“Oh, don’t forget your oxygen tanks.” “Of course! I’ll also bring my trekking pole (登山杖) to make sure I can 36 the top.”
Does this 37 between my friends sound confusing (令人困惑的)? After all, the two mountains aren’t even 50 meters high. But it’s meant to be confusing. It’s just a way of joking.
Talking confusingly or “abstractly” (抽象地) is now popular with young people. But for me, it’s 38 new. About twenty years ago, on my first day of middle school, I was 39 “very different.” I had 40 skin than my Chinese classmates. I spoke little, but when I did, it was usually in English. To explain 41 , I came up with an “abstract” reason: I came from an alien planet. Everyone on my planet has dark skin. We 42 each other through telepathy (心灵感应), but of course, English is an international—or interplanetary—language.
My classmates were 43 to have an “alien” among them. They always asked me to share secret “alien” stories with them. Even my teachers were interested in my “home planet.” Of course, they knew it was all a joke. 44 the joke was meaningless, it did help me deal with pressure.
This playful attitude (态度) to life has stayed with me. When I miss the last bus home after a long day at work, I will ride a shared bike for fifteen kilometers. Who knows? If I keep biking like this every day, maybe I’ll 45 it to the Olympics.

When you go to the park, you might notice many older people listening to audiobooks. Audiobooks have become quite popular these days. Is listening to an audiobook as good as reading a book?
In my opinion, reading needs us to focus our attention on the words in a book, and we also need to find time and a place to sit down and read. However, we can listen to audiobooks anytime and anywhere we like, and it gives our eyes a break, too.
Researchers did an experiment to find the answer. Volunteers in group one were asked to listen to an audiobook while volunteers in group two read a book of the same content. It turned out that they recalled the same amount of information, whether they listened to it or read it.
Another study further supported the result above. In the study, researchers scanned people’s brains when they listened to and read books. The result showed that listening to audiobooks activates (激活) almost the same parts of the brain as reading does.
However, some people still believe that they learn better from reading paper books. One reason might be that when we listen to audiobooks, we are often multitasking (处理多个任务), “If you’re trying to learn while doing other things, you’re not going to learn as well,” Daniel Willingham, a professor of psychology at the University of Virginia, told The New York Times.
56.In which picture can we most probably see the audiobook according to the passage?
A. B. C.
57.What’s the discussion mainly about?
A.Why the audiobooks become popular among the old.
B.How to get the knowledge from the audiobooks quickly.
C.Whether listening to an audiobook is as good as reading a book.
58.Who thinks audiobooks are more convenient than paper books according to the passage?
A.The writer. B.The researcher. C.The professor.
59.What can we infer from Daniel Willingham’s words?
A.Audiobooks are not helpful at all for our learning.
B.The older people shouldn’t learn with audiobooks in the park.
C.If we want to learn well with audiobooks, focusing our attention also matters.
60.Which of the following facts directly caused the discussion?
A.Many older people listen to audiobooks in the park.
B.Many people like audiobooks very much these days.
C.Researchers did an experiment about audiobooks.

Hello, everyone. I’m teddy. Today I want to tell you about a little invention I made. It’s called the book holder. I love reading. But sometimes I find it hard to hold a book for a long time. My arms got tired and I had to stop reading to rest. The problem made me think about inventing a book holder. Here was my invention process. First, I drew a simple design on a piece of paper. Then I collected some materials, including an old box with really thick paper. And a clip, which is a small metal object to hold things together. Finally, I glued the pieces of paper cut from the box together. And put the click to the top. I opened my book. And placed the book on it. The book was held by it perfectly. I made it. Now I just put the book holder on my desk. When I want to read. I don’t have to use my arms. I’m really proud of my little invention. It’s not very beautiful or perfect. But it really helps me enjoy reading more. Maybe I can make it better in the future. Like adding a light. But for now, I’m just happy to have it.

C.Researchers did an experiment about audiobooks.

At first, I thought it would be easy. However, I soon found that it was not as simple as I thought. I had to think carefully about how to make the bridge strong and stable. I tried different ways and finally succeeded. I was so happy when I saw my bridge standing strong.

At first, I thought it would be easy. However, I soon found that it was not as simple as I thought. I had to think carefully about how to make the bridge strong and stable. I tried different ways and finally succeeded. I was so happy when I saw my bridge standing strong.
Through this experience, I learned a lot about teamwork and problem-solving. I also realized that learning by doing is much more interesting than just reading books.
