There’s one answer.    36   . In the Digital Age, we’re used to having what we need immediately and right at our fingertips. However, research suggests that if we practiced patience, we'd be a whole lot better off. Here are several tricks. ●Practice gratitude (感激)Thankfulness has a lot of benefits: Research shows it makes us happier, less stressed and evenmore optimistic.    37    . “Showing thankfulness can foster self-control,” said Ye Li, researcher at the University of California. ●Make yourself waitInstant gratification (满足) may seem like the most “feel good” option at the time, but psychology research suggests waiting for things actually makes us happier in the long run. And the only way for us to get into the habit of waiting is to practice.    38   . Put off watching your favorite show until the weekend or wait 10 extra minutes before going for that cake. You’ll soon find that the more patience you practice, the more you start to apply it to other, more annoying situations. ●     39   . So many of us have the belief that being comfortable is the only state we will tolerate, and when we experience something outside of our comfort zone, we get impatient about the circumstances. You should learn to say to yourself, “     40   .” You’ll then gradually become more patient. A. Find your causes B. Start with small tasks C. Accept the uncomfortable D. All this adds up to a state of hurry E. It can also help us practice more patience F. This is merely uncomfortable, not intolerable G. They’re all situations where we could use a little extra patience 答案:36.G 37.E 38.B 39.C 40. G项中的They指代上文中的traffic jams, long lines and waiting for a vacation to start。 37. E。 Put off watching your favorite show until the weekend or wait 10 extra minutes before going for that cake是两个锻炼等待的例子,因此设空处应给出锻炼等待的方法且与生活中的小事有关,故B项“从小任务开始”符合语境。 39. C。 C项中的uncomfortable呼应下文中的outside of our comfort zone。 40. F。 You should learn to say to yourself和下文You’ll then gradually become more patient可知,设空处的话语应与鼓励自己学会接受不适有关,故F项“这只是让人感到不舒服,并不是无法忍受的”符合语境。 Unit 4 Never too old to learn tolerate(容忍)、tolerant(宽容的)、tolerance(宽容)为 Unit 1 核心词汇,文中“the only state we will tolerate”直接考查其“容忍”义;gratitude(感激)与 Unit 1 的 virtue(美德)形成语义关联;patience/impatient 与 Unit 4 中自我调节、反思成长话题相关;circumstances(情况、环境)与 Unit 2 中理解他人、情境分析语义场相通。 Practice gratitude—Make yourself wait—Accept the uncomfortable,分别对应“感激—等待—接受不适”三条策略;利用代词指代(They 指代前文 traffic jams, long lines, waiting; It 指代 thankfulness; This 指代 uncomfortable 状态)和逻辑衔接词(However, So, And)确定选项;段内“问题—对策—结果”逻辑链(如“不适—学会说 merely uncomfortable, not intolerable—逐渐更有耐心”)是解题的重要依据。 2. (2022·浙江1月首考·A篇阅读) For nearly a decade now, Merebeth has been a self-employed pet transport specialist. Her pet transport job was born of the financial crisis(危机)in the late 2000s. The downturn hit the real estate (房地产)firm where she had worked for ten years as an office manager. The firm went broke and left her looking for a new job. One day, while driving near her home, she saw a dog wandering on the road, clearly lost. She took it home, and her sister in Denver agreed to take it. This was a loving home for sure, but 1, 600 miles away. It didn’t take long for Merebeth to decide to drive the dog there herself. It was her first road trip to her new job. wanderlust. It has taken her to every state in the US except Montana, Washington and Oregon, she says proudly. If she wants to visit a new place, she will simply find a pet with transport needs there. She travels in all weathers. She has driven through 55 mph winds in Wyoming, heavy flooding and storms in Alabama and total whiteout conditions in Kansas. This wanderlust is inherited from her father, she says. She moved their family from Canada to California when she was one year old, because he wanted them to explore a new place together. As soon as she graduated from high school she left home to live on Catalina Island off the Californian coast, away from her parents, where she enjoyed a life of sailing and off-road biking. It turns out that pet transporting pays quite well at about $30, 000 per year before tax. She doesn’t work in summer, as it would be unpleasantly hot for the animals in the car, even with air conditioning. As autumn comes, she gets restless—the same old wanderlust returning. It’s a call she must heed alone, though. Merebeth says, “When I am on the road, I’m just in my own world. I’ve always been independent-spirited and I just feel strongly that I mush help animals.” 