In ancient times, a king had a boulder (巨石)placed on a roadway. He then hid himself and watched to see if anyone would move the boulder out of the way. Some of the king’s wealthiest business men and courtiers (朝臣)came by and simply walked around it.
Many people even loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none of them did anything about getting the stone out of the way. They just complained and went away. A peasant (农民)then came along carrying a large bag of vegetables. Upon getting closer to the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to push the stone out of the road. After trying and pushing for a long time, he finally succeeded.
After the peasant went back to pick up his vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. In the purse there were many gold coins and a note from the king explaining that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. If you were on the way, what would you do? 15、A 12-man Chinese team landed on the Antarctic icecap(南极冰盖最高点) peak on January 18. They are the first people to reach the peak of Dome A (海穹A). It is 4,039 meters above sea level (海拔).
The team built a station there to study the changes of the weather, get ice samples (标本) from 150 meters to 200 meters below, and do other studies. So far, the team has got nearly 100-meter long ice samples from a place about 300 meters under the icecap peak.
It is the first time that people have been able to get samples from the icecap peak in Antarctica and it is very important for people to study the weather changes and environmental changes in this area(地区).
The Chinese scientists have also built a weather study system (系统) at the peak. The system can send out information about temperature, how strong the wind is, and many other things about the weather.
The Antarctic icecap makes up 70% of the earth's freshwater (淡水). By studying Dome A, scientists can get the lowest temperature of the earth and other information about the world's weather changes. We can't get this information from other places on the earth because Dome A is the best place for this kind of studies. So it is very important to land on the peak of Dome A.

16、You can't always predict(预测)a heavy rain or remember your umbrella. But designer Belyaev doesn't think that forgetting to check the weatherforecastbefore going out should cause you to get wet. That's why he created Lampbrella, a lamp post(柱)with its own rain-sensing(感应)umbrella.
The designer says he came up with the idea after watching people get wet on streets in Russia. “Once, I was driving on a central Saint Petersburg street and saw the street lamps lighting up people trying to hide from the rain. I thought it would be fit to have a canopy(伞篷) built into a street lamp,” he said.
The Lampbrella is a post-looking street lamp fitted with an umbrella canopy. It has a built-in electric machine which can open or close the umbrella. Sensors(传感器) then make sure that the umbrella offers walkers shelter(遮蔽) whenever it starts raining.
Besides the rain sensor, there's also a 360° moving sensor on the street lamp which finds whether anyone is using the Lampbrella. After three minutes of not being used the canopy is closed.
According to the designer, the Lampbrella would move at a rather low speed, in order not to hurt the walkers. Besides, it would be fixed on the ground to protect from possible lightning strike. Each Lampbrella would offer enough shelter for several people. Being fixed at 2 meters off the ground, it would only be a danger for the tallest of walkers.
While there are no plans to take the Lampbrella into production, Belyaev says he recently introduced his creation to one Moscow Department, and believes that his creation could be fixed on any street where a lot of people walk but there are no canopies to provide shelter.
