Seeing photos of where I was going, she cried and asked why I was going to leave her behind. I tried to explain my work as a travel writer. But as my husband, Evan, pulled her off my leg so I could leave, I wondered if my solo trips would be worth the effort of going without her. A few days later, I returned home and Maia was happy to hear about my trip. She told me I could keep going on trips for work-but we’d compromise(妥协), she’d come with me. One year later, an invitation came to experience the Rocky Mountaineer on a parent-child journey, And as scary as it seemed to take a preschooler on a train, the trip sounded too good to pass up. Dressed in her most beautiful train-riding clothes, four-year-old Maia watched me take notes about the scenery as we chugged along the Fraser River in BC. Wanting to prove her worth as an assistant, she began interviewing the Australian couple sitting beside us. Unable to spell more than a few words, she drew their answers in crayon(蜡笔)。She ended up being such an easy travel companion and we found a special rhythm(节奏) on the road together. When she was six, we flew to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. I was impressed by how cheerfully fearless she was when we swam in cenotes(天然井). But it was on the flight home, when my little kid said it was okay that the airline didn’t seat us together, that I realized how much travel was shaping her. Research says that travel can expand a kid’s world, helping them become more adaptable while developing their creativity and imagination. Seeing those changes in Maia, I am really grateful for that compromise I made with her, 4. What can we learn about the author from the first two paragraphs? A. She enjoyed travelling alone. 根据第四段中“Wanting to prove her worth as an assistant, she began interviewing the Australian couple sitting beside us. Unable to spell more than a few words, she drew their answers in crayon(蜡笔)。She ended up being such an easy travel companion and we found a special rhythm(节奏) on the road together. 根据第五段中“I was impressed by how cheerfully fearless she was when we swam in cenotes(天然井). Kylie hasn’t been observed with other common dolphins in at least 14 years but she’s far from alone. On clear days in the Clyde, visitors to the marina can sometimes see Kylie swimming with porpoises, which are about two-thirds her size. New research suggests Kylie’s ties to porpoises are closer than scientists imagined. While a common dolphin’s vocal(发声的) ability should include a diverse range of clicks, whistles (口哨声),and etc. , Kylie doesn’t whistle. Instead, she “talks” more like porpoises, which communicate using high bursts of clicks. “The study suggests that she may be communicating with the porpoises, or at least attempting to. It’s part of a growing body of work that shows a rich world of interactions(互动) between different species of dolphins, Clearly, species in the wild interact much more than we thought,” says dolphin behaviour expert Denise Herzing. To learn more about Kylie’s relationship with the porpoises, scientists borrowed a device (装置) to record sounds of Kylie and porpoises when they met each other from 2016 to 2018. “She’s definitely identified as a porpoise,” says Nairn, who trained as a sea biologist in college. Researchers also studied thousands of dolphins clicks from the recordings carefully. While dolphins whistle very often, porpoises never do. Instead, they communicate with what are called narrow-band, high-frequency (NBHF) clicks. To hear an NBHF click you have to play it about one hundred times slower. Ever since February 2021, Kylie has been missing. Nairn says he can’t help but worry. Nairn and his workmates say they’re eager to look for and listen to Kylie as soon as the spring field season begins-and see what else she might teach us. 8. In what way are porpoises different from dolphins? A. Porpoises are bigger in size. B. Porpoises never whistle. C. Porpoises like living in groups. D. Porpoises live in fresh waters. 9. How does Kylie communicate with the porpoises? A. By touching. B. By whispering. C. By nodding her head. D. By giving out clicks. 10. What was the device used for? A. Taking clear pictures of Kylie underwater. B. Learning more about Kylie’s habitat. C. Studying the clicks made by Kylie and the porpoises. D. Examining how sea creatures interact each other. 11. What is a good way to hear an NBHF click? A. Playing it underwater. B. Playing it repeatedly. C. Playing it in a quiet place. D. Playing it a lot more slowly. B 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第四段中“While dolphins whistle very often, porpoises never do. (虽然海豚经常发出哨声,但鼠海豚从不这样做。)”可知,海豚经常吹口哨,而鼠海豚从不吹口哨,这是它们在发声方式上的不同,故选B项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Instead, she ‘’talks’ more like porpoises, which communicate using high bursts of clicks. (相反,她“说话”更像鼠海豚,鼠海豚使用高频率的咔哒声进行交流。)”可知,Kylie像鼠海豚一样通过发出一连串的咔哒声来交流,故选D项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“To learn more about Kylie’s relationship with the porpoises, scientists borrowed a device (装置) to record sounds of Kylie and porpoises when they met each other from 2016 to 2018. (为了更多地了解凯莉与鼠海豚的关系,科学家们借了一个装置,用于记录2016年至2018年凯莉和鼠海豚相遇时的声音。)”