Developed by US company OpenAI, ChatGPT, a powerful tool that can write stories and emails, translate languages, and answer all kinds of questions, has swept the education world in the past months. According to a US survey of more than 1,000 students, over 89% of them have used ChatGPT to help with homework. And this has caused argument in education.
Some schools in the US and France have banned the use of ChatGPT. For example, New York City public schools didn’t allow students to use ChatGPT on their electronic devices (设备). The move comes out of two worries. Firstly, ChatGPT could make it easier for students to cheat on homework. Secondly, it may spread incorrect information.
Some experts say that it doesn’t develop critical thinking (批判性思维) and problem-solving skills which are necessary for lifelong success. Besides bars, teachers are making changes to their classes to block me use of ChatGPT. Some teachers in the US try to include more speaking exams and handwritten papers instead of typed ones.
But not all educators say “no” to ChatGPT. Some Canadian universities are making rules on its use. They have no plans to completely ban the tool.
Bhaskar Vira, pro-vice-chancellor (副校长) at the University of Cambridge, said that bans on AI software like ChatGPT are not wise. “We have to know that AI is a tool people will use,” he said, “What we need to do is to change our learning, teaching and examinations. That way we can have honesty while knowing the use of the tool.”

If only one person can be called the greatest English writer of all time, that person should be William Shakespeare. His plays have been translated into many languages. There are over 400 films and TV plays from his works. All of them are popular around the world.
William Shakespeare was born in a small town in England in 1564. In his youth, he moved to London and began to work as a play writer.
Why can Shakespeare’s plays catch people’s hearts? That’s because the characters and stories tell truths about human nature in his plays.
His comedies put the joke on human weaknesses and always have a happy ending. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, goddesses secretly play magical tricks on people lost in the forest. Then the people will fall in love with ones whom they are not supposed to love. However, his tragedies (悲剧) can be very dark. Hamlet is about a man who takes revenge (复仇) after he knows it is his uncle that kills his father. But he loses his life in the end. Besides, Shakespeare’s historical plays are also famous. For example, John King is about the early 13th century British history.
Shakespeare’s works also have a big influence on the English language. He created about l,700 new words, including everyday ones like lonely and hurry. Of course, Shakespeare’s English was very different from that of today. But it doesn’t influence his popularity. He left the world great treasures. And they are played more often than any other play writer’s.
Shakespeare is not for an age, but for all time.

3. How does the writer start this passage?
A. By showing an example. B. By telling a story. C. By comparing some facts.
4. The underlined word “banned” in Paragraph 3 means “_________”.
A. allowed B. stopped C. accepted

A. ChatGPT is so intelligent that nothing it provides is incorrect or false
B. most students can achieve lifelong success without problem-solving skills
C. it’s easier for students to cheat in typed reports than in speaking exams
6. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. ChatGPT helps many students with their homework.
B. Educators’ different opinions and moves on ChatGPT.
C. Advantages and disadvantages of ChatGPT.

7. Which of the following CANNOT prove Shakespeare’s plays are popular?
A There are over 400 films and TV plays from his works.
