Tanghulu is a Chinese snack, which has been popular on TikTok recently, with many people sharing videos of making it at home. We’ll talk about something about tanghulu.
Tanghulu is traditionally made of dried hawthorn berries (山楂), which look like small red apples. Street businessmen coat the hawthorn berries with sugar syrup (糖浆). That is what makes it bright and smooth. Served on a stick, it becomes a popular hit in Chinese street markets. Couples on a date, children or teenagers looking for a treat will enjoy this fruit snack. Its popularity has spread across different countries. And other fruits like grapes, blueberries, apples, and even pineapples can be used to make tanghulu as well.
Although tanghulu is made of fruits, it is certainly not the healthiest snack. For example, if you eat 20 candied fruits, you will get about 400 calories, equivalent (等同的) to a cheeseburger. While the fruits can provide Vitamin C, the sugar coating can be harmful to the tooth if you eat it too often.
Historical records show that tanghulu is from Northern China. As a traditional Chinese snack, tanghulu has a long history dating back to the Song Dynasty. Many stories talk about how it started. One of them says that a woman was too ill to eat anything until a doctor suggested coating dried fruit with sugar. Whatever the truth, tanghulu becomes very popular. You can see it in theaters, streets, and tea houses.
24. What fruit is tanghulu traditionally made of?
A. Grapes. B. Apples
C. Strawberries. D. Dried hawthorn berries.
25. Which question can help you know the main idea of Paragraph 4?
A. Is tanghulu healthy? B. What is tanghulu made of?
C. How has tanghulu developed? D. Who invented tanghulu?
26. What do you know about tanghulu?
A. It is one of the healthiest snacks.
B. It can date back to the Tang Dynasty.
C. Pineapples can be used to make tanghulu nowadays.
D. It becomes a popular hit only in Chinese street markets.
C
Today, something happened that made Ryan really angry. During a group discussion, Michael not only stopped his speech on purpose but also called his idea stupid in front of their classmates. Ryan tried to explain himself, but then Michael encouraged the other classmates to laugh at him.
Later, Ryan went to his best friend, Jerry, and angrily told him what had happened. After listening, Jerry suggested that Ryan write a letter to Michael.
“You can really give him a piece of your mind,” Jerry said. Ryan quickly wrote a strongly worded letter and then showed it to Jerry.
“Right, right,” Jerry said loudly. “This is exactly what I want. Give him a good scolding (责骂). You wrote it really well, Ryan.”
But when Ryan was about to put the letter into an envelope, Jerry stopped him and asked, “What are you going to do with it?”
“Send it,” Ryan replied, confused (困惑的).
“Don’t be silly,” Jerry said, “You can’t send this letter. Throw it onto the stove (炉子). That’s what I do with letters I write when I’m angry. This letter is well-written. Writing it helped you let out your anger, right? Now you feel better, don’t you? So burn it and leave the anger behind.”
When people are angry, their words and actions can lose their senses. The fire of anger can not only burn others but also burn oneself. So, when you are burning with anger, take a deep breath. Control your feelings and think about your actions to avoid terrible results.
27. Why was Ryan really angry?
A. Michael called him a fool.
B. Michael copied his idea.
C. Michael said his idea was stupid.
D. Michael didn’t talk with him during the discussion.
28. What did Jerry advise Ryan to do at first?
A. Write a letter to Micheal. B. Argue with Michael.
C. Forget Michael’s bad act. D. Report Michael to the teacher.
29. How might Ryan deal with the letter in the end?
A. He might rewrite it. B. He might burn it.
C. He might keep it for himself. D. He might send it to Michael.
30. What can we learn from the story?
A. It is impolite to laugh at others.
B Don’t let anger take control of you.
C. Best friends always give good advice.
D Don’t care about those who dislike you.
第二节 阅读表达(共5题;每题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
People often set many alarms to wake themselves up for fear of oversleeping. However this can be bad for one’s health because it makes sleep quality poorer, according to Brandon Peters, a doctor from Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle, US.
A good sleep happens in cycles (周期), according to Medical News Today. Each cycle has four stages. During stage one, we go into a light sleep. Our body relaxes and our heartbeat slows. As we fall deeper into sleep, stage two begins. Our eyes stop moving and our body temperature drops. Then comes the third stage which is the deepest sleep and also the hardest for people to wake up from.
Last is the fourth stage, known as rapid eye movement sleep, or REM sleep. Our eyes move rapidly from side to side during this stage. At the same time, our breathing picks up and our heartbeat rises.
REM sleep is very important because most of our dreams take place during it. This allows our brain to process emotions (情绪). REM sleep also helps the brain turn the new knowledge learned during the day into memories. When we get enough REM sleep, it is easier to focus on studying the next day, said the National Sleep Foundation of the US.
Since REM sleep mostly takes place in the last hours of a night’s sleep, it is a bad idea to break it with alarms ringing one after another.
“My general advice is that you set one alarm,” said Alicia Roth at the Cleveland Clinic in the US.

第二节 阅读表达(共5题;每题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
People often set many alarms to wake themselves up for fear of oversleeping. However, this can be bad for one’s health because it makes sleep quality poorer, according to Brandon Peters, a doctor from Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle, US.
