Jane Goodall is a British primatologist known for her pioneering work with chimpanzees (黑猩猩). Born in 1934, she developed a passion for animals early in life, which led her to study chimpanzees. Initially as a stranger in the field of chimpanzees, Goodall’s breakthrough came when she befriended David Greybeard, an adult chimpanzee. She found David picked a small leafy branch, removed the leaves from the branch, used the stick to get ants out of their tunneled home, which challenged the belief that only humans could use tools.
Goodall’s discovery was recognized by Leakey, one of the world’s leading anthropologists at the time, who found in Goodall a passion for knowledge, a love for animals and huge patience— the things that are still with her today. Most importantly, he wanted a person with a mind that was not controlled by existing theories. Although Goodall didn’t attend university, she met this requirement. Goodall’s observations were revolutionary, leading Leakey to suggest redefining what it means to be human.
Despite facing doubts, especially as a young woman in a male-dominated field, she became an outstanding figure in wildlife conservation. In 1977, she founded the Jane Goodall Institute, which supported research and community-centered conservation programs, enabling young people to take part in environmental protection.
Throughout her career, Goodall has supported animal welfare and environmental conservation, raising people’s awareness of protection wildlife. She has also focused on establishing programs to support young African girls’ education and health. Goodall’ s work has had a lasting impact on both science and protection, inspiring generations to appreciate and protect the natural world. Even at 90, she continues to travel broadly, sharing her message of hope and the importance of living in harmony with nature. Her devotions make her a role model for many people.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently given Egypt a certificate (证书) saying that the country’s getting rid of malaria (疟疾) now. This is a great achievement, especially when you compare it to Nigeria, where malaria is still a big health problem.
Why did Egypt succeed in beating malaria while Nigeria is still fighting it? The reasons aren’t hard to find. Egypt’s victory over malaria can be due to several key factors. They kept putting in a lot of money preventing the disease, had a strong and well-rounded health system, got the community involved, and worked closely with neighboring countries. Because of these efforts, everyone in Egypt could get malaria diagnosed and treated for free. This shows that with the right approach, malaria can be defeated.
Meanwhile, Nigeria faces significant challenges in fighting against malaria. Despite the severity of the malaria epidemic, people there still couldn’t be aware how important it is to take prevention measures, and how urgent the situation is. Plus, a lack of government support, has further hindered progress in winning the battle against the disease. The health system in Nigeria has no clear plan to stop malaria for the long term. Worse still, millions of insecticide-treated nets available in Nigeria are poorly managed, and they do not effectively reach the intended effects.
To solve this critical situation, Nigeria must learn from Egypt’s success in completely getting rid of malaria and take immediate and decisive action. The government and its health system need to come up with detailed and well-rounded plans to make sure people can get help easily, and get treated as early as possible. Additionally, educating the people on malaria prevention and treatment is crucial to reducing the spread of the disease. And, of course, neighboring countries are strongly advised to donate more qualified insecticide-treated net to prevent the spread of the disease. With the government’s help, and working together with neighboring counties, Nigeria can stop malaria and make its people healthier.
8. Why is Egypt awarded a certificate?
A. Being free from malaria.
B. Offering help to Nigeria.
C. Building healthcare centers.
D. Achieving economic breakthroughs.
9. What should the success of Egypt be attributed to?
A. Traditional medicine.
B. Insecticide-treated nets.
C. Community involvement.
D. Social distance measures’
10. What can replace the underlined word “hindered” in Paragraph 3?
A. Made. B. Delayed.
C. Tracked. D. Improved.
11. What is the main topic of the passage?
A. The value of insecticide-treated nets in malaria prevention.
B. The gap between Egypt and Nigeria’s healthcare systems.
C. The role of the World Health Organization in global health.
D. Egypt’s success in removing malaria and Nigeria’s challenges.
【答案】8. A 9. C 10. B 11. D

