While some students prefer material rewards for good behavior, all Kameron Eisenberg wanted was to be the first one on the bus. That way, he’d be able to spend a little extra time with the school bus driver Charles Frierson. In the few minutes they shared together each afternoon, Mr. Charles would chat with Kameron, encourage him, and generally brighten his day. “I always ask the kids, ‘What do you want to work for today?’ And Kameron said, ‘I want to work to see the bus,’” Stephanie said. “Just being the first one on the bus and talking to Mr. Charles does not seem like a lot, but to him it’s the world.” At the beginning of the school year, Kameron was having some difficulties in class. His behavior got him sent to the administrator’s office almost every day. However, getting to hang out with Mr. Charles turned out to be a strong motivator for the kindergartner to follow directions. After checking in with his teacher, the bus driver would sometimes even talk to him about any problems he was having in school. Stephanie saw a huge change in Kameron’s attitude once the boy started talking to Mr. Charles every day. So did Kameron’s mom. Eventually, she decided to write a letter to the driver. As Charles read the note on camera, he started to tear up. “I have always believed angels come when you least expect them.” She wrote, “This holds especially true in regards to Mr. Charles. I would like him to know how much we absolutely love him for who he is and what he has done for my son.” According to School Transportations News. Charles and Kameron often get ice cream together now that school is out for the summer. The bus driver also cheers him on at his weekend baseball games. 4. What can be inferred from the first two paragraphs? A. Kameron was tired of Stephanie’s lessons. B Kameron liked to compete for the first place. C. Kameron made friends with Mr. Charles. D. All kids in the kindergarten preferred material rewards. 5. What happened to Kameron at the beginning of the school year? A. He behaved badly in school. B. He was to be dismissed from school. C. He had a poor sense of direction. D. He was affected more by the administrator. 6. Why did Kameron’s mom write to Mr. Charles? A. To show her gratitude to him. B. To change Kameron’s attitude. C. To express a mother’s enthusiasm. D. To get the school bus driver moved. 7. Which words can best describe Mr. Charles? A. Patient and cautious. B. Caring and positive. C. Honest and determined. D. Ambitious and sensitive. C 5. A 6. A 7. 根据第一段的“That way, he’d be able to spend a little extra time with the school bus driver Charles Frierson. In the few minutes they shared together each afternoon, Mr. Charles would chat with Kameron, encourage him, and generally brighten his day. (这样,他就能多花点时间和校车司机Charles Frierson在一起了。在他们每天下午共处的几分钟里,Charles会和Kameron聊天,鼓励他,通常会让他的一天变得愉快。)”可知,Kameron和Charles先生成了朋友。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段的“At the beginning of the school year, Kameron was having some difficulties in class. His behavior got him sent to the administrator’s office almost every day. (新学年开始时,Kameron在课堂上遇到了一些困难。他的行为使他几乎每天都被送到行政办公室。)”可知,新学年开始的时候,Kameron在学校表现不好。故选A。 根据倒数第三段的“Stephanie saw a huge change in Kameron’s attitude once the boy started talking to Mr. Charles every day. So did Kameron’s mom. Eventually, she decided to write a letter to the driver. (自从Kameron开始每天和Charles先生说话后,Stephanie发现他的态度发生了巨大变化。Kameron的妈妈也是。最后,她决定给司机写封信。)”可知,Charles使Kameron改变了,所以Kameron的妈妈写信给Charles表示感谢,故选A。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“In the few minutes they shared together each afternoon, Mr. Charles would chat with Kameron, encourage him, and generally brighten his day. (在他们每天下午共处的几分钟里,Charles会和Kameron聊天,鼓励他,通常会让他的一天变得愉快。)”,第三段“After checking in with his teacher, the bus driver would sometimes even talk to him about any problems he was having in school. (在和老师沟通后,公交车司机有时甚至会和他谈谈他在学校遇到的任何问题。)”和最后一段“The bus driver also cheers him on at his weekend baseball games. (公共汽车司机还在他周末的棒球比赛中为他加油。)”可知,校车司机Charles关心Kameron,而且是很积极的一个人,因此可用caring和positive描述Mr. Charles,故选B。 In the United States alone, 119 billion pounds of food is wasted each year according to the nonprofit organization Feeding America. Yet, over 44 million Americans go hungry every day. If this seems like a huge gap, this is due both to the process of distributing the food and to the food waste that affects the world’s ability to sufficiently raise its entire population. However, several New York City(NYC) communities have found an effective way to reduce food waste—community fridges. These fridges represent a grassroots way to increase access to food and fight against food waste. The community fridges offer a way for people to give fresh food that they will not eat to others who need it. They first surfaced in New York City in 2020. These community fridges offer a ray of hope to people who were struggling to afford or find food during supply chain issues and rising food prices. Community fridges offer a way for food that would otherwise be wasted to be redistributed. However, another wonderful effect of reducing food waste is the ability to reduce emissions that contribute to climate change. As food gets bad in landfills, it gives off methane, which is the second most common greenhouse gas. This means that food waste is responsible for up to ten percent of global emissions—which is a pretty large number! Placing food that would otherwise go uneaten in a community fridge can help to reduce these emissions. Although there are some negative side effects of community fridges, their benefits usually outweigh their negatives. Volunteers clean and maintain the fridges. Some community fridge nonprofits even use renewable energy to power the refrigerators. Although the community fridge may be misused by some, these instances are sparse. Now, the idea of the community fridge has spread. These fridges, also known as “friendly fridges”, will be found in cities throughout the United States. 