On the street bulletin board 【答案】1. B 2. 根据FOR SALE部分“AM/FM transistor radio A/C or battery, $15; Call John or Pat, 800 - 0739 after 5 or weekends.(AM/FM 晶体管收音机,可使用交流电或电池,售价15美元;下午5点后或周末致电约翰或帕特,电话800 - 0739)”可知,如果你想买收音机,应拨打800-0739。 根据ROOMMATES部分“NEED PERSON to assume lease for own bedroom in apt. near campus, $92/mo. You can click here to find more information of the bedroom.(需要有人承担校园附近公寓自己卧室的租约,每月92美元。你可以点击此处查找该卧室的更多信息)”中提到“click here(点击此处)”,可推断这些广告来自互联网。故选A项。 B When my daughter Abigail got her learner’s permit a few months ago, I was appreciative of those drivers who saw a nervous teenager behind the wheel and treated her with patience as we drove around our neighborhood and the country roads close by. Her first travels around our part of the Southern End were rather slow (cars piled up behind us). So thank you, nice people. But I want to single out other drivers for my appreciation. I will call you “friends”. But no kidding, I sincerely want to thank you “friends”, because you have taught my daughter not to take anything for granted on the roads. You deserve the credit for making her a defensive driver. I warned her about “friends” like you, but your actions speak much louder than my words. She’s watched you go through red lights and stop signs, turn without signaling, fail to yield at the crossroads, or hesitate at a stop sign and then pull out into her path at the last millisecond. I especially appreciated the “friend” who pulled up beside us the other night at a stop sign on a two-way road and took off quickly as Abigail just started to make her move. “What was that!” Abigail shouted. “That’s a ‘friend’!” I yelled. And then there are those of you who find a slow-moving vehicle (farm machinery down our way) in your lane and swing out into the opposite lane to pass oblivious of vehicles coming in the opposite direction. My daughter has learned that a tractor coming her way means there might be an impatient “friend” hiding, ready to cross into her lane. That’s an invaluable lesson. Thanks. And thank you to all the walkers, adults and children, who appear from between cars. “Be ready to stop” is a lesson that you have taught my daughter well. At the same time, I have taught her the rules for yielding to walkers. Teaching a teen to be a defensive driver isn’t easy. I want you to know that I couldn’t have done it without you, my “friends”. 3. The people mentioned in the first two paragraphs were . A. tolerant B. strict C. cautious D. slow 4. According to the passage, the author’s daughter . A. has made a lot of friends after she got her learner’s permit. B. often turns without signaling and hesitates at a stop sign. C. has learned to be careful of drivers who break the rules. D. has become an experienced driver in a few months. 5. What is the author’s attitude towards the drivers whom he calls “friends”? A. Grateful B. Indifferent C. Sympathetic D. Annoyed 6. The underlined word “yield” in Paragraph 6 means . A. make way for you B. give up hope C. shout at you D. produce crops 7. What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage? A. To express his thanks to his friends. B. To warn people to obey traffic rules. C. To advise teens to be careful when driving. D. To explain to teens how to be a good driver. 3. A 4. C 5. A 6. A 7. 根据第一段“When my daughter Abigail got her learner’s permit a few months ago, I was appreciative of those drivers who saw a nervous teenager behind the wheel and treated her with patience as we drove around our neighborhood and the country roads close by.(几个月前,我女儿阿比盖尔拿到了学习许可证,我很感激那些看到方向盘后面是一个紧张的青少年,并在我们在附近街区和周边乡村道路行驶时,耐心对待她的司机们。)”以及第二段“Her first travels around our part of the Southern End were rather slow (cars piled up behind us). So thank you, nice people.(她最初在我们南端这一带行驶得相当慢(车在我们后面排起了长队)。所以,谢谢你们,善良的人们。)”可知,这些司机对作者女儿开车慢很有耐心,很宽容。故选A项。 根据第六段“She’s watched you go through red lights and stop signs, turn without signaling, fail to yield at the crossroads, or hesitate at a stop sign and then pull out into her path at the last millisecond.(她看到你们闯红灯、无视停车标志、转弯不打转向灯、在十字路口不 yield,或者在停车标志前犹豫,然后在最后一刻驶入她的车道。)”以及第七段 “‘What was that!’ Abigail shouted.(‘那是怎么回事!’阿比盖尔喊道。)”和第八段“‘That’s a “friend”!’ I yelled.(‘那就是一个 “朋友”!’