Beijing (AP) Three Chinese astronauts returned to Earth on Saturday after six months aboard their country’s newest orbital station in the longest crewed mission to date for China’s ambitious space program.
The Shenzhou 13 space capsule landed in the Gobi desert in the norther region of Inner Mongolia, shown live on CCTV. During the mission, astronaut Wang Yaping carried out the first spacewalk by a Chinese woman. Wang and crew mates Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu beamed (发送) back physics lessons for high school students. China launched its first astronaut into space in 2003 and landed robot rovers on the moon in 2013 and on Mars last year. Officials have discussed a possible crewed mission to the moon.
On Saturday, CCTV showed images from inside the capsule as it traveled at 200 meters per second over Africa before entering the atmosphere. The trio (三人组) were the second crew aboard Tiangong, or Heavenly Palace. Its core module, Tianhe, was launched in April 2021. Plans call for completing construction this year by adding two more modules. Authorities have yet to announce a date for launching the next Tiangng crew.
China Was the hid nation to launch an astronaut into space on its own after the former Soviet Union and the United States. Tiangong is China’s third space station following predecessors (前身) launched in 2011 and 2016. The government announced in 2020 that China's first reusable spacecraft had landed following a test flight.
On Tuesday, President Xi visited the launch site in Wenchang on the southern island of Hainan from which the Tianhe module was fired into orbit. “Persist in pursuing the frontiers of world aerospace development and the major strategic needs of national aerospace,” President Xi told staff at the site, all of them in military uniform.

China’s second female astronaut to enter space delivered a lecture to more than 60 million students across the country on Thursday, while aboard the Tiangong-1 space module (舱) 340 kilometers above the Earth’s surface, in the first attempt at this kind of lecture by a Chinese astronaut.
Wang Yaping, one of the three crew members in the Shenzhou-X class spacecraft, delivered the lecture through a 40-minute live video broadcast, nine days after the successful spacecraft launch.
Assisted by the other two astronauts Nie Haisheng and Zhang Xiaoguang, Wang showed students how movement occurs in a zero-gravity environment through a series of physics experiments to help students understand basic physics concepts. Observers say the creative lecture is not only good for science and patriotic W1 education of the younger generation but also shows national confidence in China’s maturing (成熟) W2 space technologies.
Via the video feed system, the three astronauts interacted with some 300 curious students in Beijing on Thursday after the lecture, who raised questions about their daily life in the space module.
“I’m extremely excited to see the magical effects of the experiments. I feel like I’m close to space while watching the live broadcast,” a primary school student in Beijing told the Global Times after the lecture. The lecture became one of the most popular topics on Weibo Thursday, with some Web users saying this visually W3 impressive method of education has made them interested in space science.
The lecture also drew international attention. After the lecture, Wang replied to a letter of greeting from Barbara Morgan, a female US astronaut who participated in a space teaching program in 2007. “We would like to join the effort, as you have done, to bring science-loving youth around the world closer to their dreams of exploring the universe,” Wang said in the reply, Xinhua reported.

Breathing dirty air can cost someone’s lifespan (寿命) months—even years, a new study finds. Worldwide, air pollution lowers average lifespans by a year. Scientists shared their new findings in Environmental Science & Technology Letters.
Air pollution (污染) has been linked to many health problems. Most earlier studies have looked at how tiny air pollutants affected rates of illness or death. But now an environmental scientist, Joshua Apte, is going even further. He works at the University of Texas, Austin. He together with his team is looking at life expectancy, hoping to make the threat easier to understand.
PM 2.5 is what scientists call tiny particles of pollution in the air. Higher levels of PM2.5 can cause health problems and cut months if not years, from the average lifespan. This analysis shows pollution affects life expectancy in different parts of the world.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends limiting PM 2.5 to 10 micrograms (微克) per cubic (立方) meter of air. Apte’s group used data to try to find how this low level would help people. But meeting the WHO standard won’t get rid of health damage from dirty air. That’s because even below 10 micrograms per cubic meter pollution still causes huge risks.
Reducing air pollution could increase life expectancy The scientists also compared how other threats shorten life spans across the globe. These risk factors included smoking and cancer.
These results show that in poor countries, cleaning up dirty air could greatly increase lifespans. It could have as big an effect as cleaning up drinking water, or curing lung cancer. However, in wealthier countries air pollution shortens life expectancy by less than half a year. All forms of cancer, in fact, shorten the average life expectancy by more than 3.5 years. “Knowing this can really help people or policymakers, decide where to spend their money.” says Kirk Smith.
32. Why is Joshua Apte’s team carrying out the study?
A. Know how small air pollutants are.
B. Study many different healthy problems.
C. Study the life expectancy of different people.
D. Let people understand air pollution better.
33. What will happen if one country limits PM 2.5 to 10 micrograms per cube meter?
A. Its air is very clean.
B. It will get a prize from WHO.
C. It still has pollution risks.
D. Its people will live a healthy life.
34. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. The study will help different countries or people take different policies.
B. Lung cancer is the leading killer in all kinds of cancers.
C. Reducing air pollution can increase all people’s lifespans much.
D. It’s very hard to clean up dirty air in a short time.
35. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Many Factors are Affecting People’s Health
B. Air Pollution is Shortening Lives Worldwide
C. Governments are Trying to Make Lifespan Long
D The Effect of Cancer is Worse than Dirty Air

