B. It causes air pollution. C. It is useless for hard materials. A 19. C 20. For a long time, people have been burying their garbage. Unfortunately, there is less and less empty land that can be used as garbage places in our planet today, yet more and more garbage is being produced each year. How should we manage our garbage? Do we have enough energy sources to meet our future energy needs? These are two of the most important questions in the modern world, and many people are trying to find the answers. Some people think that we might be able to solve both problems at the same time. They suggest that garbage should be used as an energy source. For example, some cities in the United States have been burning garbage to create fuel for years. But studies have shown that it is not a good idea. Burning garbage for energy causes many serious problems. Garbage that burns easily, such as plastics and paper, must be separated from metals, glass, and other materials that do not burn easily. This separation process is very costly, therefore not being done in most places. Another huge problem with burning garbage is air pollution. A Aurora Borealis, the northern lights, showcases beautiful green, pink, blue and violet-colored lights dancing in the night sky. Give him anything—abandoned metal or plastic items, old devices, dysfunctional printed circuit boards — and he’ll create art out of it. Vishwanath’s passion is particularly relevant in the current age, where India generates more e-waste than it can recycle. From 2019 to 2020, the country generated a total of more than 1 million tonnes of e waste. Of this, only 22.7 percent was collected, taken apart and recycled. The eco-artist has upcycled and transformed nearly 200 kg of e-waste into usable products and proposes eco-art as a means to deal with waste management. Vishwanath’s father, D M Shambhu, was a famous sculptor and painter, but he wanted his son to choose medicine and become a doctor. However, Vishwanath, who was interested in upcycling second-hand objects right from childhood, decided to pursue a BFA in Applied Art. He later went on to work in a company as a high-level administrator and retired two years ago. “In my free time and during the weekends. I used to conduct experiments in e-waste and try to develop something unique,” he recalled. So far, the eco-artist has created more than 500 objects. These include a six-foot tall sculpture made from upcycled computer keyboard keys, and a painting inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, using upcycled resistors (电阻器) on wood. Among his other artworks are a 42×38 inch figure statue created from upcycled keyboard keys on a sun board finished with plastics, a deer made of colorful used wires, plants and flowers from computer parts, and eco jewellery from upcycled digital wrist watch parts. “The work involves selecting the e-waste objects—the texture, shape, and colour etc, and visualising and conceptualising the final product. It might take weeks and months for sculptures. However, sustainable initiatives and upcycled art are nowadays in demand in multinational companies opting for a sustainable culture,” he said. 24. What does the author try to convey in paragraph 2? A. The seriousness of e-waste in India. B. Vishwanath’s passion for environment protection. C. The achievements of waste management in India. D. Vishwanath’s attitude towards dealing with e-waste. 25. What did Vishwanath work as before retiring? A. A passionate eco-artist. B. A private doctor. C. A famous sculptor. D. A senior manager. 26. Which of the artworks were made of the same materials? A. The deer and the plants. B. The sculpture and the figure statue. C. The painting and the flowers. D. The deer and the eco jewellery. 27. What does Vishwanath think of his working on eco-art? A. Exciting but unprofitable. B. Creative but useless. C. Demanding but worthwhile. D. Efficient but costly. A 25. D 26. B 27. 根据第二段前三句“Vishwanath’s passion is particularly relevant in the current age, where India generates more e-waste than it can recycle. From 2019 to 2020, the country generated a total of more than 1 million tonnes of e waste. Of this, only 22.7 percent was collected, taken apart and recycled. (Vishwanath的热情在当今时代尤为重要,因为印度产生的电子垃圾比它能回收的还要多。