A friend recently showed me her planned trip to Italy. Over cups of tea, she laid out the trip in military order-the Colosseum, Pompeii, Venice…By the time she was done I was exhausted, and 1 hadn’t even set foot outside the house.
My way of travelling is different. I just pick a destination and then go there, leaving things to chance. This may not be for everybody, but leaping into the unknown, for me, has been great.
Take Greenland, for example: 1 found myself in a tiny village of just 40 people, with no place to stay. The locals welcomed me warmly, and I enjoyed a delightful supper with an Inuit family, completed with fantastic stories never found in guidebooks.
A few years back, driving through Iceland, I noticed an older woman sitting at a picnic table by a waterfall. I approached her, and asked if I could sit with her. She turned out to be a source of knowledge about the area, which we had all to ourselves, without a tourist in sight.
Wandering in Trinidad, I got on a coastal ship. On the way, a young woman talked to me and gave me a tip for a visit to a hidden local restaurant with delicious and affordable food. There, I enjoyed the meal surrounded by the relaxing local music.
As a teacher, I encourage my students to travel. Most of them have never gone outside; others even never left their hometown. In many cases, they express a sense of fear, of going someplace where they won’t know anybody. I try to remove their anxieties by sharing my own travel experiences, and the message that there are good people everywhere, and friendships are waiting to be started.
I once read a piece about regrets that people expressed later in their lives. One that struck me was, “I wish I had taken more chances.” Setting off little planning does mean taking a risk, but for me, it is rewarding.
24.Why did the author mention her friend’s travel plan?
A.To recommend some best spots in Italy. B.To express her unconcern of friend’s plan.
C.To introduce her different way of traveling. D.To show her tiredness of making travel plans.
25.What can you learn from the author’s travel experiences?
A.She visited a village with large population in Greenland.
B.She learnt fascinating stories about Inuit from guidebooks.
C.She saw the waterfall advised by an old woman in Iceland.
D.She enjoyed a meal in a local hidden restaurant in Trinidad.
26.What mainly stops the author’s students from traveling?
A.Their lack of money. B.Their fear of unfamiliar places.
C.Their dislike of travelling abroad. D.Their inability to leave hometown.
27.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.Friendships Start in Trips B.A Man is Rewarded with Plans
C.Travels Unprepared Bring Surprise D.Chances Favor the Focused Minds

Everyone knows what makes a good story. Our hero starts their journey as a flawed being. In scene after scene, they face challenges that push them down new paths. By the end of the talc, they overcome setbacks and become a better person in the process.
We love these plots in the novels we read but the principles of a good story offer much more than entertainment. Recent research shows that the narratives we tell ourselves about our lives can powerfully help us recover from stress. People who generate tales of struggling and turning over a new leaf from their own lives appear to have much better mental health. Professor Dan McAdams put forward this idea and discovered that whether someone can describe having had some control over events in their past is an important predictor of mental health. Another key theme involved is finding some kind of positive meaning after stressful events.
McAdams invited 14 and 15-year-olds to join in an experiment to write about their experiences of failure and success. Half of them were then given extra instructions to describe the ways they had made their success a reality and how the failure had changed them for the better. Eight weeks later, members of this group reported greater persistence and better grades in their schoolwork.
Exciting as these results are, some experts sound a few notes of caution. They worry that, hearing about the power of self-narratives, many people may feel they have to find a positive turning point in life. If they can’t, they could end up feeling guilty about having somehow “failed”.
Clearly, self-narratives aren’t the panacea. Nevertheless, if you hope for self-improvement, you can use the findings to good effect. By recognizing ourselves as the hero at the center of our own struggles, we can all become the author of our own destiny and change ourselves for the better.
28.What does the research focus on?
A.The causes of stress.
B.The principles of narrative.
C.The connection between struggle and well-being.
D.The link between mental health and self-narratives.
29.Why is the experiment mentioned in paragraph 3?
A.To give proof. B.To make predictions.
C.To draw a conclusion. D.To make comparisons.
30.What does the underlined word “panacea” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.Attempt to get rid of worries. B.Means of recognizing yourself.
C.Solution to adolescent problems. D.Guarantee to become better people.
31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Embrace Life Struggles B.Be Your Own Hero
C.Ways to Make a Good Story D.The Power of Self-improvement
D
The rise of the internet and social media has greatly expanded our access to information—and that includes false or misleading information. Thus, it’s vital to teach our children media literacy—the ability to critically evaluate information online.
A 2016 Stanford University study, for example, showed that high school students had a hard time distinguishing between sponsored content and news articles or determining the potential prejudice of social media messages. A more recent MIT study on the spread of false information on Twitter found that fake news stories were 70 percent more likely to be retweeted (推特转发) than true news stories.
“We’re in the most profound information revolution in 500 years,” says Howard Schneider, the executive director of Stony Brook University’s Center for News Literacy. “Our children are not prepared for the change. My metaphor is that we need to inject every student with an initial dose of news literacy before they leave middle school. We need to build their immunities (免疫) against this flood of false information and then continue to strengthen these lessons in high school.”
Rachel Kelsh, a social studies teacher from Hampton Bays High School on Long Island, is one of the teachers piloting Stony Brook’s program. Every week her students learn to examine current events using different news sources. She uses this time to explain why some stories are reliable and others aren’t, and to teach how some people carefully choose their news only from sources that share their political bent. She also explains how social media algorithms (算法) work—for example, how liking something on TikTok means you’ll be shown more of that type of content. And she insists that parents should also do their part in their children’s media literacy.
Media literacy is a key 21st century skill and its importance will only increase. Learning how to evaluate media is an increasingly important skill for our children.
32.What did the author hope to show by citing the two university studies?
A.The influence of fake news. B.The misjudgment of students.
C.The wide access to online news. D.The urgency of critical thinking.
33.What does the metaphor of “to inject our child with an initial dose of news literacy” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.To teach our child media literacy at a young age.
B.To stop our child receiving false information.
C.To keep our child immune against online news.
D.To protect our child against addiction to online news.
34.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.How Stony Brook’s program is running.
B.How students fight with online fake news.
C.How people work together to help children.
D.How social media work on children.
35.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.The Most Needed Skill in the 21st Century
B.Media Literacy, a Must for Our Children
C.Be Careful with News Stories Online
D.The Importance of Media Literacy

