Throughout history, young individuals are always willing to carry the weight of responsibility and serve their communities selflessly. One such individual is Lily Chen.
Lily Chen was introduced to environmental and societal challenges at a very young age. Coming from a family of environmental activists, her father’s strong environmental awareness was a value she learned from childhood.
Upon completing her studies at the University of British Columbia in Canada and returning to her native Singapore, Lily’s environmental concerns deepened, especially following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.
A committed volunteer and a born leader, Lily was actively involved from the beginning. She helped to organize and lead at meet-ups in cafes and community halls, as well as run workshops, and training. Taking direct action, she has participated in various campaigns such as the global movement against single-use plastics. “Advocating for the environment has shown me that making a difference is not a sprint but a rather long race,” Lily remarked. “We must try to put up with tough times. But I’m sure we’ll make a difference in a long run.”
As an artist and educator, Lily organized interactive art project in line with Greenpeace Singapore’s campaigns on topics like deforestation(森林砍伐) and plastic pollution. A notable project was “Wings of Biodiversity,” where she directed a group of 30 young volunteers to create a 64-meter-long mural (壁画) as a part of a worldwide street art initiative fighting deforestation in the Amazon.
“Climate change is an urgent crisis,” Lily stated. “Yet, the activism of the youth in recent years offers a ray of hope. The youths of today are well organized, and passionate about expressing their desire for positive change and a green and sustainable future for all.”
24. What can we know about Lily Chen’s father?
A. He was an animal activist. B. He taught at a university.
C. He cared much about environment. D. He was living in poor conditions.
25. Which of the following best describes Lily Chen?
A. Inflexible. B. Socially responsible.
C. Unpopular. D. Economically disadvantaged.
26. What does the underlined part “a sprint” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. A short-lived effort. B. An instant success.
C. A complex situation. D. An immediate challenge.
27. What might be the purpose of the “Wings of Biodiversity” project?
A. To produce distinctive street art. B. To preserve the Amazon rainforest.
C. To fight against plastic pollution. D. To recognize environmental activists.

Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good, most would admit that their spoken English is poor. Whenever I speak to a Chinese student they always say, “My spoken English is poor.” However, their spoken English does not have to remain “poor”! I would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken English.
First, they fail to find suitable words to express themselves because of a limited vocabulary. Obviously the better answer is to expand their vocabulary. However, you can speak with a limited vocabulary, if your aptitude is positive. Others will follow you as long as you use the words that you know.
Second, they are afraid of making mistakes. Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking because they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should be FLUENCY (流利) NOT ACCURACY (准确性). Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using the right words and spelling them correctly. However, in speaking your aim is fluency. You want to get your message across, to talk to someone in English, as quickly and as well as you can, even though sometimes you may use a wrong word or tense, but it doesn’t matter because the person you are speaking to will understand you and take into consideration any mistakes he hears.
The third reason is that not enough attention is paid to listening. You have one mouth but two ears! All that hearing was necessary for you to start speaking.
Forth, most Chinese students are reactive (反应式的) rather than proactive (积极主动的) language learners. Instead of actively finding out opportunities (机会) to improve their spoken English, they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor. If you have this proactive outlook, then you will see English opportunities wherever you go.
If you do not use your English out of the classroom you will forget what English you know. Remember: USE IT OR LOSE IT! You can learn how to speak English better by speaking English more.
28.What can be inferred from the third paragraph?
A.Don’t be fluent. Just be accurate!
B.Don’t be nervous, don’t be shy. Just write!
C.Don’t be shy, don’t be fluent. Just listen and write!
D.Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Just speak!
29.To improve their spoken English, students should do the following things EXCEPT ______.
A.try to be as reactive as possible in learning English
B.try their best to enrich their vocabulary
C.try to avoid being afraid of making mistakes
D.pay more attention to listening before opening mouth
30.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.More hurry, less speed. B.Practice makes perfect.
C.Silence is gold. D.Better late than never.
31.Where does the passage probably come from?
A.A sports newspaper. B.A movie magazine
C.A research report on study. D.A teacher’s diary.
D
In the movie “The Wrong Trousers”, a pair of futuristic trousers lets people walk on walls and ceilings. Inspired by the movie, researchers in England created “The Right Trousers”, a set of trousers embedded(嵌入) with electrical pumps to force air into tiny tubes that expand and can help elderly or disabled people with issues like getting up or improving blood flow. Now, material scientists, computer programmers and fabric (纺织品) designers are working to advance robotic clothing.
In June, researchers in Australia created robotic fibers, which can make fabric move automatically. Last year, scientists at MIT built fiber batteries that could be embedded into clothes and power robotic clothing. In recent years, Google partnered with brands like Levi’s and Adidas to put sensors in jackets, backpacks and shoes, letting users access their phones instantly. Researchers said they could soon unlock an era where clothing will act more like a computer, sensing how your body feels and telling your clothes how to help.
At the University of New South Wales in Australia, researchers are creating fabrics that can shape-shift. Thanh Nho Do, a senior lecturer at the school, said his team has created tiny tubes that can weave into sheets of fabric. These tubes can make fabric take various preprogrammed shapes. But challenges still remain for Do’s team, notably around making these robotic tubes smaller so they can weave easily with other fabrics.
Rebecca Kramer Bottiglio from Yale University agreed that many challenges remain before smart clothing “reaches their full potential.” It will be challenging to make these clothes, equipped with fibers and technology, strong enough to go through multiple cycles in the laundry, she said. Despite that, she says researchers will figure out a way forward. “Recent breakthroughs point toward a not-so-distant future where smart clothing will be a part of our everyday life.” she said.
32.What inspired the researchers to come up with “The Right Trousers”?
A. A film. B. A blood issue.
C. The way electrical pumps work. D. The way the elderly and disabled move.
33. What did scientists at MIT do last year?
A. They put sensors in clothes.
B. They created movable robotic fibers.
C. They made batteries for robotic clothing.
D. They released smart clothing connected to cellphones.
34. What does Do’s team find challenging?
A. Making robotic tubes smaller.
B. Keeping robotic tubes properly shaped.
C.Producing stronger robotic tubes.
D. Programming the shape of robotic tubes.
35. What is Rebecca’s attitude toward the future of smart clothing?
A. Doubtful. B. Indifferent C. Worried. D. Hopeful.

