B A self-described “girly girl”, nine-year-old Zandra Cunningham was constantly begging her parents for the latest beauty products. One day her dad simply told her “no”, which inspired her to make her own. Zandra has been recognized by Entrepreneur magazine as one of the youngest millionaires in America. When asked about her experience as a child entrepreneur (企业家), Zandra says, “It wasn’t frightening. When you’re young, you don’t have that fear mentality. ‘Maybe it’s not going to work’ never really crossed my mind.” For Zandra, it became a challenge to separate her personal interests from what her customers actually wanted. “There were a lot of things that I felt were a good idea, but it wouldn’t fit into the market,” she says. Being part of the market herself, Zandra felt she had a unique perspective that allowed her to truly listen and respond to her customers. It started as a hobby for Zandra and her mom. They’d play around with different ingredients until they found formulas they liked “through a lot of trial and error”. Slowly, they started transforming the pastime into a brand. Zandra began selling her products at local markets, and a few years later — when Zandra was 12 years old — the family started a shop for Zandra Beauty. At the time, Zandra Beauty was one of the first brands to offer plant-based and organic beauty products at an affordable price. The 21-year-old has essentially grown up alongside her brand — but her goals have remained the same: “Our main focus is to push out amazing products that are safe for everyone and the earth.” “There’re so many brands doing similar things, but there’s still so much room to grow,” Zandra says. “Your customers are out there, and you just have to find something that’s going to set you apart.” 24 Why was Zandra not scared when she started her business according to herself? A. She was always very daring. B. Her parents supported her greatly. C. Her young mind made her fearless. D. She had much previous experience. 25. Which of the following is the most important in Zandra’s opinion? A. The need of customers. B. Changing the market. C. The quality of an idea. D. Sharing her personal interests. 26 What kind of product does Zandra mainly pursue? A. The one that is cheap and useful. B. The one that is enjoyed by her mom. C. The one that is created by trial and error. D. The one that is reliable and eco-friendly. 27. What is Zandra’s attitude towards the future of her brand? A. Concerned. B. Hopeful. C. Doubtful. D. Relieved. C Casio, perhaps known for watches, is expanding its product line to include “Moflin”, an adorable AI-powered robotic pet. According to the company’s October 10 announcement, this fur ball “becomes attached to its owner.” While currently only accepting pre-orders in Japan ahead of a November 7 release, the device is based on the concept of “Always by your side in your heart.” A promotional video showcases an owner turning to her Moflin in times of stress or relaxation, cuddling with it. Available in either gold or silver fur, the palm-sized companion sort of resembles a rabbit without ears. It doesn’t seem to be able to really walk, and instead wriggles in place depending on the interaction. Still, its movements are less robotic than those of mechanical pets from the past. The earliest hints at Mollin Moment first arrived in 2021 through a Kickstarter from the company Vanguard Industries. Since then, it appears the endeavor caught Casio’s eye, who is now hyping the 59, 400 yen (roughly$400)device. Each Moflin also includes an official “MofLife” dedicated app, as well as an additional paid subscription service offering discounted “hospitalization” and “fur care” fees. But the overall costs are likely far less than owning a living pet which demands frequent feeding, cleaning, walking and playing. The artificial animal’s internal programming allows it to “build a deeper bond” with an owner through voice and gesture-based recognition software. It takes a couple of months for Moflin to develop a simulacrum of affection and emotion. Talking or smiling earns positive responses, while ignoring or frightening Moflin triggers negative emotions. Right out of the box, Moflin’s movements and voice are still childish. By day 25, however, Casio promises that “you will start to become attached to the animal.” Around day 50 is when owners can expect their fully matured Moflin to offer unique noises and wriggling movements from a range of 4 million different combinations. But as TechRadar noted, there is a distinct drawback with this product — namely that Moflin’s 5-hour battery life doesn’t really hold up to, say, a cat’s battery reserves. Recharging takes around 3.5 hours in a bed-like cradle. Will Mollin become the Furby of the Future? Only time will tell. It’s certainly less creepy than its 90’s ancestor. 28. What can we infer about Moflin? A. It can walk and play like a real pet. B. It looks like a gold or silver fur ball. C. It was initially put forward by Casio. D. Its movements are still quite robotic. 29. Why does Moflin cost comparatively less than a real pet? A. It includes a discounted subscription. B. It requires less maintenance and care. C. It requires no hospital visits or fur care. D. It just takes several months to grow up. 30. What does the underlined word “simulacrum” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Instant feedback. B. Natural response. C. Random act. D. Artificial imitation. 31. What is the biggest problem of owning Moflin? A. Inability to recognize different owners. B. Negative emotions towards its owner. C. Short battery life and long recharging time. D. Complex programming for communications. D Working with ARIA Research, a startup developing vision for the blind, Phoebe Peng is using technologically advanced human echolocation (回声定位) that enables blind users to perceive their surroundings in precise detail. The process uses event cameras which, unlike normal cameras that take complete images of a scene, track changes in an image over time, making them ideal for the observation of small objects like table tennis balls. The images are then processed into sound using a specialised algorithm (算法). This is then communicated back to the player via a lot of loudspeakers, ultimately with the aim of allowing players to track the ball and movements using sounds. According to Peng, table tennis makes a perfect test case for the kind of technology being developed by ARIA Research. “Table tennis has been played for