我喊道。)”等内容可知,作者女儿看到了这些违规司机的行为,并且对此有了警惕。故选C项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“But no kidding, I sincerely want to thank you ‘friends’, because you have taught my daughter not to take anything for granted on the roads. You deserve the credit for making her a defensive driver.(但不开玩笑,我真心感谢你们这些‘朋友’,因为你们教会了我女儿在路上不要把任何事情都视为理所当然。你们让她成为一名防御性驾驶者,这值得称赞。)”以及最后一段“Teaching a teen to be a defensive driver isn’t easy. I want you to know that I couldn’t have done it without you, my ‘friends’.(教一个青少年成为一名防御性驾驶者并不容易。我想让你们知道,没有你们,我的‘朋友们’,我做不到这一点。)”可知,作者虽然称这些违规司机为“朋友”,但实际上是感谢他们让女儿学会防御性驾驶。故选A项。 根据第六段“She’s watched you go through red lights and stop signs, turn without signaling, fail to yield at the crossroads, or hesitate at a stop sign and then pull out into her path at the last millisecond.(她看到你们闯红灯、无视停车标志、转弯不打转向灯、在十字路口不____,或者在停车标志前犹豫,然后在最后一刻驶入她的车道。)” 故选A项。 通读全文可知,文章通过描述各种违规驾驶行为以及这些行为对作者女儿驾驶学习的影响,如“Teaching a teen to be a defensive driver isn’t easy. I want you to know that I couldn’t have done it without you, my ‘friends’.(教一个青少年成为一名防御性驾驶者并不容易。我想让你们知道,没有你们,我的‘朋友们’,我做不到这一点。)”,其目的是警告人们要遵守交通规则。故选B项。 C A supersonic airline like Concorde, flies at twice the speed of sound. A passenger can leave London at noon and arrive in New York at ten o’clock that same morning! There is a five-hour time difference between the two cities and Concorde can fly the Atlantic in only three hours. That evening the passenger will feel it is time to go to bed when it is only six o’clock in the evening. Airline pilots suffer from this jet lag very much. It may be in the middle of the night in Hong Kong but their stomachs are still on London time, where it is dinner time. Pilots and other airline crew have to adjust to constant changes in time. That is why they often look fifty years old when they are only forty. This adjustment to sudden changes causes all sorts of problems. Businessmen who travel from one side of the world to the other in one day are told never to make important decisions during the first twenty-four hours after landing. Air travel is getting faster all the time. Engineers say that soon people will be “shot” to their destinations in huge rockets, which will be able to carry a quarter of passenger capacity in general airliner at a time. These rockets will be shot high above the earth’s atmosphere and land on the other side of the earth forty-five minutes after take-off. They will be able to cross the Pacific Ocean, such as from Los Angeles to Honolulu, in only eighteen minutes. But, of course, passengers will be faced with the same problems on the ground that they face at present. We shall still spend hours getting to the airport. Today, the shortest part of the journey and the least difficult is in the air. The worst and longest part is on the roads leading from the center of town to the airport. The roads become crowded increasingly while our planes become faster and faster. 8. If you leave London at eight o’clock by plane whose speed is the same as that of sound, you will arrive in New York at . A. three o’clock B. six o’clock C. nine o’clock D. twelve o’clock 9. Pilots often look older than they really are because . A. they eat dinner in the middle of the night B. they suffer a lot from the changes in time C. they have to work at the weekend D. they live far away from the airport 10. According to the text, the number of passengers in a general airliner is the one in a huge rocket at a time. A. four times larger than B. a quarter as large as C. seventy-five percent of D. five times larger than 11. What can be learned according to the passage? A. people will spend less time on the ground as air travel is getting faster B. a supersonic plane can fly the Pacific in only eighteen minutes C. the rocket is the fastest and least difficult means of travel D. the speed of sound is only half that of a Concorde 【答案】8. C 9. B 10. A 11. 根据第一段中“A supersonic airline like Concorde, flies at twice the speed of sound. A passenger can leave London at noon and arrive in New York at ten o’clock that same morning! There is a five-hour time difference between the two cities and Concorde can fly the Atlantic in only three hours.(像协和式飞机这样的超音速飞机,飞行速度是音速的两倍。 