Pablo Picasso was a Spanish actor who was born on October 25, 1881. Picasso wasn’t just a painter of his time, he was an exceptional painter and his expertise didn’t just stop there.
One of Pablo’s amazing feats (功绩) was depicting realism and the surrounding culture through his art, and that is what he did. Picasso along with another legendary painter Georges Braque gave cubism birth. Cubism was a very unique and revolutionary art representing realism.
Picasso received training from his father who himself was an art teacher and a painter as well. Just at the age of 16, Pablo had already lost a liking to traditional art techniques and he desired to introduce something new. His quest began when he joined the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. That is when he came to know about his dislikeness of the traditional ways.
He began to experiment with different styles of art. Most of his life was spent in Paris, which was a city to be in if you were an artist in the early 20th century. During his stay in Paris, he became friends with Guillaume Apollinaire, Georges Braque, and Max Jacob. All of them were influential artists and writers of the time and they quickly became close friends. With time, Picasso’s style continued to evolve. His work was bold and he always preferred to use innovative perspective.
Picasso also excelled in other forms of art. He was a versatile artist and he also led a very versatile personal life. He had multiple relationships and was married quite a few times.
His most prominent and politically charged work was “Guernica”. He produced this in response to the Spanish Civil War when the town of Guernica suffered a horrifying bombing. To this day, his work is an iconic representation of war horrors. On April 8, 1973, Picasso passed away in the city of Mougins, France. He left behind a legacy of art that is celebrated still to this day.

A. It was a form of realism. B. It appeared in the 20th century.

It’s easy to think of sports as an escape from reality, removing the problems of our world. Researcher Madeleine Orr illustrates that wrong belief in her book Warming Up: How Climate Change Is Changing Sport. In her book, Orr leads readers to learn about all the ways climate change is affecting sports around the world, providing a convincing case for action from athletes, sports leagues and fans alike.
Orr, a sports ecologist at the University of Toronto, draws on her academic knowledge to outline how climate change is affecting sports. While Orr supports her argument with data and interviews with experts, it’s the personal stories that are most powerful. There’s the heartbreaking story of a football player Jordan McNair, who died of heat stroke at practice.
It’s refreshing to see Orr talk about how climate change is disproportionately impacting nations that are least responsible for global greenhouse gas emissions, a point that can get lost in Western reporting on the topic. High temperatures are threatening Kenyan runners. Rising seas are eroding (侵蚀) a famous rugby beach in Fiji. A 2022 flood destroyed Pakistan’s sports leagues — along with much of the country.
But against the background of climate change’s upsetting reality, Orr keeps hope alive in the last six chapters. The sports world can adapt to climate change to ensure that sports survive. She spotlights the past and present activism of athletes who are fighting for sustainability. One uplifting example is Innes FitzGerald, who refused to fly from Britain to Australia for the 2023 World Athletics Championships out of concern for air travel’s carbon emissions.
Orr’s writing is authoritative and conversational, and while she sometimes slips into academic terms, her language is largely accessible even to readers with no scientific background. The book is jam-packed with information and has something for sports fans alike. In the fight against climate change, Warming Up shows us that it’s time for the sports world to play ball.
28. What is mainly talked about in Orr’s book?
A. The climate problems facing the world. B. The effect of climate change on sports.
C. The sports world’s action to change the climate. D. The writer’s attitude toward the climate change.
29. What make Orr’s opinion more persuasive?
A. Experts’ talks. B. Individual stories.
C. Science reports. D. Collected figures.
30. Why were Kenyan runners mentioned?
A. To point out the potential future of rugby.
B. To prove the unfairness of Western reports.
C. To show some innocent victims of climate change.
D. To explain the link between greenhouse gases and climate.
31 What is the feature of Orr’s book?
A. It is influential and touching. B. It is theoretical and professional.
C. It is informative and easy to understand. D. It is reliable and full of academic terms.
B 29. B 30. C 31. C

With the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, many people worry that their jobs could be replaced by AI and robots. But can AI or robots truly replace humans?
Every major technological advancement brings with itself a fresh wave of “machine replacement” anxiety, raising the fear that machines will outdo us. From the Industrial Revolution to today’s intelligent systems, every era has raised the same fear.
So, will machines actually replace humans?
First, it’s true that machines have a replacement effect. Machines have surpassed human capability in many fields. In the production sector, the replacement of humans by machines depends on a machine’s ability to effectively perform a task.
To analyze whether machines can replace humans in many, if not all, jobs, it is necessary to make clear that machines replace skills, not people. For instance, during the early assembly line era, companies only needed workers to tighten screws on some products. When machines “mastered” the “screw-tightening” skill, the need for workers in that role declined. As machines evolve, they improve their precision in specific tasks. So once human skill levels lack behind, machines with higher accuracy can become the preferred choice.
While automation may replace humans in jobs like “screw-tightening”, it creates more jobs in the machine maintenance and operation sectors. Companies now require individuals with managerial and analytical skills to optimize production and workflow.
But this replacement effect has limits. Human labor maintains unique, hard-to-replace qualities like creativity, emotional connection and complex judgment. These qualities are essential in jobs requiring innovation, flexibility, management, or decision-making. The logic of “machines replacing humans” is not only about technical advancement but also about economic optimization (优化). It reshapes job markets, shifting human labor from easily replaceable roles to more valuable, innovative positions.
Fortunately, humans are more than just a collection of skills. Every individual has multifaceted qualities — hands that can work, minds that think — and can use experience productively and feel emotions. Embracing creativity, empathy, and intellectual curiosity is key to avoiding replacement. The real question is not whether machines will replace us, but rather, what can we uniquely achieve.
32. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
A. Only workers worry about losing jobs.
B. Machines perform better than humans in all fields.
C. “Machine replacement” anxiety appears in every era.
D. The development of technology causes “machine replacement” anxiety.
33. What causes the decline in the need for workers in some jobs?
A. The increase in labor costs.
B. The lack of managerial skills.
C. The emergence of new industries.
D. The improvement of machines’ precision.
34. What can be inferred about the future job market from the text?
A. Human jobs will be completely replaced by machines.
B. Jobs requiring creativity will be more valuable.
C. Only technical jobs will remain in the market.
D. Machine maintenance jobs will disappear.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. The Irreplaceability of Humans. B. The All-powerful Machines.
C. The Rapid Rise of AI. D. The End of Human Labor.
D 33. D 34. B 35. A

