And while grey at 60 may not be surprising, many start to turn prematurely as young as 20. If we want to hide it, modern haircare products allow us to easily cover up our natural grey and preserve our youth a little longer. But these days, many people and women in particular, are throwing away the aye染料) to show their natural colours. Why? “Research has shown that our hair follicle(毛囊) production can be influenced by factors such as hormones and stress, but some people have a gene to lose pigment(色素) or go bald more than others,” says a report on the BBC website. For many men, going grey may not be a big deal. It's now seen as a sign of maturity, says UK newspaper Metro. It uses adjectives such as stylish and unique. But for many women, these qualities don't seem to apply. Kate Dinota, a New Yorker who started turning grey when she was seven, states that the everyday woman feels a pressure not to age. At 28 and after 14 years, she decided to stop dying her hair and let her grey hair show. And she's not alone. Since 2008, worldwide interest in grey hair has increased dramatically, Google Trends shows. This may have been driven by celebrities such as Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga, who both have silver hair. “People are torturing their hair to get the look,” says hair colourist Rita Hazan. Indeed, this trend was what persuaded 30-year-oldStephanie from Texas to stop dying her natural hair two-and-a-half years ago. People were paying money to achieve a look she had already. But to many women, the transition is not an easy one. Indeed, Kate experienced doubt from others with her initial decision. “People were like, ‘Are you sure? What about your career? You' re so young?’ Like that seems silly,” she reports. She believes there needs to be better representation of grey-haired women of all ages. In this way it is hoped that, like many men, women will feel more confident about letting it show and will feel more comfortable going grey gracefully. 28. Compared to men, women worry about . A. looking beautiful B. getting old C. appearing immature D. keeping fit 29. Why does silver hair gain popularity? A. To follow personalities. B. To save some money. C. To fit in with colleagues. D. To appear knowledgeable. 30. What is Kate Dinota's attitude towards women showing natural grey hair? A. Disapproving. B. Uncertain. C. Supportive. D. Objective. 31. What is the best title of the passage? A. The End of Grey Hair B. Gladly Going Grey C. Youth Is Fading D. Getting Fashionable D Putting food into the microwave for a couple of minutes may seem totally harmless, but Europe's quick-cooking ovens emit as much carbon as nearly 7 million cars, a new study has found, and the problem is growing. Due to the fact that costs are falling and kitchen appliances(厨房电器) are becoming symbols of status, owners are throwing many microwaves after an average of eight years. This is pushing rising sales of new microwaves which are expected to reach 135 million annually in the EU by the end of the decade. A study by the University of Manchester worked out the emissions of carbon dioxide —— the main greenhouse gas responsible for climate change —— at every stage of microwaves, from production to waste disposal. “It is electricity consumption by microwaves that has the biggest impact on the environment,” say the authors, who also calculate that the emissions from using 19 microwaves over a year are the same as those from a car. According to the same study, efforts to reduce consumption should focus on improving consumer awareness and behaviour to use appliances more efficiently. For example, electricity consumption by microwaves can be reduced by adjusting the time of cooking to the type of food. However, David Reay, professor of carbon management argues that, although microwaves use a great deal of energy, their emissions are minor compared to those from cars. In the UK alone and these emit way more than all the emissions from microwaves in the EU. Backing this up, recent data show that passenger cars in the UK emitted 69m tonnes of CO₂ in 2015. This is 10 times the amount this new microwave oven study estimates for annual emissions for all the microwave ovens in the whole of the EU. Further, the energy used by microwaves is lower than any other form of cooking. Among common kitchen appliances used for cooking, microwaves are the most energy efficient, followed by a stove and finally a standard oven. Thus, rising microwave sales could be seen as a positive thing. 32. What contributes to the increasing consumption of new microwaves? A. Various functions. B. More carbon emission. C. Declınıng prices. D. Further improved quality. 33. What is the advice from the study by the University of Manchester? A. Changing microwave users' habits. B. Stopping using microwaves gradually. C. Carrying out more research on microwaves. D. Replacing microwaves with other appliances. 34. How is paragraph 3 developed? A. By giving definition. B. By analyzing causes. C. By making comparison. D. By concluding viewpoints. 35. What can be learned from the last paragraph? A. Microwaves are probably not to blame. B. Energy efficiency is not a top priority. C. People should be talked into using microwaves less often. D. Stoves consume the least energy among kitchen appliances. 第二节 (共5个小题;每小题2.5分,满分 12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 So many teens and college students experience daily stress, worry, and anxiety around their grades. 36 . Right when I was getting through the toughest time, however, a random move led me to join the club, which has fundamentally transformed my life. Not only did the regular training strengthen my body, but it also significantly decreased my stress and anxiety. In addition, I benefited so immensely that I even recommended a number of my classmates to be part of the sport. Now I am incredibly appreciative, for it was running that helped me build up confidence, and find the strength and the courage to embrace life. So, let's go running, for a better version of ourselves and a bright future. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! 听力原文: 高一英语听力原文 Text1 M: Hey, Lisa. What book are you reading now?