根据第一段中“Airline pilots suffer from this jet lag very much. It may be in the middle of the night in Hong Kong but their stomachs are still on London time, where it is dinner time. Pilots and other airline crew have to adjust to constant changes in time. That is why they often look fifty years old when they are only forty. (航空公司的飞行员深受这种时差的困扰。香港可能是半夜,但他们的胃仍然在伦敦时间,那里是晚餐时间。飞行员和其他机组人员必须适应时间的不断变化。这就是为什么他们只有四十岁,却看起来像五十岁的原因。)”可知,飞行员看起来比实际年龄大是因为他们深受时差变化之苦,需要不断适应时间的持续变化。故选B项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中 “Engineers say that soon people will be ‘shot’ to their destinations in huge rockets, which will be able to carry a quarter of passenger capacity in general airliner at a time.(工程师们表示,很快人们将被巨大的火箭“击中”目的地,这种火箭一次能够运载普通客机四分之一的乘客。)” 根据 文章第一段“A supersonic airline like Concorde, flies at twice the speed of sound.(像协和式飞机这样的超音速航空公司,飞行速度是音速的两倍。)” D Over Half of Young Chinese Block Parents on WeChat Moments We all know the feeling — you want to check what someone you care about has been up to on social media, and suddenly you find you are denied access to their feeds. It’s an instant start of mixed emotions and speculations — When did this happen? Did I do anything wrong? What are they attempting to hide from me? And that’s what half of Chinese parents have to deal with when they try to browse their children’s WeChat Moments, also known as “Friends’ Circle”, as suggested by a recent survey released by Tencent, the Chinese Internet giant. According to the report, entitled Annual White Paper on Family Affection on WeChat Moments, about 52 percent of WeChat users aged 18 to 29 block their parents on Moments, a major feature on the platform that allows users to share everything they like with their WeChat contacts. About 62 percent of the young interviewees said that parents “are neurotic about everything”, along with reasons such as fear of parents’ disapproval, rejection to parents’ nagging (唠叨), and seeking privacy. “My parents don’t know Moments very well, so I just told them I don’t use it anymore,” said Qin Jianping, a 28-year-old son. He added that his parents had been leaving comments requesting updates on his dating status on every post he made on Moments since he broke up with his girlfriend two years ago. Xie Yun, a 26- year-old daughter, said that while she didn’t block her parents entirely, they were in a specific group to which she only shares positive posts. “I don’t want my parents to see minor setbacks in my life,” she said, adding that once her parents saw a Moments picture of her hand getting slightly burned while cooking, and they traveled all the way to her city to make sure she was all right. The report also found that more than 49 percent of Chinese parents use WeChat as a main channel to communicate with their children. Roughly 36 percent of the parents who took the survey said they checked every post made by their children. When asked how they would react to being blocked, some parents said they would initiate a conversation with their children to find out the reason, while others said they wouldn’t care. And some parents just outsmart their kids in this hide-and-seek game online. “I didn’t realize I was blocked until I compared what I could see on my phone to what my son’s aunt could see,” said Chen, a mother of a 27-year-old son. “I chose to remain silent on this and now I’m following my son’s posts through his aunt.” 12. Parents would like to read their children’s WeChat Moments because they . A. are too emotional and speculative B. want to keep up with the trend of time C. leave a lot of comments on their feeds D. are concerned about their children’s lives 13. The children block their parents to . A. protect their privacy B. learn from parents’ nagging C. challenge parental authority D. maintain a positive state 14. What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph mean? A. Parents have a better understanding of their children. B. Parents are clever enough to win the “hide-and-seek game”. C. Parents exchange ideas with their kids on the hide-and-seek game. D. Parents learn more knowledge from their kids in the hide-and-seek game. 15. The author looks into parents’ being blocked to . A. criticize parents B. support students C. analyze a phenomenon D. solve a problem 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. 