Walk whenever you can

Higher levels of PM2.5 can cause health problems and cut months, if not years, from the average lifespan.
Reducing air pollution could increase life expectancy. The scientists also compared how other threats shorten life spans across the globe.
C. Governments are Trying to Make Lifespan Long
D. The Effect of Cancer is Worse than Dirty Air
D 33. C 34. A 35. B

根据倒数第三段“The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends limiting PM 2.5 to 10 micrograms (微克) per cubic (立方) meter of air. Apte’s group used data to try to find how this low level would help people. But meeting the WHO standard won’t get rid of health damage from dirty air. ”(世界卫生组织(WHO)建议将PM限制在2.5至10微克每立方空气流量计。Apte的团队利用数据试图找出这一低水平将如何帮助人们。但是,达到世界卫生组织的标准并不能消除肮脏空气对健康的损害。)可知,即使限制在将PM限制在2.5至10微克每立方空气流量计,还是有健康损害。故选C。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“These results show that in poor countries, cleaning up dirty air could greatly increase lifespans. It could have as big an effect as cleaning up drinking water, or curing lung cancer. However, in wealthier countries air pollution shortens life expectancy by less than half a year. All forms of cancer, in fact, shorten the average life expectancy by more than 3.5 years. “Knowing this can really help people. or policymakers, decide where to spend their money.” says Kirk Smith.”(这些结果表明,在贫穷国家,清洁肮脏的空气可以大大延长寿命。
根据第一段“Breathing dirty air can cost someone’s lifespan (寿命) months—even years, a new study finds. Worldwide, air pollution lowers average lifespans by a year. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
To keep social distancing and work at home during the pandemic (流行病) has led to less time moving around, and more time sitting and looking at screens. For many office workers, working at home means spending hours sitting at our desk. ____36____. Therefore, exercise experts suggest things must be changed. Some tips here are to help you move more.
Start small
People trying to start exercising often get caught up in an “all or nothing” thinking which means either I do zero or I do two hours. And if I don’t get two hours, then it doesn’t count, or it’s not good enough. ____37____. Going from no activity at all to even a little bit will indeed get some health effects.
____38____
Part of developing a good exercise habit is to know yourself well. Knowing what’s possible and what’s not realistic for you. For instance, if you’re not a morning person, don’t plan to exercise in the morning. And if you hate running, don’t run just because someone tells you it’s good for you. ____39____. Arranging with a friend to work out will help you avoid struggling to get started.
Walk whenever you can
Sitting less and walking more will make a big difference. Use your stairs instead of an elevator. And if you don’t have to go out, just walk room to room back and forth to get those extra steps. If you have a meeting, use the break of that meeting to walk around. ____40____
A. Make sure to know yourself well
B. Choose a suitable time for yourself
C. All these steps will count and be helpful
D. That’s a great place for everybody to walk
E. But five minutes is believed to be better than none
F. And it is ruining our health physically and mentally
G. You can think of possible ways for you to start or stick to
F 37. E 38. A 39. G 40. C
由上文“To keep social distancing and work at home during the pandemic (流行病) has led to less time moving around, and more time sitting and looking at screens. For many office workers, working at home means spending hours sitting at our desk.”(在流感大流行期间,保持社会距离和在家工作的做法,导致人们活动的时间减少,更多的时间坐着看屏幕。 结合下文“Therefore, exercise experts suggest things must be changed.”(因此,运动专家建议,必须改变一些东西。)
2.由上文“And if I don’t get two hours. then it doesn’t count, or it’s not good enough.”(如果我锻炼达不到两个小时,那么锻炼就没有意义,或者这样锻炼不足够好。)和下文“Going from no activity at all to even a little bit will indeed get some health effects.”(从根本不活动到哪怕一点点都会对健康产生一些影响。)
根据下文“Part of developing a good exercise habit is to know yourself well. Knowing what’s possible and what’s not realistic for you.”(养成良好的锻炼习惯的一部分就是要了解自己。 可知,本段主要讲我们要了解自己,A选项“Make sure to know yourself well”(确保你很了解自己)符合,故选A。
4.由下文“Arranging with a friend to work out will help you avoid struggling to get started.”(和一个朋友去健身,可以帮助你避免开始锻炼的挣扎。)
5.由上文“And if you don’t have to go out, just walk room to room back and forth to get those extra steps. If you have a meeting, use the break of that meeting to walk around.”(如果你不需要出门,就在一个房间里走来走去,多走几步。

That day also, Vivian got up late and therefore did everything in a hurry. She rushed to the school to get a seat beside Sara or any other good student in the class so that she could ask them to show her the answer sheet. Luckily, she found an empty chair beside Sara in the examination room.

When the exam started, Vivian tried to peep (偷看) at sara's paper while Sara kept hiding her answers. But it was impossible for Sara to keep hiding answers while still writing. Thus forgetting her peeping friend, she completed her paper and left the alas room.

Vivian was surprised. She thought about how this could happen when she had copied from Sara's answer sheet. Then she went to Sara and apologized for what she had done. Next day she asked Sara if she could check her test paper and tell her what she had done wrong that got her such poor marks. It was a geography paper.
Sara looked at Vivian's test paper and found that Vivian had written everything wrong.Instead of “water pollution reduces the supply of freshwater” she had written “Water cleaning reduces the supply of dirty water”; similarly, other answers were wrong too. As Vivian didn't study before, she had no idea about the meaning of what she was copying from Sara's paper as she couldn't see all the answers. Sara felt bad for Vivian so she hoped her friend would end this careless attitude and instead take her studies seriously. Vivian was ashamed of cheating and losing her best friend, so she promised never to cheat again and study hard from that day on.