从2019年到2020年,该国共产生了100多万吨电子垃圾。其中,只有22.7%被收集、拆解和回收。)”可知,本段主要介绍印度电子垃圾的处理现状十分严重。故选A。 根据第三段第三句“He later went on to work in a company as a high-level administrator and retired two years ago. (他后来在一家公司担任高级管理人员,并于两年前退休。)”可知,他退休前是一名企业高管。故选D。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段第二三句“These include a six-foot tall sculpture made from upcycled computer keyboard keys, and a painting inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, using upcycled resistors (电阻器) on wood. Among his other artworks are a 42×38 inch figure statue created from upcycled keyboard keys on a sun board finished with plastics, a deer made of colorful used wires, plants and flowers from computer parts, and eco jewellery from upcycled digital wrist watch parts. 根据末段最后两句““It might take weeks and months for sculptures. However, sustainable initiatives and upcycled art are nowadays in demand in multinational companies opting for a sustainable culture,” he said. (“雕塑可能需要几周甚至几个月的时间。然而,在选择可持续文化的跨国公司中,可持续发展的倡议和升级的艺术是当今的需求,”他说。)”可知,创作雕塑品需要时间长,但是又有需求。可推断出,他的工作费时费力但是值得。故选C。 C Slow motion, a way of displaying action in a manner that appears slower than real-time action, is used in many short videos on social media. A new study shows that slow motion increases the number of likes and views and promotes brand preference, choice and consumer willingness to pay. Although slow motion is used in many videos, there was little scientific evidence on how this technique affects a positive viewing experience. Previous research points to different findings. Radio broadcasts, for example, are enjoyed more when they are played faster. In the new research, subjects were shown GIFs in a slow-motion version and in a normal-speed version. It turned out that slow-motion GIFs were found to be much more enjoyable than the normal fast GIFs. This effect appeared because slow motion is easier for the brain to process. Interestingly, this theory can also explain people’s viewing behavior on an online GIF-sharing platform. In a study that examined several hundred GIFs from a website, the researchers saw that slow-motion GIFs were viewed more often, received more ratings and were generally rated more positively than regular fast GIFs. Marketing researcher Anika Stuppy from Tilburg University states, “We see that the slow-motion technique is especially effective in slowing down movements that are extremely complex and difficult to observe at normal speed.” Videographers themselves can also make a movement complex, and therefore interesting. “For example, a slow-motion video of a cook cutting a steak might be boring, but a close-up of the knife slicing through the meat in slow-motion is pleasing again,” adds Stuppy. However, slow motion is not recommended in some cases, such as a simple dance. Such movements are more boring to watch in slow motion. The research also shows that when slow motion is used for content that is unpleasant, it can make the viewing experience more unpleasant. Finally, the research shows that slow motion creates feelings of safety and familiarity. Therefore, it is not a proper technique when you want to excite the viewer or show a product as “adventurous” or “exciting”. In that case, the researchers recommend fast-motion techniques. 28. What is a notable benefit of slow motion according to the new research? A. Heightening viewing pleasure. B. Inspiring a sense of adventure. C. Developing the viewers’ creativity. D. Aiding in technical problem-solving. 29. Which factor greatly influences the effectiveness of slow motion? A. The platform for sharing the content. B. The quality of the recording equipment. C. The features of the presented movement. D. The viewers’ familiarity with the subject. 30. What does the author advise video creators to do? A. Experiment with advanced fast-motion effects. B. Add pleasant content as much as possible. C. Reduce the repetition of slow motion. D. Apply slow motion to suitable scenes. 31. Which of the following is the best title of the text? A. The power of slow motion in video appreciation B. Social media’s role in shaping video preference C. The development of online video platforms D. Public opinions on slow motion usage 【答案】28. A 29. C 30. D 31. 根据文章第一段“A new study shows that slow motion increases the number of likes and views and promotes brand preference, choice and consumer willingness to pay.