如“Once her parents saw a Moments picture of her hand getting slightly burned while cooking, and they traveled all the way to her city to make sure she was all right.(有一次她父母看到朋友圈里她做饭时手轻微烫伤的照片,就一路赶到她所在的城市确保她没事。)” 根据第三段“About 62 percent of the young interviewees said that parents ‘are neurotic about everything’, along with reasons such as fear of parents’ disapproval, rejection to parents’ nagging, and seeking privacy.(约 62% 的年轻受访者表示父母‘对一切都神经质’,还有诸如害怕父母不赞同、拒绝父母的唠叨以及寻求隐私等原因。)” 故选A项。 根据最后一段划线句后文“‘I didn’t realize I was blocked until I compared what I could see on my phone to what my son’s aunt could see,’ said Chen, a mother of a 27-year-old son. ‘I chose to remain silent on this and now I’m following my son’s posts through his aunt.’(一位 27 岁儿子的母亲陈女士说:‘直到我把我手机上能看到的内容和我儿子姑姑能看到的内容作比较,我才意识到我被屏蔽了。 As a baby, Jack’s remarkable swimming journey began. At ten months, he already practised with swim aids. At six, he won his first swimming competition in a group for kids ten-and-under. At seven, he stayed at the pool from nine in the morning till eight hours later. His mother, recognizing his gift, took it as her duty to guide him. _____16_____ By a young age, Jack had been ranked the number one swimmer of the country, a title he held for a record-breaking duration. _____17_____He played skiing, tennis, soccer, and many more. Sam was a kid who loved to play, and his parents had no particular athletic ambitions for him. It was nearing his teens that he began to focus more on basketball. _____18_____In his mid-thirties, an age by which many professional basketball players are typically retired, Sam was still in the national basketball team. Top athletes like Jack at the peak of their abilities do spend more time on focused, deliberate practice than their peers (同龄人). But scientists also find that potential champions typically devote less time to deliberate practice in childhood, but more to “sampling” various activities. _____19_____ In a world that demands people to specialize early, we face a challenge to keep the benefits of diverse experiences and delayed concentration. There’s a need for those with Jack’s early focus. _____20_____— People who start with many different things and accept various experiences. People with range. A. There was no time to waste. B. And it was all going according to plan. C. The growing complexity of the world also calls for more Sams. D. But it didn’t seem to hold back his development in the long run. E. In reality, the Sam’s path to success is far more common, yet less told. F. In contrast to Jack, Sam didn’t show significant sporting talent until later. G. Unlike the swimming talent, Sam’s early years were filled with a variety of sports. B 17. G 18. D 19. E 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“His mother, recognizing his gift, took it as her duty to guide him. (他的母亲认出了他的天赋,把引导他当作自己的责任。)”和下文“By a young age, Jack had been ranked the number one swimmer of the country, a title he held for a record-breaking duration. (在很小的时候,杰克就被列为全国第一游泳运动员,他保持了破纪录的冠军头衔。)”可知,本空要表达母亲认识到杰克的天赋后,如何指导他,以及杰克如何取得全国排名第一的游泳运动员称号。根据后文杰克取得的成绩,可以看出母亲的指导非常有效,一切都在按照计划进行。选项B“一切都按计划进行”符合语境。故选B。 【17题详解】 根据下文“He played skiing, tennis, soccer, and many more. (他滑雪、网球、足球等等。)”可知,此处在描述山姆小时候参与了多种体育活动,这与杰克专注于游泳形成了对比。选项G“与游泳天赋不同,山姆的早年充满了各种运动。”符合语境。故选G。 【18题详解】 根据上文“It was nearing his teens that he began to focus more on basketball. (在他十几岁的时候,他开始更加专注于篮球。)”和下文“In his mid-thirties, an age by which many professional basketball players are typically retired, Sam was still in the national basketball team. (在他三十多岁的时候,许多职业篮球运动员通常都会退役,山姆仍然在国家篮球队。)”可知,此处描述山姆在篮球方面的成就,尽管他少年时没有专注,临近青少年才专注篮球,但这并未阻碍他的长远发展。选项D“但从长远来看,这似乎并没有阻碍他的发展。”恰好说明这个转折和强调。故选D。 【19题详解】 根据上文“Top athletes like Jack at the peak of their abilities do spend more time on focused, deliberate practice than their peers (同龄人). But scientists also find that potential champions typically devote less time to deliberate practice in childhood, but more to “sampling” various activities. 