The next day, after school, I stopped him at my desk. “I’m sorry,” I said, placing my hand on his left shoulder. “I’ve learned what’s going on with you. Why not just take a week’s leave?” David replied, “My mom won’t allow it for fear that it will affect my studies. But I’m too upset, and unable to focus on studying.” He almost cried. Hoping to comfort him, I asked, “Can I give you a hug?” David bent down and hugged me. When he stood straight, I said, “David, continue being active in class. Your good performance in school can cheer your mom up and help her recover.” He looked at me and nodded. From then on, David worked harder than before. On a Sunday morning, I visited his mom, which made David and me more connected. The next year, he was admitted to a great university. What’s more, his mom pulled through months later. 1.Why is the woman growing sunflowers? B I’m a single dad raising a son, so I usually helped my child select my Father’s day gifts, and then paid for them. When my son was a high school senior, he took control of the gifting by offering to drive us to Denny’s for breakfast. But the evening before the holiday, I couldn’t sleep. What kept me awake was the realization that this would be the last Father’s day before my kid left for college. It truly felt like I had just taken the training wheels off my son’s bike. In my household, the fridge door is the all-knowing parental focus holding the academic and sports schedules, the school lunch menu, and the family calendar. Also attached to it are photos, awards, artwork, and the “good” report cards. The refrigerator is a super-sized memory book of my son’s life. I began to go through the objects of significant emotional value, which required me to pull the fridge out because all the baby items were pushed to the sides. As I checked the golden oldies, I quickly realized three things. First, I had too many photos. Second, I needed to clear up the sides of the refrigerator. Third, soccer was a big part of our lives. I never played or watched soccer before parenthood. Yet, I became the coach for all his teams until he reached middle school. Back then I assumed it was my fatherly duty to support my son’s activities, but now I understood that I was wrong. After years of supporting, guiding, and loving my son, I finally recognized that taking part in my son’s life on any level was not a duty— it was an honor. I time-traveled through mementos (纪念品), and each memory helped me understand what being a dad really meant. Teenagers might not give us presents we want or need on Father’s day. But they have already given us the best possible gift — allowing us to feel what it’s like to be their dad. 24.What kept the author awake before Father’s day? A.Planning a surprise for his father. B.Reflecting on his poor father-son relationship. C.Feeling emotional about a special Father’s day. D.Getting excited about the breakfast at Denny’s. 25.Why is the fridge important to the family? A.It adds an artistic touch to the house. B.It holds memories of passing family days. C.It is a source of creativity for school lunch. D.It serves as a gathering place for family members. 26.Why did the author pull out the fridge? A.To redecorate its sides. B.To clear up the kitchen. C.To make room for a new one. D.To uncover personal mementos. 27.Why did the author claim that he was wrong in the last but one paragraph? A.He recognized he had too many photos. B.He regretted not playing soccer before parenthood. C.He realized fatherhood was about pride rather than a task. D.He felt ashamed to let his son take control of the gifting. C Slow motion, a way of displaying action in a manner that appears slower than real-time action, is used in many short videos on social media. A new study shows that slow motion increases the number of likes and views and promotes brand preference, choice and consumer willingness to pay. Although slow motion is used in many videos, there was little scientific evidence on how this technique affects a positive viewing experience. Previous research points to different findings. Radio broadcasts, for example, are enjoyed more when they are played faster. In the new research, subjects were shown GIFs in a slow-motion version and in a normal-speed version. It turned out that slow-motion GIFs were found to be much more enjoyable than the normal fast GIFs. This effect appeared because slow motion is easier for the brain to process. Interestingly, this theory can also explain people’s viewing behavior on an online GIF-sharing platform. In a study that examined several hundred GIFs from a website, the researchers saw that slow-motion GIFs were viewed more often, received more ratings and were generally rated more positively than regular fast GIFs. Marketing researcher Anika Stuppy from Tilburg University states, “We see that the slow-motion technique is especially effective in slowing down movements that are extremely complex and difficult to observe at normal speed.” Videographers themselves can also make a movement complex, and therefore interesting. “For example, a slow-motion video of a cook cutting a steak might be boring, but a close-up of the knife slicing through the meat in slow-motion is pleasing again,” adds Stuppy. However, slow motion is not recommended in some cases, such as a simple dance. Such movements are more boring to watch in slow motion. The research also shows that when slow motion is used for content that is unpleasant, it can make the viewing experience more unpleasant. Finally, the research shows that slow motion creates feelings of safety and familiarity. Therefore, it is not a proper technique when you want to excite the viewer or show a product as “adventurous” or “exciting”. In that case, the researchers recommend fast-motion techniques. 28.What is a notable benefit of slow motion according to the new research? A.Heightening viewing pleasure. B.Inspiring a sense of adventure. C.Developing the viewers’ creativity. D.Aiding in technical problem-solving. 29.Which factor greatly influences the effectiveness of slow motion? A.The platform for sharing the content. B.The quality of the recording equipment. C.The features of the presented movement. D.The viewers’ familiarity with the subject. 30.What does the author advise video creators to do? A.Experiment with advanced fast-motion effects. B.Add pleasant content as much as possible. C.Reduce the repetition of slow motion. D.Apply slow motion to suitable scenes. 