Josh lived in Upland, California, a town surrounded by nature where wild animal encounters were not uncommon. From an early age, he had been told many times to stay calm or make himself look bigger when facing an animal that could easily overpower him. Although he had never had to use this advice, what he saw through the real-time video on his phone made him feel as if he had experienced it.
It was a typical Saturday afternoon, sunny and breezy, when he was at the mall with his family, enjoying a rare day out together. They had just finished lunch at the food court and were on their way back home. However, as they were approaching home, an unexpected alarm on Josh’s security app disrupted their peaceful afternoon.
The notification (通知) suddenly appeared on his screen, informing him that something was moving around his house. Initially, Josh thought it might be a stray animal or perhaps a neighbor’s curious pet. But as he quickly accessed the real-time footage from his security camera, his concern began to grow. There, on his driveway, was a bear, casually walking around as if it owned the place.
Josh’s worry doubled when he noticed a delivery worker, unaware of the potential danger, heading towards his house with a package in hand. Unaware of the bear, the worker was walking into a potentially dangerous situation. With his phone still in hand, Josh quickly activated the two-way communication feature on his video doorbell, hoping to warn the worker.
“Stop right there! There’s a bear! ” Josh’s voice came out through the speaker, clear and urgent.
The worker froze, finally spotting the bear standing on top of a nearby wall, its eyes fixed on him.

【答案】
Instantly, the worker stepped back, clearly surprised. But then, instead of running away, he stood still. In a move that not everyone would think of in such a tense moment, the worker raised his arms in the air to make himself look bigger. Josh, watching the real-time video, could feel the tension as the bear decided what to do next. To his relief, the bear made its choice. Instead of attacking, it jumped down from the wall and quickly ran off into the neighborhood.
The worker’s quick thinking had worked. The danger passed, and the bear, thankfully, wanted nothing more than to avoid the brave delivery worker. Josh rushed home to find the worker still standing at the driveway, a mix of relief visible on his face. “Thanks for the warning,” said the worker, a smile spreading across his face. “I didn’t know what to do, but raising my arms seemed like the best option.” Josh chuckled, impressed by the worker’s composure. “You handled it perfectly. Not everyone would have the courage to stand their ground like that.”

As The Jungle Book song Bear Necessities goes, “forget about your worries and your conflict” can be a little bit difficult when you find yourself face to face with a real bear.
Bears are common in the Northern Hemisphere. As human habitats stretch toward the wilderness, more and more animals cross their paths with those of humans. This can lead to dangerous encounters especially when precautions are not in place. In these situations, keeping your distance is still the best advice.
According to the National Park Service, one should also remain calm as bears, more often than not, are not really willing to attack you. Once in a standoff (对峙), avoid making sudden moves or loud noises as these can trigger aggression. 7-year-old Huxley did exactly what he was told when he encountered a massive bear.
It was a Sunny morning. Huxley was wandering on his way home when a big hulking (笨重的) figure emerges from behind him. A hurried glance backward, he knew it was a black bear. The bear approached cautiously at first, probably sizing up the figure in front of him. A second later, perhaps judging that Huxley was no match for it, the bear burst into a full sprint (冲刺) and ran its way toward the boy.
At first, Huxley was really frightened. However, he knew it was impossible to run or fight with the big beast. In the moment of crisis, he remembered his mother reminds him regularly about these possible encounters. She tells him that if Huxley finds himself face to face with a bear and there are no adults around, he should remain calm.
Huxley calmed down at thinking of this. He stared at the bear down without any movement. This might have been the reason why the young bear stopped dead in its tracks. They faced each other motionless, and there was only a foot distance between them.

【答案】
From around the corner, a neighbor hurriedly walked to the scene. Upon seeing the bear, the neighbor stretched his arms wide open and walked carefully but stepped firmly toward the wild animal. The bear, seeing a larger animal, backed away. It turned back and then hid behind a parked vehicle. The neighbor, wanting to make sure that the bear wouldn’t do anything dangerous for them, followed the animal. Then encounter turned into a game of hide-and-seek, which looked a little scary and thrilling.
The neighbor continued to pressure the bear while the animal tried its best to find an escape route. After a short while, when the bear saw a window of opportunity, the animal sprinted away from the scene. Huxley was rescued. Huxley’s mom was thankful that no one got hurt during the short but terrifying encounter. The event could’ve ended really badly if not for the boy’s presence of mind and the neighbor’s courage and quick thinking. In the end, Huxley rid off through the neighborhood, taking with him the lessons he learned in that encounter.