decades as a more accessible version of tennis. The sport is beginner-friendly while maintaining a rich level of competitive play. However, like many sports, it remains difficult for people who suffer vision loss or have low vision,” said Ms Peng, who will soon complete a Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering. “The small size of the ball and table, along with the movement of the ball in 3D space, are things that make table tennis difficult to play for those with low vision and complete blindness,” said Peng, who is completing the work for her degree. “Making this sport more accessible while also exploring the potential of event cameras were my two biggest motivators,” she said. In one study, using two perfectly positioned cameras, Ms Peng was able to identify and track a ball in three dimensions in real time. She then fed that data into an algorithm controlling the loudspeakers standing along the sides of the table, which created a sound field matching the position of the ball. While the results are promising, more experimentation will be needed before the system will be ready for actual play. “There are limitations on how accurately people can perceive sound localisation. What type of sound should be used? Should the sound be continuous? This is what we’ll be tackling in the next stage of development,” said Ms Peng. 32. How are event cameras different from normal ones? A. They can have sounds located. B. They are linked with loudspeakers. C. They constantly follow image changes. D. They take complete images of a scene. 33. What makes table tennis a perfect test case for the research? A. Its unique feature. B. Its fierce competition. C. Its technical complexity. D. Its beginner-friendliness. 34. What is the last paragraph mainly about concerning the study? A. Its inspiring results. B. Its promising future. C. Its practical applications. D. Its technological challenge. 35. What could be the best title for the text? A. Technology Opens up Blind Table Tennis B. Blind People Work Wonders in Table Tennis C. Event Camera Reshapes Future for the Disabled D. Algorithm Helps Translate Imagination to Sound 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Do Things You Don’t Like We all have to get through things we don’t like in life, be it small or big, perhaps having to go through a tough set of exams, a driving test or a holiday with someone you really don’t like. No answer. There’s no way she forgot I was moving in today, right? I thought. “Anita? It’s me, Norah! ” I called again. I had only met my cousin once a couple of years ago when Anita and Aunt Sonam had flown to California to visit. Mom had hoped Anita and I would be friends. But all Anita wanted to talk about was soccer, which was practically a foreign language to me. Secretly, I had felt relieved when the visit was over. Now, I was standing in my aunt’s tiny apartment in New York City, and there was still no answer from Anita. I knocked again, a little louder this time. Finally, Anita opened the door. She apologized, saying she had been listening to music. But instead of inviting me in, Anita frowned at my massive suitcase. Behind her, I could see a blue beanbag chair crowded next to a bunk bed (上下铺). In my old room in California, I’d had a double bed all to myself, and my original artwork had covered all the walls. Anita’s walls, on the other hand, were covered with posters of the U. S. women’s soccer team. I didn’t see any free space to hang anything else. “C-can I come in?” I asked, blushing. Anita nodded, but she barely moved. I had no choice but to squeeze by her into the room. I put my stuff against the wall and Anita started bouncing the soccer ball from her foot to her knee and back again. Suddenly, her foot kicked the ball at an odd angle, and it accidentally flew toward me. “Whoops! ” Anita called. “Think fast!” But I was still taking in the surroundings, so the ball caught me off guard and bounced off my shoulder. Forcing a smile, I pretended it didn’t bother me. Unsure of what to do, I took out my sketchbook (素描本) and colored pencils and sat down. Just holding my sketchbook made me feel more at ease. I started sketching aimlessly while Anita went back to bounce her ball. Suddenly, it dawned on me that I could draw Anita in action. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Anita studied the drawing carefully. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 智学大联考·皖中名校联盟 合肥八中2024-2025学年第一学期高二年级期末检测 英语试题卷 注意事项: 1. 6. I am writing to tell you something about the class meeting concerning mental health we had last week. To raise our awareness of mental health, a class meeting was held in our classroom at 4:00 pm last Tuesday. First, an expert in this field gave us a lecture on the knowledge of mental health. After that, we were asked to share our sources of stress and ways to relieve it, from which all of us learned a lot. I think it is both interesting and instructive to hold a class meeting like this. Have you had similar class meetings in your school? I'm curious about it. Looking forward to your reply. Yours, Li Hua 第二节:读后续写 (满分25分) 【67题答案】 【答案】范文 Suddenly, it dawned on me that I could draw Anita in action. Quickly turning to a blank page, I broadly outlined the shape of my cousin bouncing the soccer ball. My spirits rose with each new line I drew. It was true that I didn’t enjoy playing sports, but I was really enjoying the challenge of trying to sketch my cousin in action! Although it was my first attempt at something like this, I was pleased with the way I’d captured the energy of Anita’s movements. As I was examining my drawing, I didn’t notice the soccer ball was no longer bouncing. I glanced up to see Anita curiously eyeing my drawing. Nervously, I handed the sketchbook to her. Anita studied the drawing carefully. I resisted the urge to grab the sketchbook and hide. She must think it was totally weird. However, Anita said it was awesome and asked if she could have it. Before I could respond, she had already ripped the drawing out of the sketchbook. Then Anita rummaged through a drawer for a tape, saying that she wasn’t really into art, but thought the drawing should definitely be on display in “our room”. After taping the drawing over one of her posters, Anita said a few changes needed to be made around the room if I was moving in. With a broad smile, I picked up Anita’s soccer ball and tossed it toward my new roommate. “Think fast! ” 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