8. Why is “a huge gap” mentioned in paragraph 1? A. To seek for ways to feed the hungry. B. To lead in the problem of food waste. C. To point out the population crisis in the US. D. To show the effect of reducing food waste. 9. What is a benefit of the community fridge program according to the text? A. It helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. B. It motivates companies to make energy-saving fridges. C. It is the best solution to global climate change. D. It brings down food prices by offering more supplies. 10. What does the underlined word “sparse” mean in paragraph 4? A. Ordinary. B. Serious. C. Reasonable. D. Rare. 11. What is the author’s attitude towards community fridges? A. Unclear. B. Doubtful. C. Hopeful. D. Indifferent. B 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第一段前三句“In the United States alone, 119 billion pounds of food is wasted each year according to the nonprofit organization Feeding America. Yet, over 44 million Americans go hungry every day. If this seems like a huge gap, this is due both to the process of distributing the food and to the food waste that affects the world’s ability to sufficiently raise its entire population.”(根据非营利组织 Feeding America的数据,仅在美国,每年就有1190亿磅的食物被浪费。 根据第三段前两句“Community fridges offer a way for food that would otherwise be wasted to be redistributed. However, another wonderful effect of reducing food waste is the ability to reduce emissions that contribute to climate change.”(社区冰箱为食物提供了一种重新分配的方式,否则会被浪费掉。 及最后一句“Placing food that would otherwise go uneaten in a community fridge can help to reduce these emissions.”(将原本不吃的食物放在社区冰箱里可以帮助减少这些排放。) 故选A项。 根据最后一段第四句“Although the community fridge may be misused by some, these instances are...”(虽然社区冰箱可能会被一些人滥用,但这些情况是……) 根据最后一段第一句“Although there are some negative side effects of community fridges, their benefits usually outweigh their negatives.”(虽然社区冰箱有一些负面的副作用,但它们的好处通常大于坏处。)及最后一句“Now, the idea of the community fridge has spread. These fridges, also known as “friendly fridges”, will be found in cities throughout the United States.”(现在,社区冰箱的想法已经传播开来。 Children's average daily time spent watching television or using mobile device increased  from 53 minutes at age 12 months to more than 150 minutes at 3 years, according to an analysis by researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). By age 8, children were more likely to log the highest amount of screen time if they had been in home-based children or were born to first-time mothers. “Our results indicate that screen habits begin early, ”said Edwina Yeung, an investigator in National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).“This finding suggests that interventions(干涉) to reduce screen time could have a better chance of success if introduced early.” In the research, mothers of 4, 000 children responded to questions on their kids' media habits when they were 12, 18, 24, 30, and 36 months of age. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends avoiding digital media exposure for children under 18 months of age, introducing children 18 to 24 months of age to screen media slowly, and limiting screen time to an hour a day for children from 2 to 5 years of age. In the current study, researchers found that 87% of the children had screen time exceeding (超过) these recommendations. However, while screen time increased throughout toddlerhood, by age 7 and 8, screen time fell to under 1.5 hours per day. The researchers believe this decrease relates to time consumed by school-related activities. The study authors classified the children into two groups based on how much their average daily screen time increased from age 1 to age 3. The first group, 73% of the total had the lowest increase, from an average of nearly 51 minutes a day to nearly an hour and 47 minutes a day. The second group, 27% of the total, had the highest increase, from nearly 37 minutes of screen time a day to about 4 hours a day. Higher levels of parental education were associated with lower odds of inclusion in the second group. 12. Who use mobile device longest according to the NIH's analysis? A. 10-year-old born to first-time mothers. B. 3-year-old children in low income families. C. 8-year-old children in home-based childcare. D. 1-year-old children with parents poorly educated. 13. What does the research suggest according to Edwina? A. Parents should stop their children using media. B. Parents should limit the use of digital media themselves. C. Parents should reduce their children's screen time earlier. D. Parents should avoid their children using digital media at infancy (婴儿期). 14. Why does children's screen time fall when they age 7 and 8? A. They are studying at school. B. They can control themselves. C. They are tired of using them. D. They are forbidden to use them. 15. Which of the following may be the best title? A. Keep Away from Media B. Screen Habits Begin Early C. Urgency of Parental Education D. Harm of Home-based Childcare 【答案】12. C 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第一段“By age 8, children were more likely to log the highest amount of screen time if they had been in home-based children or were born to first-time mothers.