B When I was six, a new family moved into the house next door. There was a girl, Frances, who was about my age. We became best friends soon. I was too young to notice what was really going on in her life, but my mother did. Mom noticed that Frances never invited anyone into the rooms they lived in. Her mother went off to work very early in the morning and came back looking very tired. And her two older brothers wore dirty clothes and were never at home. Frances was always hungry and her clothes were often too small. Mom never mentioned anything to me. But she once asked, “Would you mind if I give Frances some of your clothes?” I agreed. Frances seemed very thrilled. Mom began to spend more time with Frances and me. She and I had always done kitchen jobs together, but now the three of us were making biscuits and washing up together. Frances was always willing to help, as long as Mom was there. And sometimes they would just sit together and talk while I was off doing something else. That routine (日常事物) continued until we were both teenagers. But then her mother decided they were moving back to Ireland. We promised to write to each other. One day, my mom called to say that a letter from Frances had arrived. “When I was four, my father died. My mother tried to make money. She ignored me. Your mom saved me. Without her love and attention, I would never have survived (渡过难关) my childhood. I have used your mother’s example as my guide to care for people around me.” My mother taught me many things, but this was her most valuable lesson. Watching her example and seeing the life-changing results were powerful. We will never know how or when our acts of kindness will influence others, but it’s always better to try. 4. What do we know about Frances’ family from Paragraph 2? A. They were unhappy to come to a new place. B. They tried hard to avoid their neighbors. C. They cared little about each other. D. They lived a very difficult life. 5. What does the underlined word “thrilled” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Proud. B. Excited. C. Calm. D. Confident. 6 What does the author try to show through the fourth paragraph? A. Frances was a good helper. B. Frances was used to the routine. C. Frances got on well with the author’s mom. D. Frances was good at doing kitchen jobs. 7. What can be the best title for the text? A. Teaching by example B. Lifelong friends C. My mom’s life D. Being brave to try C On my first days teaching, I was a little nervous, but my students proved friendly as we introduced ourselves. During our fourth meeting, I found myself trying to explain to them the difference between empathy (同感) and sympathy (同情). I hoped they heard me and that I didn’t sound like a boring teacher talking to myself. “Pull out a piece of paper, and write about an uncomfortable situation where you were in the minority (少数),” I said. This was a writing exercise, but it was also my lesson plan for encouraging understanding. “Maybe you were in the minority because of your opinions, your race, your ability or inability to speak a language or understand the culture of a place, ” I continued. “Write about an incident which made you feel uncomfortable because you felt you were different. ” Soon, my students bent over their desks, except Javier. From earlier writings, I learned that he came from Puerto Rico to the United States to play basketball specially. Suddenly, Javier asked, “What if you feel like that all the time? ” The entire class came to attention and laughed. Maybe they couldn’t see the seriousness in his eyes. When all pencils were down, my students shared their stories. They listened to one another carefully. As they shared their memories, I saw that they had taken the lesson to heart. I noticed when these teenagers found something interesting, they would sometimes say it was “a trip”. For my students, the word meant that something was cool enough to catch their attention. I hoped these students thought my class was a trip. 8. What did the author do according to the third paragraph? A. She gave advice on what to write. B. She made plans for writing class. C. She put forward some writing methods. D. She explained the difficulty in writing. 9. What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 4 refer to? A. Being sympathetic. B. Being different. C. Being serious. D. Being unsure. 10. What did the students learn from the writing task? A. Empathy and sympathy are quite different. B. Understanding each other is important. C. Trying to be different needs courage. D. Unpleasant things always happen. 