Hug a tree? Recently, many people have shared their experience of hugging trees online, they turned to trees to help with their stress.
A month ago, I hugged an orange tree in a nearby park for the first time. I wrapped my arms around it and rested my cheek on the bark. I closed my eyes, took a few deep breath and felt really calm during that moment.
Hugging a tree is a different experience from hugging a person or an animal. Although it sounds strange, there is a science behind the act of tree-hugging.
It can be explained by the “biophilia hypothesis” (亲生命假说). A US scientist Edward Wilson pointed it out in 1984. He said that humans are born to love being around other living things. Humans’ love for nature is “in our DNA”. This idea helps to explain why people like natural, green views better than city views. Besides, spending time with trees can reduce your stress hormones (压力荷尔蒙) and make you feel relaxed. In addition, trees release some special oils. These oils protect trees from illnesses and germs. They are also good for human health, because they can make your immune system (免疫系统) stronger.
On top of that, hugging a tree gives you a chance to really look at the tree. You can smell it, touch its bark and listen to the rustling of its leaves. Hugging trees gives you a deeper connection (联系) to nature. You begin to enjoy nature more. It will make you pay more attention to environmental protection.
29. When the writer hugged a tree, she did all the following things EXCEPT ________.
A. taking a few deep breath B. telling her secrets to the tree

A. The feeling of stress. B. The act of hugging a person or an animal.
C. The feeling of calmness. D. The act of hugging a tree.
31. What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A. People can hug trees to help with their stress.
B. People are born to love being around some green trees.
C. Special oils can reduce people’s hormones and help them relax.
D. When hugging a tree, you have the same feeling as hugging a person.

A. taking a few deep breath B. telling her secrets to the tree

A. People can hug trees to help with their stress.

Do you have lunch at school? Do you like having lunch at school? School meals are a hot topic in the UK these days. Some people think that school meals are not healthy, some people say that they are much better now, and others say that they should be free for all the schoolchildren.
What does a school meal mean?
A school meal is a meal usually including a main course, a dessert (甜点) and a drink. School meals must include food groups such as fruit and vegetables, protein (for example meat, fish or cheese) and carbohydrate (for example rice or pasta). There are rules about how people prepare the food, for example, there are limits (限制) on how much fried (油炸的) meat students eat at school.
Do all the schoolchildren have school meals?
More than a third of British schoolchildren have school meals. Some take a packed lunch prepared at home. Others either have lunch at home or eat at nearby takeaway restaurants like KFC.
What is the future for school meals?
People plan to examine school meals in the UK and look for ways to make them better. Henry Dimbleby and John Vincent started “Leon”, a chain (链) of restaurants which aim to sell healthy fast food. The British government has asked the two restaurant owners to collect information about school meals and try to make the dishes not only tasty but also healthy.

【答案】例文
Dear Chairperson,
I would like to join Zhenjiang Wildlife Protection Society. My name is Li Ming.
I’m in Class One Grade Eight. I’m a kind boy and I once saved a cat from a snowstorm. I like animals and pandas are my favorite. They are so cute and can make my heart full of warmth.
However, animals are facing serious problems now because their living areas are becoming smaller and smaller. In addition, natural disasters happen often because of the changeable weather. As a result, animals have nowhere to live or food to eat. Also, some people catch them for fun. What a shame!
It’s time for us to do something more for them now. I will ask my mother not to buy clothes made of animals’ fur any more. I plan to write to the government to ask them to make laws to protect the environment. As a student, I can also make some posters to let others know the importance of nature. I’ll be very happy if I can be a member of the society. You can call me on 0511-8823678 or email me at liming@zhenjiang.com.
Yours sincerely,
Li Ming