(一项新的研究表明,慢动作增加了点赞和观看的数量,并促进了品牌偏好、选择和消费者支付意愿)”可知,慢动作显著提升了观看的乐趣。故选A。 根据第四段“We see that the slow-motion technique is especially effective in slowing down movements that are extremely complex and difficult to observe at normal speed.(我们看到,慢动作技术在放慢极其复杂且难以正常速度观察的动作时尤其有效)”可知,呈现动作的特征在很大程度上影响了慢动作的效果。 根据文章第五段“However, slow motion is not recommended in some cases, such as a simple dance. Such movements are more boring to watch in slow motion.(然而,在某些情况下,不建议使用慢动作,比如简单的舞蹈。在慢动作中观看这些动作更无聊)”以及最后一段“Finally, the research shows that slow motion creates feelings of safety and familiarity. Therefore, it is not a proper technique when you want to excite the viewer or show a product as “adventurous” or “exciting”. In that case, the researchers recommend fast-motion techniques.(最后,研究表明慢动作会产生安全感和熟悉感。因此,当你想激发观众或将产品展示为“冒险”或“令人兴奋”时,这不是一种合适的技术。在这种情况下,研究人员推荐快速运动技术)”可知,作者建议视频创作者将慢动作应用于合适的场景中。故选D。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,根据文章第一段“A new study shows that slow motion increases the number of likes and views and promotes brand preference, choice and consumer willingness to pay.(一项新的研究表明,慢动作增加了点赞和观看的数量,并促进了品牌偏好、选择和消费者支付意愿)”根据第三段“It turned out that slow-motion GIFs were found to be much more enjoyable than the normal fast GIFs.(结果发现,慢动作动图比正常的快速动图更令人愉快)”可知,主要介绍了慢动作技术如何影响视频的观看体验,尤其是在社交媒体的短视频中,以及这一技术的实际应用和建议。 A。 D For a long time, dogs have played an important role in the aftermath of disasters, using their ability to aid in search-and-rescue missions. Apopo, a global nonprofit, is developing a program that trains African giant pouched rats (巨型鼠) to find people in disaster zones. These little rats, born with great curiosity to explore and search, can fit into tiny spaces, reach deep into rubble (瓦砾), and are quicker than dogs. The rats are often trained in areas built with challenges and loud noises, which they may face at disaster sites. Regularly changing the training grounds is also important so the rats don’t learn to operate through memory. Additionally, they are taught to remain focused and not to pay attention to any nice smells they may find in the rubble. During training, the rats wear light backpacks with cameras to offer rescuers video recordings. The equipment also features a system that allows for the colloquy. “We can’t teach the rats to talk, so we need someway to exchange messages with any survivors in the rubble,” said Sander Verdiesen, an electrical engineer. Though the project is still in development and the rats are not yet active in disaster zones, they have been saving people’s lives in other ways. During a search for landmines (地雷), the rats use their strong sense of smell to systematically search an area the size of a tennis court in 30 minutes, which would take a person clearing landmines up to four days. When the rat discovers a landmine, it digs the ground, letting a team remove it safely. According to Apopo, the rats had contributed to the clearance of over 100 million square meters of land and the removal of 31,739 landmines by the end of 2023. While rats can be trained for many types of jobs, there are ongoing issues of funding and the public’s generally negative view of the species. “We see search-and-rescue dogs as normal. It would be nice for rats to be recognized in the same way. I think we’ll get there. It’s just a matter of when,” said Giangrosso, head of the program. “In the meantime, they’ll continue proving themselves as small but mighty superheroes.” 32. What are the training settings for the rats aimed at? A. Sharpening their memory of past practices. B. Strengthening their teamwork in emergencies. C. Teaching them to recognize harmful materials. D. Improving their performance in tough situations. 33. Which can replace the underlined word “colloquy” in paragraph 3? A. Safety. B. Mistake. C. Communication. D. Recognition. 34. What does the application of rats in landmine removing operations suggest? A. They depend on careful guidance. B. They aid in human efforts effectively. C. They are poor at searching small areas. D. They lose focus quickly during searches. 35. What is Giangrosso’s attitude towards rats’ role in rescue efforts? A. Doubtful. B. Shocked. C. Worried. D. Positive. D 33. C 34. B 35. 