2. W: Another cup of coffee? That’s your third since lunch. You must be really thirsty.
M: Well , I stayed up very late last night preparing for my paper. I just want to keep myself awake.

M: Yes. Follow the path running along the river to the bridge. You will see a park beside it.

第二节
6-7 【原文】
W: It’s great that you’re coming to visit us at last, Mark.
M: Yeah. After communicating by email for so long, it will be good to meet.
W: Sorry I can’t come to the airport but Sam, my brother, will be there. He’s quite tall and he’s got short hair and he wears glasses.
M: OK. Tell Sam I’ve got dark hair and dark eyes. I’m quite slim and not very tall.
W: All right. You’ll have your mobile anyway. I’ll give you his number.
M: All right.
8-9【原文】
M: Hello.
W: Hello, Tom. This is Susan. Henry and I want to play baseball in the stadium tomorrow morning. Would you like to join us?
M: Well, I’d love to, but I have a lot of homework to do.
W: Oh, come on, Tom. It’ll be great fun and make you relax.
M: I really can’t. You know, I have a chemistry exam on Monday and a book report which must be finished on Tuesday and handed in on Wednesday. I don’t think I’d enjoy it much.
W: It’s up to you. Maybe next time. Good luck in your exam.
10-12【原文】
M: Can I help you, madam?
W: I think I’ll just have a vegetable salad and a cup of lemon tea.
M: Is that all?
W: Yes. I’m overweight, so I want a low-fat diet. My doctor said that my heart suffers a lot from my weight and I have to change my lifestyle and lose at least 30 pounds to keep it working properly.
M: Do you plan not to eat anything but vegetable salad?
W: No. I can eat fruit and some beef, but most importantly, I should never eat any fried food .
M: Then probably you won’t try the delicious cakes served here.
W: That’ s true.
13-16【原文】
W: The sports meeting is in six weeks actually. Let’s work out a training schedule for you.
M: OK, what should I do?
W: Let’s see. For the first two weeks, you should do three or four workouts every week. You need to bike, swim and run once a week.
M: OK. So I will bike on Monday, swim on Wednesday and run on Friday.
W: Sounds good!
M: Then what’s next?
W: Then it’s the second period. It’ll be time to increase to five or six long workouts a week. Maybe you can run a mini-marathon.
M: Wow, that’s a lot of work to do. I’m afraid I can’t manage it.
W: But you’ll be healthier after the first period, and get used to doing that.
M: I really hope so. Maybe starting from Week 3, I’ll change the exercising time to make it more interesting.
17-20【原文】
Hi, my name is Jack. I like my senior high school life. I’m a grade 10 student. I’d like to talk about my courses. On Mondays, I have four classes in the morning and two classes in the afternoon. The first class is maths. I like maths. It’s easy. There are twenty-three students in my maths class, including a few exchange students who come from different nations. Chemistry is a bit boring, and there are twenty students in that class. The teacher likes to wear formal clothes and he looks nice. My English class is small. Our English teacher always gives great lectures and I think it’s fun to speak English. Science is the biggest class. There are thirty students in that class — twenty boys and ten girls. Science is very hard, though. Each class, we have a test. I don’t like that! The first class in the afternoon is physics and I like it best. The last class of the day is music, and we are active in that class.

Skiing Activity at Tianding Mountain during the Campus Ice Festival
On the morning of December 26th, a group of students and teachers from our school set off for Tianding Mountain by bus. The mountain, known for its beautiful snow - covered scenery, was the perfect place for this winter sports event.
Upon arrival, professional coaches provided guidance. They taught us basic skiing skills and led us to experience different skiing modes. Some students started with the gentle slopes, while others tried more challenging ones.
This activity not only enabled students to enjoy the fun of skiing but also helped us feel the unique charm of ice and snow in Changchun. We all had a great time and look forward to more such events in the future.

