“Mr Nibble’s telling a secret (秘密),” Tex said. He listened carefully. “He wishes he could have a birthday party, but he doesn’t know when his birthday is.”
I just wanted to get the housework over, but Tex and Sally looked so hopeful that I said, “How about celebrating (庆祝) his birthday today?”

Then, we started by making a birthday card for Sally’s friend Lily and a small one for Mr Nibble. Next, we used paper to make three party hats for ourselves and a small hat for Mr Nibble. We found some safe food for hamsters and we made the cutest little cake. At last, we were ready to celebrate. Mr Nibble looked really happy when we showed him the hat and the card. Rainforests are amazing places full of different kinds of plants, food, birds and animals. Can you believe that a single forest in the Amazon may have more kinds of ants than the whole of Britain! And in just one small part of the rainforest, there can be about 480 different kinds of trees.
Rainforests have a smart way of staying healthy. The tall trees make a canopy (树冠层) of branches (树枝) and leaves which protect themselves, smaller plants, and the forest animals from heavy rain, great dry heat from the sun and strong winds. They really play an important role in the health of the rainforests.
The trees in the rainforests grow in an interesting way. Even though they are close to each other, their branches and leaves never touch those of another tree. Scientists think this is the trees’ way to protect themselves so that they won’t get diseases from another tree. It also makes it more difficult for insects, which eat leaves, to move from one tree to another. To live in the forest, animals must climb, jump or fly across the space between trees.
Rainforests get their name for a reason —they get a lot of rain! They can make 75% of their own rain. At least 80 inches of rain a year is normal, and in some areas, there may be as much as 430 inches of rain every year. In just two hours, rivers can rise ten to twenty feet. The humidity (湿气) of large rainforests helps to form rainclouds that may travel to other countries which are in need of rain. Rainforests are a part of nature that help support the environment and keep our planet healthy.
36.What can we learn about rainforests from the first paragraph?
A.They cover a large area. B.They have a lot of wildlife.
C.They are managed by humans D.They provide food for people.
37.What does the underlined word “They” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Tall trees. B.Smaller plants.
C.Forest animals. D.Strong winds.
38.Why do the trees’ branches and leaves never touch those of another tree?
A.To get more sunlight.
B.To protect themselves.
C.To have more growing space.
D.To make insects move easily.
39.Which of the following best describes rainforests according to the last paragraph?
A.Famous. B.Dangerous. C.Dirty. D.Important.
40.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To tell the weather in rainforests
B.To warn the danger in rainforests
C.To give an introduction of rainforests.

Space tourism is space travel for fun. What was once only a dream is now becoming a reality.
After the first man landed on the moon in 1969, some scientists thought that hotels would be built on the moon in the 21st century. They also considered the possibility that families might go for a holiday on the moon. Neither of these predictions (预测) have come true yet—but the rapid development of technology may make these predictions come true.
Some companies tried to send tourists into space successfully, but it was too expensive. In order to make it cheaper, suborbital (亚轨道的) space travel is a choice for many companies. Passengers can go to a height of between 100 and 160 km above earth, experience 3-6 minutes of weightlessness and a view of the stars. and then come back down to earth. This costs about $100, 000 per person.
While it could be an amazing experience, there are some problems with space tourism. Many people believe that it could make global warming (全球变暖) worse and it is not good for the ozone layer (臭氧层). What’s worse, there are still millions of people worldwide who couldn’t pay for it.

On Tuesday, a new game called Black Myth: Wukong was released. It’s a game where you can play as a monkey hero from a famous Chinese story. On the first day, 1.6 million players from all over the world were playing it online. That’s more than the players of games like Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and Elden Ring!

When it comes to doing housework, I’m not always happy.
“OK, you two,” I said, “it’s time to do our hamster (仓鼠)-cage (笼子) housework.”
“Sorry!” said Sally, my little sister. “I was busy making a card for Lily’s birthday party.”
“Her party is not until Saturday. We’ll have much time to make it later,” I said. “For now, the hamster, Mr Nibble, needs to live in a clean place.”
“Hamster party!” Sally and Tex shouted loudly. We could tell Mr Nibble liked the idea. And having our first hamster party to expect made our housework go by in a flash (转瞬间).

A.To get more sunlight.
B.To protect themselves.
C.To have more growing space.
D.To make insects move easily.
39.Which of the following best describes rainforests according to the last paragraph?
A.Famous. B.Dangerous. C.Dirty. D.Important.

Recently I have read a book about China. In the book, there is an old Chinese saying, which says that “Read 10,000 books and travel 10,000 miles.” What does it mean? I don’t understand it. Would you please tell me about it?
I know that Chinese students are often busy with your homework. When do you read? What do you like reading? Why do you read often? Do you enjoy travelling? Can you tell me something about your favorite trip?
I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours,
John
