PEOPLE OF ACHIEVEMENT教学设计 一、教学目标 1.Help students understand Tu Youyou's life and the main process of discovering artemisinin; 2.Through the context, let students to find out the expressions that describe Tu Youyou’s excellent qualities in the text; 3.Make students deepen the understanding of news report; 4.Encourage students to plan their future to become a valuable person after learning Tu’s excellent qualities. 二、教材分析 The topic of this unit is human and society, and it focuses on the theme of science and scientists. This lesson is the first part.It tells Tu Youyou’s life experience, the process of her experiment and the comment of Tu Youyou. The genre of this passage belongs to news, and it employs more of the third person to objectively describe her discovery of artemisinin. The adjectives in the text are used to describe Tu’s quality, then it helps students learn from her, and also can use them when introducing other characters in the future. This is the beginning of the unit, to give the basic knowledge of scientist and research, it aims at stimulating young people's interest and curiosity in scientific research, guiding them to think about the methods of scientific research, actively carrying out scientific research, and exploring the essential qualities of scientists and the basic elements of scientific spirit. 三、学情分析 As students in grade two in Senior High School, they have read some articles about introducing characters, but their words are relatively simple. With the first year learning experiences in high school, students can use basic reading strategies to search and integrate information, like skimming and scanning, and are able to think systematically and logically according to some reading clues. But they also need to be patiently guided. In the meantime, teacher should guide students to understand the value of a true man, to shape their values, which is difficult in teaching. 四、教学重难点 1. Students can point out the parts of news report and summarize the main idea of each part.  2. Students can explore the underlying meaning that these numbers represent.  3. Students can find out the descriptive words in the passage. 4. Sort out the great personal qualities of Tu Youyou based on the passage. 五、教学过程（不能是课堂实录） 教师活动 学生活动 设计意图 Step 1 Show the picture and video to students and ask questions. Look at the picture and the video to answer the questions. To introduce the topic of Tu Youyou and let students freely talk about the honorable moment. Step 2 1.Show the title of the passage and ask students three questions; 2.Lead students to understand the structure of news report 1.Students will answer the questions about the title and genre. 2.Students can talk about the structure of the passage. From this part, students will understand what is news report and what is the structure of news report Step 3 1.Ask students to point out the structure of the passage and summarize the main idea of the text and each part; 2.Complete the mind-map of the significance of the discovery; 3.Read and think why there are numbers mentioned; 4.Find out the descriptive words of para 1 1.Read the text as quickly as they can and the point out the structure and main idea; 2.Students will do individual work to get the correct answers of the mind-map and the process of the experiment; 3.Students could figure out the functions of the numbers; 4.Students will follow the teacher to find out the reason of Tu Youyou’s success 1.To let students get the main idea of the whole text and also understand the main idea of each part; 2.To help sutdents grasp the significance of Tu Youyou’s discovery and understand the process of the experiment; 3. To train students to master the function of numbers mentioned in the text; 4.To help studdents understand the reason of Tu’s success and make students feel honored to Tu Youyou Step 2 1.Read and find out Tu Youyou’s life experience 2.Explore the process of the experiment 3.Find the descriptive words and list the facts 1. Ask students to do pair work, and they need to share their opinions with their desk mates, and then share the answers with the whole class; 2.Students will go to the blackboard to write down the qualities of “what qualities make a person great” 1.To help students understand the difficult of the discovery, and let them show their respect to Tu Youyou; 2.To lead students find more qualities Step 3 Answer the questions of last paragraph Students will explore “What lead to the final success of the discovery of artemisinin?”and “What is Tu’s attitude toward traditional Chinese medicine?” To lead students to know team work is very important and to understand Chinese traditional medicine is great Step 4 Ask students whether they want to be a person like Tu Youyou? why or why not? If yes, in which aspect would you like to be ?What preparations are you going to make? Students will do group work, and six of them will be in one group to discuss and then write a short paragraph to share in front of the class 1. To help students to master the good qualities and let them know how to be a man of value; 2.To arouse students awareness of protect our country and our society Step 5 Summarize the textural type, structure, linguistic features and writing purpose of this passage Together with the students to make a summary of this class To conclude the class, and help students recall what they have learned today Step 6 Give some suggestions to students Ask the last row to stand up and read the suggestion Students will read aloud and raise everyone’s awareness of good qualities Step 7 Give students the assignments Students will choose any of the assignments to discussion or write down, then next time can share with everyone To help students know better of good qualities and let them choose freely in order to arouse their interest 六、作业设计 1.As to the discovery of artemisinin, which do you believe is more important, talent or effort？Or something else? 2.Why do scientists like Tu Youyou are respected as great persons? 3.Is there someone that you admire or respect in your life? Why? According to their own interest,students can choose all the questions or choose one of them to discuss with their classmates, after that they talk or write down to share with everyone next class. 七、教学反思 Students learned a lot in this class, and they know what is a news report, also they understand Tu Youyou’s discovery and experiment, the most important is that they learned the good qualities in class so they will develop theirs in the future.