可知,该装置是用来记录Kylie和鼠海豚相遇时发出的声音,也就是研究它们发出的咔哒声,故选C项。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“To hear an NBHF click you have to play it about one hundred times slower. (要听到一个窄带高频咔哒声,你必须把它放慢大约一百倍来播放。)”可知,要听到窄带高频(NBHF)咔哒声,需要将其播放速度放慢约一百倍,故选D项。 D When making decisions, most people view cost as an important consideration. While price is undoubtedly important, what about some hidden costs that also come into play? For example, what are the long—term effects of your decision? Have you considered how your decision impacts your relationships? Simply put, hidden costs may be invisible to the naked eye, but they're very visible (可见的) to your wallet. Ignoring these factors can cost you a lot. Consider a scene where a manager cuts costs by asking some workers to leave. While this move reduces salary expenses, how will it impact the morale (士气) and loyalty of the remaining employees? Similarly, imagine somebody spending hours surfing the web, lost in searching for cheaper things. The question is whether the savings equal the spent time. If cost is your only consideration, you'll pay the price. Price Isn't the Only Cost! Furthermore, even if cost is the only factor in your decision—making, all of the “true costs” should be considered. For example, if you're thinking about buying new technology the equipment cost is only part of the price. People will need training, the software may need customization, and you'll probably lose productivity until people get up to speed. Those are real costs too. In addition, even when price is the main consideration, it's important to tell the difference between price and value. For example, when you're investing in a high—quality product from a famous organization, compare maintenance (保养) and repair costs with its competitors, assess the product life span, and hear what existing customers have to say. As the old saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” Always keep in mind that every time you say “yes” to one thing, you're certainly saying “no” to another. So, in decision—making, always consider invisible costs. This ensures you're aiming for the best solution rather than a good one. After all, choices are easy. The tough part is living with them. 12. What does the underlined phrase “come into play” in paragraph I mean? A. Come into sight. B. Play a part. C. Come into use. D. Play around. 13. What may be the hidden cost of firing workers? A. Reducing salary expenses. B. Cutting costs of the company. C. Doing wonders for the workers' morale. D. Discouraging the remaining workers. 14. How is the passage mainly developed? A. By giving examples. B. By listing figures. C. By using space order. D. By explaining concepts. 15. What can we learn from this passage? A. You get what you pay for. B. Price is the main consideration. C. Considering the best solution is easy. D. Be thoughtful when making decisions. B 13. D 14. A 15. 根据文章第一段“For example, what are the long—term effects of your decision? Have you considered how your decision impacts your relationships? Simply put, hidden costs may be invisible to the naked eye, but they're very visible  (可见的) to your wallet. Ignoring these factors can cost you a lot.”(在做决定时,大多数人把成本视为一个重要的考虑因素。 “come into play”意为“起作用”。 根据文章第二段“While this move reduces salary expenses, how will it impact the morale (士气) and loyalty of the remaining employees?”(虽然这个举动减少了工资支出,但它将如何影响剩下的员工的士气和忠诚度?) 根据文章第一段“For example, what are the long—term effects of your decision? Have you considered how your decision impacts your relationships? Simply put, hidden costs may be invisible to the naked eye, but they're very visible(可见的) to your wallet. Ignoring these factors can cost you a lot.”(在做决定时,大多数人把成本视为一个重要的考虑因素。 ,再根据第三段“For example, if you're thinking about buying new technology the equipment cost is only part of the price. People will need training, the software may need customization, and you'll probably lose productivity until people get up to speed. Those are real costs too. ”(例如,如果你正在考虑购买新技术,设备成本只是价格的一部分。人们将需要培训,软件可能需要定制,在人们跟上速度之前,您可能会失去生产力。这些也是实际成本。)可知,文章通过举例的方式,说明了在做决策时,除了考虑显而易见的成本外,还应考虑一些隐藏的成本,这些隐藏的成本可能对决策的长期效果产生重大影响。故选A。 根据文章最后一段“Always keep in mind that every time you say “yes” to one thing, you're certainly saying “no” to another. So, in decision—making, always consider invisible costs. This ensures you're aiming for the best solution rather than a good one. After all, choices are easy. The tough part is living with them.”(始终记住,每次你对一件事说“是”,你肯定对另一件事说“否”。 How to Cheer up Your Friend The following tips will make your friend cheer up. 【16题详解】 空格处是本段主题句,根据空后的“If your friend is angry about a situation at work, help her see the positive side of things. Hear out her problem before reacting (回应). But try to help her asking questions such as, “What things can you do to make the situation better?” or “What’s been happening at work lately that’s been good?”(如果你的朋友对工作中的某件事很生气,帮助她看到事情积极的一面。在做出反应之前先听听她的问题。但试着帮助她问一些问题,比如,“你能做些什么来改善情况?”或者“最近工作上发生了什么好事?”)”可知,本段主要说明的是帮助朋友看到事情积极的一面,B选项“Help her to see the positive side(帮助她看到积极的一面)”概括了本段主要内容,可作为主题句。