31.Which of the following is the best title of the text? A.The power of slow motion in video appreciation B.Social media’s role in shaping video preference C.The development of online video platforms D.Public opinions on slow motion usage D A Harvard research team’s first model of a portable exosuit (机械护甲) is made of cloth components worn on the waist and upper legs. A computer that’s built into the shorts can sense when the user shifts between walking and running. Say the word “exosuit” and super heroes come to mind-somebody like Tony Stark from Marvel Comics, whose fancy suit enables him to become Iron Man. But scientists at Harvard University have been developing an actual exosuit, a wearable machine that can improve an average man’s strength and toughness. This model improves a wearer’s performance while he is walking or running. The lead researcher Conor Walsh says when you put on his team’s suit, you definitely notice that it’s pulling across your joints, so you feel the drive from the suit. But after a while, you don’t really notice it anymore. The suit helps to extend the hip joint, saving the user’s energy. Though you might not notice it, when you shut the suit off after a few minutes of having it turned on, Walsh says, “You really quickly notice that your legs feel a little bit heavier.” Walsh says, “This suit could be helpful for a soldier carrying heavy weights over long distances.” Research on the suit was supported by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, which is part of the United States Department of Defense and develops military technology. “Other future models might help people with medical problems like Parkinson’s disease to move more easily,” he says. “My lab cooperates with a company on a suit to help stroke survivors that is now commercially available.” Karl Zelik, an assistant professor at Vanderbilt University, calls the team’s effort “promising work”. Zelik says it will enhance human abilities during various aspects of daily life. However, he notes that the exosuit field is changing fast. In the future, he says, the best assist devices may not be exosuits at all, but rather technology put inside a person’s body. He predicts that future wearables will also be able to figure out the wearer’s movement intention, and influence it when necessary to improve human performance. 32.What may the exosuit do? A.Cover the user’s wrist and upper legs. B.Sharpen a wearer’s performance of walking C.Enable a person to become a superhero. D.Sense the user’s shift from walking to running. 33.How will people feel when they take the suit off after wearing it for a few minutes? A.Their legs may feel a little heavier. B.Their body may not feel anything strange. C.Their joints will feel pulled by some strength. D.Their body may feel the driving force from it. 34.What do Walsh’s words in Paragraph 4 suggest? A.The suit can safeguard soldiers in the distance. B.He works directly for American military force. C.A certain model of a suit can be purchased now. D.Current models benefit Patients with Parkinson. 35.What’s Zelik’s attitude towards the future of exosuits? A.Promising. B.Indifferent. C.Hopeless. D.Objective. 第二节 (共 5 小题; 每小题 2.5 分, 满分 12.5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Stop Making Excuses and Start Living Instead Whether it’s delaying a difficult conversation or putting off pursuing your biggest dreams, excuses provide us with a temporary shelter from the discomfort we face in our daily lives. 36 By remaining in our comfort zone, we fail to grow and miss out on the good things life has to offer. 37 They make excuses, get stuck in their lives, and repeat the process over and over again. As a former excuse-maker myself, I have learned first hand just what it takes to learn how to stop making excuses for good. In this passage, I will share several practical tips on how to stop making excuses. As we all know, one of the most common reasons that people make excuses is to avoid responsibility. To stop making excuses, you should shift the focus to your own duty. 38 Accepting full responsibility will definitely be uncomfortable at first. But it’s the most important thing you can do to break free from excuse-making. Besides, you should challenge your limiting beliefs. We all have limiting beliefs that form the foundation of different types of excuses that we make. 39 They show up as you tell yourself that you’ll never succeed or that certain goals are out of reach. Consider replacing the negative thoughts with more positive beliefs. Setting goals is one of the best ways to overcome excuses. When setting goals, it’s important to be realistic about what you want to achieve. Try breaking big dreams into specific and achievable goals. 40 A.In this way, you can easily set a realistic goal. B.These excuses will leave others a bad impression. C.There are many examples of limiting beliefs in our lives. D.In my life, I see a lot of people get stuck in the same cycle. E.Then you’ ll notice the excuses you make begin to lose their power. F.The more concrete your goals are, the less room there is for excuses. G.However, they do this at the cost of our long-term sense of satisfaction. 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分 30 分) 第一节 (共 15 小题; 每小题 1 分, 满分 15 分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Ace-Liam Ankrah is a Ghana kid who has set the record as the world’s youngest male artist. During my first term as an educator, the kids taught me about high school and life, and what was important to them. It had been 25 years since I graduated from high school, so I had a lot to learn. I listened, took notes, and asked many questions. My students had more hardship (艰难) than what I had been familiar with at their age. Understanding their situations was not easy, but loving them came easily. When my second term began, my classroom welcomed a group of new students, including one young man who lit up the space every time he passed through the door. David stood tall at six feet and four inches. His strong body gave him the appearance of a grown man. His wide smile and bright eyes charmed every person in the classroom. He was smart, too. David seemed to know the answers to everything. For weeks, he controlled the atmosphere of my class. He was very active. He led group discussions, encouraged others to participate, and earned the highest grades. I was so impressed by him and his abilities that I didn’t ask many questions. I didn’t really take time to get to know him as I had to be with my first-term students. A few weeks passed, and we entered the month of February. David walked quietly into the classroom. His usual smile disappeared, and he looked cold. I asked if he was okay, but he didn’t respond. I encouraged him to participate, but he refused. He was just silent and emotionless. I was puzzled, embarrassed, upset and also angry about his behavior in class. Finally, I called another student to my office. I had noticed him often walking in the hallways with David. “Do you know what’s wrong with David?” I asked. He replied, “Oh, Mrs Green, his mom’s birthday is coming, but she was just found to have cancer.” 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I was shocked and sad.                                    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hoping to comfort him, I asked,“Can I give you a hug?” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 高三英语试题 第 1 页(共 1 页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
