Parrots are prey animals, which means that other predators (in the wild, such
as hawks or snakes, are looking to make them into a meal. This one factor influences parrots'
behavior in your house more than any other.
Parrots are most easily hurt when feeding on the ground.Membership in a group plays
an important function in ensuring their safety and improving their chances of survival from
attacks by predators. The most common predators of parrots include hawks, snakes, cats,
monkeys, and bats. Some predators make attacks only during the day while others hunt in
the night.
As prey animals, parrots are constantly watching out for danger and they instinctively
(react to risks.Their first choice is to take flight. However,if this is not possible,
they will fight with their powerful beaks to defend themselves.
Because their biggest enemy is the hawk, parrots are especially reactive to quick
movements from above and behind. For this reason,it is wise to avoid quick, sudden
movements near your bird. This is a built-in reaction not subject to logic or reason.Simple
and relatively harmless household objects can draw extreme fear responses from a bird. For
example,a balloon may represent a hawk or a vacuum hose(吸尘器软管)may be the same
as a snake in your bird's mind.
As prey animals, parrots are often frightened by exposure to new household items or
strangers. It is important to expose your bird to safe experiences and changes starting at a
very young age to build flexibility and improve their adaptability.Variety in diet and toys,
travel, and exposure to new people and places all help to make your bird more flexible and
adaptable to change.
28.What is important for parrots to better survive from attacks in the wild?
A.Living in a group.
B.Growing beautiful feathers.
C.Feeding on the ground.
D.Avoiding coming out at night.
29.What is parrots'first response to an immediate risk?
A.To attack back.
B.To get away.
C.To protect the young.
D.To play dead.
30.Why would a balloon frighten a parrot?
A.It may explode suddenly.
B.It may be in a strange shape.
C.It may have a strong color.
D.It may move around quickly.
高二英语试卷第6页(共12页)
31.What is the author's purpose of writing the text?
A.To explain wild parrots'behavior.B.To give advice on raising a parrot.
C.To call for action to protect animals.D.To introduce a study on bird ecology.
D
A new study predicts nearly 75%of us will face extreme weather in 20 years."In the
best case,we predict that rapid changes will affect 1.5 billion people,"says physicist Bjorn
Samset from Norway. This lower estimate would only be reached by reducing greenhouse
gas emissions(排放)in a large degree一something that is yet to occur..
Otherwise, climate scientist Carley Iles and her colleagues'modeling finds that if we
continue on our current course, these dangerous changes will hit 70 percent of the Earth's
population.Their modeling also suggests that much of what's to come is already locked in.
Samset advises preparing for unexpected extreme events in the next 1-2 decades
We've already lived through examples of these extremes.Data from Europe's climate
service Copernicus shows Earth just had its hottest Northern Hemisphere summer on record.
The Southern Hemisphere has been experiencing a record-breaking warm winter too. This
global temperature increase has brought with it fatal fires, floods, storms, and droughts that
are destroying crops and leading to increasingly widespread hunger, creating favorable
conditions for the spread of more diseases as well."Like people living in a war zone with
the constant sounds of bombs and guns,we are becoming deaf to what should be alarm bells,"
says climate scientist Jennifer Francis.
With extreme emissions cuts we can reduce some of these impacts, but this will cause
some regions more immediate issues too."While cleaning the air is critical for health
reasons, air pollution has also masked some of the effects of global warming,"explains
professor Laura Wilcox from England."But not acting means these worsening weather
extremes will likely impact most of us within the very near future."
"These conclusions emphasize the need for both continued mitigation (and
adaptation to potentially unexpected changes over the next 20 years even under a
low-emissions condition,"writes Iles.
32.What can help to reduce the impact of extreme weather changes?
A.Building more disaster prevention projects
B.Reducing greenhouse gas emissions to a great extent.
高二英语试卷第7页(共12页)
C.Increasing the use of renewable energy sources
D.Improving early warning systems for extreme weather.
33.Why are people getting deaf to extreme weather?
A.As a result of social and economic pressures.
B.Because of the media's over-reporting of extreme weather.
C.Because people have experienced so many weather extremes.
D.Due to improved technology that can better predict extreme weather.
34.What does the author imply in the last paragraph?
A.The side effects of emission cuts.
B.The benefits of global cooperation.
C.The serious situation of the future climate changes.
D.Other measures to slow down climate change.
35.Which of the following can be the best title?
A.What to do with disasters
B.Preparing for extreme weather.
C.Measures to reduce emissions.
D.How to fight against extreme events.

Dear Michael,
How are you? These days, I am planning to travel abroad during the vacation.
I think traveling abroad is very meaningful. First, traveling abroad can broaden my horizons. When I
visit a foreign country, I can learn more about the customs and history of the country. At the same time, I
can make lots of friends. Besides, communicating with the local people will give me the chance to learn a
foreign language. The most important thing is that I can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Michael, please come to China when you are free. I do hope you can witness the great changes in
China. Best Wishes!
Yours truly,
Li Hua
第二节 满分 25 分
Led into a studio, I stood before the microphone. It was beyond my expectation that I was eventually
given an opportunity. Despite feeling at a loss for the requirement, I was determined to grasp this precious
chance. Suddenly it occurred to me that I watched a magnificent game last autumn in my college. In no
time I began. I was completely absorbed in my announcement until I saw Peter, who folded his arms before
his chest, signal to me to stop.
Peter reached out his hands to me, smiling enthusiastically. Then he said I was hired. I stared at him,
mechanically uttering words of gratitude and promised he would not regret later. Bidding farewell to my
new boss, I was in seventh heaven and could not wait to rush home and share the good news with my
parents. Surely mom was right when she told me that something good wouldn’t have happened if not for
that previous disappointment. That was definitely the reason why one must carry on.
