(24-25高二上·黑龙江哈尔滨·期末)Want to know what is coming soon to a cinema near you? Probably not an hour-and-a-half-long movie, like the old days. This year audiences have experienced the longest of several film series. Moreover, “Oppenheimer” Christopher Nolan’s three-hour movie, required 11 miles of film stock for Imax showings. Even film enthusiasts struggle to concentrate for that long. When watching the movie, some viewers sat nodding. Afterwards there was a mad rush and a long line for the toilets. When did watching a film become such hard work?
Film-makers began mass-producing lengthy pictures in the early 1960s. Cinema was developing and directors wanted to distinguish their art from television. Epics (史诗电影) were on the silver screen, including “Lawrence of Arabia” (1962), which surpassed the three-and-a-half-hour mark. Runtimes of popular films went up and down over the following decades. But they have ballooned since 2018.
Franchises (特许经销权) are one driver of this trend. Studios want to make the most out of their costly intellectual property, but they are competing with streaming platforms for eyeballs. The hope is that a long-drawn-out “event” movie will attract audiences away from the small screen and into cinemas. This approach has often paid off: “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), Marvel’s three-hour superhero film, is second-highest-grossing (票房第二高的) film in history. In 2022 long movies made up most of the highest-grossing films in America. Another explanation for longer films has to do with directors’ growing influence. Who would dare tell the likes of Mr. Nolan to cut back his masterpieces?
Anything that attracts people off their sofas to see a film in theatres is good news for cinemas. But long runtimes also pose a “fundamental problem”, complains Clare Binns, managing director of Picturehouse, a British cinema group and film distributor. Long movies can mean giving up two showings per night, which hurts ticket sales and profits.

They were drawn from a help center with intellectual (智力的) disabilities in Yueyang, Hunan province. Last year, the band was formed under the guidance of the center’s instructor Peng Xiaokang.

(24-25高二上·河南·阶段练习)On Wednesday, Brazilian artist Mundano presented a massive street mural (壁画) in Sao Paulo that used ash (灰烬) from wildfires and mud (泥土) from floods to highlight extreme weather events across the country as well as their causes.
Over 30 meters high and 48 meters wide, the mural showed deforestation and severe drought in the Amazon Rainforest with its dry brown earth and gray tree stumps (树桩). It featured the native activist Alessandra Korap holding a sign that said, “Stop the destruction. Keep your promise.”
It was a call to the Minnesota-based soy giant Cargill, according to Mundano. Soy farming is one of the biggest drivers of deforestation in the Amazon. Cargill said on its website that it would stop deforestation from its supply chain in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay by 2025. But Mundano wished the company to stop cutting trees immediately.
Drought has caused a critical situation nationwide, and forecasts indicate it will persist in much of the country through at least the rest of the month, according to a Sunday report from Cemaden, Brazil’s disaster warning center.

(24-25高二上·湖北·阶段练习)Decades ago, my friend Caetlin received an unusual assignment from the poet Robert L. Hass, her then undergraduate literature professor. He instructed each student to memorize at least ten poems — not for any exam, he claimed, but to prepare them for their unavoidable future living alone. At some point, Caetlin recalled him saying, “you’re going to be alone, and poetry is going to be all you have.”
The task was strange, because memorizing a poem feels curiously old-fashioned in an era when few of us encounter poetry at all. When I was in graduate school, working toward a degree in English literature, I mostly concentrated on prose (散文). It was only in my 40s that I began to change my ways.
It happened on a flight to Seattle. For hours, I read nothing but a poem. Sometimes I spoke its lines aloud; sometimes I went through the whole poem, and sometimes I repeated a single part over and over, and by the time my plane landed, I had all 40 lines in my head. The boredom of simple repetition reduces the real charm a poem has. Thus, memorizing a great poem always feels like a crime. But as you run your hands through the book, the lines at last come together again, and the text transforms back into a treasure, often a more valuable one than it was before.
In other words, poetry comes down by becoming a part of those who read it. It can do so only because it is so specific and entirely different from us, expanding our own sense of what we are when we read poems.
Some of the poems I’ve memorized are already fading, and that’s fine. I know that if I spend a little time with them, they’ll sing in me again. I won’t promise you that memorizing poetry will make your life better, but it will make you more: more in touch with language, with other minds, maybe with what you might yet become.
21.What did Robert L. Hass suggest students do?
A.Write original poetry. B.Study poetry for exams.
C.Read more classical prose works. D.Memorize poems for future loneliness.
22.Why does the author say that memorizing a poem begins as a crime?
A.It feels boring and outdated. B.It takes away poems’ beauty.
C.It is difficult and requires a lot of time. D.It is strange to read poems on the plane.
23.What can be inferred about the author’s relationship with poetry?
A.The author prefers prose to poems. B.The author shows no interest in poems.
C.The author finds value in memorizing poems. D.The author memorizes poems to win an award.
24.What is the author’s attitude towards memorizing poetry in the last paragraph?
A.Skeptical. B.Appreciative. C.Indifferent. D.Critical.