In 2019, Veronica, a park owner, planned to set free a bear named Archie into the wild, but Veronica worried about his well-being. So she came up with a brilliant plan. If she could prove that Archie was her pet, she could legally adopt him. To do that, she would need to prove beyond every doubt that she was in complete control of the animal.
So Veronica and Archie would go fishing to show the two of them having fun together. Seeing that the bear seemed happy and had a good life with her, the authorities had no choice but to declare that Archie was a pet. This made them very happy and they went fishing every week until something very strange happened one day.
Veronica noticed Archie suddenly started acting strangely. He started rocking the boat back and forth. Veronica looked at him, trying to understand what was happening. She saw in his look something she had never seen before. The bear was amazed at something. But what was it? Veronica put down her fishing rod(钓鱼竿) and gave Archie a hug. “What’s the matter, buddy ?” Then Archie did something she couldn’t have expected. He began to roar (吼叫) , and it got louder and louder. Then Veronica understood that he was calling her attention to see something. What’s he trying to tell me?” thought the confused woman.
Suddenly, Archie lifted his paw and pointed toward the bank. When Veronica looked carefully that way, she found something very surprising. On the shore of the lake was another bear! The animal appeared to be communicating with Archie. She felt there was no negative tension between them. Archie was looking at the other bear with a very warm and tender look.
Veronica then began to row the boat towards the shore. As they approached, Archie jumped out of the boat at high speed and ran toward the animal.

【答案】
To her surprise, the two animals started hugging each other tightly. It was as if they were meeting again after many years’ separation. Veronica was truly touched when she looked at Archie and the other bear in a moment of deep connection. This meeting between the animals made Veronica realize that this was Archie’s home. Then it was time to say goodbye to her best friend. Veronica gave him one last hug with deep sorrow. “I’ll visit you whenever I can, my furry friend!” she said.
Saying goodbye to her great companion was one of the hardest things Veronica had ever done in her life. But thinking that Archie would be happy and in good company with others of his kind, she knew it was the right thing to do. Archie would be safe and comfortable to live his life as he should. Veronica said goodbye to her friend once more as he slowly disappeared with his new companion into the trees of the forest. But one thing was for sure—this wouldn’t be the last time she saw Archie!

This new stepsister (继妹) was really annoying me. She wouldn’t stop talking. What was Dad trying to prove with this family vacation? We couldn’t quickly become the perfect family. I just became a teenager, and Christina was eight.
Dad and I finished putting up the large tent (帐篷) he’d just bought. I walked back to the car to get my backpack. Getting my backpack out of the car, I knocked a pink backpack to the ground. Before I could pick it up, Christina appeared.
“Why’d you throw my backpack on the ground?” She picked the pack up and went into the tent before I could say anything.
After lunch, Dad suggested I take Christina to see redwood trees. He took out a map and circled on it where there was a stand of big redwood trees. I put the map into my pocket, and then set off down the road at the edge of the campground. When I looked back at Christina, all I saw was a pink ball cap. I shook my head. Dad and my new stepmom were crazy if they thought we’d quickly develop a relationship of trust. I was not cut out to be a big brother.
Christina walked quietly behind me. “She doesn’t want to be here either,”I thought.
Reaching a small round hill, we climbed the switchback (之字形坡路) to its top. Christina kept up. We passed a large rock at the top and started down the other side. I looked around and could see the tops of redwood trees popping out above the forest canopy (树冠层). I pointed them out to Christina and saw a smile light her face.
Before I knew it, she took hold of my hand and pulled me down into the field. Then I saw it, sitting on a rock in the middle of the field: a young bear. I held Christina’s hand tightly.
“Ow! Why’d you —”
I pointed to the young bear.
“Can we get closer and pet it?” Christina asked quietly.

