Zandra Cunningham is the founder of a skincare brand. She has been recognized by the
media as one of the youngest and most successful business owners in America.
When she was a kid,Zandra always loved lip balms(and bought a lot of them.
But she found they eventually hurt her lips instead of relieving the dryness because of all the
chemicals in them. She then started experimenting with different ingredients()together
with her mom. They tried a lot of times until they found the natural and healthy combinations
they liked.Slowly,Zandra began selling her products at local farmers'markets and trade
events. Before her 10th birthday, she launched her brand and hoped it would inspire other
young girls.
Soon,it became a challenge for Zandra to separate her personal interests from what her
customers usually wanted."There are a lot of ideas that I feel are excellent but wouldn't fit
into the market,"she said. Her business being part of the market,Zandra recognized the
issue and improved her products after truly listening to customers."There are so many brands
doing similar things, but there is still so much room to grow.Your customers are out there,
and you just have to reach out to them. That's what will set you apart,"the 23-year-old
shared.
When asked about her experience as a promising young businesswoman,Zandra said,"It
wasn't frightening. When you are young, fear doesn't have a strong hold on your mindset.
That maybe it was not going to work never really crossed my mind."
Characterized by encouraging statements and featuring a playful color combination, the
packaging is a big part of why Zandra's business has been so successful."There are a lot of
products on the market that seem natural, but they actually aren't,"she said."I make sure
that my packaging can help people understand what each term means, and how to read and
check ingredients.”
19.What contributed to Zandra's getting into the skincare business?
A.Her goal of providing local people with cheap skin products.
B.Her wish to give a hand to some poor girls.
C.Her interest in doing chemical experiments.
D.Her desire to create skin-friendly products.

Making eye contact with a robot can be a very strange experience.Scientists even have a name
for the feeling:the "mysterious valley".Now,researchers at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT)
in Italy have found that it is more than just a feeling. They ran an experiment that showed how a
robot's gaze()can trick people into thinking they are socially interacting with a human being.
That experience can slow a person's ability to make decisions.
"The gaze is an extremely important social signal,"said the lead writer,Professor
Agnieszka Wykowska,"The question is whether the robot's gaze will cause very similar
mechanisms(机制)in the human brain as a human's gaze would.”
The team asked 40 participants to play a video game of "chicken".Each player had to
decide whether to permit a car to run straight toward another car or to turn to avoid a crash.
The people played against a human-like robot sitting across from them.During breaks in the
game, players had to look at the robot.Sometimes the robot would look back and at other
times it would look away.As the interactions happened, the scientists collected data on
participants'behavior and brain activity.
"Our results show the gaze of the robot had an impact on the way humans made decisions
and humans'responses,so humans were much slower in making decisions in the game,"
Wykowska said.Given that the robot is designed to copy the shape and appearance of people,
it's not altogether surprising perhaps that its gaze can influence people's attention.
The findings could be useful for deciding where and how human-like robots might be
placed."When we understand when and how robots change people's social behavior, then we
can decide in which sort of context()this is desirable and beneficial for humans and in
which context something should not occur,"Wykowska said.
23.What did the robots do when participants looked at them during breaks?
A.They sat among the participants for a while.
B.They made eye contact with the participants.
C.They greeted the participants in a polite way.
D.They had a chat with the participants.
24.What is the key point of the study according to Wykowska?
A.How humans can control robots.
B.How robots react to human's gaze.
C.Whether robots and humans can think the same way.
D.Whether robots'gaze can have the same impact as humans'.
25.How should the player deal with the car in the game?
A.Whether it should keep away from another car.
B.When it should be filled up with gas.
C.What speed it should run at.
D.Where it should be parked.
26.What do the findings intend to state?
A.The working principle of human-like robots.
B.The application strategy of human-like robots.
C.The perfection of human-like robots'actions.
D.The improvement of human-like robots'assessment.

