Two years ago,my son sat me down for a talk."Mom,it's time,"he said."Hear me
out:It's time we got actual TV.And you need an iPhone."
This funny conversation two years ago marked a change in our relationship.Perhaps for
the first time,I began to really listen to John's opinion about our home technology.Since his
reasoning was sound and his suggestions were within budget,I took his advice and was
pleasantly surprised with the results.
I'd known for a while that my son understands technology better than I do.On airplanes,
he grabbed my phone to put it in airplane mode.He wired the speakers in our house. After
something was stolen from our front yard,he picked out,set up,and now monitors our
security camera.
He has a busy social life, with skateboarding, basketball, and online gaming.I see our
time together becoming less and our shared interests shrinking. That's why I jumped at the
chance when a friend mentioned writing technology reviews.
It's changed our relationship in surprising ways.Although he used to get annoyed quickly
at my technical ignorance, now he's learned to be more patient and explain things to me in a
way that I can convey them to an equally unknowing audience. The parent-child relationship is
not only changed;it's even slightly reversed().He's leading me.I'm asking him for help
and advice.
As someone not much of a reader,he now searches instruction booklets.Without any

prompting,he even emailed and called to customer service or tech support when products
weren't working as expected.
I never imagined being a tech reviewer, but it's proved to be a valuable way to learn
from, work with, and enjoy time with my teen.
24.Why did the author approve of his son's view according to the first paragraph?
A.They were able to afford the two products.
B.Their funny talk changed their relationship.
C.The two products were on sale during the period.
D.The two products were the most advanced at the time.
25.How did the author's son deal with the theft?
A.He wired the speakers.
B.He reported it to the police.
C.He spent much time investigating it.
D.He purchased and installed a camera.
26.When did the author decide that she should write technology reviews?
A.When she and her son had less in common.
B.After her son explained to her some technology.
C.After her friend persuaded and forced her to do so.
D.When she and her son were stuck in their business.
27.What can we infer about the author from the last three paragraphs?
A.Her son used to put up with her technical ignorance.
B.Her son has a rich knowledge of technical terms.
C.She once dreamed of being a tech reviewer.
D.She can benefit from his son's assistance.

If you have some free time to socialize,do you prefer to spend it with your best friend or
partner,or with a larger group of people?
A new study investigated what group size people actually look for and encounter in
everyday life. The scientists asked more than 4,000 people from the U.S.and the
Netherlands to report the size of their social groups for a wide variety of activities. For eight
different activities,which include going to a bar,chatting at work,chatting off work,having
dinner,going on a holiday,going to a movie theatre,working on a project,playing sports,
people reported a group size of two more often than they reported larger group sizes.
Interestingly, for about half of these activities, women reported a group size of two
significantly more often than men did, suggesting that women prefer a social group size of two
even more than men do.
The researchers also used a research technique called real-time experiencesampling()in
the second part of the study.274 volunteers were asked seven times a day to report the last
social situation they had experienced. The results were clear. Two was the most common
group size with 52.6 percent. Thus, this part of the study also suggested that two is the most
common group size in social interactions.
So why do people prefer spending their time with one other person compared to spending
their time with larger groups?Researchers explained that in general, social interactions with
just one other person allow for more control of a situation, especially when it comes to
reciprocity().When we interact with just one other person, one's choices directly affect
the other person and only that person. Thus,it is easy to distinguish whether there is mutual
cooperation(for example, both people take turns paying for dinner)or whether someone acts
selfishly(for example, one person never pays the bill). In larger groups, the situation gets
much more complicated.
28.How was the study carried out?
A.By conducting some experiments.
B.By interviewing a large number of people.
C.By referring to some historical documents.
D.By following the people to observe their activities secretly.
【高三期末考试·英语第4页(共8页)】
29.Which of the following activities are included in the investigation?
①Doing some reading.②Seeing a film.
③Doing sports.
④Spending a vacation.
⑤Doing some washing.
A.①③④
B.②③④
C.③④⑤
D.②④⑤
30.What can we learn from the study in terms of social interactions?
A.Compared with women, men love a group of two more.
B.More than half of the people prefer the smallest group.
C.Compared with men, women love a large group more.
D.People prefer a large group size to a small group.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.There are limited choices in large groups.
B.Two people tend to get along well with each other.
C.A situation can be handled more easily between two people.
D.A selfish intention can be identified more clearly in large groups.
D
Global adult diabetes()cases have doubled to more than 800 million during the
past three decades,far exceeding()previous estimates,according to new research.A
groundbreaking study published in The Lancet this week reveals a healthcare crisis, with more
than half of adults over the age of 30 who have diabetes going untreated.Researchers
highlighted the need for better diabetes screening and treatment in low-and middle-income
countries, which have seen the sharpest rise in cases since 1990.
It noted that four nations accounted for more than half of global diabetes cases,India
having the most with 212 million cases, followed by China with 148 million, the US with 42
million,and Pakistan with 36 million.Previous WHO(the World Health Organization)
estimates had said the total number of global diabetes cases would be 422 million.Pacific
island nations, along with parts of the Caribbean,Middle East, and North Africa, reported
the highest diabetes rates globally, exceeding 25 percent of adults.Among wealthy Western
nations, the US leads with 12.5 percent, followed by the UK with 8.8 percent.
While the number of diabetes cases has risen sharply, treatment rates in some regions
have remained unsatisfactory, the authors noted, even as some higher-income countries have
made significant progress.
Senior author Majid Ezzati,a professor at Imperial College London, said,"This is
especially concerning as people with diabetes tend to be younger in low-income countries and,
in the absence of effective treatment, are at the risk of life-long complications(并发s症).”The
study provides the first worldwide assessment of diabetes trends, drawing from data of more
than 1,000 studies involving more than 140 million adults.
The findings drew a severe warning from WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom
Ghebreyesus."We have seen an alarming rise in diabetes over the past three decades, which
reflects the increase in obesity as well as the impacts of the marketing of unhealthy food,a
lack of physical activity, and economic hardship,"he said."To bring the global diabetes
epidemic under control, countries must urgently take action. This starts with enacting policies
that support healthy diets and physical activity and, most importantly, health systems that
provide prevention,early detection,and treatment."
32.Where can we find the third most diabetes cases?
A.Pakistan.
B.America.
C.China.
D.India.
33.What is Majid Ezzati's attitude toward the current treatment of diabetes in the low-income
countries?
A.Doubtful.
B.Optimistic.
C.Worried.
D.Tolerant.

