Sometimes two couples go out together. This is called a double date. It’s double because there are two couples. When you make a date with someone and then you can’t go, we say you break a date. Breaking a date means you cancel the date. And finally, who pays on a date? Well, sometimes the man does, sometimes the woman pays. But often each person pays for their own food and entertainment. Lewis, 74, began working at the Dorset resort when he was 16. “It’s the best job in the world,” he said. “You’re working and helping people. What could be better?” His colleagues were just half his age. But he is still fighting fit. Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeguards must complete a 400m pool swim in under 7.5 minutes. They have to do a 25m pool swim underwater and a 25-metre surface swim consecutively in under 50 seconds and run 200m along the beach in under 40 seconds. The tests are still reasonably comfortable for Lewis. All winter he has been doing 3,000 metres of sea swimming each month. Lewis’s adventure began in 1965 when a police officer spotted that he was a keen swimmer and suggested he get his lifesaving badges. The following year he began volunteering as a lifeguard at the age of 16. Then he became part of the RNLI lifeguards in 2001 and began providing beach patrols for local authorities. Now the RNLI patrols more than 240 beaches across the UK. Lewis laughed when asked if he had seen many changes. “The RNLI’s equipment in 2024 includes jetskis, rescue boats and quad bikes. When I started, we had a T-shirt, swimming trunks, a swimming hat, a coat if you were lucky and a rescue tube. It was really very different.” His most memorable rescue took place in 2010 when three children got into trouble while swimming. There was a combination of wind and a lively spring tide. One of them was being hurled into a rock with severe cuts. The other two were being “knocked around” by the waves. Lewis swam out just with a rescue tube but managed to get all three back. Over the years, he has performed hundreds of rescues. He says giving advice that prevents people getting into trouble is preferable to carrying out rescues. “I would love to go through the whole of summer without having to rescue anybody.” 24. Why is the training of RNLI mentioned? A. To explain the importance of swimming skills. B. To stress Lewis’s efforts and capacity. C. To show demands of being a safeguard. D. To describe the test process of fitness swimming 25. What made Lewis begin his life-saving career? A. His voluntary experience. B. His passion for swimming. C. An invitation from RNLI. D. A police officer’s suggestion. 26. What can be inferred from Lewis’s words in Paragraph 4? A. RNLI cares for the safety of lifeguards. B. RNLI currently needs more lifeguards. C. Lifeguard work was not easy in the past. D. The former lifeguards were more skilled. 27. Which of the following best describes Lewis? A. Devoted and caring. B. Selfless and honest. C. Determined and humorous. D. Generous and ambitious. B 25. D 26. C 27. 根据第二段中“Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeguards must complete a 400m pool swim in under 7.5 minutes. They have to do a 25m pool swim underwater and a 25-metre surface swim consecutively in under 50 seconds and run 200m along the beach in under 40 seconds. The tests are still reasonably comfortable for Lewis. (皇家国家救生艇协会(RNLI)的救生员必须在7.5分钟内游完400米泳池。他们必须在50秒内完成25米的水下游泳和25米的水面游泳,并在40秒内沿着海滩跑200米。这些测试对Lewis来说还算轻松。)”和“All winter he has been doing 3,000 metres of sea swimming each month. (整个冬天,他每个月都要进行3000米的海游。)”可知,此处提到RNLI的训练是为了强调Lewis的努力和能力,尽管他已经74岁,但仍然能够轻松完成这些训练。故选B项。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Lewis’s adventure began in 1965 when a police officer spotted that he was a keen swimmer and suggested he get his lifesaving badges. (Lewis的冒险始于1965年,当时一名警察发现他是一名游泳爱好者,并建议他获得救生徽章。)”可知,是一名警察的建议让Lewis开始了他的救生生涯。故选D项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中Lewis的话“The RNLI’s equipment in 2024 includes jetskis, rescue boats and quad bikes. When I started, we had a T-shirt, swimming trunks, a swimming hat, a coat if you were lucky and a rescue tube. It was really very different. (2024年,RNLI的装备包括水上摩托、救生艇和四轮摩托车。当我开始的时候,我们只有一件T恤、游泳裤、游泳帽,如果你幸运的话还有一件外套和一个救生圈。这真的很不一样。)”可知,Lewis通过对比现在的装备和他开始时的装备,暗示了过去的救生工作并不容易,因为装备非常简陋。故选C项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中Lewis的话“It’s the best job in the world,” he said. “You’re working and helping people. What could be better? ( 他说:“这是世界上最好的工作。你在工作,同时在帮助别人。还有什么比这更好的呢?”)”以及最后一段中“Over the years, he has performed hundreds of rescues. He says giving advice that prevents people getting into trouble is preferable to carrying out rescues. (多年来,他进行了数百次救援。他说,给出防止人们陷入困境的建议比进行救援更好。)”可知,Lewis非常热爱他的救生工作,致力于帮助他人,并且非常关心他人的安全。因此,用“Devoted and caring (全心全意且关爱他人)”来形容他最恰当。故选A项。 