11. Why did the author hope her students considered her class as a trip? A. She wanted to take them somewhere interesting. B. She wanted to let them learn from life journey. C. She wanted to share her journey with them. D. She wanted to introduce the world to them. D The first typewriters were big heavy metal machines that worked a bit like a piano. Have you ever seen the inside of a real piano? You press a key and some levers (杠杆) make a small tool inside hit just the right piano string (弦) to make a note. Early typewriters were similar. They had all these levers with a metal letter at the end of it. You had to press a letter key quite hard to make the metal lever fly across and hit the paper. The first machine did have the letter keys in the order of the letters we learn. But the trouble was that if you hit two keys quickly the levers would jam (卡住). Jams were most likely when the two keys were close together on the keyboard. Christopher Sholes, an American inventor, succeeded in dealing with the problem. He tried many ways to avoid the need to type two keys that were close together. The best way he could find was similar to the QWERTY keyboard we all use today. Sholes also made the name of his machine easy to type. He placed on the same line all the letters of the words “type” and “writer”. He sold his invention to the Remington Company which built and sold the first successful typewriters. Later, many other kinds of the letter keys have been tried. Some are said to be easier to learn or use. But none has proved good enough to beat QWERTY. QWERTY was developed for the English language. The keyboard slightly differs around the world. For example, AZERTY is commonly used for French, QWERTZ for German, and QZERTY for Italian. Perhaps you can find someone from India, Japan, or Korea. Ask them to show you the keyboard they use in their language. 12. What’s the author’s purpose in writing Paragraph 1? A. To show how the piano influenced the typewriter. B. To explain the typewriter is different to the piano. C. To tell why the typewriter was invented. D. To explain how the typewriter worked. 13. Why did Christopher Sholes change the order of the letters on the keyboard? A. To make people type quickly. B. To help people remember it easily. C. To solve the letters’ jamming problem. D. To put frequently used letters together. 14. What do we know about the QWERTY keyboard according to Paragraph 4? A. It’s better than other keyboards. B. It still needs to be improved. C. It met with doubt from the very beginning. D. It made the Remington Company successful. 15. What’s the man idea of the last paragraph? A. The keyboard is changing over time. B. The word “QWERTY” is out of date. C. The QWERTY keyboard is very popular. D. The keyboard changes with some languages. 第二节(共5小题;每小题 2. 5 分,满分 12. 5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项. 选项中有两项为多余选项。 Grammar is an aspect (方面) of language about which learners have different opinions. ___16___ Others think it is the most boring part of learning a new language. Frances was always hungry, and her clothes were often too small. 4. Frances was always hungry, and her clothes were often too small.(她妈妈一大早就出门上班,回来时看上去疲惫不堪。她的两个哥哥穿着脏衣服,还总是不在家。Frances总是饿着肚子,她的衣服也常常小得不合身)”可知,Frances的妈妈工作辛苦,哥哥们穿着脏衣服,Frances总是饿着且衣服不合身,这些都表明他们一家生活很艰难。故选D。 【5题详解】 词义猜测题。根据文章第二段“Her mother went off to work very early in the morning and came back looking very tired. And her two older brothers wore dirty clothes and were never at home. Frances was always hungry, and her clothes were often too small.(她妈妈一大早就出门上班,回来时看上去疲惫不堪。她的两个哥哥穿着脏衣服,还总是不在家。Frances总是饿着肚子,她的衣服也常常小得不合身)”可知,Frances的衣服太小,家庭生活很艰难;再根据划线单词上文“But she once asked, “Would you mind if I give Frances some of your clothes?” I agreed.(但有一次她问我:“要是我把你的一些衣服给弗朗西丝,你介意吗?”我同意了。)”可知,作者的妈妈打算送一些作者的衣服给Frances。由此可推测,对于生活条件不好的Frances来说,能得到衣服是一件开心、令人兴奋的事。选项B“excited”意为“兴奋的”,与此相符。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“Mom began to spend more time with Frances and me. She and I had always done kitchen jobs together, but now the three of us were making biscuits and washing up together. Frances was always willing to help, as long as Mom was there. And sometimes they would just sit together and talk while I was off doing something else.(妈妈开始花更多时间和我还有Frances在一起。以前我和妈妈总是一起做厨房的活儿,但现在我们三个一起做饼干、洗碗。只要妈妈在,Frances总是很乐意帮忙。有时候,我去做别的事,她们俩就会坐在一起聊天)”可知,作者的妈妈花更多时间和Frances在一起,她们一起做各种事,还会一起聊天,这些都表明Frances和作者的妈妈相处得很好。故选C。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章最后一段“My mother taught me many things, but this was her most valuable lesson. Watching her example and seeing the life-changing results were powerful. We will never know how or when our acts of kindness will influence others, but it’s always better to try.(母亲教会了我许多东西,但这是她传授的最宝贵的一课。 A。 C On my first days teaching, I was a little nervous, but my students proved friendly as we introduced ourselves. 【答案】8. A 9. B 10. B 11. (写一件让你感到不舒服的事,因为你觉得自己与众不同)”可知作者让学生写因为感觉自己与众不同而不舒服的事情,接着Javier问“What if you feel like that all the time? ”这里的“that”指代的就是前文提到的“感觉自己与众不同”,故选B。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段““Pull out a piece of paper, and write about an uncomfortable situation where you were in the minority (少数),” I said. This was a writing exercise, but it was also my lesson plan for encouraging understanding. (“拿出一张纸,写一个你属于少数人的不舒服的情况,”我说。这是一个写作练习,但也是我鼓励理解的课程计划)”和最后一段“When all pencils were down, my students shared their stories. They listened to one another carefully. As they shared their memories, I saw that they had taken the lesson to heart. (当所有的铅笔都放下后,我的学生们分享了他们的故事。他们彼此认真地听着。当他们分享他们的回忆时,我看到他们已经把这一课牢记在心)”可知作者让学生写自己处于少数派时不舒服的经历,目的是鼓励理解,并且收到很好的效果。