Tips on How to Study Smarter
Having good study skills is always helpful. And it’s more important in the present situation, where online classes are growing. Students are likely to learn without a teacher or parent watching over. 36 Here are some tips to develop good study skills.
· Practice, practice, practice! Musicians, practice their instruments. Athletes practice sports skills. The same should go for learning. 37 In one study, students took practice tests over several weeks. On the final test, they scored better than those who studied in the normal way.
· Test yourself. Before big tests, you may often cover up the notes, and then try to recall them. This practice can help nearly everyone. You can put questions down on one side of the paper and the answers on the other side. 38 Teachers often dig deeper. They don’t just ask shallow questions.
· Learn from mistakes. A secret of science: Mistakes help understanding. If you don’t find out what the answer is, you’re wasting your time. Checking the answers can make your study time more efficient. Check to see if you are right. You can then focus on what you get wrong. 39
· 40 Students know some good study skills, yet many of you don’t actually do these things. Often you fail to plan ahead. So do make plans. And try to stick to a routine, too. For example, you can have a set time and place where you do schoolwork and study. And get enough sleep—not just the night before the test but for weeks or months on end.
A.Focus on your plan.
B.You can add more skills.
C.Make a plan and stick to it.
D.In fact, mistakes are actually a primary key to learning.
E.Try to test yourself in the way the teacher asks questions.
F.So you will have to manage your time and study more on your own.
G.If you want to be able to remember information, the best thing you can do is practice.

In a small town, there was a community talent show held every year in the local park. The event was a highlight for many, with performances from various local talents. Among the audience was a woman named Emily, a kind-hearted local librarian, along with her 12-year-old daughter Anna. Both of their eyes were filled with excitement.
As the show began, Emily and her daughter watched a young girl in amazement, about eight, confidently sing a song. Her voice was surprisingly powerful for her small body. Then a group of teenagers followed. Their hip-hop dance routine was full of energy, leading to cheers from the crowd. There was even an elderly gentleman who performed a series of magic tricks. However, as the sun began to set, many in the audience grew tired and the applause (掌声) after each act became less enthusiastic (热情的).
Then came the turn of a young boy, around ten years old, nervously holding his violin. As he started playing, it was clear that he was a beginner. His notes were shaky and he missed a few beats. The audience, already tired, responded with only a little polite applause. Emily noticed the boy’s frustrated face as he finished his performance.
It was at this moment that Emily recalled a powerful memory from her own childhood—the time when she had stood on a similar stage, her voice trembling (颤抖) through a song. But the kindness she had received from a stranger in the audience pushed her to carry on. Drawing from the lesson she had learned from the past experience, Emily stood up, clapping loudly and cheering for the boy. “Great job! Keep practicing, and you’re doing wonderfully!”she called out. Her enthusiasm inspired other members of the audience to join in the applause, their clap growing louder and more sincere.

