考查情景交际。I hope so我希望如此;Of course当然;In your dreams在你梦里;Well done做得好。根据“I’ve found lots of spelling mistakes in your writing.”可知,发现很多拼写错误,得一等奖是不太可能的,选项“In your dreams”用于表示不可能实现的事情,符合语境,故选C。

William Wilkie Collins (1824—1889) was an English short-story writer. Most of his stories were seen in magazines. He was good at making just enough suspense (悬念) to keep the readers interested in the following part in the next week’s magazine. Make no mistake—The Moonstone is not a “short” story. Nearly three times as long as a detective novel, it will take some time to get to the bottom of it.
But that does not make it boring. In fact, it just adds to its complicated plots. Told through 11 different voices, Wilkie Collins’ novel is a classic mystery that will leave you guessing and guessing again until the final pages. Written in 1868, using only what they know. That means the reader is always filling in the gaps as the story goes on, wanting to know what happens next.
The story is about a large, yellow diamond called the moonstone. The stone is very sacred (神圣的) in India. It was first stolen from India in 1799. It finds its way to a young English girl named Rachel about 50 years later. But on the night of her 18th birthday, it is stolen again!
From there the reader is taken on a crazy journey, through the eyes of all the different characters and suspects. That means suspects changes from character to character. For example, first you think the waitress is the thief, but she is soon found dead and a new character is suspected of stealing the diamond.
The story also touches on the history between India and England. While the English are wondering who stole “their” diamond, the Indians are angry because the English stole it from them first. So, who stole the diamond? Why not read it and find out!

● The kangaroo mouse (更格卢鼠) never needs to drink water.
The kangaroo mouse is named after an Australian animal. It lives in the Nevada desert and doesn’t need to drink water. It has been used to the dry environment by getting all the water it needs from the seeds it eats.
● Clams (蛤蜊) have feet.
It seems clams have a big tongue (舌头) that sometimes reaches out from their shell to search around the ocean floor, but in fact what you’re seeing is a foot. This foot, longer than the clam’s shell, helps them dig in the sand on the ocean floor.
● Stars don’t really twinkle.
“Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” makes us think the stars are sparkling (闪烁的), but it’s actually a “space mirage (幻景)”. The light from stars is steady, but Earth’s atmosphere (大气层) makes them seem to twinkle.
● ______
On top of sleeping, eating and pooping, babies spend plenty of their time crying. However, they don’t produce tears right away. That ability takes a while to develop, which is why parents won’t start to see actual teardrops form until their baby is between two weeks and three months old.

Have you learned about axial symmetry (轴对称) in math? If a city shows axial symmetry, its central axis is the key line. In July, 2024, the “Beijing Central Axis: A Building Ensemble Exhibiting the Ideal Order of the Chinese Capital (北京中轴线—中国理想都城秩序的杰作)” was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, becoming China’s 59th World Heritage Site.
The Beijing Central Axis has a group of buildings and historical sites (历史遗迹) that shape Beijing’s old city. Running 7.8 kilometers from north to south in central Beijing, this area includes 15 key parts, such as the Bell and Drum Towers in the north and Yongdingmen Gate in the south.
The building of the Beijing Central Axis began in the 13th century and took shape in the 16th century. According to Liu Zhou, director of the National Heritage Center at Tsinghua University, this idea of city planning dates back to the Kaogongji (《考工记》), written before 221 BC. This book explains how to plan a capital city.
The Beijing Central Axis shows traditional Chinese ideas of “zhong” and “he”. For example, the royal palace was placed at the center, with other important buildings placed around it to create a sense of harmony (和谐感).
“Beijing’s unique (独一无二的) and great order is created by this central axis,” said Liang Sicheng (1901—1972), a famous Chinese architect (建筑师).

Drinking a cup of milk tea with friends? That’s “city”. Visiting the Great Wall of China? Very “city”. Riding a bike down Shanghai’s Anfu Road? Quite “city”.
If you don’t get it, let me explain it to you. The popularity of “City bu city?” has risen on the Internet these days. You can use it to describe whether someone, or something is urban (都市的) and modern or not.
“City bu city?” was first used by American blogger Paul Mike Ashton. He has lived in Shanghai with his sister for years. His name on the Internet is “Bao Bao Xiong”. He likes sharing travel experiences in China on Douyin and Xiaohongshu. Ashton became popular after he shared a video of him asking his sister “City bu city?” on the Great Wall.
The word “city” itself has now taken on a new meaning as an adjective. Ashton himself says that it describes something that happens in the city, but it can also be “something that gives you a great love for life”.
In recent years, a large number of foreign tourists like Ashton have been sharing their experiences of visiting China online. Topics about travelling in China are becoming more and more popular. Now people around the world can learn more about different places of modern China and Chinese way of life. And all of these are shown in a more emotional (感性的), friendly and natural way.

A. Enjoying milk tea with friends. B. Travelling around Changsha.
C. Staying up late for homework. D. Riding a bike down Shanghai’s Anfu Road.

A. Few foreign tourists like sharing their experiences online.
B. More and more foreigners would like to travel in China.
C. People can learn more about different places in ancient China.
D. Creating a new meaning for a common word is Aston’s great hobby.

It seems clams have a big tongue (舌头) that sometimes reaches out from their shell to search around the ocean floor but in fact what you’re seeing is a foot. This foot, longer than the clam’s shell, helps them dig in the sand on the ocean floor.
