Knowing that our own bodies may be wired to prefer a certain time of day is certainly a relief. But many of us still have to wake up and function during those first daylight hours. So what can you do? We tapped a variety of experts - from sleep experts to nutritionists to life organizational pros (生活管理达人) — to share their tricks on how to make morning less stressful and more pleasant for even the most after-hours of night owls 1. Night waking Poor sleep quality can explain why we sometimes wake up from eight hours of snoozing and feel like we only clocked in at four. “It’s normal to have one or two awakenings, but more than that leaves us feeling groggy (昏昏沉沉) in the morning because of the fragmented sleep,” explains Shelby Harris, director of the behavioral sleep medicine program at Montefiore Medical Center. 2. The Science of snoozing The snooze button does more harm than good. Nodding off again sends you into a light and fragmented sleep! Multiple snoozes can leave you feeling groggier than just getting out of bed the first time. Instead, be honest about the time you intend to get up and then enjoy every last minute of sleep, so you can wake up alert and ready to go. 3. Don’t ease into your workday It can be tempting to plow through the easy things early on—checking e-mail, scanning the headlines—but it’s wise to tackle the bigger stuff first. “Getting to work on the most important tasks not only ups the chances that they actually get done, but it also leaves you with a burst of accomplishment to take with you the rest of the day,” says Jason Selk, coauthor of Organize Tomorrow Today. 4. Save social media for later Schedule a social media block later in the afternoon to check in when you’re likely to need a break anyway, and save the morning for the important stuff. 1. What’s the purpose of the passage? A. To help us to get the most out of our mornings. B. To relieve us from the guilt of multiple snoozes in the morning. C. To warn us of the harm of not getting out of bed immediately. D. To inform us about the fact that our bodies are wired to prefer a certain time of day. 2. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A. One or two awakenings ensure us a good night’s sleep. B. To be an early bird, better forget about the snooze button. C. It’s important not to block social medium if you want to save your morning. D. Beginning a day with easy things aroused our interest and a sense of accomplishment. 3. Where can we find the passage? A. Classified Advertisement B. Travel Brochure C. Life and Study D. Scientific Journal 【答案】1. A 2. B 3. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。短文介绍了如何让人们早晨的压力更小、更愉快,以便更能充分利用早晨。 【1题详解】 推理判断题。文章第二段讲到“to share their tricks on how to make morning less stressful and more pleasant for even the most after-hours of night owls (分享他们的诀窍,如何让即使是最晚下班的夜猫子也能减轻早晨的压力,让早晨更愉快)”可知,这篇文章的目的是帮助我们充分利用早晨。故选A。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。文章The Science of snoozing讲到“The snooze button does more harm than good. Nodding off again sends you into a light and fragmented sleep (小睡按钮弊大于利。再次打瞌睡会让你进入一种轻微的、支离破碎的睡眠)”可知,打盹按弊大于利最好不要小睡。所以B选项“作为一个早起的人,最好忘记打盹的按钮。”正确。故选B。 【3题详解】 推理判断题。短文介绍了如何让人们早晨的压力更小、更愉快,以便更能充分利用早晨。文章第二段讲到“But many of us still have to wake up and function during those first daylight hours. We tapped a variety of experts – from sleep experts to nutritionists to life organizational pros (但我们中的许多人仍然必须在最初的白天醒来并正常工作。我们聘请了各种各样的专家—从睡眠专家到营养学家,再到生活组织专家)”可知,所以这篇短文是关于生活,工作和学习类的短文。故判断出我们可以在“生活和学习”中找到这篇短文。故选C。 B Before I came to the United States years ago, I had thought that culture separated people, but I have realized now that cultures are closer than we know. In the United States, there are certainly more differences than similarities when comparing it to my country. An amazing aspect of culture is the food produced. I’ve always been a foodie (美食家). When I was hungry, there were many foreign signs of restaurants, but deciding which one was a difficult task. I remember reading the sign for “Chipotle” and I had no idea what was served there. Who would ever have imagined that an experience as simple as trying new food would produce thoughts of cultures? I find it truly beautiful that each culture brings different spices and tastes to the table. I have tried wonderful foods from all sorts of cultures. Each is very unique and atmospheres are also quite interesting and