21.Why did Merebeth changed her job? A.She wanted to work near her home.  B.She was tired of working in the office.  C.Her sister asked her to move to Denver. D.Her former employer was out of business. 22.The word “wanderlust” in paragraph 2 means a desire to             ? A.make money.             B. try various jobs. C. be close to nature.             D. travel to different places. 23.What can we learn about Merebeth in her new job?  A.She has chances to see rare animals.  B.She works hard throughout the year.  C.She relies on herself the whole time.  D.She earns a basic and tax-free salary. D 22. D 23. 根据第一段中“The downturn hit the real estate (房地产)firm where she had worked for ten years as an office manager. The firm went broke and left her looking for a new job.(她曾在一家房地产公司做了 10 年的办公室经理,经济低迷打击了这家公司。 公司破产了,她只好另寻新工作)”,可知,Merebeth 之所以换工作,是因为她以前的雇主破产了。故选 D。 【22 题详解】词义猜测题。根据第二段中“It has taken her to every state in the US except Montana, Washington and Oregon, she says proudly. If she wants to visit a new place, she will simply find a pet with transport needs there. She travels in all weathers.(她自豪地说,除了蒙大拿州、华盛顿州和俄勒冈州,她走遍了美国所有的州。如果她想去一个新的地方,她只需要找到一个有交通需要的宠物。 她风雨无阻地旅行)”,可知,划线词的意思是“渴望去不同的地方旅行”。故选 D。 【23 题详解】推理判断题。根据最后一段中“When I am on the road, I'm just in my own world. I've always been independent-spirited and I just feel strongly that I mush help animals.(当我在路上的时候,我只是在自己的世界里。 我一直很独立,我强烈地觉得我必须帮助动物)”,可知,Merebeth 在她的新工作中一直都是靠自己。故选 C。 【思维建模】本文为(2022·浙江1月首考·A篇阅读)人物记叙文,主题为“职业选择与独立精神”,讲述Merebeth因房地产公司倒闭而转行做宠物运输、在旅行中保持独立自我的故事,与选择性必修四 Unit 3 Careers and skills 的职业规划、职业选择、薪资待遇话题高度契合。核心词汇 salary(薪金)在文中直接出现——“about $30,000 per year before tax”,考查“税前年薪”的语境理解;employ/hire(雇用)与文中 self-employed(自雇的、个体经营的)形成派生关联;occupation(职业)、labour(劳动)、financial(金融的)与“financial crisis”“real estate firm”等职业经济类语境相通;Unit 1 Wish you were here 的旅行文化探索主题与文中 wanderlust(旅行癖、漫游欲)及“every state in the US”相呼应;Unit 4 Never too old to learn 中 mature/self-worth/independent 等自我成长词汇与文中“independent-spirited”形成语义关联;Unit 2 Understanding each other 的 empathy/sympathy 与文中“help animals”的共情动机相关。 3. (2023·新高考I卷·阅读理解D篇) On March 7, 1907, the English statistician Francis Galton published a paper which illustrated what has come to be known as the “wisdom of crowds” effect. The experiment of estimation he conducted showed that in some cases, the average of a large number of independent estimates could be quite accurate. This effect capitalizes on the fact that when people make errors, those errors aren’t always the same. Some people will tend to overestimate, and some to underestimate. When enough of these errors are averaged together, they cancel each other out, resulting in a more accurate estimate. If people are similar and tend to make the same errors, then their errors won’t cancel each other out. In more technical terms, the wisdom of crowds requires that people’s estimates be independent. If for whatever reasons, people’s errors become correlated or dependent, the accuracy of the estimate will go down. But a new study led by Joaquin Navajas offered an interesting twist (转折) on this classic phenomenon. The key finding of the study was that when crowds were further divided into smaller groups that were allowed to have a discussion, the averages from these groups were more accurate than those from an equal number of independent individuals. For instance, the average obtained from the estimates of four discussion groups of five was significantly more accurate than the average obtained from 20 independent individuals. In a follow-up study with 100 university students, the researchers tried to get a better sense of what the group members actually did in their discussion. Did they tend to go with those most confident about their estimates? Did they follow those least willing to change their minds? This happened some of the time, but it wasn’t the dominant response. Most frequently, the groups reported that they “shared arguments and reasoned together”. Somehow, these arguments and reasoning resulted in a global reduction in error. Although the studies led by Navajas have limitations and many questions remain, the potential implications for group discussion and decision-making are enormous. 