One Possible Version:
Good morning , everyone!
I am Li Hua. It is my great honour to stand here to share my viewpoint on “Eating and Health.”
As is universally acknowledged, a lot remains to be debated as to what foods we should eat and how we should
eat foods to stay healthy. To begin with, it is the moderate amount of sweet foods that we should restrict ourselves
to on a daily basis. Only by this means will we take in the essentially-needed calories, as a result of which, we will
stay away from the killer disease. Apart from that, with different categories of fresh foods consumed and with foods
rich in protein eaten, our health is being boosted. In addition, eating slowly and consistently is what it takes to
shape healthy eating, Actually, having a healthy attitude towards eating matters a lot. Put more simply, we eat to
live, we don’t live to eat and we are what we eat .
All things considered, do keep balanced and moderate eating and we will stay in shape. Thanks for your
listening.

One Possible Version:
On seeing the scene, Jack had a sinking heart. Care-laden and anxiety-ridden, he tiptoed to approach the
injured squirrel. In a split second, the entire forest came to a standstill, birds stopping singing and deer stopping
eating. All creatures were looking forward to a prompt rescue. Jack tenderly cradled the squirrel in his hands,
checking the sharp thorns trapping the creature tightly. Slowly and steadily, he started letting the squirrel go. Step
by step, the thorns were removed, exposing the injured paw beneath. With the last thorn disappearing, the squirrel
released a sigh of relief and its eyes reflected a gratitude. Free as the squirrel was, it didn’t run away in fright. On
the contrary, without hesitation, the squirrel gazed at Jack as if to express its thanks. Then, in an elegant leap, it
jumped up a tree and vanished into the forest.
Days later, Jack again returned to the forest. Walking closer and closer to the depths of the forest, he was
repeatedly engaged by those smart creatures. He was about to raise his camera and arrest another glimpse of the
forest’s miracles when a familiar figure abruptly appeared in his frame. It was the very squirrel the he had saved.
Under the tree stood the cameraman, Jack, whose eyes were reflecting friendliness. Delighted and excited, Jack
greeted his old friend who had run down from the branch with excitement and snuggled against his feet. Quick as a
flash, the entire forest was celebrating their reunion. The leaves were rustling gently, the birds were singing
melodiously, the wind was whispering slowly and the deer were grazing happily. What a harmonious scene they
were playing.

us afterwards.
(Text 2)
M: I live on campus, so I walk to classes. What about you, Gina? You drive, right?
W: No. I used to, but it’s really expensive to park. There’s a direct bus that goes right near where I live. I think it’s
easier.
(Text 3)
W: Hello, this is Henrietta at Southside elementary school. How may I help you?
M: Hi Henrietta, this is David, the math teacher. I’m calling to tell you that I won’t be able to come to school today.

I feel very sick.
W: Okay, take a good rest and don’t worry about your work.
(Text 4)
M: Well, hello there, Julia! Long time no see!
W: Mike! Hi! I haven’t seen you for ages! What are you doing here?
M: I just got a new job in the city, so I’m shopping for some clothes. Hey, what do you think of this shirt?
W: You look great in blue.
(Text 5)
M: I need to pick up a gift for my brother Tom. His birthday is on Sunday next week. What would you recommend,

M: Did you have a good weekend, Sarah?
W: Yes, thank you. I visited some friends in the countryside.
M: It’s good to get out of the city sometimes, isn’t it?
W: Yes, it was very peaceful and it’s wonderful to breathe clean air after all the pollution in the city. They live
in a quiet village surrounded by fields and trees. Everything was so green. I found it a bit frightening at night,
though. When it gets dark in the countryside, it gets really dark. There are no street lights, or lights from cars
and buildings like any city or town.
M: I bet you had a fantastic view of the stars, though!
(Text 7)
M: Wow, these photographs are amazing. Did you take them?
W: Thanks! Yes, they’re my photos.
M: Seriously, they look really professional. You could sell them.
W: Oh, I don’t know about that … maybe when I get a bit better at it.
M: Did you take all of these with your phone?
W: No, not these ones. I started getting interested in photography about a year ago. Then my parents gave
me a really good camera for my birthday, and I decided to sign up for a photography course. I learned a lot of
basic things and, at the moment, I’m just experimenting with various techniques.
(Text 8)
W: What’s the matter, Tommy?
M: I think I hurt myself yesterday.
W: What were you doing yesterday?
M: In the morning, I was running in the park when I fell down and cut my knee.
W: I’m sorry to hear that.
M: But that’s not all. Yesterday afternoon, I was riding my bicycle when I fell off and hit my back on the ground.
W: Your back and your knee? Does anything else hurt?
M: Yes. Yesterday evening, I was walking down the stairs when I fell and hurt my arm. They all hurt now. Should I
do any examination, doctor?
W: Let me see. No need to worry. I will give you some medicine to take to make the pain go away. You should
take the medicine. And you should also be more careful!

