Over the years, they are hosting events like stargazing festivals to get travelers excited about astronomy. Bryce Canyon National Park — June 14-17 Situated in southern Utah, Bryce Canyon, the 35,835-acre park, is an ideal place to stay up late. This year, its annual astronomy festival includes guided stargazing sessions, lectures, star stories, family-friendly activities, and even a performance by some musicians in the northern Arizona-based Dark Sky Quartet. Shenandoah National Park — August 11-13 Conveniently located within a day’s drive from two-thirds of Americans, the nearly 200,000-acre park will have a festival to provide an easy way to dip into astronomy. Ranger talks, public stargazing sessions, lectures and activities for kids will be hosted. Past events also covered topics ranging from space weather to nocturnal creatures. Great Basin National Park — September 14-16 As one of the least crowded national parks, Great Basin National Park hosts annual fall astronomy festival with guest speakers, observatory tours, and a photography workshop. During the festival’s unique “Art in the Dark” program, participants will get to paint in low-light conditions and experiment with how their eyes perceive colors. Joshua Tree National Park — October 13-14 Joshua Tree National Park, the “nearest convenient place to go stargazing” for the 18 million people living in LA, hosts a night sky festival every fall. As luck would have it, this year’s dates overlap with a “ring of fire” solar eclipse. From Joshua Tree, the moon will appear to block between 70 and 80 percent of the sun. 21. What is the purpose of Stargazing Festivals? A. To provide a platform to observe stars. B. To raise public interest in astronomy. C. To collect money for more observatories. D. To advocate actions against light pollution. 22. Where can you experience working in low-light conditions? A. Great Basin National Park. B. Shenandoah National Park. C. Bryce Canyon National Park. D. Joshua Tree National Park. 23. What might be a bonus if you attend Joshua Tree National Park festival this year? A. A solar eclipse. B. A stargazing tour. C. A music performance. D. An observatory tour. B 22. A 23. 根据第一段中“Over the years, they are hosting events like stargazing festivals to get travelers excited about astronomy.”(多年来,他们举办观星节等活动,让游客对天文学感到兴奋。) 根据Great Basin National Park—September 14-16 中“During the festival’s unique “Art in the Dark” program, participants will get to paint in low-light conditions and experiment with how their eyes perceive colors.”(在艺术节独特的“黑暗中的艺术”项目中,参与者将在弱光条件下作画,并实验他们的眼睛如何感知颜色。) 故选A项。 根据Joshua Tree National Park—October 13-14中“As luck would have it, this year’s dates overlap with a “ring of fire” solar eclipse. From Joshua Tree, the moon will appear to block between 70 and 80 percent of the sun.”(幸运的是,今年的日期与“火环”日食重叠。 故选A项。 B As a young girl growing up in France, Sarah Toumi dreamed of becoming a leader who could make the world a better place. Her passion to help others was awakened when, from the age of nine, she accompanied her Tunisian father to his birthplace in the east of the country during holidays. There she organized homework clubs and activities for children. Toumi witnessed first-hand the destructive effect of desertification (沙漠化). “Within10 years rich farmers became worse off, and in 10 years from now they will be poor. I wanted to stop the Sahara Desert in its tracks.” A decrease in average rainfall and an increase in the severity of droughts have led to an estimated 75 percent of Tunisia’s agricultural lands being threatened by desertification. Toumi recognized that farming practices needed to change. She is confident that small land areas can bring large returns if farmers are able to adapt by planting sustainable (可持续的) crops, using new technologies for water treatment and focusing on natural products and fertilizers (肥料) rather than chemicals. In 2012, Toumi continued