We all make mistakes. Sometimes, it is hard to admit them. However, there is a magic power in this world that can give us the courage to do so.
I grew up in a small town in Ohio. There was a man in town that everyone seemed to know. We all called him Bob. Bob was uneducated. It seemed that because he was good-natured and not very smart, every one teased (戏弄) him.
One day when I was sitting on the porch, he came walking by. I was about 12 years old and thought it would make me feel grown up to tease him like some adults did in the town.
He asked how I was doing. I told him that my father had lost his job, and that we were short of money. I could see my friends laughing in the background so 1 went on with the lie. I had him fooled so completely that every time he asked me a question, I would make the situation seem worse and worse.I knew he made a meager (贫困的) living doing odd jobs, so it seemed funny when he asked me if we needed anything. I told him that we didn’t know if we would have enough to eat. He replied, “You poor thing. I will pray for you.”
That night I heard the door rattle (沙沙响) softly. I thought it was the wind beating against the door. So I didn’t pay much attention to it. Later when I opened the door to go outside, I realized it wasn’t wind.

Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good, most
would admit that their spoken English is poor. Whenever I speak to a Chinese student they always
say, “My spoken English is poor.” However, their spoken English does not have to remain “poor”!
英 语 试卷,第 页,(共 12 页)6
I would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken English.
First, they fail to find suitable words to express themselves because of a limited vocabulary.
Obviously the better answer is to expand their vocabulary. However, you can speak with a limited
vocabulary, if your aptitude is positive. Others will follow you as long as you use the words that
you know.
Second, they are afraid of making mistakes. Sometimes they make mistakes when they are
speaking because they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should
be FLUENCY (流利) NOTACCURACY (准确性). Your aim in writing is to be accurate
following the rules for grammar and using the right words and spelling them correctly. However,
in speaking your aim is fluency. You want to get your message across, to talk to someone in
English, as quickly and as well as you can, even though sometimes you may use a wrong word or
tense, but it doesn’t matter because the person you are speaking to will understand you and take
into consideration any mistakes he hears.
The third reason is that not enough attention is paid to listening. You have one mouth but two
ears! All that hearing was necessary for you to start speaking.
Forth, most Chinese students are reactive (反应式的) rather than proactive (积极主动的)
language learners. Instead of actively finding out opportunities (机会) to improve their spoken
English, they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their
English always remains poor. If you have this proactive outlook, then you will see English
opportunities wherever you go.
If you do not use your English out of the classroom you will forget what English you know.
Remember: USE IT OR LOSE IT! You can learn how to speak English better by speaking English
more.
英 语 试卷,第 页,(共 12 页)7
A.try to be as reactive as possible in learning English
B.try their best to enrich their vocabulary
C.try to avoid being afraid of making mistakes
D.pay more attention to listening before opening mouth
30.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.More hurry, less speed. B.Practice makes perfect.
C.Silence is gold. D.Better late than never.
31.Where does the passage probably come from?
A.A sports newspaper. B.Amovie magazine
C.A research report on study. D.A teacher’s diary.