【20题详解】 根据上文“In a world that demands people to specialize early, we face a challenge to keep the benefits of diverse experiences and delayed concentration. There’s a need for those with Jack’s early focus. Reggie couldn’t hear. Just using his ____29____ body language, he was the best to communicate with everyone. People paid more attention to what Reggie was saying, and were ____30____ by his intelligence. They realized all Reggie needed was a little more ____31____ to enable communication. That was the only ____32____. So on the Day of Silence, Reggie’s true ____33____ became known. And everyone realised you have to give people a chance to show how ____34____ they are. They also learn that you couldn’t hear the slightest thing until you truly ____35____. 21. She had helped her dad in his workshop and knew a lot about motors, but her friends didn’t know this. One day, she heard Alex and Jacob talking about their robot, Robbie. They were preparing for a big competition but Robbie wasn’t working properly. Susan was surprised by their courage, as they always seemed unpopular among the boys. She felt bad for them and wanted to help. On the school bus home, Susan sat behind Alex and Jacob, who were still trying to fix their robot. “This is impossible! The legs move before you press the switch and stop after you press the switch!” Alex said, looking at Robbie’s legs, which were not moving right. “The competition is only eight days away!” Jacob looked sad. He thought they were going to lose. “Umm, how did you connect the wires from the switch?” Susan asked quietly over their shoulders. Alex turned and gave her a cautious look. Susan smiled and asked, “Did you connect the NO wire or the NC wire to the motor?” The boys stared at her as if she had just landed from Mars. Susan gently took the robot and pointed out the wire connected to the motor. “Here’s the problem!” She explained that it was the NC wire. It means the circuit (电路) is Normally Closed. She then pulled a loose wire out of the robot and explained that it was the NO wire, which means Normally Open. “If you connect this wire instead, Robbie will walk when you press the switch.” Susan handed the robot back to Alex, who was staring at her with his mouth open. “Change the wires and see,” she said before getting off the bus. Ten minutes later, her phone rang. It was Jacob: “Your idea worked, and we're wondering if you could come over and help improve our Robbie.” Susan smiled. She knew she had made the right choice. Paragraph 1. On the street bulletin board B When my daughter Abigail got her learner’s permit a few months ago, I was appreciative of those drivers who saw a nervous teenager behind the wheel and treated her with patience as we drove around our neighborhood and the country roads close by. And then there are those of you who find a slow-moving vehicle (farm machinery down our way) in your lane and swing out into the opposite lane to pass, oblivious of vehicles coming in the opposite direction. C has learned to be careful of drivers who break the rules. D. has become an experienced driver in a few months. C A supersonic airline like Concorde, flies at twice the speed of sound. A. they eat dinner in the middle of the night B they suffer a lot from the changes in time C. they have to work at the weekend D. they live far away from the airport 10. According to the text, the number of passengers in a general airliner is the one in a huge rocket at a time. A. four times larger than B. a quarter as large as C. seventy-five percent of D. five times larger than 11. What can be learned according to the passage? A. people will spend less time on the ground as air travel is getting faster B. a supersonic plane can fly the Pacific in only eighteen minutes C. the rocket is the fastest and least difficult means of travel D. the speed of sound is only half that of a Concorde D Over Half of Young Chinese Block Parents on WeChat Moments We all know the feeling — you want to check what someone you care about has been up to on social media, and suddenly you find you are denied access to their feeds. A. are too emotional and speculative B want to keep up with the trend of time C. leave a lot of comments on their feeds D. are concerned about their children’s lives 13.
