教学目标

2.识别和理解有关火星生活的词汇。
3.识别并列出地球生活与火星生活的不同之处。
教学内容
1.掌握词汇:crowded,polluted,rapid, increase, passenger,uncomfortable,oxygen,in the form of,tasty,specially,float,com-pare,interplanetary,network,challenging,rapidly。
2.词组:all over again,by the year...,more and more,because of,at present,a large numbers of, with the development of...,at the speed of light, three eighths, on Earth, float off,compare with,in many ways, connect to, study at online schools with e-teachers,space travel, the journey to, the population of,many types of shoes,take exams at school。
3.句型:
(1)Our own planet,the Earth,is becoming more and more crowded and polluted because of the rapid increase in population.
(2)With the development of technology, by the year 2100,the journey might only take about 20 minutes in spacecraft that travel at the speed of light!
(3)The gravity on Mars is only about three-eights of that on the Earth.
(4)Life on Mars would be interesting as well as challenging.

教学思路
本课时是本单元的重点,通过阐述火星上的生活,展示本课时的重点单词和句型,涉及的动词短语较多,为了能让学生轻松掌握学习的内容,首先让学生带着问题去阅读,通过回答老师的问题,对课文有整体的了解;然后,再通过更细致地找出火星在各个方面的特征,更好地去把握课文;最后,通过师生共同完成课后B1-B4部分的习题,对课文的重点和难点进行突破,达到了教学目标。

教学过程
Step I Revision and Presentation
1.T:Last class,we learned that the two dogs were living on Mars. Then we discussed what life would be like on Mars. OK,do you like living on Mars?
S:Yes,I do. I think it's wonderful to live there.
T:How do you like the food there?
S:Though it's in the form of pills,it would not be so tasty.
T:Great. Now how can you go there? By plane or by space-craft?
S:Spacecraft.
T:I think by the year 2100,the speed of spacecraft might be faster.Who will help you do your homework?
S:The robot.
T:How comfortable you are! I think our Earth is more and more crowded and polluted. We can live on Mars some day. And we should wear special boots to make ourselves heavier to prevent from floating off into space, Why? Because the gravity on Mars is only about three-eighths of that on Earth.
2.Read and drill the underlined words and phrases above.
Step II Listening and Scanning
1.Listen to the recorder and finish Part B3 on P55. Then check the answers in different groups.
2.Listen and read at the same time,then let students do the following true or false exercises.
(1)By the year 2100,people might live on Mars.(T)
(2)Mars is becoming crowded and polluted, (F)
(3) Now,it takes months for a spacecraft to travel from Earth to Mars.(T)
(4)People needn't wear special boots on Mars. (F)

Then do P54 B1,B2 in pairs.
3.Skimming and scanning.
Ask students to read the passage using the reading skills of skimmíng and scanning. Tell them to focus their attention on the paragraphs involved the following questions:
(1)Why do people move to Mars? (Para 1)
(2)When will people live on Mars? (Para 1)
(3)How do people move to Mars and how do people live on Mars? (Paras 2-4)
(4)What are the advantages of living on Mars? (Paras 5-6)
(5)What are the disadvantages of living on Mars? (Para 7)
Ask students to read the passage silently and find the an-swers. Then ask some students to tell the right answers.
4. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living on Earth and Mars in groups of four. Choose the best group to re-ward them with pictures about Mars.
