today?
W: My dad’s car broke down, so I lent him my bike to get to work.
Text 5
W: Mrs Fors, thank you for your great presentation! I'd like to know what we can do to prevent natural
disasters.
M: Well, there's no way to prevent earthquakes and storms. But if we prepare, we can keep them from
becoming disasters that kill or injure people. To be ready, we should make a safety list of what to do,
where to go, and who to contact.

W: There are 23 senior high school students from seven countries.
M: Why is the project here at Mount Tai?
W: [12] Well, as you know, Mount Tai is one of the most famous mountains in China. The mountain and
the temples have been protected for over 3,000 years, so it's a great example of how people preserve
their cultural heritage. We feel so proud to have a chance to do something.
M: Tell me about the app you're making.
W: [13] We want to promote Mount Tai; that is, we want to tell teenagers in other countries about the
mountain and Chinese culture. The app teaches teenagers about Mount Tai and even has a few
games about cultural relics.
M: Oh, that's a clever idea.
Text 9

more than enough for us.
M: Good thinking! And the neighborhood seems quiet, which is a big plus. Also, there is a park nearby
where we can have a walk after meals.
W: Yes, and the supermarket is close enough to walk to. It would be so convenient for us.
M: Exactly. [16] And did you see the parking space? It’s big enough for both our cars.
W: I feel like this house really meets our needs. I don’t think we need to keep looking.
M: Agreed. [17] I’ll call the owner and let them know we’re ready to buy the house.
Text 10
W: As this poster shows, between 150 and 200 species die out every day. So Someone has to speak up
for endangered animals. Some famous people, such as Chinese superstar Yao Ming and Britain's
Prince William, work hard to help. In October 2015, Prince William gave a moving speech on
CCTV: “In the 33 years since I was born, we've lost around 70 percent of Africa's elephant
population. Of those that are left, 20,000 are killed every year. That is 54 elephants killed every
single day." That means there are elephants which are being killed right now! In his speech, [19]
Prince William also praised China's efforts to protect wildlife: “I am absolutely convinced that
China can become a global leader in the protection of wildlife." You don't have to be Prince William
or Yao Ming to speak up and do something about endangered animals. [20] You can be the voice of
wildlife protection in your area. Remember: Change begins with you!

Since farmers began digging up ancient bone pieces in the fields around the Yellow
River in eastern China over 100 years ago, researchers have been studying the script(
found on them. But up until now script study has been a task that requires a lot of
time and effort.
"A piece of oracle bone (may have been recorded several times.Because these
recordings are different in how clear and complete they are,a lot of work is needed to
relate, compare and explain them,"said Yubin Jiang,a researcher from Fudan University.
"In the past, this responsibility fell only on the shoulders of researchers with rich experience
and excellent memory, but their research only led to accidental findings."
Now researchers in Beijing are using AI to speed up the basic but necessary work of
comparing each script sample with thousands of others in databases ()This work
helps researchers understand them better and sheds light on everything from the daily
concems of people in ancient times to how Chinese writing first developed.
The AI model, named Diviner, was developed by professor Bofeng Mo and senior
researcher Zhirong Wu.In November 2022,within one week, the Diviner project compared
181,134 script samples across 100 databases. It not only found tens of thousands of exact
copies that people had already identified, but also discovered more than 300 new pairs. Now
Diviner has managed to complete this work more quickly.
This is just the first step.
"The job now is to clean the data and recover the data to the original form by joining
small pieces to the original big one,"said Wu.With.this,they hope to move on to the final
challenge-understanding the meaning of these characters, which could have important
effects on different fields."To archaeologists, they are the cultural remains of humans. To
historians, they are the historical material of the Shang Dynasty. To language
researchers, they are the earliest system of Chinese characters,"said Mo.
31.What do we know about the script study?
A.It started just a few years ago.
B.It has been a long and tiring task.
C.It has been completed successfully.
D.It was mainly carried out by farmers.

A.The study in the past was not scientific enough.
B.The skilled researchers made great achievements.
C.The researchers didn't have to spend so much time.
D.The recordings of oracle bones made the study easy.
33.What does the underlined phrase "sheds light on"in paragraph 3 mean?

Learning a new language is an exciting but challenging journey. There are several
difficulties that language learners often face.
Complex Grammar
Different languages have their own unique grammatical rules.
36
For
example,in English, the order of words in a sentence is important for expressing the correct
meaning. However,in Japanese or Russian, the word order can be more flexible ()
This difference can make it difficult for learners to form correct sentences and express
themselves accurately(准确地).
高一英语一7一(共12页)
Pronunciation Challenges
Each language has its own set of sounds. For example, the French "r"sound or the
German "u"sound can be extremely difficult for English speakers to pronounce
correctly. What's more, the stress of a language can also affect the meaning of a word or a
sentence.
37
Limited Vocabulary
Building a large enough vocabulary is necessary for effective language learning.
38
Some languages have a great number of words.Besides, many words may have
several meanings or small differences that are difficult to understand. For example,in
Chinese,a single character can have different meanings depending on the context.
Cultural Differences
39 Idioms(习语),proverbs,(谚语),and expressions in a language often
show the culture and history of the people who speak it.For example, the English idiom "it's
raining cats and dogs"may not make sense to a learner who doesn't know much about
Western cultures.
Few Chances to Practice
Learners need regular chances to practise speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
However, they may not be able to meet native speakers or stay in a language environment.
40 For example,if a person is learning a language that is not widely spoken in
their country,it may be challenging to find practice partners or language learning resources.
A.Language is closely related to culture.
B.It can be difficult to find chances to practise speaking.
C.Mistakes in pronunciation can lead to misunderstandings.
D.Learning a new language can be a worthwhile experience.
E.However, learning new words can be a slow and hard process.
F.This can make it difficult for them to improve their language skills.
G.They can be extremely different from those of a learner's native language.
