California DREAM Loan Program
The California DREAM Loan Program, funded by the state and University of California,
aims to provide qualified undergraduates with the option to borrow loans to help cover the
expense of attending UC.
How it works
.A loan is borrowed money that you have to pay back with interest.
.Each UC campus will determine the amount a student can borrow based on available
funding and number of qualified students. The maximum amount of a loan is capped at

.You can borrow every year if you are a qualified student at UC or until you receive a
maximum of $20,000 in DREAM loans.
What you need to do
.Make sure you apply for financial aid by filing a Califomia Dream Act application. There
are no separate forms required to apply for the California DREAM Loan Program, but
you'll need to apply for financial aid every year to be considered for the DREAM Loan
Program.
.You may see a DREAM Loan offered as part of your financial aid award letter. You do not
need to accept the loan if you don't want to-it's not necessary.
.If you're interested in borrowing from the California DREAM Loan Program, but don't see

recently published study finds.
Scientists at the University of Valencia in Spain analyzed 26 previous studies, ach
exporing the ffect of leisure-time digital reading on comprehension. They found that digital
readingdoes improvecomprehension skills, but the beneficial effect of deep reading is between
six and seven times smaller than that of print reading, and it's smallest for children.
Great exposure to digital reading activities may prevent early readers from building firm
reading basics in a critical period.Digital texts tend to be much shorter and have worse linguistie
(语言学的)quality compared to printed works.Phones and computers also expose readers to
distractions()from social media,You tube, and video games.Because youth tend to have
poor impulse (control.they are more likely to be distracted than adults when engaging in
digital reading. They also are less likely to have mastered vocabulary and grammar rules.
With paper, there is a literal laying on of hands, along with the visual geography of distinct
pages.People often link their memory of what they've read to how far into the book it was or
where it was on the page. The more kids are exposed to print reading, the better able they are to
understand and recall what they are reading. Moreover,as young readers consume longer and
more complex texts, their reading skills improve, further boosting their abilities.
It is therefore recommended that parents and teachers limit kids'time with digital content,
or at least emphasize printed works or using basic e-readers with ink-screens.

C.Paper's physical properties.
B.Social Media's support.
31.What does the author imply in the last paragraph?
D.Kids'consumption of easy texts.
A.Basic e-readers can be promoted.
B.Print reading still has a place nowadays.

A watched pot never boils,but time flies when you're having fun.These all-too-familiar
sayings have a basis in solid scienceour sense of time expands and contracts()depending
on the way we experience the world around us.This is not just a general impression of time's
passage. It also has a great deal to do with psychology.
“There are a lot of illusions(错a觉)of time,.”says Martin Wiener,.ascientist at George
Mason University.Recently, his team have found that more memorable images seem to last
longer, and these lasting images also appear to be more memorable.Looking at red objects
makes time pass slower than staring at blue ones. The slowdown also occurs when inspecting
bigger and brighter objects.
To understand how the memorability of an image might relate to our sense of time, the team
conducted four experiments,in which participants were shown images with different time
periods. They were asked to hold down a button, either"short"or"long".to indicate the length
of time the image was displayed on the screen.Participants perceived that more memorable
images remained on the screen longer and that they were more likely to recall them later.
These results suggest that images aren't just more memorable if people look at them for a
longer time,a well-established effect.Images are also more memorable if people perceive that
they have looked for longer when they really haven't.This suggests that there is some
underlying factor that is causing both of these effects.
The team later found that more memorable images were processed faster. They help the
brain process more information in a limited time. This is especially relevant (to the
brain's visual system. With limited resources, the visual areas have to set priorities. In other
words, memorable images may be memorable because they're just easy for our systems to
process. Why faster processing would make time last longer is still a mystery, however. For now,
the most reasonable explanation for why our brain slows time is that it is increasing the amount
of information it can take in at once.

A.They have limited resources.

Here is how to develop creative insight even when you are in busy lives.
Find time to play.37Studies suggest that play at work boosts creative behavior
problem-solving abilities.Laughter and light-hearted activities,either a quick team game
playful brainstorming session have been shown to inspire creativity, which is essential
innovation.
38A creative idea probably doesn't happen when you are buried in a task.Instead it
comes to you while you are doing something relatively "mindless."Being extremely focused
can actually be harmful to innovative thinking. So,you can bake into your workflow brie

Before Christmas, we were piling up boxes of our own, planning a move. Among the boxes, the one we took over from Gee stood out. As I lifted the lid, antique Christmas ornaments came in sight. Heartwarming memories came flooding back. We couldn't help thinking of Tom's kind gesture of returning our garbage cans and Gee's stories of their life together. To us, she was like family, and we couldn't imagine how lonely she would feel during the Christmas without our company. The thought of parting with Gee was almost killing us.
Therefore, Jim and I decided to move after that year's Christmas celebration. We wanted to make that Christmas really special. We invited Gee over. The moment she stepped in, her eyes rested on the ornaments on the Christmas tree, and each was a piece of treasure she and Tom gathered over their lifetime, reminding her of all the good old days. As we gazed at the twinkling Christmas tree, it dawned on us that the true meaning of a tight-knit community was not just about living close to one another, but about weaving hearts together with love, kindness and mutual support.