her dream to fight the desert. She moved to Tunisia, and set up a programme named Acacias for All to put her sustainable farming philosophy into action. “I want to show young people in rural areas that they can create opportunities where they are. Nobody is better able to understand the impact of desertification and climate change than somebody who is living with no access to water.” By September2016, more than 130, 000 acacia trees had been planted on 20 pilot farms, with farmers recording a 60 percent survival rate. Toumi estimates that some 3 million acacia trees are needed to protect Tunisia’s farmland. She expects to plant l million trees by 2028. In the next couple of years, Toumi hopes to extend the programme to Algeria and Morocco. 24. How did Toumi’s holiday trips to Tunisia influence her? A. They fired her enthusiasm for helping others. B. They helped her better understand her father. C. They made her decide to leave the country. D. They destroyed her dream of being a teacher. 25. What is the main cause of the desertification of Tunisia’s farmland? A. Cold weather. B. Soil pollution. C. Low rainfall. D. Forest damage. 26. Why did Toumi set up Acacias for All in Tunisia? A. To create job opportunities for young people. B. To promote the protection of their farmland. C. To persuade the farmers not to use fertilizers. D. To help the children obtain a basic education. 27 Which of the following can be the best title to the text? A. Saving Water in Africa B. Fighting Poverty in North Africa C. Holding back the Sahara D. Planting Trees in Tunisia 【答案】24. A 25. C 26. B 27. 根据文章第一段“As a young girl growing up in France, Sarah Toumi dreamed of becoming a leader who could make the world a better place. Her passion to help others was awakened when, from the age of nine, she accompanied her Tunisian father to his birthplace in the east of the country during holidays. There she organized homework clubs and activities for children. (作为一个在法国长大的年轻女孩,Sarah Toumi梦想成为一名能够让世界变得更美好的领导者。从九岁起,她就在假期陪伴Tunisian父亲前往他在该国东部的出生地,这唤醒了她帮助他人的热情。在那里,她为孩子们组织了家庭作业俱乐部和活动。)”可知,Toumi在Tunisian的假期旅行激发了她帮助他人的热情。故选A。 根据文章第二段中的“A decrease in average rainfall and an increase in the severity of droughts have led to an estimated 75 percent of Tunisia’s agricultural lands being threatened by desertification. (平均降雨量的减少和干旱严重程度的增加导致突尼斯大约75%的农业用地受到荒漠化的威胁。)”可知,导致突尼斯农田沙漠化的主因是降水量减少。故选C。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“In 2012, Toumi continued her dream to fight the desert. She moved to Tunisia, and set up a programme named Acacias for All to put her sustainable farming philosophy into action. “I want to show young people in rural areas that they can create opportunities where they are. Nobody is better able to understand the impact of desertification and climate change than somebody who is living with no access to water.” (2012年,Toumi继续她与沙漠作战的梦想。她搬到了突尼斯,建立了一个名为“Acacias for All”的项目,将她的可持续农业理念付诸行动。“我想向农村地区的年轻人展示,他们可以在自己所在的地方创造机会。没有人比那些生活在没有水的地方的人更能理解荒漠化和气候变化的影响。”)”和第五段中“Toumi estimates that some 3 million acacia trees are needed to protect Tunisia’s farmland. (Toumi估计需要大约300万棵金合欢树来保护Tunisia的农田。)”可知,Toumi建立Acacias for All的目的是为了推广保护他们农田的行动。故选B。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是由文章第二段“Toumi witnessed first-hand the destructive effect of desertification (沙漠化). 因此,“Holding back the Sahara (阻挡Sahara)”最能概括文章主题。故选C。 