W:What do you want to do today, Todd?
M: I’ve been sitting at my desk all week at work, so I’d really like to get some exercise.
W: What were you thinking? Jogging, swimming, other sports?
M: How do you feel about mountain biking? It can be lots of fun!
W: Sure, I love mountain biking!
M: Then maybe we can get some lunch afterwards.
W: That’s good. I don’t feel like cooking today and of course you can escape from doing the dishes. I want to get
something healthy, like a big green salad.
M: Okay, that sounds good.
W: Simone is having a party in the evening, do you want to go? We’re lucky to have such a good neighbor.
M: But everyone smokes and drinks at Simone’s parties. I don’t think it would be good for us. My friend Frankie is
having a get-together tonight too. Maybe that would be more fun?
W: Yeah, I think you’re right.
M: OK, let’s go get those bikes now!
(Text 10)
W: Hello. I’d like to share with everybody the great time that I had on my last vacation. I went to Conchal Beach
with my friends. We didn’t stay in tents as we usually do. We stayed at a small hotel right in front of the beach.
The first day we were there we took surfing lessons. My friends and I had so much fun hanging out at the beach.
The second day we swam in the sea and played beach volleyball together. We watched the sunset and we set a
fire at night. There was another beach nearby. Probably after a five-minute walk, you’ll be in Brasilito beach.
We spent most of the four days on the beach and we usually went to a club at night in a place called Tamarindo.
There is a beach in Tamarindo too. It was one of the most wonderful times I’ve had in my life.

with helping fill boxes for households in need with packaged food, this lowa teen felt that
something was missing from the donated items:fresh vegetables.
This kindhearted teen then told her parents about her desire to start a garden on part
of their family farm in Dixon, lowa,in order to supply local families in need with fresh produce.
The work involved in realizing Lauren's plan was not a walk in the park. While proud
of her daughter's idea and eager to support her project,Katie Schroeder, her mother,
admitted to some concern about the workload:"How much work is this going to be?"
This was one determined young change-maker,however!Lauren researched plants
online, checking which species needed more shade, how much water was required, and the
best times to harvest each crop.More importantly,Lauren didn't shy away from hard

two to three hours daily..She also checked daily for weeds(泰草)and bent(弯腰)down to
pick her green bean crop, the most challenging vegetable to harvest in her opinion.
With help from her family, she planted half an acre()of land, with 15 varieties of
vegetables in 2022,harvesting her first crops, totaling 40 pounds. The eight initial
beneficiaries included food banks,a nursing home, and a soup kitehen. In the past two
years, this admirable high school junior has donated more than 7,000 pounds of
homegrown produce, with an estimated value of US$15,000.
Explaining her motivation to local media,Lauren says:"I wanted to have something that

The Worcester Public Library in Worcester,Massachusetts, announced that through the end

photograph, drawing,or magazine clipping of a cat,and get their library cards reactivated.
The library calls the program March Meowness,a way for the system of seven
branches library to forgive members of the community who misplaced a book or damaged a
borrowed item, and then never went back to avoid paying for it.
In just a few days, the program has already generated hundreds of returns, multiple
postings of cat photographs on the library's Facebook page, and photographs and drawings
pinned on a growing "cat wall"in the main building.
The local Broadcasting Station,WBUR,described it as a "never be-fur(before)tried