C Lighthouse parenting is a modern approach that is becoming increasingly popular among parents. This style, raised by Dr. Ken Ginsburg, stresses a balance between guiding children and allowing them to make their own decisions. The name comes from the idea that parents should be like a lighthouse — available to offer support and guidance when needed, but not constantly intervening in their children’s life. Unlike helicopter parenting, which focuses on controlling and protecting the child from every possible mistake, lighthouse parenting not only provides love, guidance, and boundaries (边界), but also allows children to learn through their own experiences and mistakes. This approach helps children develop resilience (适应力) and problem-solving skills, making them better prepared for adulthood. One of the key principles of lighthouse parenting is maintaining open communication with children. Parents are encouraged to engage in conversations with their children, listen to their concerns, and provide advice when necessary. This creates a favorable environment, where children feel confident and loved, knowing their parents are always there for them, but not controlling their every move. The popularity of lighthouse parenting is growing because many parents are seeking a balanced approach to raising their children. There is an overwhelming amount of information available to parents today, and it can be difficult to know what to follow. Lighthouse parenting offers a practical solution, promoting a healthy, low-pressure environment for both parents and children. Children raised in this style can become healthy, functional adults, as they were given the tools to be independent, to understand the world, and to be well-adjusted. They aren’t scared of making mistakes and also take responsibility for them. Their parents are also less burnt out, as they are able to take a step back and be there for their children more in the background. With ongoing communication and love and support always there when needed, this parenting method seems to tick all the boxes when it comes to promoting a harmonious and enjoyable parent- child relationship. It is an environment where both children and parents can well develop and enjoy their relationship for years to come. 28. What do parents do in lighthouse parenting? A. They focus more on experiences than study. B. They intervene in their children’s life when necessary. C. They protect their children from every possible mistake. D. They set strict boundaries of amusements. 29. What makes lighthouse parenting increasingly popular? A. Parents’ desire for a balance in raising children. B. The limited access to parenting information. C. The stress faced with children. D. Parents’ expectation of raising a perfect child. 30. What can we know about children raised in lighthouse parenting? A. They will fit in easily. B. They will perform well academically. C. They show great curiosity about the outer world. D. They tend to be especially popular. 31. What would be a suitable title for the text? A. The Importance of Balanced Parenting B. The Disadvantages of Helicopter Parenting C. How to Raise Independent and Resilient Children D. The Benefits of Lighthouse Parenting 【答案】28. B 29. A 30. A 31. 根据第一段“Lighthouse parenting is a modern approach that is becoming increasingly popular among parents. Human noise pervades the environment, from vehicles and industry in busy urban centers, to planes flying overhead, to ocean-going ships, which could be related to stranded (搁浅的) whales, as the noise that comes from ships could cause the animals to lose their sense of direction. Reviewing a series of studies, Hansjoerg Kunc and Rouven Schmidt said the issue should be seen as the “majority of species responding to noise, rather than a few species being particularly sensitive to noise.” “The interesting finding is that the species included range from little insects to large marine mammals such as whales,” Kunc said. “We did not expect to find a response to noise across all animals species.” The paper said that an animal’s response to human noise is not necessarily straightforward, and cannot be easily seen as positive or negative. Man-made noise, for example, has been shown to interfere with the sound detection systems that bats use to find food, making it more difficult for the flying mammals to catch insects. But that may be good news for the bugs: “Potential prey (猎物) may benefit directly from man-made noise,” the paper said. Kunc cautioned, however, that the big picture is still one of serious disruption across the natural environment. “In the bat example, the bats might suffer because they cannot locate their prey...but in species where potential prey animals rely on sound to detect killers, the prey animals might suffer because they might not be able to hear them early enough to escape.” Human sound pollution and the animal response to it must be seen in the context of an ecosystem. “Noise must be considered as a serious form of environmental change and pollution, as it affects all species,” they said. 32. What can we learn about human noise from the passage? A. Only a few species are sensitive to it. B. It is responsible for stranded whales. C. It can seriously damage the natural environment. D. It prevents flying mammals from catching their prey. 33. The underlined word in the second paragraph could be replaced by “____”. A. spreads over B. depends on C. loses interest in D. makes fun of 34. From the passage we know that ____. A. noise affects insects more than mammals B. man-made nose only a few specie C. prey benefits most from man-made noise D. both bats and prey could suffer from human noise 35. The goal of the author is to ____. A. explain why whales become stranded B. make us aware of the dangers of human noise C. emphasize the positive effects of human noise D. Call for the protection of the natural environment 【答案】32. C 33. A 34. D 35. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了人类噪音对动物的影响,强调噪音应被视为一种严重的全球污染物。 