The passage is most probably written to ______. A. students who will go abroad B. students who are at least 18 years old C students who will graduate from college D. students who will finish their senior year of high school B Some days ago in a PE class, I found the Paralympic Games of London very inspiring. Although the athletes were disabled, they tried their best to achieve the goals. I find it important to let people realize the spirits of the Paralympic Games and I think that writing a post about it can help people learn a lot about it. I am going to use the example of Jessica Tatiana Long, a woman I admire very much, to introduce the spirits of the Paralympic Games. Jessica was born in Russia in February, 1992, and then at the age of 13 months she was adopted (收养) by American people. Unfortunately, because of a serious disease, her two legs were partly cut off at only 18 months and she had to learn how to walk with walking sticks. In an interview, she said that in her childhood, she wasn’t confident and felt really bad about her physical disability. But after some years she realized she had great abilities in sports. At the beginning, she was part of a gymnastic club, but the sport was extremely painful for her. At 10 years old, she began swimming and with the support of her family, at the age of 12, she joined the Paralympics in 2004. She finally won three medals in swimming and became the youngest athlete to win at Paralympics. This marked the beginning of her amazing career in the sport. I believe after reading her stories, you will feel inspired. She won 29 medals, including 16 gold medals, and even wrote her autobiography (自传): Unsinkable. Back to the Paralympics, the first Paralympics took place in Stoke Mandeville, a small village in England on July 29th, 1948. Since then, the Paralympics has improved and developed. In my opinion, without such events, it’s hard to know so many amazing disabled athletes. Moreover, it helps many disabled people feel better about themselves and shows that physical disabilities don’t have to hold them back from achieving greatness. 30. What do we know about Jessica? A. She was born in America. B. She had an operation on her legs. C She was raised by Russian people. D. She was healthy at the age of 19 months. 31. How did Jessica feel upon her disability in her childhood? A. Down. B. Angry. C. Moved. D. Surprised. 32. From the passage, we know that ______. A. Jessica wrote a book about her own special story B. Jessica began swimming before joining in a gymnastic club C. Jessica’s friends noticed that she had great abilities in sports D. Jessica became the second youngest athlete to win at the Paralympics 33. The writer is most likely to agree that ______. A. all disabled people can join the Paralympics B. the Paralympics has kept the same since it started C. you cannot have big achievements if you’ re adopted D. the Paralympics gives us a chance to discover many great disabled athletes 34. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A. Once Bitten, Twice Shy B. The History of the Paralympics C. Actions Speak Louder than Words D. Disabled Athletes in the World of Sport C Decisions take time. Choosing a new apartment and deciding whether to change jobs are serious problems with many sides that need to be carefully balanced. However, we also make many small decisions every day. Some we make again and again, as what to have for dinner or which clothes to wear. Others happen less often, but there is always one waiting for you to decide like whether to replace your old computer or which hotel to book for your holidays. Small decisions also take time. Funnily, however, the small decisions that might eat a larger part of your time might be the ones that matter less. This is because of a basic psychological (心理学的) law: when you choose between two things, your brain needs more time if they are more alike. Imagine you have to choose between two hotels for your beach holidays. The first costs $200 less per night than the second, but other than that, the two are very similar in quality. Unless you get extra information, you will probably book the cheaper hotel very quickly. Now, suppose the first hotel costs just $10 less per night, and it is 100 meters further away from the beach than the second. It could possibly take you ages to jump between the two choices before finally deciding. You can see that when the differences are small, your brain actually has a harder time making a decision. This interesting fact was discovered in 2012, when researchers found that when it comes to making choices, the less people care about the result, the longer they take to decide. This is how the human brain works. If you are choosing between two things which are almost exactly as valuable to you, what you choose does not matter much, because the difference between them is small. In the words of researchers, the “opportunity cost” is low. And yet, research has shown that people actually spend more time on decisions that matter less. So what can you learn from this? Well, at least for small decisions, if you find yourself having a hard time, it might be because it does not matter. So just do something and stop worrying. Again, this is not true for hard decisions like picking your kid’s school. But if you are deciding whether to paint your kitchen white or yellow, and you find yourself having a headache over it, you are probably wasting your time. The key is to recognize when the difficulty comes from yourself, and when it comes from not having enough information. If you already know everything about two computers and find yourself going back and forth between them, it means you don’t care that much. Throw a coin, buy one, and use your time for something more important. 35. What can we infer (推断) about the human brain? A. It can’t decide what’s important for us. B. It takes little time to make hard decisions. C. It often chooses wrong when the result matters. D. It has difficulty choosing between two similar things. 36. Paragraph 3 mainly gives us ______. A. a description of how our brains deal with information B. a viewpoint on what people value when making decisions C. a prediction about when people might make better choices D. an example of how our brains choose between similar things 37. What does the underlined phrase in Paragraph 4 most probably mean? A. Chance of making a decision. B. Price of making a choice. C. Value of making a difference. D. Importance of making a wish. 38. What can we learn from the passage? A. We should care less about hard decisions. B. Decision-making is difficult for most people. C. People often waste time making unimportant choices. D. Research is not needed when making small decisions. 39. According to the passage, what attitude should we have when facing small decisions? A. Worried and scared. B. Relaxed and decisive. C. Calm and serious. D. Cheerful and curious. 第二节 阅读下面短文和问题,根据短文内容和每小题后的具体要求,在答题卡相应题号后的横线上写下相关信息,完成对该问题的回答。答语要意思清楚,结构正确,书写工整。 We all know how it feels to go a night without sleep. But a day with little sleep doesn’t always have to be a bad day. We just need to give ourselves a little extra care. So here are some tips to care for yourself after a night with little rest. Firstly, give yourself a break. In our culture, we often feel that we have to push ourselves to do our best even when facing sleeplessness. But it’s okay to take a break. Breaking down tasks or putting off important decisions might be good choices on a sleepy day. Many people choose to drink coffee when they are short of sleep. But time is the key here. If people do drink coffee, they should do it as early as possible. What’s worse than one sleepless night is two sleepless nights. Too much coffee too late in the day can make it harder to fall asleep. It’s also a good idea to let people know you haven’t slept well. Not having enough rest can make us easier to get angry. It can also affect our memory and concentration, making us more likely to make mistakes. Most people expect to be given the message when others haven’t slept well. This way, they will be ready to offer more space and patience. Finally try exercising. Exercise might be the last thing you want to do on a day when you feel sleepy, yet even a short walk up and down the stairs may help you wake up a bit and lift your spirits. But you have to know your limits, or it might cause serious problems. The best way to exercise on a sleepy day is to do it slowly, gently, and in small amounts. All in all, being short of sleep can be a challenging experience. Still, with care, it is possible to have a good day. 40 What might be good choices on a sleepy day according to Paragraph 2?(不多于8个单词) _____________________________________________________________ 41.
