive.” she said to herself. So she created a very small business for herself in the summer: Cinderella’s Fireplace Cleaning. Before long, every house on her street had a very clean fireplace. Cinderella knew that by the following summer she would again be called on to clean fireplaces, if the citizens on her street in Ashleyville, Ohio did with their fireplaces what they were supposed to do in wintertime: use them. However, one can earn only a small amount of money by cleaning neighborhood fireplaces once a year. The constant ridicule (嘲笑) of her classmates remained, “Where are your glass slippers? Did they break? Are your feet too big for them?” Such annoying classmates, she thought. What to do? Then she had another great idea. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Para1: Taking out a piece of paper and a pencil, Cinderella started to draw a shoe that was totally clear.
