A Study Tour to the Sunshine Eco-Farm
Last weekend, our class had a study tour to the Sunshine Eco-Farm, eager to learn about sustainable agriculture and foster a deeper understanding of environmental protection.
The day began with a brief introduction to the farm, followed by a hands-on experience in planting vegetables and feeding cows. We also learned how to turn food and animal waste into nutrient-rich soil. After a hearty lunch entirely sourced from the farm, we visited the solar-powered greenhouses, where we saw various crops growing without chemical fertilizers.
This experience was both exciting and enriching. I was thrilled to see firsthand how technology can be applied in agriculture, and it fueled my passion for protecting our environment as well.
第二节(满分25分)
When Mrs. Meredith heard of the idea, she thought it was a good one, too. Then Mrs. Meredith searched the internet and ordered a household popcorn machine. After that, Mrs. Meredith, together with her three children, paid another visit to the family and told them about the popcorn plan. Needless to say, they were deeply moved, especially Bernard who finally found a way to make money for his family. A few days later, the machine was delivered to Mrs. Meredith's doorstep. And it wasn't long before they got the hang of using the machine to make popcorn.
With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. Although it was a hard time and things were tight for everybody, Bernard’s business worked out quite well. He carried the popcorn on his small bike, going from door to door to sell it. People were surprised to see such a little, poorly-dressed boy selling popcorn at their doors, but eventually almost all of them would buy a bag or two. It is love that makes the world go round and Bernard felt it deep in his little heart。

Text 1
W: Hi there, Tom. I've just finished my piano lesson. Have you been practicing your guitar lately?
M: Yeah. I've been learning some new songs. I love the feeling when I finally get a song right.
W: We only need someone on drums and we could form a band.
Text 2
M: Hi, Gina. Is that you? What brings you here?
W: Oh, hi, Kevin. I'm adopting this cute little dog here. She's so friendly and well-behaved.
M: We haven't met since university. What about a chat at the cafe nearby? My work is almost finished.
Text 3
W: I tried that new recipe you shared—the chocolate chip cookies. They were a hit with my family.
M: I'm glad you liked them. I've shared that recipe with so many people and they all say the same thing. Baking can be so rewarding.
W: It certainly can.
Text 4
M: I'm reading an amazing book. I got it from the library. It's a real page-turner.
W: Which one is it? I'm looking for something new to read. I've just finished my latest book.
M: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. You'll love it.
Text 5
W: Did you hear about the charity event at the village hall next weekend?
M: Yeah, I saw the flyers (传单) . There's going to be a band and food. Are you going?
W: Absolutely. I'm volunteering there to show people the way. It's for a great cause.
Text 6
M: Hey, you won't believe what happened earlier today. I had to rescue a cat that was stuck in a tree.
W: Oh, really? Tell me all about it.
M: It was quite a challenge. The poor thing was terrified and wouldn't come down. I had to get a ladder from my neighbor but, even then, it took some time to get the cat to trust me. Finally, after a bit of patience, I managed to reach it and bring it down safely.
W: That's so kind of you. It sounds like quite an adventure.
M: It was. I'm just glad I could help the poor creature.
Text 7
W: Charles Martin, thank you for joining us today. Could you tell us about your recent project?
M: Of course. I've been working on a new environmental program in our community. We've been organizing clean-up events and planting trees to reduce pollution.
W: That deserves praise. How does your family feel about the time you're devoting to it?
M: Well, it's been challenging. My family has been supportive, but I can sense their concerns.
W: I see. What are their major concerns?
M: They worry that I might not have enough time for study or that I'll neglect my responsibilities at home.
W: That's understandable. How do you plan to address these concerns while continuing your important work?
M: It's a balancing act for sure. I'm making an effort to involve them in some of the community activities, so it becomes a family effort. And I've been working on better time management.
Text 8
M: Sorry I took so long. I couldn't find our seats anywhere—these cheering sections in this stadium are crazy right now!
W: It's a very close match. We've only got 20 minutes left. How do you think the game will end?
M: I don't know, Eva. We've bought tickets and watched West Ham United F. C. play at home dozens of times. These games are hard to predict.
W: I know. But look at all of us fans together, cheering on our team from the stands. We can cheer our team to victory.
M: I hope so. It's still a draw now. But if the coach doesn't switch some players on the field, we'll definitely lose.
W: Have some faith!
M: Well, as long as we keep up our excellent defense and passing, we'll stop the visiting team from winning.
W: Our team's movement is excellent, and we'll get at least two more goals in the net by the game's end. You'll see!
M: I hope you're right!
Text 9
M: Hi, Miss Jones. I'm such a big fan of your music!
W: That's lovely to hear. Which one is your favorite?
M: Definitely your latest song. It is amazing. I can't stop listening to it. Is it true that there's a new record being made soon?
W: There's been some pressure from the record company to make a new one quickly, but I haven't made a decision yet. Would you like me to sign your copy of the songs?
M: Yes, please! That would be amazing.
W: What's your name?
M: It's Jack.
W: Okay. There you go, Jack. Thank you for your support and kind words. They mean a lot.
M: Thank you so much! It's such an honor to meet you. Can I take a picture with you?
W: Of course.
M: That's great. I can't believe I finally got to meet you.
W: It's always lovely to meet people who like my music. Thank you for coming to the concert, Jack.
M: No, thank you for taking the time to sign my record and take a picture with me. This has been an unforgettable experience.
Text 10
It's quite incredible how a simple hobby can turn into a fulfilling and successful career. I want to share my journey with you, starting from my love for photography. I used to take pictures of landscapes and people during my free time. It was my way of capturing life's beautiful moments and expressing my creativity. Little did I expect that this passion would lead to a career. Over time, I improved my skills by experimenting with various techniques and attending photography workshops. Friends and family began to notice my talent and asked me to photograph their events. This was the turning point. I started doing small jobs like capturing weddings, parties, and special moments. Word of mouth quickly spread, and soon, I was in demand as a photographer. As my client base expanded, so did my confidence and ambition. I realized I could turn my hobby into a full-time career. However, this journey had its challenges. The pressure of delivering perfect photos, the irregular income, and the competition in the photography world tested my patience. Now, I've established my own photography business, specializing in portrait photography. I've traveled to beautiful places, met wonderful people, and captured countless unforgettable moments. My future plans include exploring new types of photography, teaching ambitious photographers, and continuing to find new ways to tell domestic stories through my camera.