TikTok,which is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, has been known for its viral(
dance videos and pop music.31 Google data showed nearly 40 percent of people
born between 1997 and 2012 prefer TikTok for online searches.
"Compared with traditional search engines like Google,TikTok's powerful algorithm(

Czech Republic.

traditional search engines, she always lost her way in a sea of words.32 "All of the
videos I searched for surprisingly met my tastes and I could get the information I wanted very
quickly,”said Dana.
33 "On TikTok,you see what people ate and how they felt,"said Dana, adding that
a written review of a restaurant can't capture its sense of atmosphere, food or drinks.
Like Dana, many Gen Zers(Z)tend to search for lighter topics on Tik Tok.34
Izabelle Bullard from the US is one of them. The 19-year-old said she often searches for things
like celebrity news, recipes, fashion tips and entertainment recommendations on TikTok.
"Nevertheless, when forming my personal opinion on heated topics,I prefer to use Google to
gather more information from reputable media sources and organizations,"she added.
Even so,the trend of using images and videos during online searches like TikTok could
be here to stay, according to Adrienne Sheares,a social media consultant.35 Google also
tried an experiment to let users search by using both text and photos.
"Even if people aren't interested in,say,TikTok,I think what we are going to start to see is
more visual during online searches,"Sheares told ABC News.
A.Meanwhile, they leave the heavier topics to Google.
B.Young people like to try Internet-famous restaurants.
C.TikTok's funny videos also make some kids addicted.
D.He formed a Gen Z focus group to discuss their searching habits.
E.But TikTok's personalized videos helped her out of the situation.
F.Being able to see scenes of real people also makes Dana feel trust in them.
G.Now,it has become one of the biggest search engines among young people.

We live in a new age of storytelling, with a variety of new multimedia tools. Many young
people rely 52 them but they don't even realize they're new.

Spring Festival holiday.Before I accompanied him,a children's book 53 (buy)by me for
him to read.It had simple words and colorful pictures and was made 54 of ten instructive

father was also a rather 59 (enthusiasm)volunteer in our community.
Well,I may be old,but I'm not hopelessly challenged in terms of digital technology.I
edit video and produce audio().I use mobile payment.I've even built websites.
I am convinced that there's a difference between the old and the young in the digital age.I've

One morning in April, when I found something was wrong with Alice's mother,it
rained. It seemed as if the Texas sky were sobbing().I didn't know what kind of cancer
Mrs.Hastings had until later, but I knew her condition was serious-very serious.
I love Mr.and Mrs.Hastings almost as much as I love my own parents, and Alice is my
best friend. But I didn't want to go to school that day.And I sure didn't want to see Alice.
What could I possibly say to her? What do people say to their friends at such a time?I
tried every trick I knew to avoid going to school. But my mother insisted.
"You have a history test this morning,Linda,"she said, looking at me as if she'd
crawled into my mind and knew I was just making excuses. Then she smiled and said,"Be
sure to stay close to Alice, especially today, because that poor girl is going to need your
strength.”
Strength? What was Mother talking about?I had no strength.I didn't even know what to
say to my best friend.I hid out in the reading room between classes in the hope of avoiding
meeting with Alice, but she was never out of my thoughts.I kept trying to come up with
something appropriate to say to her because I really wanted to get it right.
Alice and I had the last class in Mrs.Green's class.I'd avoided seeing her all day,I was
going to have to face her in the last period, and I still didn't have a plan. However,I worried
needlessly because Alice never showed up for class. When the English class was over,Mrs.
Green said,"Linda,Alice Hastings is your best friend, and she is coming here in a few
minutes to get her lesson assignments."
It seemed as if something was torturing()my heart and I trembled inwardly.I still
didn't know what to say to Alice, and time was running out.

写作
One possible version:
I left the classroom, racing down the hall and out of the front gate of our school. It had stopped raining,
and the air smelt clean and fresh. In the distance I spotted someone coming toward me,stumbling toward the
campus. With the head drooping down.I knew it was Alice even though I couldn't see her face.Maybe she
hadn't seen me.Maybe if I ran back inside and hid somewhere again, she wouldn't find me.As she was
approaching,I noticed how Alice's shoulders shook with every step she took. She must be crying. The rain
came down again.Raindrops were mixed with my tears.Alice's heart was breaking, and I wasn't doing a thing
to help her!
As I drew nearer to her,my throat tightened, making it impossible to speak.A deep ache filled my heart.
I prayed for strength, the strength my mother claimed I already had,and I forced myself to move forward, arms
outstretched."Oh.Linda,"Alice cried."I was hoping it would be you."We hugged then,but I still couldn't
utter a sound. It was then that I learned something that I might never have grasped in any other way.I'd been
always focusing on me:What should I do?How should I act? What will I say to Alice? But when we finally
came face to face,I forgot to care about myself and centered on Alice and her needs.Only when I did that was I
able to share Alice's grief.I wished to let her know that she was special and that I really cared about her.
