Dear Mum,
Today is my birthday and it is the first birthday I have spent far away from home. I miss you very much.
A few days ago, my teacher Miss Li told us that her primary school teacher made a huge difference in her life. She told us how her teacher encouraged her. But she didn’t have a chance to tell her. She was sad about it. This made me think a lot, especially when I am thousands of kilometers away from home. I am writing you the letter because I want you to know how much I love you.
A friend once said that a person’s happiness was mostly because of the love received in the childhood. I agree with her. I still remember the times when you held my hand and counted steps with me as we walked along. You told me stories about the brave elephant and encouraged me to be a confident girl. In cool autumn, we took many walks along the street, chatting and laughing together. My childhood was filled with these warm memories.
Time flies and so much has happened. There have been good times and bad times, ups and downs, but you were always by my side. When I won the swimming prize, you smiled and said you were proud of me. When I failed my math exam, you said everything would be fine. Now, when I have problems, I always think of your words and they help me a lot.
You have always said that we should judge people’s success by how they live their lives every day. I think I’m living a successful life and it’s all because of you. Thank you, Mum.
Love,
Feifei

①A smartphone is a phone that combines (合并) things like a phone, clock, camera and computer into one small device (装置). It can make calls like a phone, but it can also access the Internet. Using the Internet, smartphones can play music, take pictures and videos, and check the weather in cities all around the world. But how did the age of smartphones begin?
②In 1992, the company IBM created the first smartphone. It was a phone that included a program for writing notes to remember things. The Blackberry was a phone with a keyboard that made it easy to use the Internet and send text messages and emails. The Blackberry was popular with people working in business or in technology. But common phone users still didn’t buy many of them.
⑤In 2007, Apple introduced the iPhone. Not long after that, in 2008, Google introduced the Android phone to the world. These new smartphones from Apple and Google were marketed to all phone users. The goal was to make the smartphone easy to use and something everyone would want. Just as hoped, less than 10 years later, there were over 2 billion smartphone users. Not only is it safe to say that smartphones are taking over the world, but there will soon be a time when people can’t remember when phones only made calls.

There is nothing better than a walk in the countryside for lifting our spirits. Getting close to nature can help us to be happy. For some people, the best way to improve our health is to walk slowly through a forest, but as we admire the trees around us, it’s worth knowing these trees are more than just nice things.
We have already known trees produce O₂ and clean the air we breathe by taking in CO₂. But there is more to trees than we might think. Researchers have discovered that they are actually intelligent.
It’s thought that trees talk and share things right under our feet, using a fungal network (真菌网络). Under the ground are tree roots (根), and thousands of very thin hyphae (菌丝) are among them. And research has shown that they are all connected with each other. They can help each other by sharing nutrients (营养) and they can even warn one another of the coming danger. Scientists say it’s like the trees are talking to one another.
Dr. Suzanne Simard has called this network the Wood Wide Web. She discovered that parent trees use this network to help their kids. Speaking to the BBC, she said, “We found that the parent trees would prefer to help those young plants of their own relatives compared with the young plants of the strangers by sending them more nutrients.”
So it seems that trees are really the stars of our natural world, and with so many of them on our planet, it’s time to show them some care if we want them to grow well.
根据短文内容,判断下列句子正(T)、误(F)。
41.The writer thinks staying outside with nature is good for us.
42.It is known that trees can take in CO₂ and produce O₂.

Some kids love handwriting, but others hate when it’s time to put their pens to paper. Maybe they are worried about their handwriting. Are you one of them? 46 Here are five steps that really work!
Get a great grasp (抓,握). Try this—hold your pencil at the top and try to write your name. Pretty hard? 47 The best way to hold a pen or pencil is to let it rest next to the base of your thumb (拇指). Hold it in place with your thumb, your index finger (食指) and middle finger.
Let the lines be your guide. Lined paper is your friend! Those lines can help you create letters that are the right size and proportion (均衡). 48 Also be sure to fill up the lined space completely. Those capital letters should be from the bottom line to the top one.
49 If your writing is hard to read, try slowing down a little. If you rush, it’s hard to control where you stop and start your letters.
Lower the pressure. 50 That makes it harder to make the smooth lines. Try relaxing and don’t hold the pencil too hard.
Play games. Lots of games require you to write or draw pictures. So even though it’s not schoolwork, you’re still using the skills you need to control your pen better.
阅读短文,把A~E五个句子填入文中空缺处,使短文内容完整。
A.Slow down.
B.So “a” should be half the height of a capital “A”.
C.Some kids press down really hard when they write.
D.The good news is that everyone can improve their handwriting.
E.But when you hold your pencil the correct way, writing is much easier.

Our youth group decided to do something nice for our city. We watched as a young woman drove to the gas station and parked her car. She didn’t get out of her car. Instead, she began looking through her wallet.
Then she put her hands and head on her steering wheel (方向盘) and began to cry. The youth leader told us to politely knock on the window and offer a free gas card to her.
Hearing the knock, the lady tried to calm herself down and then rolled down the window. I said to her, “Here is a free twenty-five-dollar gas card for you. We just want you to know that someone loves you.”
The young woman began to cry again. After calming down for the second time, she accepted the gas card and then told us her story. She was a single mom who had been out of a job for a long time. She was having trouble making ends meet but was hopeful about a job interview that day.
In fact, she was on her way to it. Her gas ran out, and she thought she had one last ten-dollar bill in her wallet. But she couldn’t find it. “Boys, you know how badly I need this job.” She looked at us and said, “You have no idea what you have done for me. Thank you so much!”
We went back to the youth leader and told him what had happened. The leader thought for a moment and then he gave us four more gas cards and a rose to give to the young mom. She was in surprise when we returned with the rose and the cards. “You all have done enough for me. I can’t take anything else from you.” We insisted (坚持), and she finally accepted the gifts.
We have continued the tradition of handing out roses and gas cards for the past twelve years. The action makes a difference in our lives because we get to take part in something that is bigger than ourselves. If you have a chance, why not have a try?
根据短文内容,回答下列问题。
51.Where did the writer meet the young woman?
52.Who gave advice on how to help the young woman?
53.How did the woman feel about the job interview?
54.What did the youth group give to the woman?

One Thing I’m Proud Of
I still remember how I became good at English.
Every English class used to be like a bad dream for me. I didn’t understand my teacher most of the time. One day, the teacher talked with me and gave me some useful advice. I began to review new words from time to time, even on the way to school. I read aloud to practice pronunciation. I watched English videos and kept a diary in English. Whenever I met new words, I looked them up in a dictionary. I kept using English every day. Practice makes perfect. About two months later, I got an “A” on the final exam.
I am really proud of this experience because it helps me realize that everyone can achieve their goals through hard work.

Dear Mum,
Today is my birthday and it is the first birthday I have spent far away from home.

【答案】例文
