Having a special connection with kites, Yang learned the technique from her grandfather at the age of 16. Today, I’d like to recommend Song of Autumn, one of the poems by Liu Yuxi (772-842), a famous poet and writer in the mid Tang dynasty. Just as shown in the first line of the poem, most ancient poets liked to describe autumn as a sad time, but in this poem the season appears differently. In Liu’s eyes, autumn, full of life and hope, is even better than spring morning. He describes the bright scene of a crane riding the clouds and flying into the blue sky. With his poems paying special attention to expressing personal feelings, as well as the daily life of common people, Liu wrote poems with beautiful music-like words. You may feel it in this poem. Though being translated thoughtfully by experienced Xu Yuanchong, the poem still reads not so beautifully as that in Chinese. I personally think that English is sometimes not so powerful as Chinese. 1.What is autumn like in Liu’s Song of Autumn? 2.How did Liu make poems read beautifully? 3.Which season do you like better, spring or autumn? Why? B 请认真阅读下面短文,用英文回答后面的问题。 My 100 Days Without a Mobile Phone When was the last time you left home without your mobile phone? Can you imagine yourself living a month, or even a year without checking your mobile phone from time to time? As a busy modern person with lots of social connections, plans and responsibilities, I just cannot afford to not be in touch with the rest of the world. Staying connected to other people is a big part of my life. However, sometimes it can be bothersome (恼人的). One day I discovered I was terribly tired out. I tried turning notifications (通知) off. But the fear of missing out something important made me check the phone more often than before. So, I simply stopped using my phone. Well, to tell the truth, it was not simple at all. For the first couple of days, I had a big fear that all of my friends would soon forget about me. When I had a free moment, I had no idea what to get myself distracted (分心的) with, and the worries mixed with boredom kept bothering me. However, after three weeks without a mobile phone, I started noticing changes — changes which I liked, and which drove me to not just continue the experiment, but in fact to reorganize some of my habits. First of all, I noticed that I became much more focused (专注的). Before, while doing something, I would often find myself wondering what was going on online. After a month of staying away from my mobile phone, I found that the urge (冲动) was already not that strong and that my ability to focus improved. I discovered that the world is a beautiful place. Before, I would look at it through my camera mostly: take a photo, post it, get some likes. Now, I saw beautiful people walking around and I sensed the seasons change. I could understand the actual beauty of the world, and I did not need anyone else to prove the value of this beauty through likes or shares. Now, as 100 days have passed, I can say that the experiment was worth it. I am planning to stay away from my phone for as long as possible. 1.Why did the writer check the phone more often than before when he was terribly tired out? 2.What changes did the writer have after three weeks without a mobile phone? 3.(开放性设问)Would you like to follow the writer’s example? Why or why not? (Please give two reasons.) C Paying for bus rides with plastic usually makes people think of plastic bus cards. But one Indonesian city has decided to accept plastic recyclable waste in place of money for city buses. Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest city, located on the eastern end of the country’s main island Java, made this decision in April, 2018. Now, locals can pay for their bus rides by putting plastic cups or bottles directly on the bus. A two-hour bus ride costs 10 plastic cups or 5 bottles. Indonesia is the second largest ocean plastic polluter, producing up to 2.4 million tons of plastic waste into the oceans every year according to a report. Only in Surabaya nearly 400 tons of plastic waste is produced every day. The head of Surabaya’s transportation department said, “With this decision, we hope to raise public awareness about environment, especially people’s awareness about plastic waste.” Each city bus can collect up to 550 pounds of plastic bottles and cups every day. The collected bottles are sold to recycling companies and the money earned from it goes toward running the bus companies and providing money for green spaces in the city. This is certainly turning rubbish into a national treasure. The decision is part of the city’s purpose to become plastic waste-free by 2020. In order to encourage local people to take buses, the city also added the new Suroboyo buses. The new buses are air-conditioned, comfortable and easy for elderly and disabled passengers to get on and off. The programme is well received. People in Surabaya said, “We can reduce waste so it doesn’t pile up at home because we can make good use of it. It is a win-win situation.” This type of programme can be a model for other cities worldwide and encourage citizens to recycle their plastic waste. 1.How much plastic waste does a two-hour bus ride cost? 2.What are the new Suroboyo buses like? 3.Do you think this programme in Surabaya is useful? Why? 【答案】 1. Autumn is full of life and hope. 2. Liu wrote poems with beautiful music-like words. 3.I like spring. Because spring is sunny and full of vitality. 【难度】0.4 【知识点】历史人物、中华文化、诗歌/小说 【导语】本文介绍著名诗人刘禹锡的诗歌——《秋词》,从诗歌中展现出刘禹锡的个人特色以及作者的感悟。 1.根据“In Liu’s eyes, autumn, full of life and hope, is even better than spring morning.”可知,在刘的眼中,秋天是充满希望的。故填Autumn is full of life and hope. 2.根据“Liu wrote poems with beautiful music-like words.”可知,刘用优美的乐声写诗。故填Liu wrote poems with beautiful music-like words. 3.开放性试题,答案合理即可。参考答案为:我喜欢春天。因为春天阳光明媚,生机盎然。故填I like spring. (Please give two reasons.) 【答案】 1. Because of the fear of missing out something important. 2.