One night, as I was driving down the road, I found something was sitting in the middle of the road. A few seconds later, I realised I was looking at a large turtle. Afraid of it being crashed by cars, I pulled over, ran across the road and dragged the turtle to safety. But I’d made one big mistake.
I had heard that the best way to pick up a turtle without hurting it was picking it by the tail in order not to get bitten. So I’d made that big mistake. While the turtle turned out OK generally, I was determined to figure out how to move a turtle properly. I needed to find someone who dealt with turtles. I found the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre. I talked to Dr Sue, its Executive and Medical Director.
Dr Sue told me that the organization dealt with a number of aspects of turtle conservation, including rescue, settlement, birth programs, research, and education. Sue explained that southern Ontario is home to a vast majority of turtles in Canada, but is also one of the vastest road networks of the country.
“Ninety percent of injured turtles brought in are caused by cars. These turtles spend a lot of time on land. And they do travel many kilometres on land for a variety of reasons, to find a nesting spot, or to hang out for the summer or winter. Turtles know where they want to go. So, just keep them going in the direction they want to go and you may have saved a turtle’s life, ” Dr Sue said.
Once an injured turtle arrives at the centre, there are medical facilities (设备) ready to go, including an X-ray machine. That’s when the team gets to work with healing injuries, and help their patient.
24.Why did the author stop the car?
A.To help the turtle.
B.To see the thing clearly.
C.To prevent a car accident.
D.To find something good.
25.What happened to the turtle?
A.It got hurt by people previously.
B.It lost its direction.
C.It was run over by a car.
D.It was injured a little bit by the author.
26.What did Dr Sue suggest at last?
A.Leaving the turtles alone.
B.Making Ontario home to turtles.
C.Changing the road conditions.
D.Helping turtles find nesting spots.
27.What does the underlined word “patient” refer to in the last paragraph?
A.The director. B.The turtle.
C.The author. D.The driver.

Many high school students consider a college education useless. Therefore, they choose not to go to college. If you’re one of them, think again. Here are some reasons why you should go to college and receive a good education there.
Schools and universities are the first sources of knowledge. We take that knowledge later on to build our careers after graduation. More knowledge will be gained after you start working, but without an education, that job will not be within easy reach. Knowledge leads to knowledge.
While limited within the walls of the educational institutions (机构), we openly explore other cultures of the world. We come to know that ours is not the only culture. Other cultures have valuable things to share, enriching our own at last. Education also makes us want to travel and experience various cultures, broadening our horizons.
When there’s a downturn (衰退) in the economy, those who attended college will be more likely to find a new job than those who only finished grade school and have a limited skill set. The more education you have, the more chances you will get to improve the quality of your life as you have a better job and earn a higher salary.
When you’re skillful and knowledgeable, you get to get in touch with people of similar backgrounds and tastes. It means a good education leads to excellent networking. Good networking can benefit you a lot in your later life.
A good education makes you a more interesting and confident person. You can talk about ideas and events instead of just listening to other people. An educated person doesn’t gossip (说闲话), has a preference to discuss ideas and listens to what other people have to say.
28. Why do some students choose not to go to college according to paragraph 1?
A. They can’t afford it. B. They have enough knowledge.
C. They don’t realize its value. D. They are not interested in education.
29. What do we need knowledge for?
A. Basing our career on. B. Understanding life better.
C. Keeping in touch with people. D. Making us easy to get along with.
30. What will a good education help one to do when the economy is bad?
A. Find a new job. B. Connect with people.
C. Be a funny person. D. Enjoy various cultures.
31. What is the best title of the text?
A. Sources of Knowledge B. Disadvantages of Not Being Educated
C. Benefits of Attending College D. Reasons Why People Think College Useless
D
An exhibition (展览) of paintings of ancient Chinese characters was held on July 13 in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, with the aim of promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Based on the classic I Ching or The Book of Changes (《易经》), the exhibition brought together the art of Ethiopia’s Dawit Muluneh and famous calligrapher Wu Jiuyi, who produced examples of calligraphy on the spot.
Speaking at the event, its organizer Gossa Oda says the exhibition was an opportunity to show cultural commonalities (文化共性) and shared knowledge between the two countries. “In organizing this exhibition, I wanted to communicate the ancient mystery of I Ching, which helps improve connectivity between Ethiopia and China and promote their shared future. A shared future starts from shared knowledge,” says Oda, who is also the owner of the Medemer Africa Art and Sculpture Space, where the 64 paintings are housed.
Oda says such an exhibition would strengthen people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges, stressing the importance of knowledge and civilizations for human development.
The paintings describes the 64 divinatory (占卜的) symbols found in I Ching, which represent the day-to-day interaction between man and nature. “They are meant to share knowledge and feelings with visitors, and descriptions are written in Chinese, English and Amharic.” says Muluneh, who painted all 64 paintings in a year. He says the exhibition can be considered a stepping stone to promote cultural exchange and create mutual situations for common development between the peoples of China and Ethiopia.
“The backgrounds of the paintings make use of Ethiopian styles and express the ideas of heaven, harvest, and relief, among others,” says Muluneh, who drew similarities and absorbed essential parts from the traditional arts of both countries.
In an interview, Wu says that he was taken by surprise when he saw an Ethiopian artist painting Chinese characters. The exhibition attracted members of the Chinese community in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian artists and painters, and school children.
32. What’s the main purpose of the exhibition held in Addis Ababa?

D. To celebrate the cooperation between Dawit Muluneh and Wu Jiuyi.