In the movie “The Wrong Trousers”, a pair of futuristic trousers lets people walk on walls
and ceilings. Inspired by the movie, researchers in England created “The Right Trousers”, a set of
trousers embedded(嵌入 ) with electrical pumps to force air into tiny tubes that expand and can
help elderly or disabled people with issues like getting up or improving blood flow. Now, material
scientists, computer programmers and fabric (纺织品) designers are working to advance robotic
clothing.
In June, researchers in Australia created robotic fibers, which can make fabric move
automatically. Last year, scientists at MIT built fiber batteries that could be embedded into clothes
and power robotic clothing. In recent years, Google partnered with brands like Levi’s and Adidas
to put sensors in jackets, backpacks and shoes, letting users access their phones instantly.
Researchers said they could soon unlock an era where clothing will act more like a computer,
sensing how your body feels and telling your clothes how to help.
At the University of New South Wales in Australia, researchers are creating fabrics that can
shape-shift. Thanh Nho Do, a senior lecturer at the school, said his team has created tiny tubes that
can weave into sheets of fabric. These tubes can make fabric take various preprogrammed shapes.
But challenges still remain for Do’s team, notably around making these robotic tubes smaller so
they can weave easily with other fabrics.
Rebecca Kramer Bottiglio from Yale University agreed that many challenges remain before

smart clothing “reaches their full potential.” It will be challenging to make these clothes, equipped
with fibers and technology, strong enough to go through multiple cycles in the laundry, she said.
Despite that, she says researchers will figure out a way forward. “Recent breakthroughs point
toward a not-so-distant future where smart clothing will be a part of our everyday life.” she said.
Worried. D. Hopeful.

power in this world that can give us the courage to do so.
I grew up in a small town in Ohio. There was a man in town that everyone seemed to know.
We all called him Bob. Bob was uneducated. It seemed that because he was good-natured and not
very smart, every one teased (戏弄) him.
One day when I was sitting on the porch, he came walking by. I was about 12 years old and
thought it would make me feel grown up to tease him like some adults did in the town.
He asked how I was doing. I told him that my father had lost his job, and that we were short
of money. I could see my friends laughing in the background so 1 went on with the lie. I had him
fooled so completely that every time he asked me a question, I would make the situation seem
worse and worse.I knew he made a meager (贫困的) living doing odd jobs, so it seemed funny
when he asked me if we needed anything. I told him that we didn’t know if we would have enough
to eat. He replied, “You poor thing. I will pray for you.”
That night I heard the door rattle (沙沙响) softly. I thought it was the wind beating against
the door. So I didn’t pay much attention to it. Later when I opened the door to go outside, I
realized it wasn’t wind.

66. Dear fellow students,
I’m writing to appeal to everyone to take an active part in building a beautiful campus.
An attractive campus can make our learning pleasant and improve our grades. However, some students can be seen running on the lawn, picking flowers or throwing rubbish everywhere, which have already harmed our school environment. It’s time we did something to change the situation. From my perspective, everyone is responsible for the beauty of our campus. Besides, if we all avoid doing anything improper, our campus will become more beautiful.Every effort matters.
Let’s take action now.
Sincerely yours,
67. On the doorstep, l found a box of food with a note beside it. Upon seeing the food, I knew who had sent it. My facing burning with shame, I took the box inside with care. Packed in the box were some sandwiches, a bottle of milk and some fruit. I picked up the note, on which some words were carefully written, “Sorry, I can only get you these. Hope you like them. I will always pray for you.” The moment I finished reading the note, tears rolled down my face. How could I lie to a person with such a gentle heart? I knew it was time to make up for my mistake.
The next evening, with a big apple pie made by myself, I stood at the doorstep of Bob’s house. Having gathered up my courage, I knocked on the door. Bob seemed to be a little surprised when he saw me outside. He explained that it was no big deal and that I needn’t have come to thank him. I lowered my head, apologizing to him for my silly behavior. To my surprise, he just smiled and patted me on the shoulder, saying, “It’s OK. Now shall we take a bite of this yummy apple pie?” I raised my head and nodded with tears of joy. Thanks to Bob, I have learned the magic power of kindness.

I’ve just seen the first snow this winter, I mean in London. Other parts of Britain, like Scotland and the north of England, have already had some snow falls.
Do you like snow? Well, I do. Snow makes me happy and excited. When it snows I love to go out for a walk and take photos. It looks beautiful when everything is covered with snow, and the view is even better from the top of a building.
However, as it is 1℃ here today, the snow won’t stay long on the ground. But I’m lucky because I have taken some photos from the roof of a friend’s house in the center of the city. In the photos you can see high buildings, but the sky looks rather foggy.
I also enjoy walking on the snow. Some people are a bit scared but I love it. Naturally you need to wear the right shoes.
Let’s hope that the snow will bring us good luck!