C Hearing the speeding cars passing us, I had to focus on the sound of my uncle’s bicycle leading the way. At thirty, with my retinas (视网膜) dying from an eye disease, driving a car was impossible and I couldn’t give up the freedom of riding my bike. Uncle Fred pedalled steadily. I biked a few inches behind. He shouted directions at each intersection. Suddenly, his voice rose with urgency, “Carol, stop! A car is turning.” When we reached our destination, my shoulders ached from the ride. As I sat next to Uncle Fred, he cleared his throat and said, “Carol, did you think about getting a trained Seeing Eye dog? It can give you independence.” He knew I was afraid of dogs. Words stuck in my throat. But his voice cracked and planted the seed of an idea. My world shrunk as my blindness grew worse. Luckily, I had a good sense of direction, allowing me to visualize neighborhood routes. This skill could be an advantage when working with a dog. After calculating, I finally called the guide dog school. The admission application arrived, but I still wasn’t sure. One day, I phoned my friend Robert, a longtime guide dog user in my town. He shared his positive experiences. Somehow, his words convinced me to give it a try. During the training, the dog trainer’s coaching and each successful walk with the dogs built my confidence. As my guide dog Misty and I bonded, my shoulders relaxed. When I returned home, Uncle Fred was the first to meet Misty. Misty sat at our feet waving her tail. She must have picked up on the positive energy that circled us like a hug. Misty drove away my anxiety as I slowly opened my heart to her. Just as Uncle Fred had predicted, overcoming my fear gave me the opportunity for more independence. My new confidence came from using a guide dog, allowing me to walk tall. Uncle Fred’s advice moved my sense of joy from my bike to my dog. 28. What drove the author to ride a bike? A. Getting prepared for driving a car. B. Treating her disease by taking exercise. C. Getting familiar with noisy background. D. Enjoying the freedom of moving around. 29. How did the author react to her uncle’s suggestion? A. She thought it worth a try. B. She drew up a practical plan. C. She was stuck in desperation. D. She refused it for fear of dogs. 30. Why did the author call Robert? A. To invite him to adopt a dog. B. To ask him about the application. C. To encourage him to be positive in life. D. To consult him about taking a guide dog. 31. What change did Misty bring to the author? A. She became confident about fighting the illness. B. She became more attached to her uncle for help. C. She gained her independence with Misty’s help. D. She formed her community of guide dog trainers. D 29. A 30. D 31. 由第一段“Hearing the speeding cars passing us, I had to focus on the sound of my uncle’s bicycle leading the way. At thirty, with my retinas (视网膜) dying from an eye disease, driving a car was impossible and I couldn’t give up the freedom of riding my bike.(听到超速行驶的汽车从我们身边经过,我不得不专注于我叔叔的自行车带路的声音。三十岁时,我的视网膜因眼疾而逐渐丧失功能,开车是不可能的,我不能放弃骑自行车的自由。)”可知,作者骑自行车是为了享受出行的自由。故选D项。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。由文章第三段“My world shrunk as my blindness grew worse. Luckily, I had a good sense of direction, allowing me to visualize neighborhood routes. This skill could be an advantage when working with a dog.(随着失明的加剧,我的世界缩小了。幸运的是,我有很好的方向感,可以想象出附近的路线。与狗一起工作时,这项技能可能是一个优势。)”以及上文可知,作者听到叔叔的建议时不知道说什么,因为她一直很害怕狗,但是这句话在她的脑子里种下了一个养狗的念头,她觉得这个建议值得一试。故选A项。 由第四段“One day, I phoned my friend Robert, a longtime guide dog user in my town. He shared his positive experiences. Somehow, his words convinced me to give it a try.(有一天,我打电话给我的朋友罗伯特,他是我镇上一位长期使用导盲犬的人。他分享了自己的积极经历。不知怎么的,他的话说服了我试一试。)”可知,作者打电话给好友罗伯特,因为他养了很长时间的导盲犬,所以作者向他咨询。故选D项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。由文章最后一段“As my guide dog Misty and I bonded, my shoulders relaxed. Uncle Fred’s advice moved my sense of joy from my bike to my dog.(当我和导盲犬米斯蒂亲密接触时,我的肩膀放松了。 