W: Kaavan, the elephant has been described as the world’s loneliest elephant. He was the only Asian elephant in Pakistan. He was given to Pakistan as a gift in 1985. He was badly treated and he wound up in Islamabad’s Marghazar Zoo. Life was hard for Kaavan. The conditions at the zoo weren’t good. During the days, he was trained to use his trunk to beg for money from zoo visitors.
In 1990, a female elephant named Saheli was brought to the zoo. The two became close, and remained together for over twenty years. But in 2012, Saheli died, leaving Kaavan alone again. Kaavan felt the loss deeply. He became sad and unhealthy. Because of the poor conditions, he sometimes became violent, and was kept in chains much of the time. He weighed far too much, and his health and his mood got worse and worse. In 2015, a student from Pakistan started an online request to free Kaavan. In 2016, reporters wrote about Kaavan’s conditions. But it wasn’t until four years later that a court in Pakistan ordered the zoo to close. In that same year, Kaavan was taken to his new home.
下面的“Running every four minutes at peak times, it takes just 24 minutes to complete a circuit of the 15 stations and costs from as little as £1.80 for an adult single to travel anywhere else on the system.(在高峰时段每四分钟开一次,只需24分钟即可完成15个车站的循环,成年单身人士在系统上去任何其他地方出行的费用低至1.80英镑。)”
根据时刻表“First Trains”下面的“Outer Circle”一列的“From St Enoch”,对应的“Mon. to Sat.” 下面一列的“10:03”,以及“Inner Circle”一列的“From St Enoch”,对应的“Mon. to Sat.”
根据“Subway tickets”下面的内容“All day*”行和“Adult”“Child**”列对应的“£4.30”“£2.15”,以及右侧说明“* unlimited travel for one day(*一天无限制出行)”“** Applies to children under 16 years old.(**适用于16岁以下的儿童。)”“Children under five travel for free if accompanied by a fare paying adult.(5岁以下儿童可免费旅行由一名付费成人陪同。)”
根据文章第二段“My way of travelling is different. I just pick a destination and then go there, leaving things to chance. (我的旅行方式与众不同。我只是选定一个目的地,然后就去那里,听天由命。)”可知,作者第一段提到朋友的旅行计划是为了引出下文自己与朋友截然不同的旅行方式。故选C项。
25.细节理解题。根据文章第五段“On the way, a young woman talked to me and gave me a tip for a visit to a hidden local restaurant with delicious and affordable food. There, I enjoyed the meal surrounded by the relaxing local music. (在路上,一位年轻女子与我交谈,并给我推荐了一家隐藏在当地、食物美味且价格实惠的餐厅。在那里,我在轻松的当地音乐中享受着美食。)”可知,作者在Trinidad旅行时,在当地一家隐蔽的餐馆享用了一顿美餐。故选D项。
26.细节理解题。根据文章第六段“Most of them have never gone outside; others even never left their hometown. In many cases, they express a sense of fear, or going someplace where they won’t know anybody. (他们中的大多数从未出过国;还有一些人甚至从未离开过家乡。很多时候,他们表达的是一种恐惧,或是去一个不认识任何地方。)”可知,学生们不愿意出门旅行的原因主要是对未知的恐惧。故选B项。
27.主旨大意题。根据全文以及最后一段“One that struck me was, “I wish I had taken more chances.” Setting off little planning does mean taking a risk, but for me, it is rewarding. (有一个回答让我印象深刻:“我真希望我曾冒过更多的险。”不经过周密计划就开始行动确实意味着冒险,但对我来说,去做是值得的。)”可知,文章主要讲述了作者不做计划旅游方式所带来的意外之惊喜。所以短文的标题为“毫无准备的旅行带来的惊喜”。故选C项。
28.D 29.A 30.D 31.B
根据第二段中“Recent research shows that the narratives we tell ourselves about our lives can powerfully help us recover from stress. People who generate tales of struggling and turning over a new leaf from their own lives appear to have much better mental health. Professor Dan McAdams put forward this idea and discovered that whether someone can describe having had some control over events in their past is an important predictor of mental health.(最近的研究表明,我们对自己生活的描述可以有力地帮助我们从压力中恢复过来。那些讲述自己在生活中挣扎并重新开始的人似乎有更好的心理健康。丹·麦克亚当斯教授提出了这一观点,并发现一个人是否能描述自己对过去的事情有一定的控制能力,这是一个重要的心理健康预测指标)”可知,研究的重点是心理健康和自我叙述之间的联系。故选D。
29.推理判断题。根据第三段“McAdams invited 14 and 15-year-olds to join in an experiment to write about their experiences of failure and success. Half of them were then given extra instructions to describe the ways they had made their success a reality and how the failure had changed them for the better. Eight weeks later, members of this group reported greater persistence and better grades in their schoolwork.(麦克亚当斯邀请了14岁和15岁的孩子参加一个实验,写下他们失败和成功的经历。然后,他们中的一半人被给予额外的指示,描述他们是如何使成功成为现实的,以及失败是如何使他们变得更好的。八周后,这组学生表现出了更强的毅力和更好的学业成绩)”可推知,在第3段中提到这个实验是为了提供证据。故选A。
根据倒数第二段“Exciting as these results are, some experts sound a few notes of caution. They worry that, hearing about the power of self-narratives, many people may feel they have to find a positive turning point in life. If they can’t, they could end up feeling guilty about having somehow “failed”.(尽管这些结果令人兴奋,但一些专家提出了一些警告。他们担心,听到自我叙述的力量,许多人可能会觉得他们必须找到生活中的积极转折点。如果他们做不到,他们可能会因为某种程度上的“失败”而感到内疚)”可知,自我叙述并不能保证就可以成为更好的人。故画线词意思是“保证成为更好的人”。故选D。
31.主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Nevertheless, if you hope for self-improvement, you can use the findings to good effect. By recognizing ourselves as the hero at the center of our own struggles, we can all become the author of our own destiny and change ourselves for the better.(然而,如果你希望自我改善,你可以利用这些发现来取得好的效果。认识到自己是奋斗中的英雄,我们都能成为自己命运的主宰,让自己变得更好)”结合文章主要说明了最近的研究表明,我们对自己生活的描述可以有力地帮助我们从压力中恢复过来。那些讲述自己在生活中挣扎并重新开始的人似乎有更好的心理健康。可知,故B选项“做自己的英雄”最符合文章标题。故选B。