根据第二段中的“The rats are often trained in areas built with challenges and loud noises, which they may face at disaster sites. Regularly changing the training grounds is also important so the rats don’t learn to operate through memory. (这些老鼠经常在建造有挑战和噪音的区域进行训练,这是它们可能在灾难现场遇到的情况。定期更换训练场地也很重要,这样老鼠就不会通过记忆来操作了)”可知,对老鼠的训练设置旨在提高它们在困难情况下的表现。故选D。 33题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段中“The equipment also features a system that allows for the colloquy. “We can’t teach the rats to talk, so we need someway to exchange messages with any survivors in the rubble,” said Sander Verdiesen, an electrical engineer. (该设备还配备了一个允许colloquy的系统。“我们不能教老鼠说话,所以我们需要某种方法与废墟中的任何幸存者交换信息,”电气工程师Sander Verdiesen说)”可知,我们不能教老鼠说话,所以我们需要某种方式与瓦砾下的幸存者进行交流。根据语境可推知,colloquy意为“交流”。A. 根据第四段中“During a search for landmines, the rats use their strong sense of smell to systematically search an area the size of a tennis court in 30 minutes, which would take a person clearing landmines up to four days. When the rat discovers a landmine, it digs the ground, letting a team remove it safely. But they’re not flying across our actual skies. Building flying cars is about more than just bringing sci-fi to life. ____36____ Today’s drivers can only travel in two dimensions (维度): north-south and east-west. Flying cars could unlock a third dimension: up-down. Imagine a world where you could beat rush-hour traffic by lifting off the ground. This could be especially useful as the world’s population continues to grow. “I think that finally we will see a day when we use the third dimension to help us get around. ____37____ It will only worsen over time,” said Anderson, the former director of the Eagle Flight Research Center. The main issue with flying cars is their high cost. Personal flying cars may come with a high price tag. Most people could never afford one. But average people may still ride in flying vehicles one day. ___38___ Something like Uber or Lyft for the skies may be more practical than everyone owning one. ____39____ Batteries are heavy, and — like those in electric cars — have a limited operating time. Current rechargeable batteries can only support flying cars for 20 to 30 minutes. While a car that runs out of charge can simply pull over, a flying car would fall out of the sky. So it’s extra important that these batteries last for a long time. Even though some companies plan to produce flying cars sooner, they probably won’t be common in 10 or 20 years. First, aircraft need to be tested over and over for safety. Moreover, the rules of the road aren’t enough. Flying cars require their own set of rules for moving smoothly in the sky. ____40____ A. Powering flying cars is another challenge. B. There might be a rideshare service for flying cars. C. Flying cars save up lots of space without runways. D. Otherwise, Earth is going to be a pretty crowded place. E. These steps are needed before we make flying cars a reality. F. It’s about making better use of space to move people around. G. Repair costs would be much higher than those of a normal car. 【答案】36. F 37. D 38. B 39. A 40. Moreover, the rules of the road aren’t enough. B For Vishwanath Mallabadi from Bangalore, India, there is no such thing as a useless object or “waste”. C Slow motion, a way of displaying action in a manner that appears slower than real-time action, is used in many short videos on social media. Public opinions on slow motion usage D For a long time, dogs have played an important role in the aftermath of disasters, using their ability to aid in search-and-rescue missions. A. Doubtful. B. Shocked. C. Worried. D. Positive. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Flying cars have been a popular feature in sci-fi and fantasy stories since the early 1900s. B There might be a rideshare service for flying cars. C. Flying cars save up lots of space without runways. D. Otherwise, Earth is going to be a pretty crowded place. E. These steps are needed before we make flying cars a reality. F. It’s about making better use of space to move people around. G. Repair costs would be much higher than those of a normal car. 第三部分:英语知识运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 完形填空(共15小题,每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 A New York dad and his graduating daughter are becoming popular because of a lovely gift.