D On a windy day, 40 middle-school students stand by the Harlem River in New York City. Their teacher, Mr. White, pulls a metal cage out of the river. Inside are clusters of oysters (牡蛎). The last time they were here, the oysters were babies. The students’ job is to measure how much the oysters have grown and test the river water for pollutants. They will report their findings to researchers at the Billion Oyster Project (BOP). Why work so hard? To make the city’s waterways healthy again. Oysters are important for the underwater community they share with plants, fish, and other life. So they are also called a keystone species. If a keystone species disappears, other plants and animals may die out. That’s exactly what happened 100 years ago in New York Harbor. Before then, lots of oysters lived here. The oysters were delicious — maybe too delicious. By the early 1900s, people were eating them faster than they could grow. The oysters were in trouble for another reason. Pollution was pouring into the waters of the growing city, and few types of animals could live in it. Since the 1970s, new laws have helped reduce toxic(有毒) waste. Some fish started to swim through again. But oysters were still missing — until recently. The BOP began in 2014 to help bring oysters back to New York Harbor. So far, students and volunteers have placed about 25,000,000 oysters into the harbor. “The oysters definitely look much bigger now,” says a student named Kelly. Taking turns, the kids measure all the oysters, then compare notes. The biggest oyster is over 2 inches long, much bigger than a healthy size for its age. As more oysters grow, the water should become clearer. Also, other animals should move in. Finally, the students put the oysters back in the cage. Mr. White lowers it into the river. When the oysters are big enough, they will be moved to the middle of the harbor. For today, everyone agrees: the future is looking bright for New York Harbor. 32. Why are oysters called a keystone species? A. They grow quickly. B. They are delicious. C. They support underwater life. D. They are able to resist pollution. 33. What was the problem with oysters over a century ago? A. A period of disappearance. B. Over- consumption by people. C. Lack of clean and safe habitat. D. Competition with other species. 34. What’s the goal of the Billion Oyster Project? A. To grow more oysters. B. To collect useful data. C. To protect water plants. D. To restore waterways. 35. What may be the future outlook for New York Harbor? A. Promising. B. Uncertain. C. Disappointing. D. Unchanged. C 33. B 34. D 35. 根据第三段“Oysters are important for the underwater community they share with plants, fish, and other life. So they are also called a keystone species. (牡蛎对它们与植物、鱼类和其他生物共享的水下群落至关重要。因此,它们也被称为关键物种)”可知,牡蛎被称为关键物种是因为它们支持水下的生态。故选C项。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“The oysters were delicious— maybe too delicious. By the early 1900s, people were eating them faster than they could grow.( 牡蛎很好吃——也许太好吃了。到20世纪初,人们吃它们的速度超过了它们的生长速度)可知,牡蛎深受食客的喜爱而被过度捕捞。故选 B。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“The BOP began in 2014 to help bring oysters back to New York Harbor.(该BOP项目始于2014年,目的是帮助将牡蛎带回纽约港)”以及第六段“As more oysters grow, the water should become clearer.(随着越来越多的牡蛎生长,水应该会变得更清澈)”可知,Billion Oyster Project的目标是修复水道。故选D项。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“For today, everyone agrees: the future is looking bright for New York Harbor.(今天,每个人都同意:纽约港的未来是光明的)”可知,纽约港未来是光明的。故选A项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) Why is a compliment so impactful? One of the most important things to humans is to feel valued and respected by others, says Vanessa Bohns, a social psychologist, who has researched compliments. According to her research, people feel “significantly better” after both giving and receiving a compliment. ____36____ “You handled that situation so well.” Bohns recently used her favorite compliment when she saw a server address a difficult situation with a customer at the bar. “I like it so much because you use it in anxious moments where the other person is often unsure of whether they handled a situation OK,” she says. In situations that call for a compliment, don’t second-guess yourself. Give your compliments generously. ____37____ That concern is unfounded. “____38____” This compliment — one of Bohns’ favorites — works well among romantic partners and close family members. “It’s a beautiful