(到8岁时,如果孩子是在家的孩子,或者是第一次做母亲的孩子,那么他们更有可能花最多的时间看屏幕。)” 根据第二段埃德温娜说的话“This finding suggests that interventions to reduce screen time could have a better chance of success if introduced early.(这一发现表明,如果及早采取干预措施,减少屏幕时间,成功率会更高。)” 根据第四段“However, while screen time increased throughout toddlerhood, by age 7 and 8, screen time fell to under 1.5 hours per day. The researchers believe this decrease relates to time consumed by school-related activities.(然而,在蹒跚学步的过程中,屏幕时间一直在增加,到7岁和8岁时,屏幕时间下降到每天1.5小时以下。研究人员认为,这种减少与学校相关活动所消耗的时间有关。)”可知,孩子在7岁和8岁的时候屏幕时间减少了的原因是他们在学校学习。故选A。 根据文章第二段““Our results indicate that screen habits begin early, ”said Edwina Yeung, an investigator in National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).( 美国国家儿童健康与人类发展研究所的研究员Edwina Yeung说:“我们的研究结果表明,屏幕习惯很早就开始了。”)” Create a New Chapter in Your Life Life is filled with ups and downs, and what matters is how you handle each situation. Here is how you can create a new chapter in your life. Let’s start! Learn from others. It is an amazing approach to find people that have gone through the same trials as you have. ___16___ When you start learning from others, you notice the different patterns which made them successful. Sometimes we might feel that we have tried out so much but nothing is working out for us. Giving up is easy, but continuing with the pain is hard but worth it. In this kind of situation, the only practical solution is to try solutions that you never ever dreamed of. ___18___ Let go of your past. Do what actually works. ___20___ For example, many people turn to alcohol to relieve the stress, which just kills them slowly. Don’t follow the path to anger. When David passed them, he heard the woman yell. “How stupid you are! You’re good at nothing.” David stopped and looked at the little boy. The boy said nothing. He just stood there, looking upset. David was reminded of his English teacher Mrs Brown in middle school. After he entered a middle school, David lacked self-confidence because he was often made fun of by others. He was often told that he was good at nothing, which David behaved. But one day it all changed. One day, in an English writing class, Mrs Brown asked them to read a novel. They were asked to write a new chapter of the novel after they finished reading it. A few days later, David handed in his story. He didn’t give it much thought. But the next day, to his surprise, the comment “well done” from Mrs Brown came into view the moment he turned to the page where the story was written. When David read that, he almost burst into tears. He never expected to be praised one day. He suddenly gained some self-confidence. That day after he returned home, he wrote a short story and gave it to Mrs Brown the next morning. And again he was praised. David became very interested in writing. He often wrote short stories and asked Mrs Brown to read them improve writing skills. One year later, David joined the school newspaper and became an editor of it. He was no longer that boy who lacked self-confidence. He gained his confidence, and was hopeful about his future. He succeeded in entering a college and kept writing. Several years after graduating from college, he had his first book published. With some more books coming out, he became famous as a writer in his country. And he owed his success to Mrs Brown’s encouragement. Without her encouragement, his life might be very different now. Inspired by his own life story, David decided to do something for that boy. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The mother was ashamed when she heard that. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文: Inspired by his own life story, David decided to do something for that boy. He went to the woman, who immediately recognized him because she had read his books and seen his pictures. David started to chat with her. He told her that what she said to her boy was not appropriate. Then he told her about the encouragement he once got from Mrs. Brown. In the end, he said, “I couldn’t have become a writer if I had believed I was good at nothing.” The mother was ashamed when she heard that. She realized that she shouldn’t have called her son stupid, which would make him lose confidence in himself. So she said, “Thank you for your advice. I’ll never say such things to him again. Instead, I’ll find out what he’s good at and encourage him.” The woman then left with the boy. Looking at the back of the boy, David felt relieved, hoping his action could make a difference to the boy. 词汇激活: 行为类: ①决定做某事:decide to do/determine to do ②聊天:chat with/talk with ③擅长做某事:be good at doing/do well in doing ④鼓励:encourage/inspire 情绪类: ①丧失信心:lose confidence/lose heart ②宽慰的:relieved/soothing 【点睛】【高分句型1】He went to the woman, who immediately recognized him because she had read his books and seen his pictures. B. Kameron liked to compete for the first place. In the United States alone, 119 billion pounds of food is wasted each year according to the nonprofit organization Feeding America. However another wonderful effect of reducing food waste is the ability to reduce emissions that contribute to climate change. D. Children's average daily time spent watching television or using mobile device increased  from 53 minutes at age 12 months to more than 150 minutes at 3 years according to an analysis by researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力1-5 BACBC 6-10 ABCAC 11-15 AACAB 16-20 CBCAA 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