和第二段中“Every major technological advancement brings with itself a fresh wave of “machine replacement” anxiety, raising the fear that machines will outdo us.
由文章第五段中“So once human skill levels lack behind, machines with higher accuracy can become the preferred choice. (因此,一旦人类技能水平落后,具有更高精度的机器就会成为首选。)”可知,机器精度的提高导致了对某些工作岗位工人的需求下降。故选D。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。由文章倒数第二段中“These qualities are essential in jobs requiring innovation, flexibility, management, or decision-making. The logic of “machines replacing humans” is not only about technical advancement but also about economic optimization (优化). It reshapes job markets, shifting human labor from easily replaceable roles to more valuable, innovative positions. (创造力、情感联系和复杂判断等品质在需要创新、灵活性、管理或决策的工作中至关重要。“机器取代人”的逻辑不仅关乎技术进步,也关乎经济优化。它重塑了就业市场,将人类劳动力从容易被替代的角色转向更有价值、更具创新性的职位。)”可知,在未来就业市场中,需要创造力的工作将更有价值。故选B。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段“With the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, many people worry that their jobs could be replaced by AI and robots. But can AI or robots truly replace humans? (随着人工智能的迅速崛起,许多人担心自己的工作可能会被人工智能和机器人取代。但人工智能或机器人真的能取代人类吗?)”可知,文章主要讨论了人工智能和机器人是否能真正取代人类的问题,指出虽然机器在某些方面已经超越了人类,但它们无法取代人类在某些方面的独特品质,如创造力、情感联系和复杂判断。因此,最好的标题应该是强调人类的不可替代性,即“The Irreplaceability of Humans. (人类的不可替代性)”。故选A。

此处为固定短语be worth doing/be worth to be done“值得做某事”。故填hearing/ to be heard。
故填which/that。
故填a。
故填into。
故填is played。

In a small town located in the mountains, there was a young boy named Owen. He was crazy about basketball more than anything else in the world. He would spend hours every day practicing his dribbling (运球), shooting and passing. He dreamed of one day winning games on a team.
Owen’s town had a small basketball court that was often empty. Owen would go there every day after school to practice. One day, as he was shooting hoops (投篮), he heard a voice behind him, “Hey, kid! You’re pretty good!”
Owen turned around to see a tall man with a friendly smile. The man introduced himself as Coach Johnson and asked Owen if he wanted to join his basketball team. The team was made up of kids from all over the town, and they practiced every day after school.
Owen was overjoyed because he had never played on a team before. He wanted to start and win games. Owen quickly became the star player of the team.
However, the team never won a game. “I had trained so hard and performed excellently, but we were always losing! Jack should have run much faster towards me and Kris should have passed the ball to me!” Owen kept complaining to the coach.
The complaint seemed understandable! Owen was admired by his teammates because he was fast and had incredible shots. However, Johnson knew Owen lacked something important. He told Owen to learn to play with his teammates as a team instead of just focusing on himself. Owen didn’t quite understand that at first and insisted he just needed to practice harder to win games.
However, disaster struck. Owen injured his ankle one day and had to sit out for several weeks, which let him fall into anxiety. He felt his dream was slipping away.
During his recovery at home, Owen refused to see anyone on the team, except his coach. Johnson handed Owen a phone downloaded with some videos about the best basketball teams and some cards from Owen’s teammates.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Owen couldn’t wait to watch those videos.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After recovering, Owen returned to his team as a changed player.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Owen couldn’t wait to watch those videos. He watched them over and over again, noticing that the players weren’t just good at shooting and dribbling, but also had incredible cooperative spirit. Owen realized that he had been so focused on his own success that he had forgotten about the importance of teamwork. As he thought of his teammates, he saw the words “We are a team!” written on each of the card. He decided to become a better teammate.
After recovering, Owen returned to his team as a changed player. He passed the ball more, encouraged his teammates and worked hard to help improve their skills. Johnson was relieved to see self-centered Owen had got what he had been lacking in. Those diligent kids played as a strong team and they started winning games. To Owen’s delight, his dream finally came true. More importantly, Owen learned that basketball was more about working together as a team.

Most of his life was spent in Paris which was a city to be in if you were an artist in the early 20th century.

31. What is the feature of Orr’s book?
A. It is influential and touching. B. It is theoretical and professional.
C. It is informative and easy to understand. D. It is reliable and full of academic terms.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
