At age 43, the surgeon (外科医生) won a bronze medal in the 100m sprint at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics. When McFall was 19 and visiting Thailand, a motorcycle accident caused him to lose his right leg above the knee, ending his hopes of a career in the army. “I went through some dark times during those early days, but largely frustration, because I needed something to control the desire I had for challenge and achieving. It’s the world’s first process for making cement completely from food waste. The researchers say the strength of their product is nearly four times as great as that of ordinary concrete (混凝土). Sakai, with his student Machida, developed the technology while researching sustainable (可持续的) materials that could take the place of cement-based concrete. Previous tests using food waste to make cement required plastics to be mixed in to get the materials to stick together. After months of failures, they realized they could get the cement to form by changing the temperature and pressure used. “The most challenging part was that each type of food waste requires different temperatures and pressure levels,” Sakai said. Sakai and Machida say they have successfully made cement using tea leaves, orange and onion skins, coffee grounds and even lunchbox leftovers. By adding different spices (香料), the color, smell and taste of the cement can be quite nice. To prevent water from going through the cement and protect it from being eaten by animals and insects, it might be coated with special paint. To be able to eat the material, a person would need to break it into pieces and cook them in water, Sakai said. Sakai says the process could be used to make edible (可食用的) emergency housing for disasters. “For example, if food cannot be sent to the people in disaster areas, they could eat beds made out of food cement,” he said. Machida started a company called Fabula Inc. this year with two of his childhood friends. They are working with other companies to make articles for daily use out of food cement, such as cups, forks, spoons, tables and beds. The food cement can be reused and is biodegradable (可生物降解的), so it can be buried when it is no longer needed. “Our best hope is that this cement takes the place of plastic products and other cement products, which have worse environmental effects,” said Machida. 8. According to the first paragraph, the cement suitable to be eaten ______. A. is not the first of its kind B. is widely used in buildings C. is entirely made out of food waste D. is not as hard as ordinary concrete 9. What is the most difficult part of making the cement? A. To prevent it from being eaten by animals. B. To make it look, smell and taste good. C. The process of choosing which materials can be used. D. The need to treat different materials in different ways. 10. What is Sakai and Machida’s attitude to the future of the cement? A. Concerned. B. Positive. C. Indifferent. D. Uncertain. 11. What does the writer want to stress in the last paragraph? A. The food cement can be buried when it is no longer in need. B. The food cement is environmentally friendly. C. They are trying to replace plastic products with food cement. D. Plastic products and other cement products have worse environmental effects. 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. B 11. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了东京大学研究人员开发的一项新技术,即将食物垃圾转化为可食用的“水泥”来建造物品,并详细阐述了这项技术的特点、制作过程、应用场景以及环保意义。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“Tokyo University researchers Yuya Sakai and Kota Machida have developed a technology to turn food waste into “cement” (水泥) which is suitable to be eaten to build things. It’s the world’s first process for making cement completely from food waste.(东京大学的研究人员Yuya Sakai和Kota Machida开发了一项技术,可以将食物垃圾转化为可食用的“水泥”来建造物品。这是世界上第一种完全由食物垃圾制成的水泥制造过程)”可知,可食用水泥是完全由食物垃圾制成的。故选C。 9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段““The most challenging part was that each type of food waste requires different temperatures and pressure levels,” Sakai said.(“最具挑战性的是,每种类型的食物垃圾都需要不同的温度和压力水平,”Sakai说)”可知,制作这种水泥最困难的部分是需要以不同的方式处理不同的材料。故选D。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Sakai says the process could be used to make edible (可食用的) emergency housing for disasters.(Sakai表示,该过程可用于制造可食用的应急住房以应对灾害)”以及第五段“Machida started a company called Fabula Inc. this year with two of his childhood friends. They are working with other companies to make articles for daily use out of food cement, such as cups, forks, spoons, tables and beds.(Machida今年与他的两位童年好友一起创办了一家名为Fabula Inc.的公司。他们正在与其他公司合作,使用食物水泥制造日常用品,如杯子、叉子、勺子、桌子和床)”可知,Sakai和Machida正在积极研究、推广和应用这种水泥。由此推知,他们对这种水泥的未来持积极态度。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The food cement can be reused and is biodegradable (可生物降解的), so it can be buried when it is no longer needed. “Our best hope is that this cement takes the place of plastic products and other cement products, which have worse environmental effects,” said Machida.(这种食品水泥可以重复使用,而且是可生物降解的,因此当不再需要时可以将其掩埋。Machida说:“我们最大的希望是这种水泥能取代塑料制品和其他对环境影响更大的水泥产品”)”可推知,作者想强调这种食品水泥非常环保。故选B。 