2024-2025学年度灌南县1月期末质量监测 英语试题(笔试部分) (本卷满分150分 考试时间120分钟) 一.阅读理解(2.5*20=50分) A Libraries can give people knowledge, and visiting them can be an enjoyable experience. Below are some fine ones in the world. Mediatheque Sandro Penna — Perugia, Italy The building, which was finished in 2004 and showcases a space-age design, is the creation of Italo Rota, an architect in Milan. Its pink glass on the outside glows (发光) at night. Inside, there’s also a touch of color given by furniture in the children’s area. Sound insulation (隔音) helps create an environment perfect for reading and study. Admont Abbey Library — Admont, Austria Situated on the Enns River in southeast Austria, the library of Admont Abbey, constructed in 1776, is breathtaking in its beauty. Baroque architect Joseph Hueber was tasked with developing the design for the hall. Impressive in gold and white colors, the library is crowned with seven domes (穹顶) whose ceiling space represents different phases of human knowledge. Handelingenkamer — The Hague, The Netherlands The Handelingenkamer library, constructed at the end of the 19th century, may belong to the Dutch Parliament (议会), but its eye-catching Renaissance design was actually creatively influenced by the art of China. This can be seen in its red, green and gold color as well as the dragon heads dotting the walls and the shapes formed by the ironwork. Meanwhile, this beauty is topped with a glass dome that allows natural light to fill the space, making it easy for visitors to read during the day. Wiblinglen Abbey Library — Ulm, Germany If you want to find a truly amazing library, a visit to Wiblinglen Abbey Library probably won’t disappoint. Native painter Franz Martin Kühn’s gorgeous ceiling paintings top a brightly colored, and complicatedly decorated space that was designed by Christian Wiedemann and is said to be famous throughout southern Germany for its Rococo style. It was completed in 1744. 1.Who will be interested in Mediatheque Sandro Penna? A.Adults who want to read in a quiet place. B.Children who prefer studying under glass domes. C.Historians who specialize in studying Renaissance. D.Architects who are enthusiastic about historical buildings. 2.What does the text say about Handelingenkamer? A.It features a round red dome. B.It has a design influenced by Chinese art. C.It was decorated by a famous native painter. D.It was completed with the help of the Dutch Parliament. 3.Which library has the longest history? A.Admont Abbey Library. B.Handelingenkamer. C.Mediatheque Sandro Penna. D.Wiblinglen Abbey Library. B Imagine you’re walking across endless hills, with warm sunshine and the sound of birds all around. This peaceful scene is a rare one in the modern world. Our natural soundscapes (声音环境) are falling silent as bird populations reduce. Our study explores the link between birdsong and people, specifically on English vineyards (葡萄园). We surveyed bird communities on 21 vineyards and our results showed that vineyards with more bird species (物种) had louder and more complex (复杂的) soundscapes. But does the silencing of our soundscapes matter to us? The short answer is yes. There is growing evidence about the health benefits of spending time in nature, including reducing risks of heart disease and anxiety. So as part of our research, we explored the experience of 186 wine-tour participants (参与者) across three vineyards with different soundscapes. We also improved some vineyard soundscapes with hidden speakers, which played the songs of five additional bird species. This was designed to see how participants’ contact with nature would be affected by increasing the kinds of birds and songs. The results were fascinating. Visitors who experienced louder and more complex sounds — whether on vineyards with naturally richer soundscapes or on those we had improved — reported enjoying the sounds more. They felt more connected to nature and more satisfied with their tour. With richer soundscapes, they felt more mindful and positive during the tours. Our study shows the direct effect that birdsong has on our happiness and presents a strong argument for protecting natural soundscapes. So, we hope businesses and people will be inspired to invest (投资) in protection and promote connection with nature. 4.What’s the purpose of the first paragraph? A.To show opinions. B.To amuse readers. C.To introduce the topic. D.To explain the causes. 5.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about? A.The process of the research. B.The objectives of the research. C.The findings of the research. D.The importance of the research. 6.What does the underlined word “fascinating” in Paragraph 5 mean? A.Too boring. B.Very surprising. C.Quite interesting. D.Much confusing. 7.What do the findings of the study suggest? A.Doing deeper research. B.Building better businesses. C.Seeking greater happiness. D.Connecting more with nature. C Shanghai’s 11-year-old sailor, Yang Jixin, has made a notable entry in the sailing records by completing the 2024 Rizhao-Qingdao Island Hopping Race, navigating (横渡) 66 nautical miles, around 77 miles in the ocean. Yang also set a new benchmark (基准) by being the youngest Chinese youth to complete such a long voyage. The race, which started on Aug. 10 from the Rizhao World Sailing Base and ended at the Beijing Olympic Sailing Training Base in Qingdao on Aug. 13, presented a series of challenges over its four- day sailing. Yang, the youngest national record-holder for kayaking (皮艇运动) across the Qiongzhou Strait, demonstrated her toughness and sailing acumen (敏锐) among the hot and wet weather, periods of calm, headwinds, and the complex interference (干扰) of waves. The organizers took careful steps to ensure the safety of sailors, carrying out measures such as maritime rescue, medical support, and navigation monitoring throughout the event. Upon her arrival at the Silver Sea Yacht Marina in Qingdao, Yang was welcomed by several figures from the sailing community, including Dai Zhiqiang, a former member of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Vice Chairman of the China Yachting Association, and Principal of the National Sailing School. Their presence recognized the significance of her success. Dai greeted Yang with a congratulatory smile and rang the bell in her honor, a traditional mark of a successful sailing journey. His actions reflected the encouragement and support for the up-and-coming generation of sailors that Yang represents. Yang’s achievement is more than a personal success. It’s an inspiration for young sailors and it highlights the potential for future developments in the sport of sailing. By setting a new record for the youngest Chinese youth in long-distance sailing, she has opened doors for others to follow and has shown that age is no barrier to ambition and skill. Her journey across the waves will undoubtedly encourage others to map their courses, and to rise to the challenges that lie beyond the known shores. 