Once we got to the redwood trees, Christina forgot all about the young bear and became happy.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
“No,” I said quietly, “stay near me and don’t talk.” I looked for the mother bear but couldn’t find her. I stepped backward slowly. The young bear kept an eye on us but didn’t call out for its mother, who I knew had to be close by. After what seemed like forever, the young bear jumped off the rock and ran away. I finally started breathing again. I turned back to Christina and saw fear filled her eyes. “It’s OK.” I took her hand again. “Stick with me, and you’ll be fine.”
Once we got to the redwood trees, Christina forgot all about the young bear and became happy. She ran to spread her arms around a big tree. “Give me your hand, Sean!” she called. Holding hands with outstretched arms, we couldn’t reach around even one side of the soft tree trunks. I told Christina some facts about the redwood trees. She laughed as I ran after her around the stand of big redwood trees. Maybe this camping trip wasn’t going to be bad.

This new little stepsister is getting on my nerves. She won’t stop talking. What was Dad trying to prove with this family vacation? We can’t instantly become the ideal family. I just became a teenager, and Christina is only 8 years old.
Dad and I finished putting up the large tent. Then I walked back to the car for my backpack, only to knock a pink one to the ground. Before I could pick it up, Christina appeared. “Why’d you throw my stuff on the ground?” she roared.
After lunch, Dad suggested I take Christina to see the sequoia pines (红杉松树), circling on the map where giant sequoias were.
I jammed the map into my pocket and then set off. When I glanced back at Christina, all I saw was a pink cap. I shook my head. Dad and my new stepmom were crazy if they thought we’d instantly bond. I was not ready to be a big brother.
As we walked the trail, the forest canopy (树冠) became thicker, blocking out direct sunlight, making the temperature drop slightly.
“You warm enough?” I asked. She nodded but didn’t look at me. I noticed her hands had got completely covered with the sap (汁液) of a plant. I took a hand wipe from my pack and wiped her hands.
Reaching a small hill, we climbed up it. Sunshine filled the meadow (草地) below. I could see the tops of sequoia pines popping out above the forest on the other side. I pointed them out excitedly to Christina and finally saw a smile light her face.
“Come on, Sean!” She grabbed my hand and pulled me down into the meadow. Then I saw it, sitting on a rock in the middle of the field: a brown-colored bear cub (幼熊). Cute as it seemed, I knew it was dangerous.

【答案】
I instructed Christina to stay close to me and hold my hand firmly. “Don’t move suddenly or make any loud noises,” I whispered to her. “We need to stay calm and slowly back away.” Christina nodded, her eyes wide with fear. The bear cub seemed to have no interest in us and continued playing on the rock. We slowly made our way back to the trial, making sure to keep an eye on the cub. Once we were a safe distance away, I let out a sign of relief. “Wow, did you see that?” Christina exclaimed, a smile returning to her face. “That bear cub was so cute!” “Yeah, but we need to remember that they’re still wild animals and can be dangerous,” I reminded her. “We should always keep a safe distance.”
Keeping a tight hold on her hand, we walked on along the trail marked on our map. Christina chattered away, telling me all about her favorite animals and what she wanted to be when she grew up. As we walked, I found myself starting to enjoy her company. Maybe this family vacation wasn’t such a bad idea after all. As we continued on the trial, I made a mental note to be more patient with Christina and try to bond with her more during our time together.

I met Bosco in the remote wilderness near Mount Robson. At the end of a long day of backpacking, I had put up my tent beside a river and was preparing to catch supper. Then I looked up, and there he was: an enormous black bear, slowly circling within 30 yards.
He wasn’t Bosco to me yet, and I viewed his presence with fear. However, I decided to go about my fishing. The bear came along.
I’ve lived with wild creatures for 30 years, always respecting their first fear—fast movements—so I let the bear see every slow move. Soon he was sitting less than five feet away, interested in my activity. When I landed a fish I threw it to him lightly. He gulped (大口吞咽). And then he moved closer and settled half his 225 kilograms next to me!
When darkness set in, I was still fishing for that bear, attracted as much by his gentle manners as by his eagerness for fish. I began to think of him in a friendly way as Bosco, and I didn’t mind when he followed me back to camp.
After supper, I build up the fire and sat on the sleeping bag. The moment I comfortably lay, he walked over and sat down beside me. I rather enjoyed his warmth. I listened to the rain beating on the tent in time with the steady, powerful heartbeat beneath his thick coat.
Then suddenly Bosco began licking (舔) my hands. Guessing what he wanted, I got him a handful of salt. He excitedly licked until the last grain of salt was gone.
It is from the fish and salt I offered him that I received his trust, dependence and friendship. During the night, he left and came to the sleeping bag several times. Each time he climbed around and over me, but he never put his full weight down when he touched me.