D Some police departments in the United States are experimenting with AI tools to help them produce reports. Police officers who have tried the AI chatbots (聊天机器人) praise the technology as a time-saver. Yet some government lawyers, legal experts, and others have expressed concerns about the AI-produced reports. Axon, known for its body cameras, has developed a chatbot that uses the same technology as ChatGPT. This AI tool, named Draft One, is being tested by officers like Matt Gilmore from Oklahoma City. He describes the AI chatbot as a “game changer” for police work. In the past, after completing a search, the officer would spend another 30 to 45 minutes writing up a report. “This meaningless work takes me ages!” Matt said. But this time he used AI and the process only took eight seconds. And he described the report as better and more exact than one he could have written himself. However, Axon’s CEO, Rick Smith, also noted legal and ethical (道德的) worries about the tool. Government lawyers advise the police to be careful with the tool. They want to ensure that police officers are responsible for writing their reports. Prosecutors (检察官) never want to get an officer on the stand who says, “Well, the AI wrote that, I didn’t.”   Chatbots that use AI technology are not mistake-free. Sometimes these chatbots can produce false information, which worries Andrew Ferguson, a law professor at American University. “I am concerned that the technology would cause police officers to be sort of less careful with their writing,” he said. A police report is important in determining whether a suspect is guilty or not. However, human-created police reports also have problems, and it is not yet known which kind of report writer, human or AI, is more dependable. 12. What is the main purpose of the article? A. To explain how AI chatbots work for the police. B. To discuss the advantages and concerns of AI tool in police. C. To encourage the use of AI in police departments. D. To stress the legal and ethical problems of using AI in police reports. 13. According to the passage, what is one advantage of using AI to write police reports? A. It frees officers from boring daily tasks. B. It avoids the risk of false information. C. It ensures that reports are always right. D. It helps officers to complete a search. 14. What can we infer about AI technology from Paragraph 4? A. It may make police officers lose their jobs. B. It might make the police more careful with their writing. C. It may make officers less serious about their reporting. D. It can produce reports more reliable than human-written ones. 15. What is the best title for this passage? A. The Development of AI Chatbots in Police Reports. B. The Rise of AI Chatbots in Reports. C. AI Chatbots Applied in Police Reports. D. Police Reports Produced by AI Chatbots. 【答案】12. B 13. A 14. C 15. It can help you make friends, do well in school, and even get better jobs when you’re older. Sometimes, you may find it a struggle to communicate effectively with people around you. ____16____ Listen to others. Listening is a trait that is often forgotten about in modern society. In the process of communication, try to avoid responding to a text, opening an email, or thinking about your next meal.____17____ Show them you’re listening and interested by commenting on the story or asking questions. Speak sincerely. No one likes to be deceived. Tell people the truth. If you can’t commit to something, it’s better to be honest about it than to have to tell them last minute that you can’t make it. When people ask for your opinion, you should be honest.____18____ For instance, if you don’t like your friend’s shirt and they ask you about it, respond with, “I really like you in blue instead,” rather than, “I hate it, it’s ugly.” ____19____ How you say things is arguably more important than what you say. If you try to give someone a genuine compliment (赞美), but they think you say it with an ironic undertone, your compliment won’t mean a thing. Be aware of the way you speak. If you notice that people often take things you say the wrong way, there is a good chance you can change how you speak. Ask your friends to make you aware of the way you’re coming across. Help others communicate. Get a bunch of people together for a fun get-together. It can be as simple as a gathering at the park, or as fancy as an elegant dinner party.____20____ A. Know “how” vs “what”. B. Be aware of what you say. C. You should pay attention to what others are saying. D. This can be a good chance for you to communicate with others. E. Do remember there is a difference between honest and rude opinions. F. Either way, it shows them that you care and want to spread friendship. G. However, with practice and patience, you can become a great communicator. 【答案】16. G 17. C 18. E 19. A 20. F 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了成为好的交流者的四个建议。 【16题详解】 根据上文“Being a good communicator is an important life skill. It can help you make friends, do well in school, and even get better jobs when you’re older. Sometimes, you may find it a struggle to communicate effectively with people around you.(善于沟通是一项重要的生活技能。它可以帮助你交朋友,在学校表现好,甚至在你长大后找到更好的工作。有时候,你可能会发现与周围的人有效沟通是一件很困难的事情)”可知,上文提到成为好的交流者的益处,后文主要介绍了成为好的交流者的四个建议,推测本句与上文构成转折关系,说明沟通可以提高。故G选项“然而,通过练习和耐心,你可以成为一个伟大的沟通者”符合语境,故选G。 【17题详解】 根据上文“Listening is a trait that is often forgotten about in modern society. In the process of communication, try to avoid responding to a text, opening an email, or thinking about your next meal.(倾听是一种在现代社会中经常被遗忘的特质。在交流的过程中,尽量避免回复短信,打开电子邮件,或者考虑下一顿饭)”以及后文“Show them you’re listening and interested by commenting on the story or asking questions.