They thought it was just a pastime and couldn't bring any practical benefits. Jack's parents also hoped that he could find a stable job rather than indulging in painting all day. However, Jack didn't give up. He went to the city to study painting after graduating from high school. In the city, he met many famous painters and artists, and his painting skills improved rapidly.
1.What do we know about “Oppenheimer”?
A.It bored some viewers.
B.It was made as a film series.
C.It satisfied many film enthusiasts.
D.Some viewers nodded to express their admiration.
2.Why did directors turn to epics in the 1960s?
A.To set their works apart from those on television.
B.To adopt a new approach to telling stories on screen.
C.To save the film industry from declining.
D.To breathe new life into the classics.
3.Why does the author mention “Avengers: Endgame” in paragraph 3?
A.To recommend it to readers.
B.To compare it with Nolan’s masterpieces.
C.To stress the importance of franchises.
D.To prove the success of long movies.
4.What is Clare Binns’s attitude to long films?
A.Favorable. B.Tolerant. C.Critical D.Unclear.
【答案】1.A 2.A 3.D 4.C

根据第一段中“The harmonious flow of music made it hard for the audience to imagine that it was a band made up of people with intellectual disabilities.
根据第四段中“It takes them a bit longer time to master the songs, but Peng doesn’t mind. “There is no shortcut but patience,” he says.
根据第五段““Their performance has inspired many families just like theirs,” Peng says, adding that many people with intellectual disabilities are “stuck” at home with nothing to do.
通读全文,尤其是第一段中“The harmonious flow of music made it hard for the audience to imagine that it was a band made up of people with intellectual disabilities.
The depth of the Amazon’s Negro River was 12. 46 meters on Tuesday, a slight increase from 10 days earlier, when it registered its lowest level since measurements started 122 years ago. Tuesday’s depth was still around 6 meters less than usual for the same date in prior years, according to data from the Manaus port. Rivers in Brazil’s Amazon always rise and fall with its rainy and dry seasons. But the dry season this year is much worse than usual.
Earlier this year, a flood in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul killed more than 180 people, affected over 2 million people and destroyed urban communities.
“From droughts to floods, everything is connected!” Mundano said in a post on Tuesday, accompanied by a video showing the mural in Sao Paulo, which the artist said was his biggest ever.
17.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The harm of climate change. B.The access to the Amazon Rainforest.
C.The introduction of n painting. D.The achievement of Alessandra Korap.
18.What did Mundano think of Cargill’s online statement?
A.Boring B.Entertaining. C.Demanding. D.Unsatisfying.
19.What does the underlined word “persist” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Continue. B.Disappear. C.Work. D.Shine.
20.What can we infer from the text?
A.People should keep their promises. B.Natural disasters cannot be ignored.
C.Learning drawing is a difficult process. D.People should adapt to the environment.
【答案】17.C 18.D 19.A 20.B
根据第二段“Over 30 meters high and 48 meters wide, the mural showed deforestation and severe drought in the Amazon Rainforest with its dry brown earth and gray tree stumps (树桩). It featured the native activist Alessandra Korap holding a sign that said, ‘Stop the destruction. Keep your promise.’
根据第三段“Cargill said on its website that it would stop deforestation from its supply chain in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay by 2025. But Mundano wished the company to stop cutting trees immediately.
根据划线词所在句“Drought has caused a critical situation nationwide, and forecasts indicate it will persist in much of the country through at least the rest of the month, according to a Sunday report from Cemaden, Brazil’s disaster warning center. 中“will”和“through at least the rest of the month”可推知,干旱仍将持续,划线词persist意为“持续”,与Continue意思相近。故选A项。
通读全文,结合第一段中“On Wednesday, Brazilian artist Mundano presented a massive street mural (壁画) in Sao Paulo that used ash (灰烬) from wildfires and mud (泥土) from floods to highlight extreme weather events across the country as well as their causes .(周三,巴西艺术家蒙达诺在圣保罗展示了一幅巨大的街头壁画,该壁画使用了野火的灰烬和洪水的泥土来突出全国各地的极端天气事件及其原因。)”、第四段中“Drought has caused a critical situation nationwide... 和第六段中“Earlier this year, a flood in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul killed more than 180 people, affected over 2 million people and destroyed urban communities.
D.Critical.