way to highlight how their presence turns life into something meaningful, despite boring routines of our everyday lives,” she says. If you’re afraid that giving a compliment like this will feel strange, you’re not alone. ____39____ If it makes you personally feel like the bar is lowered for you to give a compliment if you write it down, or if you practice saying it out loud or giving your pet cat the compliment first, do that. “Hey, great dress!” Feel free to compliment strangers. In Bohns’ research, students on a college campus were told to approach a stranger of the same gender and compliment them-about, for example, their nice shirt. Before heading out, the study participants tended to underestimate their positive effect while overestimating how annoying it would be. Across all contexts, strangers are more likely to be pleased than confused. Plus, who knows? ____40____ A. I love the way you bring out the best in people. B. Respect is essential when you deliver compliments. C. One way to overcome this fear is to do a practice run. D. You make even ordinary moments feel extraordinary. E. You might make a new friend in addition to making someone’s day. F. With that in mind, we asked her to share some of her favorite compliments. G. People sometimes worry that they’re going over and will start to sound insincere. 【答案】36. F 37. G 38. D 39. C 40. E 【解析】 【导语】本文是说明文。文章主要通过引用社会心理学家Vanessa Bohns的研究和观点,来阐述赞美的重要性和如何有效地给予赞美。 【36题详解】 设空位于首段段尾,应是承接上文,引出下文的作用,根据前文“Why is a compliment so impactful? One of the most important things to humans is to feel valued and respected by others, says Vanessa Bohns, a social psychologist, who has researched compliments. According to her research, people feel “significantly better” after both giving and receiving a compliment.(为什么赞美有这么大的影响力? 【37题详解】 根据前文“In situations that call for a compliment, don’t second-guess yourself. Give your compliments generously.(在需要赞美的情况下,不要怀疑自己。慷慨地赞美别人)”以及后文“That concern is unfounded.(这种担心是没有根据的)”可知,前文讲述慷慨的赞美别人,后文讲述一种担心,所以空处应是提出一种担心,所以G项“People sometimes worry that they’re going over and will start to sound insincere.(人们有时会担心自己说得过了头,听起来会不真诚)”符合文意。故选G项。 【38题详解】 分析设空,为本段小标题,是凡妮莎·博恩斯最喜欢的赞美,根据后文“This compliment—one of Bohns’ favorites—works well among romantic partners and close family members. “It’s a beautiful way to highlight how their presence turns life into something meaningful, despite boring routines of our everyday lives,” she says.(这是博恩斯最喜欢的赞美之一,在恋人和亲密的家庭成员之间很管用。她说:“这是一种美丽的方式,突显了他们的存在如何让生活变得有意义,尽管我们的日常生活很无聊。”)”可知,这个赞美适合浪漫伴侣和亲密的家庭成员之间使用,强调对方的存在如何使生活变得有意义,所以D项“You make even ordinary moments feel extraordinary.(你让平凡的时刻变得不平凡)”符合文意。故选D项。 【39题详解】 根据前文“If you’re afraid that giving a compliment like this will feel strange, you’re not alone.(如果你害怕这样的赞美会让你觉得奇怪,那么你并不孤单)”以及后文“If it makes you personally feel like the bar is lowered for you to give a compliment if you write it down, or if you practice saying it out loud or giving your pet cat the compliment first, do that.(如果你把赞美的话写下来,或者你先练习大声说出来,或者先赞美你的宠物猫,这会让你觉得赞美的门槛降低,那就去做吧)”可知,空格需要提供一个克服这种担忧的方法,所以C项“One way to overcome this fear is to do a practice run.(克服这种恐惧的一个方法是进行练习)”与这个语境非常吻合,它直接回应了前文的担忧,并提供了后文所描述的建议。故选C项。 【40题详解】 设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“Feel free to compliment strangers. Plus, who knows?(你可以随意赞美陌生人。在博恩斯的研究中,大学校园里的学生被要求接近一个同性陌生人并赞美他们——比如,赞美他们漂亮的衬衫。在出发之前,研究参与者往往低估了他们的积极影响,而高估了他们会有多烦人。在所有情况下,陌生人更容易感到高兴而不是困惑。另外,谁知道呢?)”可知,E项“You might make a new friend in addition to making someone’s day.(除了让别人开心之外,你还可能交到一个新朋友)”与这个语境非常吻合,描述了赞美陌生人可能带来的社交好处,是对前文方法的总结。故选E项。