(通过评论故事或问问题来表明你在倾听和感兴趣)”可知,本段主要建议我们要做一个认真倾听的人。根据上下文都讲述了如何倾听的具体建议,故本句也应该是关于认真倾听的一条具体建议。故C选项“你应该注意别人在说什么”符合语境,故选C。 【18题详解】 根据后文“For instance, if you don’t like your friend’s shirt and they ask you about it, respond with, “I really like you in blue instead,” rather than, “I hate it, it’s ugly.”(例如,如果你不喜欢你朋友的衬衫,而他们问你这件衬衫,你可以这样回答:“我真的很喜欢你穿蓝色的。”而不是说:“我讨厌它,它很丑。”)”可知,本空与下文是举例关系。根据“I really like you in blue instead,” rather than, “I hate it, it’s ugly.”可以得出诚实与粗鲁是两回事。故E选项“记住诚实的意见和粗鲁的意见是有区别的”符合语境,故选E。 【19题详解】 根据本段内容“How you say things is arguably more important than what you say. If you try to give someone a genuine compliment (赞美), but they think you say it with an ironic undertone, your compliment won’t mean a thing. Be aware of the way you speak. If you notice that people often take things you say the wrong way, there is a good chance you can change how you speak. Ask your friends to make you aware of the way you’re coming across.(可以说,你说话的方式比你说的话更重要。如果你试图给某人一个真诚的赞美,但他们认为你说这话带有讽刺意味,你的赞美就没有意义了。注意你说话的方式。如果你注意到人们经常误解你说的话,那你就很有可能改变你说话的方式。让你的朋友让你意识到你遇到的方式)”可知,本段主要讲述了交流中要注意说什么,尤其是该怎样说。故A选项:“知道“怎么做”和“做什么””符合语境,故选A。 【20题详解】 根据上文“Get a bunch of people together for a fun get-together. It can be as simple as a gathering at the park, or as fancy as an elegant dinner party.(召集一群人来个有趣聚会。 My mom is the greatest mom ever. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks (催促). One day, Ali took Zahra’s shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn’t until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali’s running shoes. Zahra’s school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school. Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes. The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish line drew near, another runner collided (碰撞) with Ali from behind and he crashed to the ground. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Ali looked up and saw the other boys rushing ahead. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Filled with delight, Ali walked home quickly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Ali looked up and saw the other boys rushing ahead. Refusing to give up at this point, he jumped to his feet and ran as fast as he could. He dashed across the finish line and won the fourth prize. Thinking he would let his sister down, Ali couldn’t help sobbing. Just then he suddenly heard the announcement from the broadcast that he won the third prize as the runner who collided with Ali was disqualified for breaking the rule. Holding the shoes close to his chest during the award ceremony, Ali felt overjoyed and relieved. Filled with delight, Ali walked home quickly. He could not wait to see his sister and share the thrilling news. On his arrival, Ali found Zahra was waiting outside. She was wondering whether her brother had brought her what she was expecting. “Zahra, see what I have got for you.” He took the prize out of his bag with his trembling hands. The moment Zahra saw the shoes, her face lit up. So thrilled was she that she threw herself at Ali. “Thank you! Ali.” Tears of joy welled up in their eyes. 词汇激活 行为类 ①跳:jump/leap/spring ②违反:break/violate ③看见:see/catch sight of 情绪类 ①失望:let sb down/disappoint sb ②欣喜若狂:overjoyed/ecstatic/elated ③激动的:thrilled/excited 【点睛】[高分句型1] Refusing to give up at this point, he jumped to his feet and ran as fast as he could. B British Paralympic bronze medalist John McFall carried the Paralympic flag at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games (残奥会). He was one of only two flag bearers to represent the whole Paralympic Games, rather than a specific country. McFall shows how outstanding competitors can go on to break through ever more challenging barriers. He is now on a path toward becoming the world’s first “parastronaut” after getting approved for possible missions (任务) by the European Space Agency (ESA). And for me, the natural choice was sport,” he told Reuters. Three years ago, one of his colleagues suggested he apply for a position in a European study exploring whether a person with a physical disability could join a space mission. After going through strict testing, he passed all the evaluations, proving that an astronaut with a disability like his could successfully operate in space, Wired magazine reported. Although he has been referred to as a “parastronaut”, McFall prefers to be seen simply as a normal crew member. McFall hopes his experience, along with those 4,000 athletes at the Paris Paralympic Games, can send an encouraging message to others facing any kind of life-changing cases. 4. Easier said than done. B. Man’s courage bears all burdens. C. Action speaks louder than words. D. Good advice is beyond all price. C Tokyo University researchers Yuya Sakai and Kota Machida have developed a technology to turn food waste into “cement” (水泥) which is suitable to be eaten to build things. D Some police departments in the United States are experimenting with AI tools to help them produce reports. It can be as simple as a gathering at the park or as fancy as an elegant dinner party.____20____ A. Know “how” vs “what”. B. Be aware of what you say. C. You should pay attention to what others are saying. D. This can be a good chance for you to communicate with others. E. Ali had a strong start but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third.