【答案】
The next day I set off again, Bosco followed me as my dog. We walked together, over a hill, down through a running river, up to the next mountain top, through thick trees and down a wide valley. The joyful Bosco jogged and ran back and forth, digging worms or roots and smelling here and there with curiosity. I used a system of fish and salt rewards now and then to teach the bear to respond to the call “Bosco!” I even treated him to tasteful bee bread and hundreds of bees! Following a rich day, we again had a warm sleep.
However, the bear was nowhere to be seen the next morning. I called “Bosco” again and again as I searched around my tent, along the river and in the direction of his foot marks for the whole morning. There was no response and no sign of his coming back. At noon, I cooked lunch with one eye on the hillside. I was then seated for hours waiting for the familiar big figure. Eventually, I admitted that Bosco had left without saying goodbye. I knew I would never again see big brother Bosco. But he left behind a relationship I shall remember.

7.(2024·山东淄博·模拟)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
续写的词数应为150左右。
I woke at 5:30 A.M. after a restless night’s sleep. I slowly unzipped the tent door to inspect the new day. Just like yesterday, the wind had dropped. It was another beautiful Arctic day. I crawled out of my sleeping bag unwillingly. I am normally a morning person but the intense cold outside made that morning most unappealing. Anyhow, it was time to greet Charlie and start the day.
My dog Charlie was up and it was bouncing up and down at the end of his chain looking well rested. I poured what looked like a pound of dog food into his bowl.
Stepping out of the tent, I looked around for bears or tracks and saw none. It would never be a good thing to meet a polar bear. An Inuit (因纽特人) once told me that I should watch out for polar bears. He said that if I met a polar bear, I should keep the following rules in mind. First, keep eye contact, move sideways or slightly forward, never backward, stay calm. Do not show fear and stand beside a large object to make myself appear as large as possible. Weapons like flare gun(信号枪) are necessary, but do not shoot unless forced to. Don’t wound a bear, or you'll make it even more dangerous, and never run.
It was only six o'clock, so I decided to have a leisurely breakfast of a bowl of milk powder, coconut flakes, and butter mixed with warm water. I sat on my sled(雪橇) to enjoy my first breakfast of the expedition only to find that after the third spoonful it was frozen. So much for leisurely breakfasts! I added more warm water and ate the rest as fast as possible.
Suddenly I heard a deep, long growl coming from Charlie’s throat. In a flash I looked at him and then in the direction in which he was staring. It was a female polar bear followed by two cubs(幼崽) slowly, purposefully, toward me. They were two hundred yards away.
Paragraph 1:
With my heart quickening, I grabbed my loaded flare gun and carefully walked sideways a few steps to Charlie.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
The whole event lasted fifteen minutes but seemed years long.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
With my heart quickening, I grabbed my loaded flare gun and carefully walked sideways a few steps to Charlie. Without taking my eyes off the bear, I led him to the sled and fastened his chain to a rope. The bear was getting closer. Remembering all the Inuit had told me, I fired a warning shot to the bear’s left. But on she came. Then, I fired a flare right in front of her. She stopped and looked at me. Then she fixed her eyes on Charlie, who was barking wildly. She looked back at her cubs and waited for them to catch up, then finally moved away toward my right.
The whole event lasted fifteen minutes but seemed years long. My hands were shaking as I stood still, watching the three slowly move north. But despite the fear, I could feel deep down inside a real satisfaction. I now knew that I could stand up to a bear in the wild and stay calm enough to function and still remember the words from the Inuit. With Charlie’s help I had passed my first test.
如:take off,in front of,move away等高级词汇;that I could stand up to a bear in the wild and stay calm enough to function and still remember the words from the Inuit 引导的宾语从句,as I stood still引导的伴随状语从句,With my heart quickening...with复合结构等高级句式。
8.(24-25高二·浙江·测试)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Last October, I took an early morning hike in the MadisonValley in southwest Montana. Knowing that bears are common throughout the area and not wanting to surprise one, I cried out, “Hey, bear!” every 30 seconds.
About three miles in, I stepped out into a grassland and shouted again. A few more steps and I spotted a grizzly bear with her cubs(幼崽) on the track at the upper end of the grassland. The bear saw me right away, and they all ran up the track. But then she stopped, turned, and charged straight for me. I yelled so she would know I was human and hopefully turned back. No such luck. I gave her a full charge of bear spray at about 25 feet. Her rush carried her right through the orange mist and onto me.
I dived face-first into the dirt and wrapped my arms around the back of my neck for protection. She was on top of me, biting my arms, shoulders and backpack. The force of each bite was like a sledgehammer(大锤) with teeth. Over and over she bit me. After what felt like hours but was merely minutes, she disappeared.
Shocked, I carefully picked myself up. I was able to walk, so I half hiked and half jogged back down the track toward my truck, three miles below. I had numerous bleeding wounds on my arms and shoulders, but I knew I would survive.
About five or ten minutes down the track, I heard a sound and turned. It was the grizzly bear down at 30 feet. I was lucky after the first attack, but could I survive a second?
Again I protected the back of my neck with my arms and kept tight against the ground to protect my face and eyes. She struck violently down on top of me and bit my shoulders and arms. My hands instantly went numb, and the wrists and fingers were limp and unusable. The sudden pain made me draw back and breathe noisily.

