Unit 1 Section B 1a-2b阅读课教学设计 Text analysis Title: How are animals part of our lives? What The text of this unit focuses on ‘Animal friends’, which belongs to the theme of man and nature. This is a reading text, which introduces what the elephants look like, what they can do, what they are like, how to save them and so on through Malee’s post of her favorite animal. Why This material guided students to learn about some basic information of elephants. The process of discussion also leads students to learn to be kind to animals and create an awareness of respecting life, which promotes students’ critical thinking ability, enhances their social skills, and encourages collaborative discussions. This aligns with educational standards that emphasize communication, comprehension, and personal expression. How This material has a close connection with the big question in this unit --- Why are animals important? It uses pictures and mind map to sort out the basic information in the post, and also involves key words and phrases like playful, swimmer and look after. Through reading Mallee’s post, students are going to have a better understanding of the importance of animals. Teaching Purpose: At the end of this lesson, students will be able to: 1. identify the basic information of elephants through skimming the material; 2. retell the main idea of the text after completing the mind map; 3. explore the meaning of protecting animals through a group discussion. This activity is designed for Teaching Objective 3 · Talk and share Students are going to talk about their favourite animals and think about the meaning of protecting animals through a group discussion.