33.细节理解题。根据第三段“Our children are not prepared for the change. My metaphor is that we need to inject every student with an initial dose of news literacy before they leave middle school. We need to build their immunities against this flood of false information and then continue to strengthen these lessons in high school.”(我们的孩子还没有为这种变化做好准备。 故选A项。
根据第四段第一句“Rachel Kelsh, a social studies teacher from Hampton Bays High School on Long Island, is one of the teachers piloting Stony Brook’s program.”(Rachel Kelsh是长岛汉普顿湾高中的一名社会研究教师,也是Stony Brook项目的试点教师之一。) 故选A项。

Thus, it’s vital to teach our children media literacy—the ability to critically evaluate information online.”(互联网和社交媒体的兴起极大地扩大了我们获取信息的渠道,其中包括虚假或误导性信息。 以及最后一段“Media literacy is a key 21st century skill and its importance will only increase. Learning how to evaluate media is an increasingly important skill for our children.”(媒体素养是21世纪的一项关键技能,其重要性只会增加。

What I should do is to put up attractive posters. I’m told that no one can design a poster better than you. Would you please help design the poster with us?

67.范文
Anna looked up at her mother, surprised by her actions. “Mom, why did you do that?”she asked curiously. Emily smiled and said that the boy was brave enough to share his talent with them. She thought it’s important to encourage and support each other, especially when someone is just starting out and that people can never know how much a simple act of kindness can mean to someone. Anna nodded thoughtfully, watching as the young violinist left the stage with a shy but proud smile.
Since that day, Anna carried her mother’s lesson with her. She found herself looking at situations differently, seizing opportunities to offer support and kindness. In school, when classmates struggled or felt nervous, Ann a was there with a word of encouragement, remembering her mother’s example at the talent show. She realized that these small acts of kindness didn’t just help others, and that they made herself feel good too. Anna hoped that just like her mother, she could be a source of initiative and encouragement in someone else’s life.