On August 20th, 2024, the Chinese gaming industry reached a milestone with the global release of Black Myth: Wukong, a new AAA action role-playing game developed by Game Science. Within hours of launch, it topped Steam’s most-played single-player list, gaining significant attention on social media.
Black Myth:Wukong draws on Chinese mythologies(神话)and the classic novel Journey to the West. It allows players to assume the role of Sun Wukong and start grand adventures. Inspired by Stephen Chow’s A Chinese Odyssey, the game creates a vivid dreamscape with Chinese scenery, like remote mountains, wild roads and ancient temples. The various demons, gods, and other figures with Chinese-style designs in the game are based on The Classic of Mountains and Seas, breathing new life into the ancient tales of Chinese mythology.
Feng Ji, Game Science founder and CEO, emphasized that the game was created entirely by a Chinese team to bring Chinese stories to the global gaming stage. He said, “The script and artistic concepts always take the lead, harmoniously integrating(把....融入)Chinese stories and classical cultural elements into the game.” He believed that a game’s true value is not determined by its budget or visuals, but by the genuine enjoyment it offers players.
According to the Xinhua News Agency,to create a truly immersive(沉浸式的), world-class game, the game’s production team spent years traveling across China, scanning historical and cultural sites, and integrating them into every game scene. The game features 36 locations thoroughly modeled after real-world sites, with 27 of them located in Shanxi Province, China, offering players a unique and immersive visual experience.
The game has increased interest in Shanxi’s cultural heritage. Bookings for trips to Shanxi have doubled since July, and the number of tourists to Shanxi has grown by 50%. Shanxi has rich tourism resources but lacks recognition both at home and abroad. The game has presented Shanxi’s cultural relics in a pleasing and effective way, arousing people’s interest in the province’s culture and travel.
24. What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about the game?

C. Confident and productive. D. Devoted and high-standard.
27. How does the game benefit Shanxi Province?
A. By promoting its cultural tourism.
B. By improving its international status.
C. By calling for the protection of its heritage.
D. By attracting investment to its game industry.