As technology continues to affect every aspect of our lives, it’s no surprise that artificial intelligence (AI) is making its way into our gardens. For busy modern gardeners, AI offers a way to manage a thriving (茂盛) garden with minimal effort, ensuring that plants receive exactly what they need, when they need it.
One of the most exciting aspects of AI in gardening is its ability to personalize care for each plant. By analyzing data from various sensors placed in the garden, AI systems can determine the specific needs of each plant, such as light, water, and nutrients. The exactness not only leads to healthier plants but also makes better use of resources.
AI is also helping gardeners with plant selection. Based on your location, garden conditions, and personal preferences, AI-driven apps can suggest plants that are most likely to succeed in your garden. A good example is the Plant app, which not only determines plant issues but also suggests the best plants to grow in specific environmental conditions, helping gardeners make informed decisions on plant selection.
As AI continues to advance, we can expect even more innovative applications in gardening. Future AI systems could cover real-time data from satellite imagery and advanced climate models to predict and prepare for extreme weather events, helping gardeners protect their plants from unforeseen threats. Additionally, AI could assist in breeding new plant varieties that are better suited to changing climates.
While AI offers numerous benefits to home gardeners, it’s important to approach this technology with caution. One concern is the over-reliance on AI systems, which could lead to a reduced understanding of natural gardening practices. Additionally, privacy issues may arise, as many AI-powered devices and apps collect data about your garden, which could be shared or sold without your permission. So it is crucial for gardeners to maintain a balance between embracing these innovations and preserving traditional knowledge.
12 What is the AI system’s personalized care to each plant based on?
A. Apps installed on phones.
B. Data collected from sensors.
C. Experiences offered by gardeners.
D. Diseases diagnosed by plant doctors.
13. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The future of AI in gardening.
B. The cause of AI in gardening.
C. The drawbacks of AI in gardening.
D. The guidelines of AI in gardening.

A. Slightly confused.
B. Highly strict.
C. Cautiously optimistic.
D. Completely uncaring.
15. What will the writer probably talk about next?
A. How gardeners install sensors.
B. How to improve gardening apps.
C. How to apply AI in gardening properly.
D. How gardeners adjust to climate changes.

Mr. Bell was reading a newspaper in the cozy living room. John, a lively young boy, called out to his dad in an eager voice, as he wanted his dad to come outside with him. “Dad, get your jacket!” John said excitedly. But Mr. Bell, who was about in his mid-40s, just looked up from his newspaper and asked. “Why?” without moving from his chair.
John tried harder to get his dad’s attention, hoping they could have some fun together. He knew they could make great memories outside. But Mr. Bell didn’t seem interested in his son’s excitement. He responded slowly and didn’t seem to care much.
Feeling sad and helpless, John thought to himself, “If Dad comes in half an hour, it will be amazing.” He couldn’t understand why his dad wasn’t more into the idea. Didn’t he know how much John wanted to spend time with him?
Upset, John went to his mom, who was cooking dinner in the kitchen. She was always comforting, and John knew he could talk to her. “Mom, I don’t know what to do with Dad,” he said, frustrated. “He doesn’t respect me. I’ve never seen a dad like him. He knows I’m excited, but he’s so slow.”
His mom stopped cooking for a moment and thought about what John said. Then, with a kind smile, she said, “Have you tried being nice and patient with Dad? Sometimes when people are treated roughly or bossily, they get stubborn. Maybe if you talk to him nicely, he’ll listen.”
John stood there, taking in his mom’s words and realized he had been impatient with his dad. He decided to change how he talked to his dad, especially when he wanted something. He knew it wouldn’t be easy, but he was ready to have a try.

When Mr. Bell opened the door, John looked him in the eye and said, “Dad, I’m sorry for being impatient before. I really want to spend some time with you. Can we go outside together?” Mr. Bell seemed surprised by John’s change in attitude. He hesitated for a moment, then smiled and nodded. “Sure, son. Let me just put on my jacket, and we’ll go for a walk.” John’s heart lifted. He knew that with patience and kindness, he could make a difference in his relationship with his Dad. As they walked out the door, John felt a sense of hope and excitement for the time they would share together.

A. Made. B. Delayed.
C Tracked. D. Improved.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为100个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
Then John walked towards his father’s room.