【答案】
I had to find the ways to defeat the bear. I was keeping tight against the ground when suddenly I remembered I had another bear spray. I knew I couldn’t move or make a sound again, so I remained motionless and waited for a good chance to fight back. After several more seconds of silence, the bear seemingly lost patience. Hardly had she taken another bite, I gathered strength and tried to frighten the bear away, using the spray. And then she was gone.
I raised my head and looked around. No bear. I stood up and moved down the track again. Forty-five minutes later, I got into my truck and drove 17 miles to a hospital. It took doctors eight hours to treat the wounds. Most wounds were on my arms and shoulders. A five-inch cut along the side of my head will leave an ugly scar. The next day, I woke up with the wound in the shape of claws across my lower back where the bear had stood on me. Not my best day, but I’m alive.
【分析】这是一篇读后续写作文。
【详解】通过阅读所给文章可知,文章记叙了作者一次清晨徒步旅行时遇到了一头熊,并被熊攻击的事情。

The sun was setting, casting a golden light over the dense forest. Lily and her friends, James and Emily, were lost in the wilds, their hearts heavy with fear and uncertainty. They had been exploring the unexplored for days, but a wrong turn had led them off the course.
The air was filled with the whispering of insects and the rustling (沙沙声) of leaves in the wind. Lily held her compass (指南针) tightly, but it seemed to be swinging in circles, offering no clear direction. James, their fearless leader, scanned the horizon for any sign of civilization, but the only thing visible was the shades of trees stretching into the distance.
Emily’s face was pale, her eyes filled with tears. She grabbed a branch tightly, as if it could provide some comfort in this moment of desperation. Lily reached out and grasped her hand, offering a silent promise.
“We’ll find our way,” James said, his voice steady. “Just stay close and trust each other.”
Just then, they heard a distant roar (咆哮) that shook the ground beneath their feet.
The roar grew louder, echoing through the forest like a thunderclap. Lily’s heart skipped a beat, and she tightened her grip on Emily’s hand. James raised his arm, signaling them to stay silent and still.
Slowly, the source of the roar emerged from the shadows. It was a huge bear, its fur a mixture of brown and black, and its eyes flashing with a violent light. The bear smelled the air, and then its gaze settled on the three friends.
James moved forward, his hands raised in a calming gesture. “Stay still,” he whispered. “Don’t make any sudden movements.”
Lily’s mind raced. She knew they had to find a way to escape, but with the bear blocking their path, every option seemed impossible. Suddenly, she spotted a small stream nearby, its water glinting in the fading light.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
“The stream!” She shouted in a low excited voice. “We can follow it downstream. It might lead us to civilization.” James nodded quickly, and they began to edge their way towards the stream, keeping their eyes fixed on the bear. Inch by inch, they moved closer, their hearts pounding in their chests. Finally, they reached the stream. James gave a gentle signal, and they turned, putting their backs to the bear as they cautiously stepped into the water. The bear watched them go, its eyes following their every move. But as they moved further away, it seemed to lose interest and eventually turned away, disappearing back into the depths of the forest.
Relief flooded through their bodies as they continued their downstream journey. The light of the moon guided them through the night, and they whispered encouraging words to each other as they pressed onward. Hours later, they stumbled upon a small village, its lights twinkling in the distance. They had made it. Their hearts filled with joy and gratitude as they walked towards the warmth of a new beginning. The journey home was long, but with every step, they grew stronger, knowing that they had faced their fears and emerged victorious in the end.