8.Which of the following can best describe Yang Jixin? A.Determined and skilled. B.Generous and confident. C.Helpful and successful. D.Adventurous and honest. 9.Why were some famous figures present when Yang reached the Silver Sea Yacht Marina? A.To follow her example. B.To celebrate her achievement. C.To face challenges with her. D.To offer her further guidance. 10.What is the last paragraph mainly about? A.Yang’s suggestions. B.Yang’s potential. C.Yang’s ambitions. D.Yang’s influences. 11.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A.The 2024 Rizhao-Qingdao Island Hopping Race B.A Young Sailor’s Inspiring Adventure C.11-year-old Sailor Braving the Sea D.Sailing Challenges Testing Courage D New students at Eton, starting the school year in September, are not allowed to take smartphones with them. Instead, they will each be given a “dumb” Nokia phone that is unable to access the Internet and only allows calls and texts. Students might blame the psychologist Jonathan Haidt, who popularised the idea that smartphones are responsible for rising rates of mental health problems among young people. Teachers at nearly two-thirds of secondary schools now say they have rules that prevent students from using their phones during the day. But is there really anything wrong with spending a bit of time watching videos on social media? Or taking your phone out while you’re in the supermarket queue to see funny news? We might need meaning and purpose and psychological richness in our lives, but surely we need a bit of pleasure too. A study published in April in PLoS One found that spending 20 minutes on social media or watching videos on YouTube not only contributed to no negative stress response, but was associated with a decrease in both heart rate and cortisol (皮质醇). What we get wrong is thinking that we are relaxing just because scrolling (浏览) mindlessly through social media is unproductive and feels like “time out”. There is a significant difference between doing things like being with our loved ones, spending time in nature, or reading a great book and emotional numbing (麻木). As the psychiatrist Anna Lembke argues in her book Dopamine Nation, by endlessly seeking pleasure and stimulation from our smartphone — which she describes as the “modern-day hypodermic (皮下注射) needle” — we become addicted to such stimulation, and find it harder to find joy in other less immediate things. But also, by never putting our phones down and never giving ourselves a break from endless stimulation, we are not able to go into the kind of quiet brain state that allows mind-wandering, creativity and deep reflection. As we all know, if you are not paying for it, then you are the product, and businessmen in the marketplace of attention are constantly adjusting the ways in which they occupy our brain space. We must learn to get more creative and intentional about the ways we choose to relax ourselves and perhaps, even, to enjoy some good-old fashioned boredom. 12.Why is the school Eton mentioned in paragraph 1? A.To raise a doubt. B.To explain a phenomenon. C.To introduce a topic. D.To launch a campaign. 13.What does the study published in April in PLoS One suggest? A.Constant use of social media is beneficial to health. B.Proper use of social media can reduce stress. C.Watching YouTube videos increases heart rate. D.Spending time on social media has little effect on people. 14.Why does Anna Lembke describe the smartphone as the “modern-day hypodermic needle”? A.Because smartphones can bring new energy. B.Because people rely too much on smartphones. C.Because smartphones might relieve pain quickly. D.Because people will get medical help from smartphones. 15.What can we learn from the last paragraph? A.We should pay for using smartphones. B.Businessmen often control our thinking. C.Boredom is unacceptable in modern life. D.We should choose our relaxing ways wisely. E How to Make Eye Contact Making eye contact can be tricky, especially if you are shy, or nervous. But good eye-contact is important for building trust and engaging an audience. 16 Turning your shoulders and head to face the other person’s eyes. Opening up your body to the other person helps to tell him you are listening, engaged, and ready to communicate. 17 Position yourself a few feet away from the other person’s face, which ensures a respectful distance while still maintaining a sense of closeness. Choosing a focal point near the eyes. Most commonly, this is one of the other person’s eyes. But if you do feel uncomfortable, you can also avoid their eyes in a wise way. 18 You can also choose to look under or above the eyes, or at a certain point around the ear. Bear in mind that maintaining eye contact with the help of an appropriate focal point is an effective way to show sincerity. 19 Think of how you would look at a painting or great view — you are not focusing intently on them, but instead looking at them gently. So, relax your gaze (注视) by breathing slowly as you make gentle eye-contact and nodding occasionally while you listen. Breaking eye contact briefly every 5-15 seconds. 20 While you don’t need to count the seconds, you should look away every once in a while to keep the conversation light and easy, but only for a few seconds. Some casual ways to do so include: laughing, nodding, and acknowledging the other person; looking at the sky; looking off to the side briefly, as if remembering something or running your hands through your hair. A.Making gentle eye-contact. B.Looking between their eyes is a good choice. C.It also makes eye contact more natural to maintain. D.Below are the reasons why you should make eye contact. E.Avoiding hesitant eye contact in a formal and important meeting. F.Too much eye-contact can be as uncomfortable as none at all. G.All it takes is a little practice to confidently hold someone’s gaze. 二、完形填空(1*15=15分) One sunny afternoon, young Tom was walking along the street with his head down, feeling quite lost. Moreover, the additional time fosters social interactions, helping to build stronger bonds among classmates. To make the best use of these 15 minutes, I suggest engaging in light physical activities like stretching or a quick walk around the campus. By doing so, we can truly harness the potential of this extended break for our overall well-being. 2 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
