Unit 1 Animal friends 课外阅读 Passage 1 Ella was scared when she saw a large, fuzzy (毛茸茸的) bumblebee (大黄蜂) outside her back door. One day, she wanted to play outside, but the bee was flying around the patio (门廊), making figure-eights (八字形飞行) with its wings. Ella stepped outside carefully, but the bee flew toward her and hovered (盘旋) just inches from her nose. She crouched down, hiding her face and crying, "Don't sting me!" To her surprise, the bee spoke: "I am a guard bee." Ella forgot her fear and asked what it was guarding. The bee explained it was protecting her, not keeping her away. Ella decided to walk slowly toward her swing set,but the bee followed. Ella said she wished the bee wouldn't follow her, and the bee replied that it wished people weren't so afraid of bees. Just then, a big dog with a frayed (磨损的) rope around its neck ran into the yard, barking loudly at Ella. The dog lunged at her, but the guard bee stung it on the nose. The dog sat down, whimpering (呜咽), and the bee warned it to go home. The dog ran away, and Ella thanked the bee. The bee flew off to gather pollen (花粉) from daisies. From that day on, Ella treated bumblebees as friends. 问答题: 1. Why was Ella scared when she saw the bumblebee? Answer: Ella was scared because she thought the bee might sting her. 2.