culturally affected. Although the food may taste different, preparation can be somewhat consistent (一致的). Many of the foods I have tasted have had similar mechanisms of cooking (烹饪机制). Here in the United States, it can be somewhat difficult to express all of my culture, mainly because there are many different cultures here. But I have found common ground on these matters and have learned to adapt (适应)to different cultures. I have learned how to live in two cultures. I’m not saying it’s easy, I’m not saying that it’s extremely hard, but it’s all about balance. Each person has their own culture. Life has too many things to care. The theory of “When in Rome, do as the Romans do” is very applicable in most situations. Throughout my experiences here, I have certainly learned a lot about others. Culture is something different to many people but in the end, it connects all of us. Cultures bring others together to create new and exciting situations. 4. What does the author learn about culture after coming to the United States? A. Culture separates people. B. Culture is from local food. C. Culture is closer than he knows. D. Food is the culture that unites people. 5. What made the author confused about American food? A. The choice of proper food. B. The ways of serving food. C. The different tastes of food. D. The methods of food production. 6. What does the author find beautiful about different cultures? A. Each culture has unique atmosphere. B. Preparation methods of food are similar across cultures. C. All foods from different cultures taste the same. D. Each culture brings different tastes to the table. 7. How does the author feel about living in two cultures? A. Difficult. B. Beneficial. C. Awkward. D. Unpleasant 【答案】4. C 5. A 6. D 7. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是记叙文。作者以自己在异乡的经历告诉我们如何在不同的文化中生活。 【4题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“Before I came to the United States years ago, I had thought that culture separated people, but I have realized now that cultures are closer than we know.(在我几年前来到美国之前,我曾认为文化将人与人分开,但现在我意识到,文化比我们所知道的更紧密)”可知,文化之间的联系比我们所了解的更紧密。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“When I was hungry, there were many foreign signs of restaurants, but deciding which one was a difficult task.(当我饿的时候,有许多外国餐馆的标志,但决定哪一家是一项艰巨的任务)”可知,关于美国的食物,让作者感到困惑的是如何在众多餐馆中选择适合自己的食物。故选A。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“I find it truly beautiful that each culture brings different spices and tastes to the table.(我发现每一种文化都给餐桌带来了不同的香料和口味,这真的很美)”可知,不同的文化带来不同种类的食物。故选D。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Throughout my experiences here, I have certainly learned a lot about others. Culture is something different to many people but in the end, it connects all of us. Cultures bring others together to create new and exciting situations.(通过我在这里的经历,我当然也学到了很多关于别人的东西。文化对许多人来说是不同的,但最终,它将我们所有人联系在一起。文化将其他人聚集在一起,创造出令人兴奋的新局面)”可知,作者认为生活在两种不同的文化环境中是有益的。故选B。 C Think about the last time you did something that you found difficult. Was it working out a puzzle or working hard on your math homework? Can you remember the expression you had on your face? Most people will press their lips together and frown (皱眉) when they are doing something they find difficult. This is normally seen as a sign of effort. Now we’ve found that it can also say more than that. A recent study at the University of Portsmouth in England suggests that the human expression of effort and frustration is our way of asking others for help. Scientists at the university gave children and chimpanzees (黑猩猩) an impossible puzzle to work out. When the children couldn’t work out the puzzle, their faces expressed determination and effort. The chimpanzees’ did not. Humans and chimpanzees have many facial expressions that share the same meaning. A human smile is the same as a chimpanzee showing its teeth in happiness. Scientists believe that over time, humans have evolved to use this facial expression to ask for help. We have also learned to respond to it by offering help. According to Dr. Albert Mehrabian, a well-known professor of psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles, only 7% of human communication happens through words and 55% is through body language. Therefore, understanding expressions is second nature to human beings. With this in mind, next time you see a person with a frustrated expression, listen to your heart and stop to lend them a hand. 8. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. Frowning. B. The expression. C. Something difficult. D. A sign of effort. 9. According to the recent study, people’s expression of effort or frustration tells others that ________. A. they need help B. they can do things themselves C. they will give up D. they want to be alone 10. What can we learn from the study? A. Scientists gave the chimpanzees an easy puzzle. B The chimpanzees smiled as they worked out the puzzle. C. The chimpanzees’ face didn’t show determination or effort. D. The chimpanzees used other expressions to ask for help. 11. Which of the following may Dr. Albert Mehrabian agree with? A. Body language is very important in human communication. B. People don’t like to use words to communicate. C. Human expressions are not a kind of body language. D. Words can’t help much in communication. 【答案】8 B 9. A 10. C 11. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要讲述了人们在做困难事情时的表情所传达的信息,以及与黑猩猩的表情对比,同时提到了肢体语言在人类交流中的重要性。 【8题详解】 词义猜测题。根据文章第二段“Can you remember the expression you had on your face? Most people will press their lips together and frown(皱眉)when they are doing something they find difficult. This is normally seen as a sign of effort. (你还记得你脸上的表情吗?大多数人在做他们觉得困难的事情时,都会抿紧嘴唇和皱眉。这通常被视为努力的表现)”可知上文提到了脸上的表情,可推理出划线词“it”指的是“表情”。故选B项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“A recent study at the University of Portsmouth in England suggests that the human expression of effort and frustration is our way of asking others for help.(英国朴茨茅斯大学最近的一项研究表明,人类努力和挫折的表情是我们向他人寻求帮助的方式)”可知,人们努力或沮丧的表情告诉别人他们需要帮助。故选A项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第四段“When the children couldn’t work out the puzzle, their faces expressed determination and effort. The chimpanzees’ did not.(当孩子们解不出谜题时,他们的脸上表现出决心和努力。黑猩猩没有)”可知,从研究中我们可以了解到黑猩猩的脸没有显示出决心或努力。故选C项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章倒数第二段“According to Dr. Albert Mehrabian, a well- known professor of psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles, only 7% of human communication happens through words and55% is through body language.(据加州大学洛杉矶分校著名心理学教授阿尔伯特·梅拉比安博士称,人类交流只有7%是通过语言进行的,而55%是通过肢体语言进行的)”可推知,阿尔伯特·梅拉比安博士可能会同意肢体语言在人际交往中非常重要。故选A项。 D Online English has become a common language for users from around the world. In the process, the language itself is changing. There are now thought to be some 4.5 billion web pages worldwide. Some language experts predict that within 10 years English will occupy the internet — but in forms very different to what we accept and recognize as English today. That’s because people who speak English as a second language already outnumber native speakers. And increasingly, they use it to communicate with other non-native speakers, particularly on the Internet where less attention is paid to grammar and spelling and users don’t have to worry about their accent (口音). Users of Facebook already socialize in a number of different “Englishes” including Indian English, Spanish English and Korean English. While these different styles have long existed within their cultures, they’ re now expanding and coming online. Technology companies are introducing newly-developed English words with products aimed at enabling users to add words that are not already in the English dictionary. And most large companies have English websites, while smaller businesses are learning that they need a common language — English — to reach global customers. The increasing popularity of the internet allows more languages to develop quickly. “Most people actually speak several languages — it’s less common to only speak one,” says Mr. Munro. “English has taken its place as the world’s common language, but it’s not pushing out other languages.” Instead, other languages are pushing their way into English, and in the process creating something new. 12. What does the text mainly talk about? A. There are now many different language styles. B. English is a common language around the world. C. English language is developing with the Internet. D. Smaller businesses are learning a common language. 13. Which of the following is NOT true about online communication? A. Grammar is not so important. B. People need to spell accurately. C. People do not care about their accent. D. Most English-speakers are not native speakers. 