Earthquakes are among the most powerful and destructive natural phenomena on our planet. They result from plate movements, where the Earth's crustal plates grind against each other, causing stress to build up over time. When this stress exceeds the strength of the rock, it ruptures(断裂), releasing energy in the form of seismic waves(地震波)that travel through the Earth’s interior and shake the surface. The force of an earthquake depends on the extent of rock movement, and powerful events can shake firm ground violently for great distances.
Earthquakes can have catastrophic consequences, though they rarely kill people directly. Instead, deaths and injuries are often caused by falling objects, building collapses, and subsequent fires or hazardous chemical spills. So no matter where we are, knowing how to protect ourselves and our family during an earthquake is necessary. For example, when we feel the ground is shaking, find a nice piece of furniture, a chair, a sofa, or a closet, and lie down, or curl up next to it. A falling roof may compact(压实)the furniture, but will still leave a space for us to survive next to it.
After earthquakes, immediate response is crucial to save lives and minimize damage. Governments, international organizations, and local communities should work together to provide emergency relief, including medical aid, food, water, shelter, and search and rescue operations.
Earthquakes are unpredictable and devastating natural disasters that can have profound impacts on communities worldwide. While we cannot prevent earthquakes from happening, we can take steps to mitigate their effects through better building codes, early warning systems, and effective response and recovery efforts. By working together, we can reduce the human toll (伤亡人数)of these powerful events and build more resilient communities.
28. What is Paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. What earthquakes are. B. What earthquakes cause.
C. Where earthquakes occur. D. How earthquakes happen.
29. What should we do during an earthquake according to the text?
A. Hide in a closet. B. Stay in the bedroom.
C. Lie down next to a sofa. D. Curl up under a chair.
30. What is the key to reducing death and damage after an earthquake?
A. Immediate response to others’ help.
B. Quick action and cooperation at home and abroad.
C. Getting connected with family and friends immediately.
D. Waiting for aid from governments, communities and international organizations.
31. What does the underlined word “mitigate” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A. Promote. B. Prevent. C. Research. D. Reduce.
D
In general, the society is becoming one of giant enterprises directed by a bureaucratic (官僚主义的) management in which man becomes a small, well-oiled cog in the machinery. The oiling is done with higher wages, well-equipped factories and piped music, and by psychologists and "human-relations" experts; yet all this oiling does not change the fact that man has become powerless, that he does not wholeheartedly participate in his work and he is bored with it. In fact, the blue-collar and the white-collar workers have become economic puppets who dance to the tune of automated machines and bureaucratic management.
The worker and employee are anxious, seemingly because they might find themselves out of a job or they would say that they are unable to acquire any real satisfaction or interest in life. In fact, they feel desperate as they live and die without ever having confronted the fundamental realities of human existence as emotionally and intellectually independent and productive human beings.
Those higher up on the social ladder are no less anxious, Their lives are no less empty than those of their subordinates, They are even more insecure in some respects. They are in a highly competitive race. To be promoted or to fall behind is not a matter of salary but even more a matter of self-respect. When they apply for their first job, they are tested for intelligence as well as for the balance between submissiveness and independence. From the moment on they are tested again and again by the psychologists, for whom testing is a big business, and by their superiors, who judge their behavior, sociability, capacity to get along, etc. This constant need to prove that one is as good as or better than one's fellow-competitor creates constant anxiety and stress, the very causes of unhappiness and illness.
Am I suggesting a return to the pre-industrial mode of production or to nineteenth-century "free enterprise" capitalism? Certainly not. Problems are never solved by returning to a stage which one has already outgrow I suggest transforming the social system from a bureaucratically managed industrialism in which maximal production and consumption are ends in themselves into a humanist industrialism in which man and full development of his potentialities — those of all love and of reason — are the aims of social arrangements. Production and consumption should serve as means to this end, and should be prevented from ruling man.
32. By "a small, well-oiled cog in the machinery", the author expresses the idea that man is_______.
A. an essential part of society with irreplaceable functions
B. expected to work in reasonable harmony with the rest of society
C. an unimportant component of society, though functioning smoothly
D. responsible for the smooth running of society and business operations
33. The real cause of the anxiety of the workers and employees is that______.
A. they are filled with an overwhelming fear of being unemployed
B. they don't have any genuine satisfaction or interest
C. they have to face the fundamental realities of human existence
D. they lack a sense of independence and productivity
34.Which of the following is closes in meaning to the underlined word "submissiveness"?
A.caution B. obedience C. commitment D. optimism
35. What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A. To introduce the production mode of our ancestors.
B. To show the problematic situation in society.
C. To argue for full development of human potentials.
D. To help people escape production and consumption.

What to Do When You Have No Motivation
When you have no motivation to complete a task or even start one, first consider the possible reasons why you're struggling. 36 Not every strategy works for everyone—or in every situation. Perform some behavioral experiments to see which strategies best help you reach your goals.
37 When you think you're going to fail, argue all the reasons why you might succeed. Or when you think you can't finish a job, list all the evidence that shows you'll be able to complete the task. There's a chance that things might work out better than you expect. And you might find that developing a more balanced outlook will help you feel more motivated to try.
Use the 10-minute rule. The 10-minute rule can help you get started. Give yourself permission to quit a task after 10 minutes. When you reach the 10-minute mark, ask yourself if you want to keep going or quit. You'll likely find that you have enough motivation to keep going. Getting started on a task is usually the hardest part. 38
Seek professional help. If your motivation remains low for two or more weeks, seek professional help. 39 Your doctor may want to rule out physical health conditions that may be affecting your energy or mood. Your doctor may also refer you to a mental health professional to determine if your lack of motivation might be related to a mental illness, like depression.
Everyone struggles with motivation issues at one time or another. 40 Experiment with strategies that increase your motivation, and ask for help if you need it.
A. Argue the opposite.
B. Act as if you feel motivated.
C. For example, schedule an appointment with your physician.
D. If you're unwilling to go to school, stay at home for some time.
E. Then, develop a plan to help motivate yourself to get going.
F. Once you get going, however, it's much easier to keep going.
G. The way you respond to your lack of motivation is what matters.

Mrs. Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time visiting the poor. She knew they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help. When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them.
One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before. There was a man sick in bed, his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to work, and their little boy. The little boy — his name was Bernard — had interested her very much.
“I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara. “He is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don’t see what he can do.”
After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard. “I wish we could help him to earn money,” said Clara. “His family is suffering so much.”
“So do I,” said Harry. “We really should do something to assist them.”
For some moments, John said nothing, but, suddenly, he sprang to his feet and cried, “I have a great idea! I have a solution that we can all help accomplish(完成).”
The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea, it was sure to be a good one. “I tell you what we can do,” said John. “You know that big box of corn Uncle John sent us? Well, we can make popcorn(爆米花), and put it into paper bags, and Bermard can take it around to the houses and sell it.”