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 When I was 12, I went on a 720-mile cycling trip with my brother and father. At first, I and my cousins were a little scared, because we didn’t know how to handle that little tender baby. My aunt eventually helped us out. She took it and kept it just as her baby. She fed it, she gave it occasional showers and eventually we became quite comfortable with it. Now there was another dilemma (困境) that we had — as we were not really aware of its gender (性别) we were unable to decide a name for the parrot. So finally my mom called it Mitthu. We agreed. As it was growing, its wings started growing long, but my family was too possessive (占有欲强的) and caring towards Mitthu that they trimmed (修剪) its wings. They said if it flew, it wouldn’t be able to survive outside. As time went by, we grew, so did Mitthu...It had by now started talking quite a lot...I was amazed by the way my aunt cared for it. She fed it anything and everything they had before eating. Mitthu was never kept in a cage from the beginning...it is still not kept in a eage... at first its wings were trimmed to protect it...but now as it has grown quite a lot, even its wings are not trimmed... I sometimes wonder, it has the whole sky to fly, it is neither in a cage nor its wings are trimmed, then why isn’t it flying at all? Maybe it is now quite attached to us and doesn’t want to leave us, or maybe it doesn’t want to leave this comfortable life and go away and face the hard reality of life. The answer may be anything, depending on how we view the situation. But as I grew older, I realized that the life of Mitthu is not really very different from that of mine. I was cared too and thus was protected from really getting along with outside world. I made my house my world, just as it was taught to me. I guess so did Mitthu. The comfort of my hope became, and I guess Mitthu’s as well, the invisible chain that never actually will let us fly. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡相应位置作答。 I guess not just I, but most of the girls feel the same. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The parrot flew today. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: I guess not just I, but most of the girls feel the same. We are afraid of flying. We are afraid we might hurt our parents’ feelings. We are afraid we might end up hurting them if we take our own decisions. How similar our lives are! I and Mitthu might be two different beings but trapped in a similar situation. The baggage of feelings, emotions and attachment will never really allow us to fly independently! The parrot flew today. It finally freed itself in true sense. Everyone at home is sad. My cousins have stopped eating, and they are continuously crying. Maybe they are not old enough to understand the true meaning of freedom so they are unable to understand Mitthu and are sad at losing it. But I am happy for Mitthu. I wish to get the equal courage soon. Dear parents, it’s good to love and protect your child. But sometimes overprotectiveness might harm their future, and it might influence their decisions in future. So now the parrot is really free! 伤害:hurt/damage/harm ②.被困:be trapped in/be stuck in ③.大哭:cry/burst into tears 情绪类 ①.害怕的:afraid/scared/frightened ②.伤心的:sad/heart-broken/sorrowful 【点睛】[高分句型1]. 27. Which of the following can be the best title to the text? A. Saving Water in Africa B. Fighting Poverty in North Africa C. Holding back the Sahara D. Planting Trees in Tunisia C Hearing the speeding cars passing us, I had to focus on the sound of my uncle’s bicycle leading the way. 29 How did the author react to her uncle’s suggestion? D On a windy day, 40 middle-school students stand by the Harlem River in New York City. Since the 1970s, new laws have helped reduce toxic(有毒的) waste. D. Unchanged. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) Why is a compliment so impactful? 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 When I was 12, I went on a 720-mile cycling trip with my brother and father. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式答题卡相应位置作答。 I guess not just I, but most of the girls feel the same. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The parrot flew today. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
