What if the only way of getting news from faraway friends was writing letters that took ages to be delivered? This was how things worked not very long ago. Thanks to advances in technology, how we make friends and communicate with them has changed significantly. Nowadays, we can move around the world and still stay in touch with the people that we want to remain friends with. Social media tools let us see what our friends are up to and maintain friendships. All you need is a wi-fi connection. The digital age also enables us to find people who share our interests, such as collecting model cars or playing an unusual instrument. Whatever our hobbies, the Internet can connect us with others who also enjoy doing them, even if they live on the other side of the world. But when you “friend” people online, does this mean that they really are your friends? It depends. If people always exchange true personal information online, then yes, these friendships can be real and meaningful. But we need to keep in mind that what we see on social media is often not the whole truth about a person. On social media sites, people tend to post only positive updates that make them appear happy and friendly. But smiling photos can hide real problems. Remember the saying: on the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog. A young person could be old; a woman could be a man; we could even be sharing our information with criminals. But this doesn’t mean that we should throw the baby out with the bathwater. Although technology has changed the way we acquire friends, the meaning of friendship and our longing for friends remain the same. As Aristotle said, no one would choose to live without friends, even if he had all other goods. 21. What does the phrase “up to” in paragraph 2 most probably mean? A. Referring B. Intending(打算) C. Proving D. Doing 22. What enables us to find people with the same hobbies throughout the world nowadays? A. The digital cameras. B. The Internet. C. The telephones. D. The televisions. 23. Which of the following is true according to the passage? A. You can't make real friends online. B. Not what we see on social media is all true. C. Real friends online often change personal information. D. All people post only good things on social media sites. B Many animals move from one place to another at certain times of the year. This annual movement is called migration. They migrate to find food, seek a partner, or in search of warmer weather. One of the most wonderful migrations in nature is that of the North American monarch butterfly. Every autumn, millions of these beautiful insects with fine black and orange wings begin a long and difficult journey. Somehow they manage to travel around 4,000 kilometres south and find their way to California or Mexico. However, until recently no one knew how they did this. A team of scientists led by Professor Eli Shlizerman at the University of Washington has now found the answer. They have found out that the monarch is able to tell the time of day. It uses its eyes to measure the position of the sun. These two pieces of information — the time of day and the point where the sun is in the sky — allow the butterfly to determine the way to go. Eventually, it manages to reach the places where it will spend the winter. The solution to the mystery of the monarch’s amazing ability comes at a time when it is in serious trouble. Its population has crashed by as much as 90 per cent in the last few years. Sadly, human activity is the main reason why the number of monarch butterflies is falling. In many of the places where the butterfly can be found, people are destroying the natural environment. They cut down trees and use chemicals that kill the plants that monarch caterpillars eat. The research on the monarch’s behaviour has however led to a greater awareness of this creature. People have been working together to record its migration and make sure that there are enough plants for it to feed on. If this works, there may come a time when the number of monarch butterflies increases once again. The more we know about this lovely creature, the greater the chance it will survive and keep its place in the natural world for a long time to come. 24. What can we learn about the North American monarch butterflies from para. 2 and para 3? A. Every two years they will migrate to spend the winter. B. They have ugly black and orange wings. C. Now people have known how they manage to travel such a long distance. D. They manage to travel around 4,000 kilometers north and find their way to places where they will spend the winter. 25. What will probably happen to the North American monarch butterfly if it is cloudy? A. It may lose its way. B. It can’t see anything. C. It can’t find any food. D. It will feel very cold. 26. What does the word “crash” in Para.4 mean? A. Succeed B. Fail C. Increase D. Drop 27. Where are you most likely to find the passage? A. In a scientific research paper. B. In a popular nature magazine. C. In a travel leaflet. D. In a science fiction(小说). C As a nature photographer, I have to brave the elements. But despite the wind and the rain, I still enjoy working outside in the wild. One of the best things about this job is that you can observe animals in their natural environment. My favourite place to take photos is Yellowstone National Park. As the world’s first national park, Yellowstone is famous for the variety of its wildlife, but it is probably best known for its bears. These huge, strong animals can live for 30 years. Despite a weight of up to 300 kilograms, they can run at a speed of around 64 kilometres per hour and are also excellent swimmers. Last spring in Yellowstone, I followed a path that took me through a dark forest. When