How can you combine (结合) games with English learning? The answer is Wordle! Wordle players must correctly guess a five-letter word with just six tries. You either win by guessing it or lose because you run out of tries.
Invented by software engineer Josh Wordle, the app has been welcomed by millions of players across the world. Every midnight, Wordle refreshes its word of the day. For example, the answer for November 3 is ALOUD.
As you guess, the game gives you hints (提示). For example, if the letter is correct and in the right place, it turns green. If the letter is not in the word, it turns gray. If the letter is part of the word but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. These hints turn the game into a puzzle.
You need knowledge to win this game, not just luck. Every syllable (音节) in an English word includes at least one vowel (元音), so finding vowels is a useful method. For example, in the word “think”, there is only one syllable and there is one vowel “i”.
Several days ago, I played this game and found it was very interesting. First, I guessed the word “table”. Only “a” was green. Then, I guessed “maker” and the “r” turned yellow. In the end, I guessed “carry” and I was correct!
Wordle is not only an interesting game, but also an excellent tool to increase your English vocabulary. Why not have a try?
31.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By listing some numbers.
B.By making a survey.
C.By telling a story.
D.By asking a question.
32.Match the color hints with the situations and choose the right answer.
①The letter is not in the word.

a. Green b. Gray c. Yellow
A.①-a; ②-b; ③-c
B.①-b; ②-a; ③-c
C.①-c; ②-a; ③-b

33.What does the underlined word “puzzle” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Answer.

34.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Users can win Wordle if they don’t know English.
B.Every syllable in an English word includes only one vowel.
C.There is only one correct word in Wordle every day.
D.Wordle players must correctly guess a five-letter word with just five tries.

Dr Livesey was not at home, he was dining with Squire Trelawney, so we rode on to the hall, where the squire lived. The two men were sitting in a great library next to a bright fire.
The officer told the story. The two men listened with surprise and interest. The officer then left. I gave the papers to the doctor and they asked me to stay and eat something after my adventures.
“Have you heard of Flint?” Dr Livesey asked the square.
“Yes, I have!” the square replied. “He was one of the most dangerous pirates that ever sailed the seas. He only cared about money and everyone was afraid of him. No-one knows where he buried his treasure.”
“Maybe these papers give a clue,” said the doctor. And we opened the captain’s papers. Inside there was a detailed map. It showed an island, about nine miles long and five across. It had two good natural harbours and a hill in the centre, marked Spy-glass Hill. There were three crosses in red, two in the northern part and one in the south-west. Beside the last cross were the words: Most of treasure here.
On the back of the map was this information:
The treasure is by a tall tree. Spy-glass Hill is behind you to the north, Skeleton Island is below you to the south-east. The silver is in the north-east and the guns are in the north-west.
John Flint
Both the squire and Dr Livesey were very excited.
“Livesey,” said the squire, “we must stop work immediately. Tomorrow I’ll go to Bristol. In ten days we’ll have the best ship and crew in England. Hawkins will come as the cabin-boy. You, Livesey, will be the ship’s doctor. I can be the captain. We will have a good journey, and easily find the treasure. Then we’ll have enough money to live happily ever after.”
“Of course I’ll come with you,” said the doctor. “But we must be careful. The men who attacked the inn know about this map. They are dangerous and they also want the treasure. None of us must say a word to anyone about what we’ve found.”

Napping (打盹) at noon is popular. A nap at midday keeps people more energetic in the afternoon, so whether it’s summer or winter, most workers take a nap break.
A study recently says that compared with Europeans and North Americans, Chinese people take much more time in napping. In companies abroad, workers don’t have much napping time. Some Western companies start work later, sometimes at 10 o’clock, so people are able to wake up naturally in the morning. In such a case, a noon nap is certainly not necessary.
Researchers believe napping may be also caused by different eating habits. Food in European countries and America is mostly more meat and eggs than vegetables, while Chinese food comes mainly from farming. People in the north eat wheaten food (面食) and those in the south eat rice, which has a lot of glucose (葡萄糖). Normally we Chinese get on a full stomach after lunch, so the glucose-rich Chinese diet raises the level of blood glucose (血糖). It leads to sleepiness.
These ideas sound reasonable. However, they do not work on me. Even on days of eating a Western diet, instead of wheaten food or rice, I must take a nap at a quiet place.
According to an American sleep researcher, noon-time napping is a kind of self-protection, that helps to keep people energetic in the afternoon. That is to say, Western people need to take a noon nap, too. Taking a nap for less than 30 minutes is always a healthy habit for all people.
Now a napper is found everywhere: Customers napping on a sofa, on a chair, or on a seat in the train station. I fully understand them. But maybe your napping places make a difference. Those who nap in public places discomfit passers-by, which is not socially accepted. But a person who naps in a private space is regarded as a polite napper.
41.Why does the writer offer a “case” in Paragraph 2?
A.To show Western people are lazier. B.To compare differences between companies.
C.To make the text more interesting. D.To give a reason for the result of the study.
42.What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us?
A.Napping may be influenced by eating habits. B.Western people eat more meat and eggs.
C.High level of blood glucose leads to sleepiness. D.Chinese food comes mainly from farming.
43.What does the American sleep researcher say about noon-time napping?
A.It makes people feel sleepier sometimes. B.It’s a kind of self-protection that everyone needs.
C.It lowers people’s levels of blood glucose. D.It’s better to have a nap at least 30 minutes.
44.Which word is close to the underlined word “discomfit”?
A.Embarrass. B.Scare. C.Avoid. D.Interest.
45.Which can be a proper title for the text?
A.Popular Napping Ways B.Taking a Noon-time Nap
C.Why Chinese People Nap D.Being a Polite Napper