Scientists exploring a marine trench()near Japan were astonished to find a fish at
8,336 meters below the surface. The creature is a type of snailfish, and it's probably the
deepest fish anyone will ever find. The previous record holder,a young snailfish seen in the
Mariana Trench,was filmed at a depth of 8,1 78 meters in 2017.
Fish survive under high pressures of extreme depths because of osmolytes in their cells
()The amount of osmolytes increases at greater depths to ensure fish cells don't
shrink()too much at enormous pressures, but the levels of the osmolytes reach their
highest at around8,400 meters. So that's the limit of fish physiology(生理机能).
Scientist Prosanta Chakrabarty is impressed that the fish could survive so far down,
where the water pressure is 800 times that of the surface."At that depth, everything from
gas exchange for breathing to almost every physiological function seems impossible,"he
says."I can barely swim to the bottom of a swimming pool without my ears popping."
Deep-sea scientist Alan Jamieson's team discovered the snailfish in August 2022 in the
Izu-Ogasawara Trench near Japan, which connects to the Mariana Trench in the south.
The deepest parts of the Japanese trench are slightly warmer than the waters at similar
depths in the Mariana, reaching about 1.7 degrees Celsius. The slight difference in temperature
seems to be why the snailfish survives.Osmolytes are less effective at low temperatures, and
these snailfish are living near the edge of what's possible.
The researchers used a"lander"-an underwater vehicle equipped with cameras-
to photograph the fish. The lander that made the finding photographed a single young
snailfish at 8,336 meters.
Over 400 species of snailfish are known from shallow waters to extreme depths, and
each species adapts to where it lives."Each trench has its own snailfish in it.Once they've
grown to cope in a trench, they cannot decompress()to get from one trench to
another, says Jamieson, who led the team that made the.discovery.And he also noted the
part played by technology in the discovery.
32.How does this snailfish differ from those living in shallow waters?
A.Its cells are much larger in size.
B.It moves at much slower speeds.
C.Its body contains many more osmolytes.D.It is able to live a much longer life.
33.What does Chakrabarty want to show by saying the underlined sentence in paragraph 3?
A.The snailfish's amazing ability to cope with enormous pressures.
B.The acceptable pressures at the bottom of a swimming pool.
C.The challenge of finding a fish at the deepest parts of a trench.
D.The great changes in pressure at different depths of water.
34.What makes it possible for the snailfish to break the 2017 record?
A.The trench's special structure.
B.The large amount of food.
C.The lower pressure.
D.The warmer water.
35.What would be the best title for the text?
A.A deeper understanding of unexplored trenches
B.How a strange-looking fish survives
C.How researchers explore the deep sea
D.The deepest fish ever recorded

There's one thing for certain-we're all getting older. And while the older among us
may be no spring chickens any more, growing old gracefully is no bad thing.36
However,as the world population ages, will there be enough people to replace our younger
selves?
A situation where there are more old people than young certainly has an effect on the
world.37.According to it,globally the number of people over 65 years old will triple
(增至三倍)by2050,greatly changing some countries'demographic make-up(人口组成).
This growing and dependent population means that there is an increased demand for
health and social care.Governments will struggle to provide satisfactory pensions(
)which are ultimately funded by taxes()paid by the working population. And
long-term,a smaller population of economically-active people may be a problem for
companies trying to employ staff.
38 The Pew Research Center survey found that 87%of Japanese people were
most concerned about it,while only 26%of people from the USA were anxious about it.
Here,immigration(移民)is helping to boost(使增长)the younger workforce,Some
countries thought the elderly should take care of themselves, while others thought it was
the responsibility of the family. Many thought the government should be responsible.
But old age shouldn't just be seen negatively.39 Some have wealth which they
can spend helping the economy. Some have the passion to help society by doing voluntary
or charity work.40.These include increasing the retirement age, encouraging people
to save for the future, persuading skilled and educated migrants to fill labour shortages,or
even convincing people to have more children.
A.A report was made by the Pew Research Center.
B.Of course, solutions are needed to solve the issue.
C.Therefore,an aging population leads to improvements that benefits all age groups.
D.Elderly people have knowledge and experience they can pass on.
E.With age comes wisdom.
F.Attitudes to an ageing population vary around the world.
G.The aging population presents an opportunity for economic diversification().

On the school bus back home,David sat there, recollecting the great soccer game he
played that day."Excuse me,may I sit here?"David was so deep in his own thoughts that
he didn't realize Guillermo, one of his classmates, had asked permission to sit next to him.
Guillermo was a true fan of David's game.David was everything he wanted to be.He
wanted to play like him, have tons of friends like him,and even wear those fancy soccer
shoes David was wearing.
Today, the shy boy finally found the courage to talk to his hero."Hi,David!I'm
Guillermo,your biggest fan.You're my hero.""Oh?Hi,Guillermo!Thank you."There
was an awkward silence..“L..really like your shoes!”Guillermo blurted(脱口而出)the
first thing that came to his mind.
"These? These are old.You should see the new shoes I'll be getting!"David's eyes lit
up,thinking about the dreamy sneakers(he had been saving up for. This was the
first time the 15-year-old wanted to buy something for himself. And he didn't want to
bother his mother. He had saved enough money from delivering newspapers and selling
lemonade.
"Tell me more about them!"Guillermo said, slowly hiding his feet under the seat.
"Well, they're perfect!Actually,I'm heading to the store right after homework this eve-
ning to buy them.Let's go together!"David said.Guillermo was truly happy for his idol
(偶像).

The.rest of the bus ride passed in silence. When they finally reached their stop,David
reminded Guillermo to meet at 5 o'clock. There was no way David was going to the store a-