million people. But many farmers are still identified as some of the poorest people in the
country.36
Wim Prihanto is the co-founder of the mobile application and website called RegoPantes.
37 It works by removing middlemen()between farmers and the harvest they
supply to markets.Farmers usually complain their harvest is always sold below cost when
they go through several middlemen. But today, farmers have more power and all with the tap
of a finger."For popular products, farmers usually have to go through 8 to 13 middlemen.
38 With this app, farmers can immediately post their produce and sell it to consumers,"
Prihanto says.
The app has also helped farmers to understand the market much better. They can learn
how the market operates, what exactly customers are looking for, evaluate other prices in the
market and understand what they can do to get better prices.
39 Many e-commerce websites in Indonesia have also enabled farmers to sell their produce
to customers across provinces.Although they're only able to sell in small quantities for now,the
price remains affordable and increasingly competitive.Through the e-commerce platforms, farmers in
Central and East Java, for example, can serve customers in Jakarta's markets.
There is a huge potential for smart agriculture in Indonesia but it comes with challenges.Only
less than 5 percent of farmers in the country are below 35 years old, many of whom still do not own
a smartphone.40 So it is difficult to be a part of digital farming. But those challenges can be
overcome as smart agriculture can be beneficial to economy in the long run.It is already beginning to
increase the productivity of agricultural companies and smallholder farmers.
A.The conditions are unfavourable for agriculture.
B.These methods can help increase farmers'harvest.
C.Besides,in some smaller areas, there is no Internet.
D.All of that is changing with the help of advanced technology.
E.Along the way the price decreases and income reduces for them.
F.The app aims to change the lives of farmers working to make a good living.
G.RegoPantes is not the only app that allows farmers to sell directly to customers.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One day a couple heard that one of their sons had beaten a poor child called Bill. They
thought it must have certainly been done by their naughty John, but they didn't ask him
directly, because they feared that he would deny it if they put the question to him. Then the
father had an idea.
They then went to the supper table, and John was very still and quiet:he ate little, and
said still less.He seldom looked at his parents, who were very serious, and he only glanced at
them for a couple of times.
About half an hour later, the sons were gone to sleep. They all slept in separate beds,
but in the same room.Their father entered their room, and took pains to make a loud noise
when shutting the door.John instantly sprang out of bed,and full of fear cried out,"What is
it?What is the matter?"
“Nothing,.”answered the father.“I was only wishing to see who among you was asleep.”
The two other brothers were sleeping softly and sweetly, and did not awake until they heard
John's cry.The father then went out again.
The next day the father asked John to come to him and in the presence of his mother and
all the children said to him,"You beat a poor child named Bill yesterday, didn't you?"John,
who thought that it had all leaked out, began to excuse himself,"Bill struck me too,and..."
His father stopped him.
"John!"said his father,"Yesterday,we heard that one of our sons had beaten a poor
child, but we did not know who had done it.When I saw you eating in so much fear and
trouble, and still more, when you could not sleep due to your uneasiness and guilty conscience
and the sound made you jump from your bed,I was convinced that you were the guilty one.
You have been sufficiently punished by your anxiety and fear, but you must now try to be
kind to the poor child, apologize for and make up for your bad behavior. What will you do?"
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Dropping his head,John thought for a while and then an idea occurred to him.
Approaching John,Bill said merrily,"That can't be better."