There’s a saying in the West that when things get tough, you have to be brave and never give up. In Wyoming, the history of cowboys braving the bad environment to protect their farms during sub-zero weather, and fixing things on their own in the tough situation, is stuck in peopled minds. They are as independent as they are loyal. Hardened physically by their labors, they still have hearts as big as the Wyoming sky.
In Powell, Wyoming, you’ll find a tight group of college wrestlers (摔跤手). After practice one autumn morning, four of them went out into the wilderness (荒漠) to have a hike. The group divided into pairs to try different routes.
Five miles into the wilderness, Brady Lowry was attacked by a bear. The huge bear knocked him off a small hill, breaking his arm in the attack. It happened so fast he didn’t have time to get out of the way.
Teammate Kendell Cummings, who was a short distance away, shouted and rushed toward the bear, trying to frighten him away. “I caught and pulled him hard by the ear,” Cummings said. The bear turned from Lowry, jumped up and attacked Cummings, quickly knocking him to the ground. I could hear when his teeth would hit my head. I could feel when he’d bite down on my bones.”
The bear finally left, and Cummings stood up, blood pouring from open wounds on his face and arms. He called to his teammate. “I think the bear heard me. It kind of circled around and got me again.” Cummings recalled. He lay still, bleeding, until the bear left again.
After several minutes, he got up and found Lowry, and the two bloodied young men began the difficult journey down the mountain. At first they didn’t feel so much pain. But hiking down the rocky slope (斜坡) soon became unbearable. Lowry used his cellphone to call their other two teammates, Orrin Jackson and August Harrison, who met them on the way.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Orrin Jackson and August Harrison called the Search and Rescue team while carrying their teammates down the mountain. The Search and Rescue team set off at once after receiving the call. The two wounded were rushed to the hospital without any delay. Both Lowry and Cummings received multiple surgeries. It wasn’t long before the rest of their other teammates joined them in the hospital, staying for two days and two nights until Cummings and Lowry were in the clear. Fortunately, their lives were not in danger, but it would take some time to heal.
After leaving the hospital, Lowry felt very grateful(感激的) to his team mates. He was emotional about the experience, and grateful that his friend and teammates had saved his life. “That’s what the wrestling team does — we go to hell and back with each other. We all keep the cowboy spirit — loyal to friends and brave all difficulties,” he said. It will take months for the two brave wrestlers to recover from their life-threatening injuries. But they also plan on returning to the team as soon as possible.

I drove to Yosemite Valley, California, for the first time in years. This was the first time I’d traveled to the valley by myself. I connected with my friends and found out about Facelift, a project started by a rock climber, Ken Yager. The goal was to spend a week volunteering to clean up trash in Yosemite Valley.
Thankfully, Yosemite Valley only has one or two roads, so it was impossible for me to stay lost for long. I pulled into Yellow Pine, the campground set aside for volunteers at the event.
I felt shy and insecure as a new comer. When I found the Group camp area, I saw eight event coordinators (协调者) I’d been talking with recently but had never met. These were outdoor people. I found a campsite, parked, got out, and walked over and introduced myself. They were nice.
The week turned into a wonderful learning experience. Meeting new people was a bonus. A few became forever friends. But the nights were really hard! I was alone in my tent in the thick, black forest. There were absolutely no lights. I rarely slept. A ranger (护林员) warned us about recent bear activity in our campground. A mother bear and her cub had been spotted wandering around during the day. The ranger explained that bears with cubs are especially dangerous. Great information, I thought. What should I do with it? I knew, my fear doubled.
Each night, I wrapped the band of my headlamp around my wrist so I could instantly turn on its bright light. I placed a couple of metal pots by my sleeping bag to make noise if I heard anything. I lay awake most of the night staring at the tent door to see if it moved.
The week flew by. I enjoyed every part of it, except for the sleepless nights. My daughter Leah joined me on the last day. We would drive together back home.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Leah asked how I did camping alone for the first time. I said I’d remembered much from my outdoorsy past, but the nights were hard, really hard. I told her about the terror each night would bring. How I rarely slept, watching the door of the tent to see if a bear would break in. All night, I would watch that door, listening to any slight sound or movement, dozing only briefly and then waking with a start at the slightest noise. I told her about the headlamp, and the pots and pans.
After I finished, Leah gave me a funny look. Then, there was dead silence for a while. I could tell she was thinking. Finally, with hesitation, she said, “Uh, you know, Mom, bears don’t really know where the door in a tent is once it’s closed and zipped up.” I thought for a moment, putting everything she said in place, and then started laughing happily. The entire week, while I was watching the door, a bear could have tear the thin tent wall right behind my head or the wall right next to my sleeping bag. I felt like such a fool.