1.What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about? A.The methods of estimation. B.The underlying logic of the effect. C.The causes of people’s errors. D.The design of Galton’s experiment. 2.Navajas’ study found that the average accuracy could increase even if ________. A.the crowds were relatively small B.there were occasional underestimates C.individuals did not communicate D.estimates were not fully independent 3.What did the follow-up study focus on? A.The size of the groups. B.The dominant members. C.The discussion process. D.The individual estimates. 4.What is the author’s attitude toward Navajas’ studies? A.Unclear. B.Dismissive. C.Doubtful. D.Approving. 根据第二段内容“This effect capitalizes on the fact that when people make errors, those errors aren’t always the same. Some people will tend to overestimate, and come to underestimate. When enough of these errors are averaged together, they cancel each other out, resulting in a more accurate estimate. If people are similar and tend to make the same errors, then their errors won’t cancel each other out. In more technical terms, the wisdom of crowds requires that people’s estimates be independent. If for whatever reasons, people s errors become correlated or dependent, the accuracy of the estimate will go down. 根据第二段的“In more technical terms, the wisdom of crowds requires that people’s estimates be independent. (从更专业的角度来说,群众的智慧要求人们的估计是独立的)”和第三段的“The key finding of the study was that when crowds were further divided into smaller groups that were allowed to have a discussion, the averages from these groups were more accurate than those from an equal number of independent individuals. For instance, the average obtained from the estimates of four discussion groups of five was significantly more accurate than the average obtained from 20 independent individuals. (这项研究的关键发现是,当人群被进一步划分为允许进行讨论的小组时,这些小组的平均值比同等数量的独立个体的平均值更准确。例如,从四个五人讨论组的估计中获得的平均值明显比从20个独立个体获得的平均值更准确)”可知,人们在没有独立的情况下,分成更小群体,平均值是更准确的,说明即使在估计数字并非完全独立的情况下,准确率提高也是可以做到的。故选D。 3.推理判断题。根据第四段的“In a follow-up study with 100 university students, the researchers tried to get a better sense of what the group members actually did in their discussion. They’re all situations where we could use a little extra patience 【思维建模】本文为(2022·新高考I卷·七选五)说明文,标题“Tricks To Becoming A Patient Person”,主题为“如何培养耐心”,属于心理健康与自我成长话题,与选择性必修四 Unit 4 Never too old to learn 的“终身学习、自我提升、认知发展”主题高度契合。tolerate(容忍)、tolerant(宽容的)、tolerance(宽容)为 Unit 1 核心词汇,文中“the only state we will tolerate”直接考查其“容忍”义;gratitude(感激)与 Unit 1 的 virtue(美德)形成语义关联;patience/impatient 与 Unit 4 中自我调节、反思成长话题相关;circumstances(情况、环境)与 Unit 2 中理解他人、情境分析语义场相通。七选五解题关键是抓住小标题结构:Practice gratitude—Make yourself wait—Accept the uncomfortable,分别对应“感激—等待—接受不适”三条策略;利用代词指代(They 指代前文 traffic jams, long lines, waiting; It 指代 thankfulness; This 指代 uncomfortable 状态)和逻辑衔接词(However, So, And)确定选项;段内“问题—对策—结果”逻辑链(如“不适—学会说 merely uncomfortable, not intolerable—逐渐更有耐心”)是解题的重要依据。 2. 【思维建模】本文为(2023·新高考I卷·阅读理解D篇)科普说明文,主题为“群体智慧效应”(wisdom of crowds)及其在小组讨论中的新发现,属于群体决策、认知推理与科学研究话题,与选择性必修四 Unit 4 Never too old to learn 的“认知发展、推理判断、学习方式”主题高度契合,同时与 Unit 2 Understanding each other 的“讨论、沟通、理解他人”话题相通。statistic/statistician(统计数字/统计学家)为 Unit 4 核心词汇,文中“the English statistician Francis Galton”直接出现;reasoning(推理)为 Unit 4 核心词汇,文中“shared arguments and reasoned together”直接考查“推理、论证”;assumption(假定、假设)为 Unit 4 核心词汇,与文中“requires that people’s estimates be independent”的假设逻辑相关;objective(客观的)为 Unit 4 阅读词汇,与科学研究客观性语义场相通;engage sb in discussion(使某人参与讨论)为 Unit 2 重点短语,与文中“allowed to have a discussion”直接呼应;cooperate/cooperation(合作)为 Unit 1 核心词汇,与群体协作决策语义场相关。 4.