I finally stepped out of the trees, the view was breathtaking. An eagle flew over the snow-capped mountains, which were reflected in the still lake below. While I was concentrating on photographing this amazing scene, I suddenly had a feeling that I was being watched. Slowly, and with the camera still held to my eye, I turned... and froze. Only meters away from me was a bear. With water falling off its thick, brown hair, the bear stared back at me. Time stood still as the bear and I both waited to see who would move first. My legs started shaking. Somehow, I forced my finger to press the button. A second later, the bear turned and ran back into the forest. When I recovered from the shock, I looked at my camera. My most frightening but magical experience was now captured forever in a single image. From time to time I look at the photo as a reminder to show respect to all animals. It is after all we who are the visitors to their world. 28. What do we know about Yellowstone National Park? A. It is where the author most likes to go. B. It is famous for all kinds of trees. C. It has wet bears and eagle everywhere. D. It is a dark forest with a long path. 29. How do we know about the author's getting the photo of the bear? A. The author designed the scene ahead(提前). B. The bear did the action for him. C. The bear stood still before him. D. The author got it quite by accident. 30. Which word can best describe the author's feeling when the bear stared back at him? A. Scared. B. Excited. C. Thankful. D. Respectful. 31. What is the passage mainly about? A. Working outside in the wild B. Photos taken in Yellowstone National Park C. An unforgettable experience in the wild D. A photo taken with a brown bear D In the 13th century. Marco Polo the world known Italian travelled saw many wonderful things in China. One of the things he discovered was money made of paper. People in the West did not have such kind of money until the I5th century. However, the Chinese began to use it in the 7th century. Paper was invented by a Chinese man called Cai Lun almost 2,000 years ago, but it was not made in Europe until the year I 100. Four hundred years later, a German discovered that he could make the best paper from trees. After that, countries rich in forests, such as Canada Sweden, America and Finland became the most important ones in paper making. Paper can be used in many ways. The common uses include newspapers magazines and books. But do you know that paper can be used for keeping warm? In Finland, the farmers wear paper boots to keep their feet warm in the snow. And even houses can be insulated(使绝缘)from heat or cold with paper. However, we have to understand that paper still comes from trees now. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth some day in the near future. Every day people throw away about 2, 800 tons of paper in our city. It takes 17 trees to make one ton of paper. This means that we are cutting down nearly 48,000 trees every day. The fact is that it takes more than 10 years for a tree to grow. So we must start saving paper right now. We can use both sides of every piece of paper. We can make useful things out of used paper. We can use china cups instead of paper ones. When shopping, we can use fewer paper bags and reuse them if we have some In short, we should keep a balance (平衡)between using paper and protecting trees, and do it now before it is too late. 32.When did the Chinese begin to use paper money? A. In the 5th centum B. In the 6th century C. In the 7th centum D. In the 15th century 33.Why did Canada become an important country in paper making? A. Because it was a large country B. Because it had lots of forests C. Because it was a very rich country D. Because the inventor was from Canada 34.In Finland, paper is used for . A. making beds B. reducing waste C. making umbrellas D. keeping warm 35.According to the passage, how many trees are needed to make one ton of paper? A. 10 B. 17. C. 2,800 D. 48,000 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 People set goals for their lives. Perhaps you want to lose weight, learn a new skill or read 30 books a year. But then you get busy and your daily life takes up all of your time. Before you know it, weeks, then months have gone by and you are no closer to your goal. (36) 1. Make a specific plan Adding details to your plan helps you act better. Be sure to add when and where. If your goal is to work out five days each week, a plan like "I'll work out on weekdays" would be too vague. But a careful plan like "I'll work out at the gym on weekdays when I'm on my lunch break" would be just right. (37)    For example, if you plan to work out during lunch, you'll be sure to refuse a lunch invitation from others. 2. Consider punishment This may sound difficult, but ensuring you'll face some punishment if you don't achieve your goal can work wonders. One easy way to do this is to tell a few people about your goal. You'll feel ashamed if they check back later and find out you haven't followed through. Feeling ashamed is a kind of spiritual punishment. You can also make a bet with a friend that you'll stick to your goal. (38) 3. Make it fun Most of us concentrate on the final result when it comes to achieving our goals. (39)    Are you enjoying the process of working to you goal? If it's not fun to exercise or study, you're unlikely to keep at it. But if you get happiness from your works or study, you'll persist longer. It's the pursuit of your goals — not the reaching of them — that makes up the weeks, days and hours of our lives. So make sure to have fun along the way! 4. Get a little help from your friends Spending time around high achievers can improve your own performance. If your aim is to run a marathon(马拉松) or write a book, you'd be clever to start hanging around friends who've made it to the finish line and can show you how it's done. You'll learn a lot just by spending time together with these friends. (40)    Giving your friends tips on how to achieve improve your self-confidence and motivate you to succeed. A. There is proof that giving cash as a punishment can encourage people to succeed. B. It can also help you avoid interruptions(打断). C. Helping friends who have the same goals also make you more likely to succeed. D. Who could you ask for help? E. If you want to keep doing it, try the following ways. F. But focusing too much on it can make us ignore a more important thing. G. Friends are aware of your strengths and weaknesses. 