即学生们从这节课学到了相互理解是非常重要的。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“I noticed when these teenagers found something interesting, they would sometimes say it was “a trip”. For my students, the word meant that something was cool enough to catch their attention. (我注意到,当这些青少年发现有趣的事情时,他们有时会说这是“一次旅行”。对我的学生来说,这个词的意思是某样东西很酷,足以吸引他们的注意力)” 可推知作者希望学生能从她的课上学到东西,像从生活旅程中学习一样,觉得课程有趣且有收获。故选B。 D The first typewriters were big heavy metal machines that worked a bit like a piano. 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. A 15. ( 第一代打字机是大型的重金属机器,工作起来有点像钢琴。你见过真正钢琴的内部吗?你按下一个键,里面的杠杆,正好敲击钢琴的琴弦来产生音符。早期的打字机也是类似的工作原理)”可知,作者写第一段的目的解释早期打字机的工作原理。故选D项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“But the trouble was that if you hit two keys quickly the levers would jam (卡住). Jams were most likely when the two keys were close together on the keyboard.(但问题是,如果你快速按两个键,杠杆就会卡住。当键盘上的两个键靠得很近时,最有可能出现卡壳)”以及第三段“Christopher Sholes, an American inventor, succeeded in dealing with the problem. He tried many ways to avoid the need to type two keys that were close together. (美国发明家克里斯托弗·肖尔斯成功地解决了这个问题。他尝试了许多方法来避免键入两个靠得很近的键)”可知,克里斯托弗·肖尔斯改变了键盘上字母的顺序是为了解决堵塞问题。故选C项。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“Later, many other kinds of the letter keys have been tried. Ask them to show you the keyboard they use in their language. Grammar is an aspect (方面) of language about which learners have different opinions. ___16___ Others think it is the most boring part of learning a new language. Whatever opinion you have, however, you cannot avoid grammar. Here is some advice on learning grammar. ___17___ Notice the aspects of English grammar that are the same as or very similar to those in your language. Notice the way that English expresses an idea differently to how it is done in your language too. If you notice grammar similarities and differences, you will probably learn the rules more quickly. Read a lot of English books. ___18___ It will help you when you express your ideas and when you come to check your work. Pay attention to the most difficult aspects of grammar for you. You can pay special attention to these aspects when writing. ___19___ However, you can sometimes take a little more time to try when speaking and get these aspects of grammar right. Being good at grammar exercises does not mean you will not make mistakes in your own work. You could be like someone who has learned how to play tennis by reading a book, but once he is on the tennis court, he can’t hit the ball properly. If you decide to do grammar exercises, try to go beyond just filling in blanks or doing multi-choice answers. ___20___ A. Think about grammar. B. Some learners are very interested in it. C. It is more difficult in speaking, of course. D. You should try to work out rules of the language for yourself. E. They are easy to learn if you say them to yourself many times. F. Write out some sentences that follow the same rule you are practicing. G. When you are reading English books, you are taking in models of correct grammar. 【答案】16. B 17. A 18. G 19. C 20. F 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇应用文。文章介绍了学习语法的一些建议。 【16题详解】 空格前的句子“Grammar is an aspect (方面) of language about which learners have different opinions.(语法是语言的一个方面,学习者对此有不同的看法)”提到学习者对语法有不同的看法。空格后的句子“Others think it is the most boring part of learning a new language.(另一些人则认为这是学习一门新语言最无聊的部分)”提到一些人认为学习语法是最无聊的部分。空格处的句子应该表示与此相反的情况。所以,B项“Some learners are very interested in it.(一些学习者对此非常感兴趣)”符合语境。故选B项。 【17题详解】 空格处是该部分的主题句。根据下文的内容“Notice the aspects of English grammar that are the same as or very similar to those in your language. Notice the way that English expresses an idea differently to how it is done in your language too. If you notice grammar similarities and differences, you will probably learn the rules more quickly.(注意英语语法中与你的语言相同或非常相似的方面。注意到英语表达一个想法的方式与你的语言表达方式也不同。如果你注意到语法的异同,你可能会更快地学会规则)”可知,该部分主要是建议你要思考英语语法中与你的语言中的相同或不同之处。所以,A项“Think about grammar.(思考语法)”可以作为主题句。故选A项。 【18题详解】 根据空格前的句子“Read a lot of English books.(多读英语书)”可知,空格处的句子应该接着说多读英语书的好处。所以,G项“When you are reading English books, you are taking in models of correct grammar.(当你阅读英语书籍时,你是在学习正确语法的范例)”符合语境。故选G项。 【19题详解】 空格前的句子“Pay attention to the most difficult aspects of grammar for you. You can pay special attention to these aspects when writing.(注意语法中最难的部分。你在写作时可以特别注意这些方面)”提到在写作时注意语法中最难的部分。而空格后的句子“However, you can sometimes take a little more time to try when speaking and get these aspects of grammar right.(然而,你有时可以在说话的时候多花一点时间来尝试,把语法的这些方面弄对)”转到了说的时候注意把语法弄对,所以空格处的句子应该是个过渡句,从写的时候注意语法过渡到说的时候注意语法上来。所以,C项“It is more difficult in speaking, of course.(当然,说更困难)”符合语境。故选C项。 【20题详解】 空格前的句子“If you decide to do grammar exercises, try to go beyond just filling in blanks or doing multi-choice answers.(如果你决定做语法练习,尽量不要只是填空或做多项选择。)”提到做语法练习,不要只是填空或做多项选择题。空格处的句子应该接着说还应该练习什么。所以,F项“Write out some sentences that follow the same rule you are practicing.(按照你正在练习的规则写出一些句子)”符合语境。故选F项。 第Ⅱ卷 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分35分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 In China, square dancing is an exercise routine performed to music in squares or parks.