Grady and his family go camping every summer. As it was becoming hotter, here came the camping time.
Having planned the camp long, the family finally decided the destination—the Great National Forest. With food, necessity and cookers loaded onto the car, the family squeezed (挤进) into the car. The car door closed, heat was shut outside.
In the car, Jared, Grady’s younger brother was playing with a toy, making great noise. Grady’s mother talked excitedly with his father. As soon as he sat in the car, Grady put on the earphones and turned on the music. He neither wanted to join his brother nor joined any talk. After what seemed to be hours, the car stopped where they headed. Grady threw down his backpack and slammed (砰地关上) the car door.
“This will be a lengthy week,” he said unhappily to no one in particular. He looked around the campground. Hundreds of tall and green fir trees covered the mountainside like a green carpet. The sun would be setting soon. Grady thought maybe the heat wouldn’t be unbearable. But actually now in the mountain, the hot July left him extremely uncomfortable.
Grady hated camping, but it was something his family insisted on every summer. His father liked cooking over an open air, telling stories about how to survive things like bear attacks and bites of bees. His mother and Jared liked to hike and take pictures of animals. Jared had a collection of insect pictures that he had put on the walls in his half of their room. Grady thought they were just scary and that Jared was a strange kid.
They set up camp—two tents, one for his parents and one for himself and Jared. While everyone else started preparing dinner, Grady, looking for some place to cool down, set off for the nearby river, which was deep enough to swim in.

【答案】
As Grady got close to the river, he saw a cute bear cub(幼崽). Though Grady didn't like animals, he couldn't resist such a lovely bear cub measuring no more than two feet tall with a cute face. It was playing pretty joyfully at the edge of the river. So absorbed was the bear cub in playing that it wasn't aware that someone was approaching. Driven by curiosity, Grady walked on tiptoe, moving closer to have a look at it. Suddenly he heard a sound behind him.
Turning around, he saw an angry bear moving fast towards him. Shocked and dumb, Grady was rooted onto the ground for seconds, and then dashed to their camp desperately, shouting for help in the meantime. Fortunately, Grady's father heard the shout in time to come to his assistance. To their surprise, realizing the danger was away, the furry giant stopped chasing and returned to the river, picking up her baby, and holding it in arms tightly. In the distance, attracted by the noise, Jared and his mother were trying to take a photo of the bear cub and its mother.

The dramatic incident occurred during an afternoon hike. Four friends and teammates from Northwest College in Cody , Wyoming, had been hiking in the Montana national forest. As they hiked, a bear suddenly attacked the closest hiker Brady Lowry. “It shook me around and I didn't know what to do,” Brady recalled the terrifying attack. The bear shook him by the arm and then threw him away.
Brady's friend, Kendall Cummings, reacted quickly to try to scare the bear away. He yelled and kicked at the bear and pulled on the bear's fur. “I didn't want to lose my friend,” said Kendall.“I could have run and potentially lost a friend but I didn't do that. I thought I would get him off and save him.”
The bear turned its attention to Kendall and knocked him to the ground. In protecting his friend, Kendall became the target of the bear's forceful attack. Eventually, the other teammates scared the bear enough so that it soon withdrew and ran off.
After the attack, Kendall was badly injured, but he managed to pull himself up. The teammates then helped Kendall off the mountain by supporting his weight and carrying him part of the way. Once the boys reached a location with cell service, they dialed 911 for help.
After half an hour, some rescuers arrived at the scene. They examined Kendall and Brady and they were sent to Billings Clinic Hospital in a rush for their injuries. Brady broke his arm and suffered serious wounds in the initial attack. Kendall underwent surgery for more serious injuries on his face and arm. Both boys were on the road to recovery. Their wrestling coach, Jim Zeigler, arrived at the hospital along with the rest of the team to offer support.

1.(24-25高三上·福建宁德·阶段练习)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