故选B。 【17题详解】 根据第三段的主题句“Send her a card or postcard.(给她寄张卡片或明信片。)”与空前一句“Drop a note in the mail to her.(给她寄封信。)” 【18题详解】 根据该空后的“as they can help her build confidence and self-esteem(因为它们可以帮助她建立自信和自尊)”判断,空格处要说到一些帮助她建立自信和自尊的事情,E项“Don’t be afraid to tell your friend these things(不要害怕告诉你的朋友这些事)”提到要告诉朋友一些事情,其中的“these things”指代前面提到的有关“they are smart, strong, and beautiful”的事情,而告诉朋友这些事情能帮助她建立自信和自尊,与下文构成因果关系。 Try out new things together.(一起尝试新事物)和空后的“If you want your friends to be happy, encourage them to try new things with you.(如果你想让你的朋友开心,鼓励他们和你一起尝试新事物。)” 【20题详解】 根据空前的主题句“Bring her one of her favorite treats.(给她带一个她最喜欢的食物。)”与空后一句“Maybe she can’t live without an afternoon coffee, or maybe she has a special love for black forest cake.(也许她离不开下午的咖啡,也许她对黑森林蛋糕情有独钟。)” Since my parents were very busy at that time, my Aunt Julia often took care of me during their absence. One rainy day, when Julia and I were heading toward home, I caught sight of an old lady wearing an orange jacket with a huge bag and a walking stick. Out of curiosity, I asked Julia, “Who is she? What is she doing with that huge bag?” Julia caught a glimpse at her, then told me, “She is called Melinda. She has been collecting garbage with that huge garbage bag in the town for several years. Nobody knows why she’s been doing it. Maybe just for fun.” Hearing her words, I couldn’t help exclaiming, “Wow! It’s so strange! Why does she find it funny to collect garbage?” Since that day, I had come across her for many times on my way home. She always carried the huge garbage bag whether it was rainy or sunny. Gradually, I didn’t find her strange for collecting garbage. Instead, I began to greet her with a smile. Two years later, I was admitted to Chicago University. To my disappointment, I often saw trash on the lawn on campus. “Why should people litter everywhere? Who is responsible for the trash?” A few days later, it occurred to me that, since nobody took responsibility for it, why not collect trash myself? That way, I could walk past the lawn without feeling guilty. Then, I took action. I always took a trash bag and collect trash on the lawn every time I walked past it. A few students also followed suit soon afterwards, keeping the school cleaner and prettier than before. One day, an idea popped into my head when I finished collecting trash — maybe we could help make the city cleaner and prettier too! Despite the thought that collecting trash in front of so many people outside school was awkward, I knew it was the right thing to do. So I decided to give it a go. Paragraph 1: One day, I was collecting garbage outside the school. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Then I realized that I should encourage more students to take part. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 One day, I was collecting garbage outside the school. Some people gave me a strange look, as if l were mad. All of a sudden, I thought of the old woman who used to collect garbage many years ago. It occurred to me that I was acting just like her. As strange as that may seem, collecting garbage was meaningful for me. Little by little, a lot of people, came to realize that I was doing voluntary service to keep the town clean, and I was complimented and thanked. Then I realized that I should encourage more students to take part. Surprisingly, they agreed and we founded a voluntary group. We gave each student a bright orange jacket with the message “Let’s Keep Our Town Cleaner!” We spent the time not just collecting trash, but also sorting it out and recycling it. The most wonderful thing was that all the people who were close to us were also doing their part! I said to myself, “This is what the old woman did for me. She has changed my life greatly.“” 【解析】 【导语】本文以人物为线索展开,文章讲述了作者在年轻时受老妇人的影响开始收集垃圾,后来在大学时继续这种行为,并得到其他同学的支持,最终建立了一个志愿者团体,致力于保持城镇的清洁,并鼓励更多人参与。 词汇激活 行为类 ①想到:thought of sth/sth came into one’s mind ②成立,建立:founded/set up ③感谢:thanked/appreciated 情绪类 ①令人惊讶的是:Surprisingly/Amazingly/ To one's surprise ②美妙的:wonderful/fantastic 【点睛】【高分句型1】All of a sudden, I thought of the old woman who used to collect garbage many years ago.(运用了关系代词who引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】Little by little, a lot of people, came to realize that I was doing voluntary service to keep the town clean, and I was complimented and thanked. B. The Approaches to Making Travel Comfortable D. The Reflection on Working as a Travel Writer C On Scotland’s west coast is the Firth of Clyde, a large home to thousands of porpoises(海豚) and one dolphin named Kylie. D When making decisions, most people view cost as an important consideration. 12. Since my parents were very busy at that time, my Aunt Julia often took care of me during their absence. 注意:1. 续写词数共150左右; 2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 3. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: One day, I was collecting garbage outside the school. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Then I realized that I should encourage more students to take part. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