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 For my 56th birthday, my daughter Beth bought me two beautiful wooden butterflies. Starting in the Yuan Dynasty, work on the terraces took years, until its 57 (complete) in the early Qing Dynasty. Reaching as far as the eye can see, these terraces cover tall mountains, often from the bottom to the very top. So why did these people go to so much trouble 58 (turn) the entire mountains into terraces? 59 (first), there are few large, flat areas of land in 60 region. 61 (build) the terraces therefore meant that they could increase the areas in which they could grow rice. Secondly, although the region has plenty of rain, the 62 (mountain) are steep and the soil is shallow. The flat terraces catch the rainwater and prevent the soil 63 being washed away. But perhaps what is most significant is the way in which people have worked in harmony 64 nature to make these terraces and grow rice. The terraces are cleverly designed, with hundreds of waterways 65 connect with each other. 第三节 (共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分) 在空白处填入1个适当单词或括号内单词的正确形式。 66. He was really worried because he had a speech(演讲) problem. In the past, his old classmates often laughed at him because of it. Luckily, Katherine, Jack's science teacher in the new school, quickly saw why Jack was so nervous and didn't want to speak in class. She decided to help him. Whenever Jack had trouble speaking, this kind teacher would give him an encouraging smile and say, “You are so great!” The teacher hoped that with her encouragement, Jack could get the confidence. But unfortunately, all her efforts didn't work. One day in class, Katherine said that every student had to stand in front of the class and give their answer to a question in their own special way. When Jack heard this, that familiar fear and worry came back. He kept thinking about how he could stand in front of his classmates and explain his answer clearly. He was also worried that his classmates would laugh at his speech problem again. He just sat there, watching his classmates go up to the front one by one. Most of them did their speech smoothly(顺利地) and went back to their seats with big smiles. But Jack was so nervous while waiting for his turn to come(轮到他), it felt like he was sitting on needles(针). 注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Finally, his turn came. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When Jack finished his speech, everyone in the room started to clap(鼓掌). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共12页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 景博高中2024-2025学年高一年级第一学期英语期末考试 答案 第一部分:1~5 CABCB 6~10 ACABC 11~15 BBCAA 16~20 BABAB 第二部分:21-23 DBB 24-27 CADB 28-31 ADAC 32-35 CBDB 36-40 EBAFC 第三部分:篇章语法填空: 41-45 BACDB 46-50 CABDC 51-55 BCDCB 56. were built 57. completion 58. to turn 59.Firstly 60.the 61. What's more, exposed to the cultural festival, I gained knowledge about the local culture. How amazing! Words fail me when I try to show how grateful I am. Thank you so much! Best wishes! Yours, Li Hua 作文二: Finally, his turn came.Jack's knees were knocking as he walked to the front. His mind went blank for a moment, but then he remembered Katherine's countless kind words. He forced himself to focus on the task. As he started speaking, his voice was barely above a whisper, yet he continued. Midway, he stuttered on a complex term, and his face flushed. But glancing at Katherine's unwavering support, he found the strength to correct himself. Slowly, his voice grew louder and steadier. When Jack finished his speech, everyone in the room started to clap. Tears welled up in Jack's eyes. He couldn't believe it; the applause was deafening. His classmates rushed forward to pat his back and offer words of praise. Katherine came up and gave him a big hug, whispering, “You surpassed yourself, Jack.” From that day, Jack actively participated in class. Whenever he felt scared, he'd recall that moment of triumph. He learned that with a little courage and a lot of support, any hurdle could be overcome. 1.What is the woman going to do this evening? 第 4 页/共 12 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 But when you “friend” people online, does this mean that they really are your friends? Somehow they manage to travel around 4,000 kilometres south and find their 第 5 页/共 12 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 way to California or Mexico. 第 6 页/共 12 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 C As a nature photographer, I have to brave the elements. 第 7 页/共 12 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 A. Scared. B. Excited. C. Thankful. D. Respectful. 第 9 页/共 12 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 4. 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分 40 分) 第一节(共 15 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 15 分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 For my 56th birthday, my daughter Beth bought me two beautiful wooden butterflies.