14. What can we infer from the text? A. We can only communicate online in English. B. Smaller businesses are not allowed to have English websites. C. It’s impossible to find all the English words in the dictionary. D. Some technology companies start to publish English dictionaries. 15. What can we learn from what Mr. Munro said? A. Other languages are enriching English. B. Chinese used to be the world’s common language. C. English will become the only language in the world. D One can’t live well without speaking several languages. 【答案】12. C 13. B 14. C 15. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要讲述了互联网英语已经成为来自世界最普通的语言,同时英语也在发生着变化。 【12题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“Some language experts predict that within 10 years English will occupy the internet-but informs very different to what we accept and recognize as English today.(一些语言专家预测,在10年内,英语将占据互联网,但与我们今天接受和认可的英语信息大不相同。)”和最后一段“Instead, other languages are pushing their way into English, and in the process creating something new.(相反,其他语言正在推动进入英语,并在此过程中创造新的东西。)”可知,文章主要介绍英语随着网络在发展。故选C。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“particularly on the internet where less attention is paid to grammar and spelling and users don’t have to worry about their accent.(特别是在互联网上,对语法和拼写的关注较少,用户不必担心他们的口音。)”可知,在网络交流中人们不需要准确地拼写。故选B。 14题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Technology companies are introducing newly-developed English words with products aimed at enabling users to add words that are not already in the English dictionary.(科技公司正在推出新开发的英语单词,其产品旨在使用户能够添加尚未在英语词典中出现的单词。)”可知,不可能在字典里面找到所有的单词。故选C。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段的“Instead, other languages are pushing their way into English, and in the process creating something new.(相反,其他语言正在推动进入英语,并在此过程中创造新的东西。)”可知,Mr. Munro 认为其他语言正在丰富英语。故选A。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Survive Senior High School Life Anxious about Senior High School (SHS) life? ___16___ . You should share your voice.” Even though Ms. Shelly encouraged him, the thought of speaking in front of an audience still made him scared. As the contest day neared, Max concentrated on writing a speech about perseverance (毅力). He practiced every day in front of a mirror, each practice building up his confidence yet increasing his anxiety. What if he forgot his lines? What if he stumbled? These worries troubled him. Knowing that our own bodies may be wired to prefer a certain time of day is certainly a relief. But many of us still have to wake up and function during those first daylight hours. So what can you do? We tapped a variety of experts - from sleep experts to nutritionists to life organizational pros (生活管理达人) — to share their tricks on how to make morning less stressful and more pleasant for even the most after-hours of night owls. 1. D To inform us about the fact that our bodies are wired to prefer a certain time of day. 2 Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? Scientific Journal B Before I came to the United States years ago, I had thought that culture separated people, but I have realized now that cultures are closer than we know. A. Difficult. B. Beneficial. C. Awkward. D. Unpleasant C Think about the last time you did something that you found difficult. B. The chimpanzees smiled as they worked out the puzzle. D Online English has become a common language for users from around the world. “Most people actually speak several languages — it’s less common to only speak one” says Mr. D. One can’t live well without speaking several languages. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Survive Senior High School Life Anxious about Senior High School (SHS) life? ___16___ . His teacher, Ms. Shelly, always believed in him, often saying, “Max, your words can inspire change. On the morning of the contest, the school lecture hall was noisy. Max arrived early, watching his classmates speak confidently. While waiting backstage, the sound of applause (掌声) made his stomach tighten. “You can do this,” he whispered to himself, but he was starting to doubt himself. 续写要求: 1. 续写词数应为80左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 When it was his turn, Ms. Shelly called, “Max, you’re up!” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1-5 CBBAA 6-10BCCAB 11-15CACAB 16-20AABCB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