【32题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“Human noise pervades the environment, from vehicles and industry in busy urban centers, to planes flying overhead, to ocean-going ships, which could be related to stranded whales, as the noise that comes from ships could cause the animals to lose their sense of direction.(人类噪音充斥着环境,从繁忙城市中心的车辆和工业,到头顶飞过的飞机,再到远洋船只,这些都可能与搁浅的鲸鱼有关,因为船只发出的噪音可能会使这些动物失去方向感) ”和最后一段中“Kunc cautioned, however, that the big picture is still one of serious disruption across the natural environment. (然而,昆克警告说,更大的图景仍然是整个自然环境都受到了严重破坏) ”可推知,人类噪音会对自然环境造成严重破坏。故选C。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段“Human noise pervades the environment, from vehicles and industry in busy urban centers, to planes flying overhead, to ocean-going ships, which could be related to stranded whales, as the noise that comes from ships could cause the animals to lose their sense of direction. (人类噪音pervades着环境,从繁忙城市中心的车辆和工业,到头顶飞过的飞机,再到远洋船只,这些都可能与搁浅的鲸鱼有关,因为船只发出的噪音可能会使这些动物失去方向感) ”可知,此处是指噪音充斥着这些环境,pervade意为“遍布、充斥”。A. spreads over遍布;B. depends on取决于; C. loses interest in对……失去兴趣;D. makes fun of取笑。故选A。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“Man-made noise, for example, has been shown to interfere with the sound detection systems that bats use to find food, making it more difficult for the flying mammals to catch insects. But that may be good news for the bugs: “Potential prey (猎物) may benefit directly from man-made noise,” the paper said. (运用了which引导非限制性定语从句) 第二节 67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Ever get the feeling that you’ re your own worst enemy? That’s how I felt when I saw a WeChat acquaintance (熟人) inviting people to join her newly organized book club. Normally, I’d close the app — I’m not the sort of person who talks with strangers, even over a shared love of reading. However, in a burst of optimism, I sent her a message and agreed to show up. Fast-forward to the night of the book club, which found me parked outside a complete stranger’s house with a copy of Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun also Rises in hand. I didn’t want to get out of the car. My positive attitude had disappeared. Why had I agreed to hang out with people I had never met before? Blame it on science: I learned from experts that connecting with strangers and finding a community would make me happier. At least, I was sure it would once I got out of the car. The world is full of successful extroverts (性格外向者): presidents, queens, sports heroes and talk-show hosts like Oprah. Me? I’m an introvert who has tried to become the life of the party since my teenage years. Or, at least, pretend to be. Since my children are nearly grown and that I’m approaching the second half of my life with fewer friends than I wanted, I knew I had to make a change. Rather than giving in to my hermit (隐士) ways, I decided to set a goal: learn what it takes to become more extroverted. In other words, I had to do the thing I feared the most — I had to talk with strangers. Having a conversation with someone you don’t know doesn’t seem like it would improve your life, but those first awkward steps can result in relationships that feed your soul in surprising ways. 注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Then I took a deep breath and stepped out of the car. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As the evening went on, I found myself engaged in lively discussions. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Then I took a deep breath and stepped out of the car. My heart raced with each step forward. As I approached the front door, I could hear laughter coming from inside. I hesitated for a moment, considering going back. But I reminded myself of my goal. With a mix of anxiety and excitement, I rang the doorbell. The moment I was welcomed in, the warmth of the room and the smiles of the other attendees made my fears fade away. I held my book tightly, but when introductions began, I slowly relaxed. As the evening went on, I found myself engaged in lively discussions. We exchanged thoughts on Hemingway’ s themes, laughed over shared experiences, and discovered common interests. I was surprised at how easily the conversations flowed. Each connection I made was like a small victory, helping me overcome my fear of interacting with new people. At the end of the night, I left not only with new friendships but also with new-found confidence. I realized that stepping out of my comfort zone was not just about overcoming fear; it was also about embracing the joy of connection that I had longed for. 词汇激活 行为类 ①心跳加速:race/pound ②消失:fade away/disappear ③克服:overcome/get over 情绪类 ①兴奋:excitement/thrill ②惊讶的:surprised/astonished 【点睛】[高分句型1] As I approached the front door, I could hear laughter coming from inside.(由连词as引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2] I was surprised at how easily the conversations flowed.(由连接副词how引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 南昌中学2024—2025学年度上学期期末考试 高二英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. 【此处可播放相关音频,请去附件查看】 What does the man mean? The Benefits of Lighthouse Parenting D It is well known that human noise can have a negative impact on some animals, but a new study says the noise we make should be treated as a “major global pollutant.” “We found that noise affects many species,” scientists at Queen’s University Belfast said in the Royal Society’s Biology Letters. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
